For the past four decades, a growing cult of soul music collectors have sought two obscure LPs and a handful of extremely rare 45s released on the vanity record label LAD Productions, Inc. between the late seventies and the mid eighties by the mysterious South Side Chicago singer/song writer Larry Dixon.
Larry's raw songs capture the transition from R&B to boogie-down as disco was rapidly becoming extinct.
They also perfectly illustrate Larry's ability to overcome his environment and discrimination, transcended by his determination to write and produce music. With the support of his faithful musicians, Larry's success was only hindered by lack of airplay and promotion, but his talent shines through.
This is the story of Larry Dixon, his label LAD Productions, Inc., and his friends and family throughout four decades of music in Chicago's toughest neighborhoods.

A classic of incredibly strange music, electronica, pre Beatles Britpop, or all of the above...however you slice it, I Hear A New World was and is the masterpiece of that left field master of sound, Joe Meek...recorded as usual partly at home with secret equipment, and partly at the state of the art Lansdowne studio he pretty much designed, it is a full on spectacular action stereo extravaganza, almost unknown in British pop recordings of the time and for many years later....here beautifully remastered, and restored to its original track sequence as planned and advertised by Meek when he marketed it as an ideal stereo test recording for hi toned hifi shops....only an ep of less than half the assembled work was originally released....now here it is, on VINYL as it was meant to be heard....

Jongno Edits is an homage to the golden age of K-pop, those rarely heard but always loved strains of psych- rock, funk, disco and boogie from the 60's, 70's, 80's. Our mystery editors spent countless hours getting their hands dusty in the record shops and flea markets of Seoul's Jongno-Gu, in order to dig out the ultra-rare gems from the 'Land of the Morning Calm'.

These tracks have been put together especially for KAT45 and the 7'' format in mind: short and steady edits of soul and psych-rock... No effects or crazy filtering, but fine layering and editing of really hard to find Korean classics that stays true to the originals.

South Korean psychedelic rock masterpiece, heavy drums all the way around. In 1971, the Korean group Key Boys split up and its members either went solo or joined/formed groups like He6, Guys & Dolls, and the Key Brothers. This track (A Drifter's Life, ) is from the Key Brothers second album, , which was released in 1972 and features two fantastic originals, one of them penned by the Korean rock god Shin Jung-Hyun, and a sick 12 minute cover of Evil Ways.

Jung Sung-jo began his career as music director in film with "It Rained Yesterday" (1975) by director Lee Jang-ho, and left music to work on about 50 film scores including "Winter Woman", "Lee Jang-ho's" "Baseball Team" and "My Bride My Love". He organised a band called 'Jung Sung-jo and Messengers' with Cho Kyeong-su and Choi Byung-geol in the 1970s, and introduced jazz sounds into film music, playing the saxophone and flute.

Chapter is excited to announce the first ever reissue of What Is This Thing Called 'Disco'' , a landmark Australian post-punk artefact originally released in 1981 as an LP with accompanying 12' single.
One of the first records from the Australian underground to incorporate disco elements into the reigning post-punk asethetic, What Is This Thing Called 'Disco'' sits alongside records by international counterparts like Flying Lizards or Yellow Magic Orchestra in its combination of art school formalism and dancefloor hedonism. Melbourne artist Philip Brophy is best known for his work with 70s/80s art-punk provocateurs Tsk Tsk Tsk (pronounced with three clicks of the tongue). Asked to stage an exhibition in Melbourne in 1980, Brophy decided to put disco into an art gallery context. He created 'fake' band Asphixiation to mime on stage along to tape, and recorded What Is This Thing Called 'Disco'' as the backing tracks. In 1981, iconic Melbourne label Missing Link released a two song 12', and later that year the band released the album themselves, repressing the 12' and including it in the package. 36 years later, Chapter has lovingly remastered and reissued the album + single package, with new liner notes and photos.

Susana Estrada was one of the muses and main figures from the period known as 'Transition' in Spain. No other woman represented better than her the freedom and sexual revolution which the country experienced in the 70s after the end of the dictatorship.

A truly erotic Goddess, Susana was a model, singer and actress and one of the first women to perform fully-naked plays in Spain. She appeared in numerous erotic magazines and movies and her famous sexual counselling column for Play-Lady magazine caused a big commotion at the time. She reached fame with her erotic musical plays like Historias Del Strip-Tease', Muñecas' (where she simulated to have sex with a robot!) or Machos'.

As a singer, in 1980 Susana released her first 45 for the Belter label from Barcelona: Machos' / Acaríciame'. Produced by Josep Lobell and Manuel Gas, it contained two sexy disco tracks which paved the way for her first LP, Amor y Libertad' (Love and Freedom), released on the Belter sub-label Sauce in 1981. Produced by Cosmic Disco pioneer Josep Llobell (Oliver's Planet), this is a real fest of 80s Italo Disco, Munich Sound, Boogie, Funk and Modern Soul. The fabulous, minimal production of Llobell collides with the sensual vocals and moanings of Susana, singing about sexual liberation and freedom. Of course, when the album was originally released, nobody understood it. Criminally underrated for many years, Amor y Libertad' has now become a cult item in the international Cosmic Disco scene.

But in 1980, a strange cassette by Susana called Machos' was also released on the Belter label. It featured music and songs from the play of the same name. There, we can find Espacial' (seven minutes of robotic funk and Space Cosmic Disco) and Hagamos el amor' ( Let's make love'), another sexadelic funk track much in the vein of the ones included on Amor y Libertad'.

On this comp, you'll find the entire Amor y Libertad' album except the two tracks which were not in a disco / funk vein ( Ven' and Arena y mar'), plus Machos' ( a Celi Bee & the Buzzy Bunch cover), Acaríciame' from the first Belter 45 and two tracks from the Machos' cassette: Espacial' and Hagamos el amor'. We've also included a previously unreleased track courtesy of Susana: Tócame', recorded in 2007, in a High Energy Euro Disco vein.

Artist Susana Estrada was during the late 70s and early 80s one of the leading figures of the Destape', a period in Spain when sexual openness and freedom of thought exploded just when the country was coming out of a dictatorship.

For decades the mysterious Hiroshi & Claudia LP has been an elusive jewel amongst the curious world of Australian private press LPs. With nothing more than cryptic broken-English album sleeve notes to reference, the mythical Six To Six LP is a bewildering and intriguing jazz oddity. With prices of the rare original record hitting three figures, collectors began demanding to know who was 'Hiroshi', who was 'Claudia' and why did a group of unknown Japanese musicians record an album in Australia in the late 1970s only to issue it in micro-quantities, then seemingly disappear back into obscurity. For years no trace of whom they were nor any clue as to the origins of their peculiar yet entrancing music had surfaced. Until now....

Welcome to the brainchild of Gilles Germain and Carmen Fabro, a French/Italian husband and wife team of restaurateurs and film producers operating in Sydney during the 1970s. Establishing the custom record label 'Atom', the duo released a handful of highly obscure vanity jazz LPs and promotional horse racing 45s. (Yes it's all very strange...) The highlight undoubtedly being the album Six To Six, a session recorded in Sydney in 1979 by a group of touring Japanese jazz musicians led by guitarist Hiroshi Yasukawa, and a forgotten and still undocumented Mauritian cabaret singer performing under the alias 'Claudia'. Sitting somewhere between spacey Balearic disco, haunting soul and hectic funk reminiscent of electric Miles Davis, the Six To Six LP is a curious beast to say the least.

Released specially for Record Store Day 2017 Northside Records and The Roundtable present a limited edition exact reissue of this legendary Australian rare groove LP.

The Residents are one of pop history's best kept secrets, throughout the group's existence, the individual members have ostensibly attempted to operate under anonymity, preferring instead to have attention focused on their art output. Much outside speculation and rumor has focused on this aspect of the group. In public, the group appears silent and costumed, often wearing eyeball helmets, top hats and tails—a long-lasting costume now recognized as its signature iconography.

After Eskimo was released The Residents responded to the furore of fuss and praise it generated by taking various bits out of the album and re-working them to a disco parody of the original, this created Diskomo.

The Residents had long planned to produce a children's record -- of sorts. Goosebump is a collection of Mother Goose rhymes set to music with all of the original sinister overtones' left in place. They teamed up with their long-time collaborator Snakefinger and recorded the songs using only musical instruments. Although children's toys were used to produce the music, The Residents' grown-up toys were used afterwards in the mixing of the recording.

. New jersey connection are pretty much set in stone in the disco hall of fame. There 1981 smash "love don't come easy" on carnival records became a hit all around the globe. Move on a few years and band leader Eddie Saunders had many other musical groups and acts going on. Here in the late 1980's he teamed up with Cynthia Wilson to record this lovely modern disco cut. For some reason the project got shelved and they returned to it only last year. With a few tweaks here and there they deliver another beautiful slice of New York Soul.

Keni St. Lewis and Carl Kidd teamed up once again in 1980 to deliver a single sided floor filler in fine boogie fasion. St. Lewis a veteran songwriter beginning with the Shrine Records era, later moved to L.A. and at times with Freddie Perrin and as a solo producer began racking up hits including Tavares "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel" , The Sylvers "Boogie Fever" and "Hot Line" Minnie Riperton's "Back Down Memory Lane, an anthem in its own right.

1978 talk box funk recorded at DB Studios and issued for the first time from DC band Light Years, featuring Carl Kidd, Ernest Smith, Skip Pitts of Isaac Hayes Shaft fame, and others. Kidd often referenced the Cosmic funk genre in his group names and songs, and this production is no exception. A Cosmic Astro Disc release, the first release in a new series from Al & The Kidd.

Previously unreleased, recorded in 1979-1980, one of D.C.'s most obscure Funk Fusion bands Light Years, comes to the forefront with a 6 min release on Al & The Kidd AK1207. The song has been played in DJ sets since 2004, and on one night in Miami Beach, an ESPN party was held on the patio and when this song was played to close the set, around 20-25 ESPN staffers danced to close the set... Months later, the late ESPN host Stuart Scott began saying during his broadcasts "You Ain't Gotta Go Home, But You Gotta Get The Heck Out'a Here"!

In 1978 D.C. based funk from Light Years recorded at DB Studios and issued for the first time from as with previous sessions featuring Carl Maxx Kidd, Ernest Smith, Skip Pitts on vocals, Charles Steptoe on drums and others. Light Years performed around DC during the summer of 1978 and featured lineups differed between live performances and studio recordings. AK1212 features Kidd, on lead vocals on the self-penned Do It To The Maxx (Kidd), and It's Up To You.

This follow-up to our recent Love Hit Me! Decca Beat Girls' and Scratch My Back! Pye Beat Girls' releases comprises superior 60s she-pop from the EMI group of record labels - Parlophone, Columbia and HMV - headquartered in Marylebone in the heart of London's West End.

The collection is available in 12-track LP and 24-track CD formats. The LP edition is pressed on 180g orange vinyl in a heavy duty sleeve with comprehensive notes and rare photos on the inner bag. The CD version comes with a bumper booklet featuring expanded notes and extra photos.

Most of the female acts signed by EMI were teenagers completely tuned in to the current pop trends. Scottish duo the McKinleys, R&B club habituée Julie Driscoll (cover star of the vinyl version), talent show winner Billie Davis (the CD cover girl) and Midlands pub singer Beverley Jones took original material from London's Tin Pan Alley and American covers and gave them an abrasive, vigorous kick that made for fabulous 45s. They may not have had quite the polish of their US counterparts, but the rough'n'ready sound of the Marylebone Beat Girl was precisely her appeal.

Among the many highlights are 'Dancing Yet', a Dobie Gray-style discotheque number by Liza & the Jet Set, 'Like The Big Man Said' by Toni Daly, a cover of Italian star Caterina Caselli's 'L'uomo D'oro' with edgy English lyrics by Peter Callander, and Billie Davis' groovy gender switched update of Chuck Willis' R&B nugget 'Whatcha' Gonna Do'.

Comprised of Sello Mmutung and Keith Hutchinson, the original six track album 'Zulu Disco' was laid down in Johannesburg circa 1983.

The original release has almost mystical qualities, no-one actually knows if it had a vinyl release or not. The only known media that exists is the cassette this was mastered from. A super strong EP that doesn't have a weak moment, side A for the full dancefloor, side B for deep afrocentric, mid-tempo chuggers. Including the original version of Picnic, later covered by Starlight and Kumasi..

More demented, brain-damaging Turkish electro-saz & synth drums galore by the mighty Derdiyoklar duo, originally released in 1984! Anadolu Pop doesn't get weirder than this! These two Turkish guys armed with electro-saz, guitar, drums and synthetizers were hitting the Turkish market in Germany where they lived, playing their sets of traditional flavoured electro-folk in weddings and circumcision feasts for Turkish emigrants in Germany. That crazy is the story, that crazy is their sound!!!

The next instalment in the Dubplate series sees the incredible Mojo Filter step up to the plate and lay down one of his famously foot friendly re-works to vinyl for the very first time!

Mojo Filter turns already great tracks into otherworldly escapades for the more discerning dancefloor. Adding a decidedly Ju-Ju Re-Rub to Nina Simone and a darkened heady drive to Dionne Warwick, he delivers a Diva tweaking pair of edits designed to set alight any dance.

!!! Early Independent Hip Hop, Electro And Disco Rap 1979-83 !!!

Soul Jazz Records' new Boombox 2 is a new selection of early rap music from the period 1979-83, with barely a household name in sight. Featured here are some the earliest hip-hop records that came out of New York City following the enormous commercial success of the first ever rap record, 'Rapper's Delight' by the Sugarhill Gang, in September 1979.
Artists and producers alike tried to jump aboard the new commercial possibilities of hip-hop. By the end of the year there were 30 hip-hop singles, all released by independent New York labels. The following year there were over 100 more, and so on.
Boombox 2 tells the story of how hip-hop went from its evolutionary roots in the Bronx through DJs Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa through to its second
phase where veteran music producers - Paul Winley, Peter Brown, Joe Robinson and others - all based in Harlem, began to put rap on vinyl for the first time.
Harlem is also where the separate worlds of disco and hip-hop met through the styles and influence of earlier 'uptown' DJs - DJ Hollywood and Eddie Cheba. In similar fashion these veteran Harlem-based producers instinctively tapped into a long lineage of African-American rhythm and blues, soul and disco.
Boombox 2 is a triple-vinyl set (+ download code) LP and double CD pack that features extensive text, exclusive interviews and stunning photography by Jamel Shabazz, Martha Cooper and others.

The Disconet vaults once again strike gold with 4 more tracks of exclusive edits by the Disconet team from the early 80's.

We kick off with a fantastic extended version of D.C. La Rue's seminal "Cathedrals"... this epic 11 minute version builds and builds and you'll soon be signing along by the end! Next up Time Bandits funk bomb "Live It Up" is sure to rock any discerning dancefloor.

On the flip we have two extended edits of electro-b-boy gems from the early 80's... Man Parrish's "Hip Hop Bebop" is given an extended intro - that really rocks the drums! Two Sisters "High Noon" still sounds fresh as a daisy and straddles the disco/electro boundaries in fine fashion.

Following on from Volumes 1-3, Volumes 4, 5 & 6 contain more unique remixes from the Disconet vaults. 'Volume 5' kicks off with Bohannon's 'Lets Start The Dance' which gives extra oompth to the percussion freak out. Imagination's 'Just An Illusion' is chopped to shred's with a number of other tracks to create something completely unique in 'Streetmix'. On the flip Bounce's little known 'Strut Your Tennis Style' and A Taste Of Honey's chart topper 'Boogie Oogie Oogie' are also given the Disconet Remix treatment.

The Disconet Greatest Hits series continues at a pace with number 7! Up first we have the original Disconet version of Globe & The Whiz Kid's 'Play That Beat', which was the first ever outing of 'Lesson 1 - The Payoff' which pioneered the whole sampling movement. Up next we have the heavy hitting dancefloor Kat Mandu's 'The Break', which has a true carnival feel! On the flip we have the Disconet version of Graffitti's blissful 'Feeling Love' which hit in 1979, and the Moroder inspired 'Dancer Dance' by Pussyfoot.
