Daughter of the mighty George Kerr, Sandy set the scene alight in ’82 with the explosive classic, ‘Thug Rock’. Badass slap basslines, zapping synths, ethereal pads and Sandy’s iconic rap were a timeless recipe of pure ‘80s, boogie-infused power that’s blasted from many a boombox, sung on all manner of club systems and sound tracked endless open road cruises over the years.

Released on the South Carolina label Catawba Records, two prolific duos blessed ‘Thug Rock’ alongside Sandy and co. Her father, who produced for the likes of Alice Clark and The O’Jays and Sugarhill wizard, Reggie Griffin, headed up the production and arrangement, with ever-dependable M&M aka John Morales & Sergio Munzibai taking the reins on the mix. Their combined talents can be heard in the tangible weight of the track, each element getting the space it deserves to facilitate that crystal-clear clout - from the huge bass riffs and sublime keys, to the punchy drums and Kerr’s infectious rap. An earworm if ever there was one!

Take to the flip to find the much in-demand dub version, echoing out choice snippets of Sandy’s rap to focus in more on that killer boogie-funk groove. Original copies are tough to come by in the UK, so an official reissue will be music to many an ear.

When the past and the future collide, unexpected things can happen. And when we have music at the core and such talent providing the raw materials being the vector for this encounter is a privilege we like to gloat. Carioca avant-gardiste Guerrinha's Repetentes 2008 is a project that is close to our hearts and minds through its rare ability to convey deep nostalgia in a playful futuristic way, renovating a tradition that is the quintessence of their hometown's musical heritage with a zest for jest. Exactly what the offer here in two irresistible grooves that, while maintaining the clarity of references they lie upon, refresh them in a joyful way: 'Missão Misturebar' and 'Judas Preist'. The flipside 'Gelo Geronimo' takes us across a similar path, but intensifies the emotional element and desnifies the rhythmic components to deliver the kind of track that only a master of French alchemy such as Gilb'r could transmutate by subverting its principles in a somewhat darker take. How about that for science

Africa Seven is taking its first trip to Germany... Well Germany via Cameroon. Charlie Kingue Soppo is better known as Charly Kingson, cousin of Manu Dibango and a Cameroonian emigrant in the 1970s. Charly first headed to Paris and then found his way to Munich in 1978. He recorded two albums in his career, "Born In Africa" in Munich in 1978 and "Dance To The Music" two years later in New York.

For this outing we focus on his debut "Born In Africa". It was recorded in Union Studios in Munich with some of the city's finest (and surprisingly funky) session musicians of the day.

The LP opens up with "Nimele Bolo" a trademark Africa Seven sound if ever there was one… early growling analog synths, big stabby brass and afro rhythms. Add in Charlys vocals and it is easy to see why this track was a highlight of our recent African Airways 04 Funk compilation. Next it is time for smooth ballad, "Makakane Masu" and its smooth jazz overtones. Next "Manyaka" the suspenseful string section, octaving keys and percussive horns drive the wah wah guitar and Charlys brooding song.

On the flip side we open up with the rolling bass and swinging brass of lead track "Born In Africa". This track was a single and it's the perfect microcosm of the album elements in one track. It even manages to name check all the big afro musicians of the time. "Nanga Boko" and its big smiles all around for the good time synth-boogie funk. We close off the LP with "Reviens-Moi" a pensive ballad about Charly's forlorn love. He wants her back of course.

After Charly moved on from recording in the 1980s he stayed in Germany, performing in a series of local jazz and funk bands. We tracked him down in 2016 and we really pleased to be re-releasing his debut long player at Africa Seven. It sounds just as relevant (if not more so) in 2018 as it did 40 years ago in 1978.

Returning to a brief but very fruitful period in electronic music production, Shelved Recordings exists to look back to the golden age of the remix, with a clear view of the future it imagined.

Artists who were steered towards maverick producers, with a view to changing the rules, to re-defining the terms of what modern music should and could be.
Pioneering techniques, over-dubs and an exploratory period of pop production, resulted in many lost dub versions and mixes. Mixes, which invariably were left on the shelf, deemed too 'out there' by the bosses of the the hedonistic label managers who commissioned them.

Shelved will present a series of limited double 12" releases comprised of carefully reconstructed and rebuilt lost classics from someone who was there the first time around !

Italo disco rarity originally released in 1985 on Discomagic. Comes with Flemming Dalum and Longdrink remixes.

Apparently when this album was originally released in 1972, confused and bewildered fans, expecting more of the same found on Transa, released earlier that year, returned the album to the shop, demanding a refund. Meanwhile, critics raved, and many now consider Araçá Azul known as CAETANO VELOSO's 'experimental album' to be one of his great creative moments. To be fair to his many fans, it was a stark departure from his previous releases, which were decidedly more pop, but Veloso had been through a lot recently, having just returned from political exile in the UK, so it is no wonder that the artist was feeling a bit like he needed to fly in the face of conformity. In Veloso‚s own words, 'I made this album without thinking, without taking the time to stop to think.' He refers to the album's 'insolent experimentalism' and calls it a kind of 'last stand.' After the first release by Dirty Channels and huge supports from Palms Trax, The Black Madonna, Annie Mac, Rampa, Disclosure, Tom Trago and many others, Take It Easy is back! The second release of the label connected to the well-know party Take It Easy in Milan, comes from the party and label co-owner DJLMP. For his debut EP, DJLMP shows his eclectic vision of the club music, passing throw disco samples, house music and percussive vibes. "Blow Your Mind" open the EP with an epic and dreamy filtered sample. On a2, DJLMP gives his dancefloor and house vision of "Kachi Kachi" by the brilliant In Flagranti. Edging in a little 80's sauce to meet with tought and gritty dancefloor attentions "Tiger Cat" is a clear highlight on the record. "Angry" close the EP with its disco percussions and trumpets. Perfect tool to cross between house and disco tracks.

In 1982 Atmosfear hit their prime with the release of this underground

classic, ‘Xtra Special’. A gear switch from their jazz-funk origins, this boogie

track featuring the sublime vocals of Beverley Skeete, is a prime example of an

innovative band at their peak.

Aura Safari are: Alessandro Deledda, Andrea Moretti, Lorenzo Lavoratori, Daniele Melloni and Nicholas Iammatteo.

The band started with the meeting of a musician and a group of DJ's / producers coming from different musical backgrounds and generations. Aura Safari is the union of various musical eras and influences such as Jazz Fusion, 80's Boogie, World Music, Italo House, Balearic Beats and Jazz Funk.

Years spent in the local scene of Perugia (Italy) attending Umbria Jazz Festival every summer and winter nights at the legendary Red Zone Club have shaped the sound of Aura Safari.

The LP is an example of their true love of music across a vast spectrum.

Full Intention's Michael Gray returns with his re-work of one of best Italo Soul anthems from the 80's, being Advance's 'Take Me To The Top'! Originally released on the Italian 'X-Energy' label in 1982, this one was in fact the record that built the X-Energy label. Released in cooperation with Michael's new outfit 'Sultra', High Fashion brings you the Michael Gray 'Sultra' remix together with his very playable 'Michael Gray Dub' on the flip side. A must have for all Disco lovers.

Jonny Soso - True Girl is a nice mellow discoish tune which I recorded with Michael Tomlinson who is an Australian singer, song writer and performer who began his career in indie-rock band Yves Klein Blue. He has shared stages alongside acts such a Franz Ferdinand, The Polyphonic Spree, Justice & The Vines to name just a few.
The past few years Tomlinson has been working on a number of different projects - he's been touring with Klaxons' James Righton in his group Shock Machine (which is made up of members from Metronomy, Friendly Fires and Citizens) as well as throwing himself into the London circuit, playing and writing with any number of groups - most notably with Factory Seconds & Jean K.

The Remix comes from Hifi Sean a DJ, Producer and Songwriter, currently known for his album 'FT', the album boasts collaborations with an extraordinarily diverse range of artists including Yoko Ono, Bootsy Collins, Fred Schneider and more...
'FT' has attracted significant critical praise and broke the top 20 album chart.
Hifi Sean is most famously know as front man of the Scottish band The Soup Dragons, responsible for a series of huge hit singles; 'I'm Free', 'Divine Thing', and 'Mother Universe' in the mid 90's.

Dinosaur L is an alias donned by Arthur Russell, a man whose contribution to dance music from the late seventies and through the eighties was formidable but only quietly acknowledged. His innovative and left field dance records were way ahead of what people were used to hearing at the time. He was a cellist who studied classical and Indian music. As well as his great strides in dance music he was also involved in the New York downtown avant-garde music scene and produced some albums in a more avant-garde / experimental vein as well as trying his own unique approach to pop. He scored several hits on the underground New York dance scene at clubs like The Paradise Garage (Larry Levan was a huge supporter). His biggest tunes, 'Go Bang!' and 'Is It All Over My Face' were worldwide club hits and are still played today as classics. His records have influenced the scene from his first dance record in 1979 to the present day and his work has been much sampled. Sadly Arthur
died in 1992, but his music lives on and his influence is still felt on the dance music scene, his tunes still sound great and are still moving many dancers around the world, so his spirit lives on. Sleeping Bag Records and Traffic Entertainment Group is proud to present Dinosaur L's '24-24 Music' for the first time ever on double LP. Includes the original album tracklisting plus rare 12'remixes and edits.

For its second release, Strangelove resurrects two cuts from the Australian cult synth pop duo, ARVO's, much-mythologised 1984 album "Luna". Having spent time in Europe and with heads & heartsfull of the continent's synth-pop movements, Deborah Gray and Roy Nicolson each returned Down-under to discovera doggedly rock orientated landscape. Finding solace in Roy's studio and inspired by their musical O.E.'s, the ARVO concept was formed and an album took shape. A glamorous visual/electronic opus, major label misjudgment and local bewilderment left 'Luna' to unjustly slip under the radar.

Rescued here, "Bikini" channels an Ipanema electronic vibe, nostalgically recalling Antipodean beach culture while the synthetic undercurrents of"So Deep" reflect on the nature of our dreams. Also presented is a reimagined "So Deep'' instrumental from Australia's synth pop scholar-in-chief Hysteric, while French M.O.T.M. Shelter tailors Bikini into an excursion version.

An instantly recognisable intro that Daft Punk turned into one of their most well-known anthems, 'Harder Better Faster Stronger' - Edwin Birdsong's 'Cola Bottle Baby' is straight up insatiable, late '70s funk fire.

To think this was made nearly 40 years ago - it sounds as delicious as the day it was released and one of those classics that was way ahead of the game. It'd be hard to find anyone that doesn't feel some level of nostalgia in those opening 15 seconds, but not many would be able to name the original behind the sample.

A futuristic leaning jazz funk sound, in part created by the quacked-out bass synth and ringing ride cymbal but grounded in the grooving funk bass, twanging guitar and electrifying keys. An amalgamation of sounds from pop, disco and funk to jazz and electro, there's no denying Birdsong's talents - a flair that would lead him to collaborate with the mighty Roy Ayers.

On the B side, 'Freaky Deaky Sities' ramps up the tempo but carries on that mix of the futuristic and the funk - an ode to all the disco dancers out there. Talkbox business married with Birdsong and his backing's call and response, bongos and cowbells side by side with rock styled guitars, it's a pure power play for the dancefloor.

An underrated talent given a new lease of the life - officially, remastered and reissued for the first time on 12-inch vinyl for a fuller, louder pressing.

together two of the standout moments from ‘Physical’ into one irresistible slab of nocturnal electro. Combining the tectonic sleaze of ‘I Get’ with the roll call to rave transcendence of ‘Harder Rhythm’, Gurnsey creates, naturally, ‘I Get Harder’. Italian talent Enzo Conoga launches his first single on WATAJ Recordings. Obscure disco infected of Latin jazz / funk in honor of the tropical side of the savannah and the felines that dominate it.

The Belgian duo San Soda and Red D entered the world of recorded music some 12 years ago with the inception of Red D’s label We Play House Recordings. A few years later their collaboration continued in the studio with the start of the FCL project, leading to original and remixed club hits.

In the meantime both have gained considerable mileage and reputation as adventurous DJ’s who are not afraid to take risks and with a ‘no boundaries’-approach to playing music. Being Belgian they continue to find inspiration in Belgium’s rich music and clubbing history, which led to the ‘Our Beat Is Still New’ compilation in 2013 on We Play House Recordings. Both San Soda and Red D contributed some tracks and thus the aliases Nick Berlin and Max Erotic were born.

Fast forward to today and Club Belgique, a concept Red D has been brooding on for quite some time. A true tribute to Belgium’s club (music) heritage which consists of club nights and also a new label for fresh material by himself and San Soda in his Nick Berlin guise. This release brings you that new material in the form of two tracks situated between new beat, synth pop and italo disco. Long live Belgium!

Kokoro Disco-San are an experienced trio of musicians and producers from Barcelona who have clearly been studying the moods and variations of the nu-disco breeze. Coming at you like a warm scirocco from tropical climes, Isla Fantasia has all the hallmarks of a Joey Negro/MAW production waiting to happen. Peppy 4-to-the-floor beats per minutes that rise and fall in all the right places, catchy synth riffs, echoey Brazil-inspired Backing vocals that just make you want to levitate somewhere between Rio de Janeiro and Ibiza.

The B side, Sonic Feeling, is equally thrilling with its driving bassline somewhere between Brothers Johnson, Azymuth and the Players Association, plus tons of those disco whizz, fizz, bangs that frankly just make you want to smile a lot after a few drinks.

No summer cocktail party should be attended without this crashing in at around midnight to get the foot action started.

Timeless drum-machine soul music from genius Brit-Funk pioneer John Rocca. Pink Rhythm were a mid-80s evolution of Rocca's London-based band Freeez, featuring the great Andy Stennett and Peter Maas.

"Melodies Of Love" was first released in 1985 yet, still sounding staggeringly fresh, it's no surprise that discerning DJs call on it now more than ever. As the title suggests, it's so melodically profound and so effortlessly funky, once you hear it, you never forget it. Accordingly, it has been growing in demand on 12" for the past decade.

Gliding serenely, its epic, melancholic synths appeal to fans of Italo, whilst its stabbing Moog bassline and wall-shaking drums retain an unmistakable boogie / electro-disco feel. Rocca himself delivers a memorably androgynous vocal that only adds to the majesty.

Backed with the strutting sax workout "Walking In The Rain", this officially licensed, remastered 12" - presented in a heavier sleeve than the original - is one not to miss.

“The year is 1982. Rita Mitsouko has not yet recorded its eponymous debut album. The pile of ashes that once was Disco is still smoking on the field of Comiskey Park. New Wave is a phrase, Post-Punk Rock a thing. In France, young musicians dream of New York City – some with more devotion than others. Lapassenkoff are to early 1980’s downtown New-York what seminal New Wave act Marie Et Les Garçons (who met John Cale on their way to CBGB) are to the city’s musical scene in the late 1970’s: an unexpected cousin from Lyon.

Indeed, going through Shing ‘n’ Tsé! sometimes feel like an impromptu meeting between John Lurie and Tom Tom Club in the basement of some French record store. If we press pause for a minute, a question comes to mind: how on earth such a unique blend of funk, post-punk, jazz fusion & hip hop (!) – more easily associated with, say, The Mudd Club, than with Les pentes de la Croix-Rousse – made its way to the brains of three French musicians?

The answer probably lies in a Swiss chalet, some 40 kilometers away from Zurich. Sent there by the wise people from Mosquito (the label which also gave Ramuntcho Matta and Carte de Séjour the opportunity to record their first album), the band experiences Alpine ennui and mysterious neighbours (a certain Carlos Peron, for instance). That is probably during this stay in Swiss meadows that they opened a Pandora’s box called experimental music, leading them into recording the mind-blowing sample-based – and accidentally proto-everything – M Le Maudit,, that would later grace Belgian airwaves via the famous Liaisons Dangereuses radio show.

But if we’re looking for a bigger picture, M Le Maudit is just an example of how inventive their approach to music was. This compilation is a testimony of a decade-long feverish flirt between the Lyon trio and dance music. From the infectious electric boogie cuts Shing A Ling and Roadie to the somehow euro-house-fuelled Ma Poubelle Angelina, via many unclassifiable yet iconic songs like Bossi Le Bosseman or Fièvres, Frissons, the compilation demonstrates one thing: Lapassenkoff took the road less traveled by and contributed to a different history of French Pop music.”

'Waves Take Hold', is a kaleidoscopic, life-affirming exercise in late 1980's style Italian Dream House, that's so warm and rush-inducing that it's likely to get the hairs on the back of your neck standing to attention.
Full of ricocheting drum machine hits, sun-bright lead lines, elongated chords and rich bass, it sounds like it was tailor-made to soundtrack sunrise in Rimini...

Bonnie & Klein 'Ocean Leap' taken from the Ocean Leap EP
There's a deeper and dreamier feel to the 'Ocean Leap' track, whose bubbly melodic motifs and synthesizer panpipe flourishes offer subtle nods towards 1980's Greek new age electronic composers such as Vangelis Katsoulis amd Dimitris Petsatakis.
Bonnie & Klein's synthesizer-heavy melodiousness comes accompanied by dub disco strength bass and undulating, off-kilter drums, but retains the rush-inducing bliss associated with the pioneering work of their Greek predecessors.

AA is given up to the 10 minute + track from Mirage: 'Endless Ocean' taken from their Reflections of the Sun EP.

'Endless Ocean' is a slowly building masterpiece. After a hushed, atmospheric opening, the track bubbles away on waves of hazy bongo beats, lapping water sounds and seductive chords before rushing skywards in a swarming swirl of trance-style synthesizer lead lines, echoing electronics and picturesque piano motifs.

The eight chapter of the infamous Slow Motion Compilation series, “Italian Dance Wave Disco Otto”, has quite some hidden gems to be discovered. Beginning with a track from Marcello Giordani DJ (half of the duo Marvin & Guy), that expresses a perfect Italian melancholic sunset (as the title also states), energetic, strong, but always poetic. Always following that "beachy" vibes we find The Caribbean House, serving a track that could last a century, and we would never mind. Electro hints mixing with deep and balearic vibes: ears glued to the headphones. Moreover, we have again Slow Motion queen, System Olympia with a track that could make even nuns sweat on the dancefloor: beats and bass to die for. To close this chapter, you can pamper your ears with a angry balearic track from Gallo, not suited for the more weak hearts, that’s for sure.

Both highly sought after versions of this legendary floorpackin' Sister Funk tune outta Florida, rawer original hard-nosed Gulfstream label version backed with the later smoother Alwa more Disco-ish release, a 45 suiting the 'Funky Northern Soul' sound appealing to Soulies, Funk heads & B-boys alike, re-reissued due to public demand here on a nice great-sounding RS label 45!

Kapitan is Dori Sadovnik, half of the groundbreaking dancefloor-scorching duo Red Axes.

In his debut solo LP Alaska, Kapitan takes us on a journey into the deepest realms of his inner psyche. Through his modular synth experimentations, his analogue approach for synthesis and organic instruments he created an lp that is both personal and outgoing, fresh and nostalgic at the same time.
