This new label from Toronto is a thrilling prospect. Its first release — a five-track EP — is a warmly personal, yet cosmically-minded blend of jazz, funk, disco and Fett-style ambience, candidly pitched at the dancefloor. Lovely stuff.

Dark Entries Editions is proud to reissue "Perfect High" the 1983 debut 12' by Peppermint Lounge from Germany. The group consisted of Matthias Elvers (synthesizers, bass), Regina Petersen (vocals) and Jorg Burckhardt (drums, strings). They took their name from a popular 1960s discotheque in New York City. Treading the lines between Italo Disco, Electro, and New Wave, the trio crafted a unique sound difficult to classify. Regina's powerful vocals command attention as they tell the sad tale of a boy searching for the perfect high. The lyrics are based on the poem The Perfect High' by Shel Silverstein. Melancholic arpeggiators, a throbbing baseline, stuttering samples, vocoder and the classic Roland TR-808 drum machine run throughout the track, which builds to a majestic crescendo, ala Klaus Schulze or Jean-Michel Jarre. This reissue includes the original vocal version, backed with a shorter instrumental version.

All songs have been remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The 12' is housed in an exact replica of the original sleeve with black and white Dali-esque drawing. Each copy also includes a 2-sided postcard lyrics and notes.

Fresh, freaking, booty-booting updates of classic eighties electro-boogie like Jam & Lewis and the Troutmans, by this mainstay of the current Toronto scene. Ace.

Hell Yeah Recordings are pleased to announce they have been tempted into the reissue market. As such, the label starts a new offshoot, PERDIO (roughly meaning 'lost' in Portuguese) which will focus on putting out re-issues and new remixes of classic or forgotten gems.

The first one is a newly remastered instrumental version and new Francisco Dub of Giorgia Morandi's 'Children of the Sky', a cover of the Italo-classic "Figli delle Stelle" by Alan Sorrenti which just happened to be released 40 years ago.

When Imarhan released their self-titled debut album in 2016, they stepped into a genre already flooded with talent and exposure, but still managed to rise to the top and be heralded as the new wave Of Tuareg music . It is with much anticipation that the band from Tamanrasset, Algeria have announced the details of their second album Temet, due out February 26 on City Slang.

Temet is a huge leap forward in production, as well as creatively for Imarhan. Whereas their debut was anchored in the meditative Desert Blues tradition, Temet eclipses such notions, finding bounce and drive by stirring their sound with funk, fuzz, disco and rock. This is not a novel concept to the band, as anyone who has seen them play will attest. Imarhan's experience as a touring band has reinforced the focus and meaning behind their music.

With Temet, Imarhan have firmly established themselves as a band to reckon with. Rather than being distracted by meddling around with big producers or famous guests, they've focused this release on their inherent strength of songwriting, using the eternal bonds in their community, families and friendships as a blueprint not only for an amazing standalone album, but as a reference for generations to come. We hope that Imarhan will allow the younger generation to become aware of the fundamental importance of friendship. This project imagines a futuristic scenario - of a post-human society in the Athenian basin and of its music. Robots are reminded of the fundamental joys of playing, singing and dancing with these eight channel cassette recordings, inspired by Greece's complex cultural traditions and associations with Asia and Africa.

Biography: Christos Chondropoulos (b.1984) is a percussionist and producer based in Athens, Greece. He made his debut as a member of the experimental band XYSM. In 2013 he released "Fingerpainting", a solo percussion LP. In 2015 his collaboration with Acid Baby Jesus resulted in two releases on Slovenly Recordings. Notable live performances include 2014's Borderline Festival at The Onassis Cultural Centre and 2017's MAWA Festival. In 2016 he participated in "634 Minutes Inside A Volcano", which brought the Greek improv scene to the cover of New York Times. In 2017 he was invited by Documenta 14 to join the Listening Room programme - his mixtape "Athenian Primitivism" was also transmitted by Documenta 14's "Every Time A Ear di Soun".

The Patchouli Brothers first began throwing parties in an Albanian dive bar in Toronto's east end, but have gone on to grace the stage at a spectrum of the city's establishments.

They hold down a residency at a rotating disco jam called Beam Me Up which, while held monthly at the Piston, has taken place in a film studio, an artist commune, above a furniture store and inside the Great Hall.

Their debut 12" for Basic Fingers features two cuts.
First up 'Wicked One', a fiery slice of gospel served with a rich piano hook.
On the flip we're treated to 'Magic Rhythm (Of Love)', a masterclass in pure disco-funk insanity.

Baad John Cross's New Revolution is a Afro-electro-funk-boogie-disco banger that could only come from 1980s Nigeria. Bright, optimistic, with an unrelenting eye on the dance floor, it is regarded by many as a prototype of the electro rhythms that would become the signature sound of Nigerian boogie. A Cameroonian by birth, Cross arrived in Lagos a cheeky smile, a pair of white dungarees and a bag full of songs. After proving his chops with uncredited session work, he signed with the legendary Coconut label, hooked up with producer Modjo Isidore and created a stone cold boogie classic in New Revolution. 'Gimme Some Lovin' and 'Get Up And Dance Salsa' (briefly a dance craze in Lagos, apparently) are dance floor classics, 'Jeanie My Love' the obligatory love ballad and 'We Need Freedom' a Marleyesque call for peace across the continent. The real surprise is 'Rock n Roll Birthday', a rockabilly number straight out of 80's London. (The cover photo has a similar vibe.) Sadly, New Revolution was to be Baad John Cross's only album. He was soon back in Cameroon, eking out a career as a session musician, but not before creating one of the freshest Nigerian boogie albums ever made.

Originally developed by Rocoe as a mere discographic label, Body Heat has developed further as an all-round platform for all those who believe in funk-fuelled dance music and currently consists in the label, a club night (currently 'the thing' in Milano's nightlife) and a collective of artists, under the 'Body Heat Gang Band' name.
Body Heat Disco' is their frst full album, which aims at giving a perspective on the genres they like to play with: funk/disco/soulful house/ acid jazz and electro. The band gives their own twist to all these genres, taking from the past and bringing them in a contemporary esthetic and sound dimension. Body Heat Disco' is also a show that bridges the gap between live music and club culture, including musicians, mcs, singers, dj, dancers and visual acts - presented in Milano in late 2017 for the frst time, it will be brought to theaters, clubs and ballrooms of all Italy in 2018.

The Soultrend Orchestra is the brainchild of author and arranger Nerio "Papik" Poggi (who has produced more than 20 albums in the last 10 years and has collaborated with several Italian and international artists including Mario Biondi , Matt Bianco, Sarah Jane Morris, Wendy D Lewis and Tom Gaebel) accompanied for this new project by producer and composer Luigi Di Paola with whom Papik has been working for over twenty years.
The first Album related to 'Soultrend' was released in 2011 and was titled 'Groovy Nights'.
Now out of the catalog, it had a glimpse of all their musical experiences and preferred genres : soul, funky, disco and acid
jazz. The Album was mostly appreciated in UK.
The new album by 'Soultrend Orchestra' is entitled '84 King Street', the band gets bigger and Present a more ambitious project than the previous one. The main inspiration is clearly the disco sound of Nile Rodgers & Chic who have been so popular of lately with a worldwide rebirth of this musical style , the sound of the Album is also dipping into the Italo House tradition, recently re-evaluated in today's world of dance, by Italian producers like Mauro Malavasi and his most famous projects 'Change' and 'Peter Jaques Band'.
More than 35 musicians and singers have taken part in the recording of the Orchestra's Album. among the featuring vocalists, Lucy Campeti (from the Duo Groovy Sistas), who has worked with Gabin, Franco Micalizzi, Gloria Gaynor and Mario Biondi, Ely Bruna, (who has featured in most of Papik's projects),
Frankie Lovecchio, (who has collaborated with Claudio Baglioni, Delegation, Mario Biondi, Mike Francis and Amy Stewart), the soul Band 'Adika Pongo', who in 2011 released an album for the historic UK soul label 'Expansion Records',
Frankie Pearl (from the Duo 'Groovy Sistas'), a very talented singer. Los Angeles born, who has featured in the recent years in various Rai TV Shows, Anna Fondi (one half of the 'More Blonde' duo), highly demanded as a vocalist for international dance projects, Letizia Liberati ('More Blonde'), Isabella Canana, Dario Daneluz, all three well-known Italian session vocalists, and to complete the list the Soul duo Janine Johnson and Eli Thompson, aka 'Westcost Soulstars'.
Endless are also the important collaboration of over 20 musicians involved with the Orchestra.
The title "84 King Street" refers to the address of New York legendary "Paradise Garage" disco where Larry Levan (world
renowned Disco DJ) was the main resident and where Disco Music had its highest peak in popularity during the second
half of 70's.

For their debut compilation, Sofrito bring together 15 dynamite tropical grooves old and new ranging from raw cumbia, heavy Congolese soukous, bassline calypso and cosmic highlife. Highlights include an exclusive cumbia by Quantic, 'Cumbia Mochilla', a new edit of a rare Victor Uwaifo disco cut and firing Carnival jams from old-timers Roaring Lion and Mighty Shadow. This isn't about 'world music', this is some of the best dance music ever made.

First ever official reissue of Ice's rare and in demand North Carolina born soul funk jam 'Reality' via Athens of the North Records and Magnetic Recordings. Super rare modern soul / boogie tune. First played by Ian Wright and a Few others on the Deepfunk scene and then picked up by the Northern soul scene.

Arriving at their fourth release, Emotional Rescue's knowledge of forgotten musical gems and their commitment to give them the chance of wider appreciation they fully deserve cannot be in question! After digging out that Bob Chance classic, the focus switches to something of an equally balearic nature with the release of Jaki Whitren & John Cartwright's lost folk rock album International Times. Originally released as a private press on the obscure French label Living Records back in 1983, this eight track album is filled with dusty soul nuggets which are given extra life by the silky vocal stylings of Whitren - formerly a backing singer for Alan Parson. Opening track "Stay Cool" sounds quite ahead of it's time, whilst there are some true dancefloor gems for the more adventurous DJs out there, such as the title track and the laid back bump of "Go With The Flow."

Destination' comes from an album Behind The Mask', recorded and first released in 1982. The project started out intending to be a new Incognito album, and follow up to the debut Jazz Funk', but took a different direction. With Bluey and original members of Incognito at the helm, Behind The Mask' welcomed additional guests musicians to become a separate entity and landmark 80s UK fusion album. Destination' has always been a go-to track, an electrifying full vocal dancefloor filler on the album but never previously released as a 12' single, with the Diffusion Re-Edit never previously available on vinyl. Both versions currently much in demand.

In May 1976 a record was released that would have an unforeseen and lasting impact on the music industry Ten Percent' by Double Exposure was an early release on the New York independent label Salsoul Records. America was in the grip of a disco explosion with new clubs opening on a weekly basis, Salsoul saw what was happening and swiftly created a sound for their label, heavily influenced by the music then coming out of Philadelphia, aimed directly at New York's dance-floors. Records like Salsoul Hustle,' Tangerine' and You're Just The Right Size' by The Salsoul Orchestra borrowed heavily from the beautifully orchestrated Philadelphia International records but added a more percussive, bass heavy depth that New York's DJs loved. So what was so special about this particular single then Double Exposure was, after all, just another band, Ten Percent' just another song, one of many disco' records released that week. First of all Salsoul became the first record label to make a twelve inch single available to Joe Public - the exotic format was previously only available to DJs as promotional items or bought under the counter at certain record stores. Not only that though, the extended version was created by Walter Gibbons, a DJ at New York's Galaxy 21 who'd built his reputation making exclusive versions of tracks to play in his sets. In 1976 it was unheard of for a DJ to set foot in a recording studio, being seen as little more than living jukeboxes by the serious music industry. Recording studios were strictly the domain of recording artists and producers so Walter found himself in a unique position, gaining access to a world no DJ had been granted before. Or so we thought...
The Men In The Glass Booth tells the full story. Featuring ground breaking re-edits and remixes by some of the Disco era's most influential DJs including Walter Gibbons, Bobby DJ Guttadaro, Tom Savarese, Jellybean Benitez, Tee Scott and John Luongo, this opulent release also includes a 40 page book which features exclusive photos and insights from some of the story's key figures.

Our fifth release is the Las Vegas Connection, who were a New Orlean band from the 1970s that released two singles on Senator Jones 'Hep Me.' This will be a limited press of 500 units only which has been licensed through Warren Hildebrand and Mardi Gras Music. 'Running Back To You' is a glorious soulful dancer that has received plays in recent years on the rare soul scenes across the globe. On the flip is the uptempo disco grooved 'Give Me Your Love' with a luscious vocal delivery from Jackie Pettis.

LA disco balearic duo Poolside bring us a limited 12' featuring four Edits from Poolside including Delegation's soul classic Oh Honey' and Bohannon Save Their Souls. International Feel's newest signing Private Agenda are taking us back to a time when soul first met synthesisers, shoulder pads were as vital as the right Berlin address and Sheffield met the sonic Caribbean playground of Compass Point.

It was from this juxtaposed melting pot that the early seeds of Alfredo's Balearic Beat movement gathered pace and 'Déjà Vu' is a cocktail of Linda Di Franco, a Roxy Music esque aesthetic, bound together by elements of the inventive, contemporary production values of artists such as Todd Terje and Prins Thomas. 'Freefalling' on the reverse proves a fitting reflection of Private Agenda's wider vision. Finding sonic roots in early Balearicism - ethereal vocal lines over delicate percussion.

Uniting their disparate tastes and talents for the first time, the trio's debut single, 'Déjà Vu', provides a wonderful introduction to their world where production values are as detailed as they are bombastic lyrics, as reflective as they are bold.

Private Agenda are Martin, Sean & Nick. Martin's first synthesiser was an organ. He met Sean in German class. Sean was famous at school for his Mercuryesque indierockband stage presence and was especially dedicated to the art of songwriting. A few years later in Berlin, Martin moves in with Nick. The first time they worked together, they went for hours straight without a break. "I wanted to watch him mix music forever, it was magic," Martin recalled. Although it could have happened anywhere, Berlin was the place they all came together for the first time. Ladies and gentlemen, Private Agenda.

The groove is intensified by layers of shredding guitar, percussion and some instrumentation that sounds otherworldly. Groove Line Records are proud to add to their 2015 releases of half-speed mastered re-issue singles with both the extended special disco version and instrumental version of Earth Wind & Fire's 1976 funk bomb Getaway gracing each side of a 180g 12' virgin vinyl disc.

Looking to gain on his groups critical and commercial success from the early 1970s EW&F's main man Maurice White brought in the legendary Charles Stepney, who had tutored him at Chicago's Chess Records in the 1960s, as the co-producer and arranger on their incredible 1976 album Spirit, which opened up with the formidable funk track Getaway.

Co-written by guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Bernard 'Beloyd' Taylor (S.O.U.L.) and songwriter Peter Corbelenky around the theme of escapism and self-fulfilment, the primal urgency of Getaway was the ideal composition for White to record with EW&F. White felt the song's energy and positive, uplifting lyrics matched the attitude and ethos of his group perfectly. As a result EW&F created a funk gem both musically and lyrically perfect for the dance floor.

The overwhelming immediacy of the multi-layered, arresting intro/bridge suggests the group had almost been held back in the stalls before being allowed to let rip on this classic recording. The urgency and excitement that envelopes the listener from the very first second is immediately taken up a level by the increasing momentum of the ascending riff which quickly reaches fever pitch by the time the track has only reached eight seconds! EW&F's trademark brass sound then takes centre stage on the first chorus with a punching, staccato horn line while the opening vocals invite you to '...leave today, let's getaway.' Concluding with a twelve note harmony of horns (borrowed' by so many dance floor tracks since) the break neck momentum is maintained in to the first verse which introduces, thanks to arranger Charles Stepney, an even more intricate horn line over a funky, viscous rhythm section before Maurice White, Philip Bailey and Verdine White blend effortlessly to deliver the impassioned vocals. The innate funkiness of the whole group is then exposed in an extended instrumental sequence before the bridge, slightly adapted from the intro, introduces the second chorus and verse. On this pass Stepney then cleverly places a third rousing chorus before the group stretch out on another extended instrumental section before verse three. The intensity is ramped up even more with an otherworldly, two second, stand alone synthesizer part added to the bridge, which heralds the extended chorus outro over which the groups vocalists soar until the track fades. And all of this within just over five minutes.

The clever arrangement on this track and the complex musicianship displayed on it become even more apparent with the 3 minute 50 second instrumental version on the B-side where you can lose yourself within the intricate rhythms. On its release in the summer of '76 Getaway topped the Billboard R&B charts for two weeks and crossed over to #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and to this day puts R&B, Funk & Disco fans old and new under its enduring spell.
