When "Nite" first appeared way back in 2006, Chromatics had yet to release their breakthrough album, Night Drive. Since then, the Johnny Jewel-helmed combo has gone on to bigger and better things, with each successive album bringing a fresh wave of success. As this reissue neatly proves, their sound was a little different back then. While there are nods towards their later soundtrack-inspired sound (see "Birds of Prey" and "Sleepwalker"), much of the mini-album is split equally between fuzzy, guitar-heavy art-rock workouts and, more thrillingly, the kind of thrusting, muscular Italo-disco revivalism that Mike Simonetti's Italians Do It Better imprint once excelled at delivering.

Stardust is a magical collaboration of new music from Germany's tiptop funk duo First Touch that combine forces with native master blaster Bybo Funk. This four song up-tempo EP brings charismatic chord arrangements along with sophisticated and infectious basslines together for cosmic dance floor boogie. Hold It Down is a 110 BPM dance floor glider, laying a slick bass line down for bright synth chords for bounce over before a slick breakdown. Something In Me is a 120BPM dance floor fire starter, jumping out with a hard-hitting baseline and drum arrangement intro before laying down crispy tiptop synth chords anda masterful solo and breakdown. Title track Stardust delivers what everybody would expect from a collaboration like this, a 110BPM bass heavy boulevard funk anthem that will have the dance floor leaning side to side with a sophisticated gangster lean! Trippin' is a 115BPM lovers groove with deep and sophisticated chord arrangements wrapped in thick synth bass lines uplifting dance floors with a cosmic love boogie bounce, closing out this collaboration with a sonic baptism carving out new directions in modernfunk!

Herbie Hancock Quartet, live on Soundstage, Chicago 1981.

The early 80s found Herbie Hancock experimenting with disco and pop in the studio, but on stage he continued to turn out stunning jazz performances, often featuring his 20 year-old protégé Wynton Marsalis on trumpet. This remarkable set on the American Live Concert Series, Soundstage, also includes the talents of his long-time collaborator Buster Williams on bass, and the legendary Tony Williams on drums. Originally broadcast on PBS-TV, it's presented here together with background notes and images.

The Disco music fever was also present in the Rumba and Flamenco scene of Spain in the late '70s / early '80s. Producers, sound engineers and studio musicians, collaborated closely with flamenco / rumba singers and bands, highlighting the productions that genius Josep Llobell did for the Belter label in Barcelona. Here you got 12 disco-rumba-flamenco bombs, a time machine to the boites and discotheques of the late 70s and the perfect soundtrack to an imaginary Kinki' cinema soundtrack.

"From The Beginning" is the new Alex Puddu heartbreaking soul album, halfway between the city and the jungle, that takes you back to the early '70s classic songwriting, it features three guest vocalists: Lonnie Jordan - also a co-writer here, founder, musician and vocalist from the band War -, Duane Hobson and Adrian Wilding. The music styles span from West Coast blaxploitation soundtracks to latin-flavoured moods, from mellow R&B tunes to catchy conga-fueled sonic adventures.

Auf seinem Debütalbum zeigt er eindrucksvoll, dass clevere Tanzmusik launig, witzig und humorvoll sein kann und vor allem Spaß macht. "It's Album Time" verspricht eine bunte und abwechslungsreiche Reise durch seinen kompletten Musikkosmos.
Wieder einmal beweist Todd Terje sein todsicheres Gespür für großartige Melodien und sein unheimliches Gefühl dafür, wie die Tracks auf der Tanzfläche perfekt funktionieren.

Von poppigen, cinematisch und rätselhaften tracks wie `Leisure Suit Preben' und 'Preben Goes To Acapulco', zu basslastigen jump up tracks wie 'Svensk Sås', dem fröhlichen 'Strandbar' oder dem stampfenden, intergalaktischen Boogie der ersten Single - Dolorean Dynamite'.
Todd Terje lässt das pure Glück aus den Boxen sprudeln. Wie man Klassikern neues Leben einhaucht zeigt Terje zusammen mit Gastsänger Bryan Ferry auf der gechillten Coverversion von Robert Palmers "Johnny And Mary". 'Alfonso Muskedunder' mit seinem ungewöhnlichem 7/8 Takt und dem euphorischen Refrain markiert den wohl überschwänglichsten Moment auf dem Album. 'Swing Star' war bereits auf der "Inspector Norse" 12' und hat nichts von seinem Reiz verloren. Das Grande Finale des Albums beginnt mit dem außerirdischen Discoknaller "Oh Joy" bevor "Inspector Norse" das Haus endgültig niederbrennt.

In 1976, Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards founded the legendary CHIC Organization Ltd. Together they wrote and produced many number one hits and very quickly became the biggest hit music factory since Motown.
A few years after the dawn of Disco, Nile Rodgers & Bernard Edwards disbanded The Chic Organization Ltd., but they kept on playing & producing, with Nile Rodgers quickly becoming the biggest pop producer of the 80's. In 1983, he produced David Bowie's 'Let's Dance' and in 1984, Madonna's 'Like a Virgin'. Many more artists also benefited from his incredible production skills and unique guitar style, including Mick Jagger, INXS, Duran Duran, Eric Clapton, Hall & Oates, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Mariah Carey, Maroon 5, Michael Jackson, Grace Jones...to name but a few.

A Super rare disco / modern Banger to end the year. Star Quake came out ofColumbus,Georgiaand that's about as far as they got. 'Don't you know I love you' is A Relatively recent spin with O.G copies easily going for over $1000 and with good reason. A disco floater over some brilliant bass, I also edited the B side to remove the fade in so it can now be dropped easily in a club. Happy new Year.

Loleatta Holloway is one of the most distinctive voices in dance music history.

A1/ Guehi Jean Pantalon Craqué Guéhi Jean is a key figure of Ivorian music and many of his records mixing funk, jazz and afrobeat are sought after nowadays. Having left Africa in order to make it in France, he recorded this digital afrobeat hit in Paris, then went back to his native country where he died in 2012. Despite his talent, Guéhi Jean didn't get the recognition he deserved. A2/ Michel Conte & Cie Magoshan A disco anthem composed for Quebec cultists wearing flares, or the main theme from an obscure series Anyway it is time to acclaim Magoshan's pulsing come back on the dancefloo ! B1/ Jean-Michel Gascuel Dominus This French composer who collaborated with Pierre Schaeffer was also a great lyricist working for the likes of Vivian Vee or Suzy Andrews, and a fashion designer. With its Latin touch, this track is a little UFO standing out of the rest of his French productions, so let us be blessed by Dominus Domine Dominarum. B2/Michel Robidoux les Planètes This track by composer Michel Robidoux featured on a kidisk with a book called Visitons les Planètes avec Goldorak' and was released in Canada in 1980. This incredible space jam was chosen as a macaroon for this new EP - our tribute to an amazing composer who wrote more than 325 songs and even collaborated with Leonard Cohen.

Hot off a couple of 12' from Topher Horn, Rocksteady Disco follows up with its first compilation featuring a heap of heavily sampled originals from more well­known editors.Pontchartrain leads the release off with a summer­inspired aural prozac number. Next up is notorious Detroit editor Lafleur, busting out this original milky­smooth Detroit boogie house production. A slight little rearrangement from Rocksteady Disco label boss Peter Croce makes this one a bit more cohesive for the DJs. Lyon, France's G2S (In Any Case) kicks off the flip with a big­bottomed stomper reminiscent of some MCDE 'Raw Cuts'. Pontchartrain book­ends this release with a track that puts the 'rocksteady' in Rocksteady Disco, with heavy analog­meets­electro drum programming and complete with Pontchartrain on vocoder duties
