Arabesque's third LP, 'Marigot Bay' (also known as 'Arabesque III'), was released 1980 and was a little unusual one in the sense of the music itself. All in all, Disco was four of five years old and had become a little unfashionable to the general public. So, now we can call 'Marigot Bay' 'an album where Euro Disco was born' — the dance rhythms and the singers' natural charms were reinforced with things unusual for the pure American Disco style, specifically the rock'n'roll guitar and vocal stylings. So the glorious results: 'Jingle Jangle Joe' sounded very much like a remake of Cher's 1966 hit 'Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)' and 'Take Me Don't Break Me' is a true rock'n'roll tune with a Disco beat. And one more thing: 'Marigot Bay' was the very first album in the history of Disco where the songs have quite serious lyrics, not just 'dance, dance, dance...' But the ballad 'The Only Night Was A Lonely Night' stands head and shoulders over all the other songs on the album, and it was one of the most popular Arabesque's tracks in then-USSR. This latest Mirumir re-issue is a truly deluxe one: all songs are remastered from the analog tapes, sleeve design restored on silver foiled card paper and there's 8-page booklet with song lyrics and rare band photos.

The fourth Arabesque LP, 'Midnight Dancer' (initially released as 'Arabesque IV' back in 1980) may be called 'that song album' in all former USSR states. It's quite paradoxical, but the title track (we mean 'Midnight Dancer' here) wasn't released as a single in then-Western Germany or Japan, and even wasn't placed on the Soviet Arabesque Greatest Hits LP. Anyway, 'Midnight Dancer' became not just a main song of Arabesque in Russia back in the 80s, but it still one of the Eurodisco symbols here up to now. This song collection is a little bit more straightforward than 'Marigot Bay' — most tracks are very danceable with tempo around the classic 120 bpm for the best of any discotheque itself. This Mirumir re-issue is a real deluxe one: all songs are newly remastered from analog tapes, sleeve design fully restored on silver foiled card paper and LP comes with 8-page booklet with song lyrics and rare band photos.

Challenger is the first and only album from disco project Baby's Gang - one of the most talked about items among collectors of Italo disco. Their first hit tune, "Happy Song", appeared in 1983 and was so beloved by Boney M producer Frank Farian that he included a cover version on their LP "Kalimba De Luna". When it arrived a couple of years later, the full album was a whole platter of hits. After a few more years, in 1988, their final single was the hit "Disco Maniac", after which the creative activity of the project ended.
This MIRUMIR LP, in addition to new mastering and high-quality printing, includes two additional tracks that were not on the original album: the original version of "Happy Song" (recall that in the remix album came out in 1985) and a maxi-version of "Disco Maniac".

Gianni Coraini, better known under the pseudonym Ken Laszlo, released only one album in the eighties but that has not prevented him from being one of the more beloved artists of the Italo disco scene. Ken Laszlo can be compared with such bright stars of the 80s disco scene as Savage or Fancy. The first release in Europe became a hit single. "Hey Hey Guy", was released in 1984 under the pseudonym Ken Laszlo. His songs "Tonight", "Glasses Man", "Don't Cry", and "1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8", all published under the same pseudonym, also became big hits in discos across Europe and beyond. The S/T debut album which includes all those tracks and more is reissued here on LP!

Project Koto, one of the main Italo disco legends from the 80s until now had in their discography one "blank spot", which is now filled in by the Mirumir label.
Koto became popular in the early 80s and released several very successful singles on their own label Memory Records (where, by the way were releases from Baby's Gang, Ken Laszlo and other popular Italo disco performers). However, things were going badly at the company, so the entire roster (along with the brand Koto) was sold to the German company Bernhard Mikulski. Because of this, all of the early hits on their debut album, 'Masterpieces' were presented in the form of remixes and remakes, while the original versions remained scattered on inaccessible singles and compilations. Mirumir, with the kind permission of ZYX Music GmbH, presents the album 'The Original Masterpiece', which brings together the very original versions of hits that first brought glory to Koto.

Future Generation is the first and most successful album of the Dutch Italo disco / spacesynth project from producer Eric Van Fleet and Michiel van der Kuy. Laserdance incorporates soulful cosmogony, space and Jean-Michel Jarre, putting it on a Hi-NRG-rail a la Patrick Cowley and other pioneers of synthesizer dance music. The album was first published in Holland in 1987, where it was warmly received by the audience and sold nearly 150 thousand copies. Future Generation, often called the "bible of spacesynth", significantly increased interest in music in this genre. Reissued on LP.

Limited vinyl 12' reissue of this 1979 African disco classic from the great Mr Cecil Bunting MacCormack aka Bunny Mack. A perfect fusion of disco, funk and calypso, produced by fellow Sierra Leonean Akie Deen, this sweaty, pumping disco shaker has timeless dancefloor appeal and is still a big DJ play today especially after being revived as a contemporary club hit by Masters at Work and Anane and also sampled to great effect by Wale for his hip-hop banger 'My Sweetie'. Side B features the highly sought-after and very useful instrumental version 'Love You Forever'.

Top quality reissue of this double-A sider from 1977 featuring full 12' long versions of two hard-to-find disco bombs from soul songstress Eloise Laws. Both cuts were true Paradise Garage classics receiving heavy rotation on the NYC disco underground of the time and it's not hard to see why. First up is 'Love Goes Deeper Than That', a great pumping rump-shaker driven along by some seriously bad-ass percussion and squelching bass topped with Ms Laws' searing vocals. Flip over for serious floor-filler 'Put A Little Love Into It', a soulful slo-mo groover laced with super-funky horns, unstoppable bass and some neat steel pan touches. A superb release - don't miss!

Super hot limited vinyl reissue featuring two highly sought after 1981 Afro Boogie monsters by Nigerian songstress Oby Onyioha on the original Lagos based Time Records label. With production credited to Jake Sollo protegé Lemmy Jackson, both tracks here are stunning - 'Enjoy Your Life' is a proper funk bomb with heavy bass, gorgeous layered strings and a faultless vocal performance from Ms Onyioha while 'I Want To Feel Your Love' is an irresistible smooth sweet gem, with Oby's serene vocals light as a summer breeze over the top of a serious Afro boogie groove. Highly recommended!

Wonderful remastered reissue of the impossible to find Afro Disco bomb 'Sex Revoluton' by Max B, originally released back in 1978 on the tiny Spanish label Movieplay and now changing hands for big bucks with collectors. All tracks are great but the real standouts here are the super funky percussion-heavy title track 'Sex Revolution' plus the full-length nine and a half minute LP version of the killer flute-driven Afro groover 'Super Bwana' as well as the incredible and highly sought after Serge Gainsbourg inspired 'Possesion', a sleazy slow burner with sultry French spoken word vocals. Essential.

Paqua unveil their debut album, Akaliko, a Buddhist word meaning 'Timeless' !
Back in 2012, a 12' slipped out with little fanfare that introduced a new transatlantic trio: Paqua. That record, the hazy, low-slung psychedelic rock masterpiece 'Dinosaur Zappa' was merely a taster; a year later, the trio followed it up with 'Late Train', a dub-soaked Balearic rock chugger that went on to become an anthem at open-air parties around the globe.
'Timeless' is an apt description for an album that bristles with sun-kissed beauty, fuzzy guitars, impeccable instrumentation and far-sighted late night charm.
It is, in essence, a perfect fusion of the renowned styles of its creators, British DJ/ producer Paul Murphy (AKA Mudd, famed for his deliciously Balearic compositions for Rong Music and his own Claremont 56 label), longtime collaborator Alex Searle, and Quinn Luke from New York's Phenomenal Handclap Band, an act renowned for their funk-fuelled, flash-fried take on disco-inspired rock. With these three at the helm, you're in safe hands.
The supporting musical cast includes Phenomenal Handclap Band drummer Patrick Wood, percussionist Patrick Dawes (famed for his work with Groove Armada), and Faze Action's Robin Lee, who provides cello on a number of tracks. It's a thoroughbred consortium that helps provide Akaliko with a textured musical richness that's never less than intoxicating.
Across the album's eight tracks, Paqua run through a range of styles, from the Latininfluenced shuffle of 'These Things Will Come' and disco-flecked dancefloor stormer 'Ruby Running Faker', to the blissful Balearic rock shuffle of 'We Are What We Are' and stoned dub-rock-disco shuffle of the title track, which builds in layers towards a breathless climax. The band's two acclaimed singles, 'Dinosaur Zappa' and 'Late Train', sound as resplendent as ever amidst such heady sounds.

A unique collection featuring four rarities from the early career of genre-straddling New Wave heroes Talking Heads that all became hits on the underground dancefloors of New York and Chicago. First up is the brilliant 1979 African influenced 'I Zimbra', a tough tribal workout with hypnotic bongo beats and chants. Next comes 'Pull Up The Roots' with its fantastic uptempo guitar riff, slap bass and David Byrne's unmistakable voice. Flip over for the grinding hypnotic groove of much celebrated off-the-wall dancefloor bomb 'Once In A Lifetime'. And finally, another down-tempo burner 'Born Under Punches', once again taking the disco into dirty and dark territory with a rough relentless b-line and mournful discordant vocals. A superb sampler of the originality and genius of the early Talking Heads - great stuff!

It is 1983 and you've just stepped into your Ford Capri with your girlfriend Julie. You live in Harlow, but in your head you're really somewhere near Salou in Spain, next to your yacht. But the thing you really love is soul and they play nothing but at Sups in Loughton. OK, so It's not 1983 at all. It's 2014, but listening to this electrofied soul, will put you back in the zone. Tom Findlay, one half of Grammy-nominated Groove Armada, has put this collection together: a stamp of authenticity in itself. Tom has also put a few of these through the edit wringer, reworking many of the tunes for maximum towelling sockability.
You'll probably recognise a few tunes. There's Mtume's incredible 'Juicy Fruit', still sounding advanced and modern, while 'I Specialize In Love, mixed by disco legend Tee Scott, is even older yet sounds equally perky.
The 1980s was a period that was pretty much owned by Minneapolis thanks to Prince and former cohorts Jam & Lewis and the latter weigh in with a pair of killer productions, Thelma Houston's 'You Used To Hold Me So Tight' and Alexander O'Neal's 'What's Missing'. And since this is Late Night Tales, there is always our exclusive cover version, this time done by Findlay and Tim Hutton's Sugardaddy, who've delivered an ace version of 'Don't Look Any Further'.
Grab yourself a bar stool, order a cocktail, take a sip and make believe you're lying on a shagpile carpet with the soul star of your dreams.
Bill Brewster
Automatic Soul, like my previously compiled Late Night Tales Music For Pleasure, is based very much on a sound. It's a sound that I feel has been overlooked: 80s R&B-infused music, with drum machines, synths and invariably brilliant vocals. It's formed the bedrock of my rare groove sets for all the years I've played. It's not the most fashionable, but to me it's the perfect marriage of technology and soul, hence the title for this album, Automatic Soul. There are plenty of songs I could have included, and no doubt some that I shouldn't, but I've tried to represent what's best to me from this era. It's not a classic Late Night Tales. It's a pretty personal journey, which I hope some of you might be willing to share... Tom Findlay Groove Armada September 2014.

Top quality remastered reissue of Ike Strong's disco boogie classic Boogie Land. Originally released back in 1981 on the tiny underground disco label Willker, this dancefloor bomb is now hugely in-demand. Both sides are absolute killers - the A side features great vocals from Ike Strong over super funky phat bass and wah wah guitars but don't forget the flip side where the groove get stripped down to the bare instrumental funk with just the relentless driving female vocal 'You can't help but dance when you hear it Boogie land' - she couldn't be more right! Must have.

It seems like no part of the world has evaded disco's ubiquitous inuence, including the Caribbean. The Caribbean in the late '70s and early '80s was a hotbed of musical activity and this compilation focuses on the best disco-inuenced tracks from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, and the Bahamas. All of the tracks here were o-cially licensed and reissued for the first time ever. Highlights of the 13 tracks included on this compilation are: the under-the-radar cosmic disco tune "Got To Have You" by Joanne Wilson, a rare P&P Records-inuenced track "Dance With Me" by Odessey One, the icy cool synth-trenched "Living On A String" by Wild Fire, the incredible dance floor-friendly "Instant Funk" by Merchant, and the disco reggae cover of "Rapper's Delight" by Prince Blackman. This compilation was compiled and researched by Deano Sounds and includes edits by Al Kent, the Whiskey Barons, and Waxist Selecta.

A1. First up we have some intergalactic business with this cosmic jazz funk disco stormer, hypnotic beats, classic vocoder vocal with sweet female backing, dreamy keys, sweeping synths with a bit of slap bass thrown in, definitely MadDisco's summer space tune of 2014 and pressed at 45rpm for extra loudness.
B1. Continuing with the cosmic theme we have a serious bit of vocoder disco boogie from Japan, tripped out effects galore, panning hit hats and a 70's bass line to die for.
B2. And last but definitely not least we have this gem also from Japan, chilled jazz funk groove of the highest order, some amazing musicians on this one, crisp production as well, just listening to this makes you cooler!!!

Following the appetizer of the two 12" singles "Trinidad (Disco Mix)" (EM1128TEP) and "J'Ouvert" (EM1129TEP), we now serve up the main dish, the fine 1977 album Steel Funk by John Gibbs and the Unlimited Sound of Steel Orchestra, a new addition to our 'EM Steel Pan Series'.
Trinidadian steel-pan player John A. Gibbs studied science at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica where he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees and formed The Jamaica All Stars Steel Band. This was the start of a dual career in science and music that eventually took him to the United States.
He moved to Philadelphia in the mid-70s and met Philly arranger/producer Louis A. deLise, with whom he collaborated to create a new steel pan music, welding Trinidadian steel music to Philly soul. He researched and advocated a new style of steel pan music, describing the steel pan as an 'omnivibraphone' in his 1978 book The Unit Steel Band, in which he combined his scientific and musical backgrounds to illuminate the physics of the steel pan.
Gibbs' innate musicality comes to the fore on Steel Funk, where he compiles several years of experience with deLise into an appealing Trini-Philly groove union, with the five steel pan players of the Unlimited Sound of Steel Orchestra working in sync with a 30-piece studio orchestra of brass, strings and rhythm. The songs range from Calypso to film theme to pop standard, covers and originals, but Steel Funk is not a chintzy pastiche, it's a glorious unity. We offer this re-release as 'the 2014 version', newly remastered, with improved sound quality, a different track order and new cover art drawn by Yoshihiro Tsuyama/2Yang.

Awesome sounding remastered re-issue of this super-rare underground disco belter from Crosstown Traffic. Originally released in 1979 on tiny Philadelphia label D.C. Records, this highly collectable 12' still gets plenty of playtime today from DJs such as Dmitri and Al Kent. On the A-side 'Party People' slams you hard with funky basslines, furious disco beats, heady 70s synths and a whole load of party lyrics. Truly infectious! Then grooving sideways into your life is the B side's 'Love Your Family'. Yet another disco gem, this tune is mellower yet will still have you running to the dancefloor with its first-class bass guitar riff, deeply-disco tambourines and hand-claps. Great stuff!

**Second press** For the first release on Austin Boogie Crew Records, the label presents a heavy instrumental two-sider from Austin's own Solar Shield. Well recommeended!!!
'Reesis' is an electronic boogie-funk banger. "Beeturia" is equal parts beach boogie and jazz-fusion, propelled by the virtuosic soloing of Solar Shield producer Chris McDowell.
