Aggressive Blackened Death Metal with hooks and technical finesse that invokes the Ancient Gods! Aurora Borealis has been around for years (going back to as far as 1994! and it has mostly self-released their albums. Underground fanatics might remember the band reaching out to promote its music on forums back in the day and tracking its progress, each album was a large improvement over the earlier ones. And through time Aurora Borealis had great drummers ranked in its line-ups: Tony Laureano, Derek Roddy and Tim Yeung, which indicates the quality and level we talk about here. Aurora Borealis plays Black/Death Metal, remaining gritty not unlike Angelcorpse, but being more dynamic comparatively. It has got unique themes and the album artworks represent that. As the band name suggests, they are indicative of the Aurora Borealis phenomenon although the band has progressed to involve sci-fi imagery not far removed from Nocturnus, where artworks are concerned. Musically, the band remains true to its original Black/Death sound but it’s doing it with far more potential and competency than the others. The band’s definitely got a solid US death metal sense, it is not flirting too much with the European style of melody-infused death metal as it may appear. One will be surprised to find it so hard-hitting and gravelly and yet be rife with some of the most driven and enthusiastic activity. It is not solely focused on being technical (which in a way it is) but it is varied and it is catchy. Floridian Death Metal bands have much in common with the way Aurora Borealis structures its songs and there is the ever-present Morbid Angel influence, infected with some early Malevolent Creation rabidity. This is what makes death metal so good, few could contest with that. It’s got Death Metal in its genes, but Aurora Borealis takes the vitriol from Black Metal especially in the vocal department and gives the music an edge that is hard to miss. Here there is that special spice, that sizzling quality that comes from the rasps, adding a certain Thrashiness to it as well. The hooks make this album special, because writing good songs can be safely left in the hands of founding member Ron Vento.

AUSTERE sind wieder da. Die Australier kehren mit ihrem dritten Album zurück - und sie sind ebenso lakonisch und bodenständig wie zuvor. Die neuen Tracks auf "Corrosion of Hearts" stehen auf dem gleichen soliden Black Metal Fundament wie zu dem Zeitpunkt, als die Band nach der Veröffentlichung des zweiten Langspielers "To Lay Like Old Ashes" im Jahr 2009 in einen langen Winterschlaf ging, Die vielschichtigen, rauen und oft sogar verträumten Gitarrengewebe von Mitchell Keepin werden durch das gefühlvolle Schlagzeugspiel von Tim Yatras perfekt ergänzt. Letzterer steuert auch Keyboard-Tüpfel und cineastische Klanglandschaften bei. Die Australier komponieren weiterhin mäandernde, fließende musikalische Gedankenströme von meist epischem Ausmaß. Auf "Corrosion of Hearts" entwickelt sich AUSTEREs Stil zu einer reifen und klar definierten Ausdrucksform weiter. Dies ist keine große Überraschung, da beide Musiker während ihrer Auszeit von der Band anderweitig musikalisch aktiv waren und so ihren Horizont erweitern konnten. Das Duo hat sich gleichwohl mehr Zeit genommen, um die neuen Songs so zu gestalten, bis sie ihrer Klangabsicht exakt entsprechen. Die größere Erfahrung bringt auch mehr Entschlossenheit mit sich. AUSTERE entstanden aus einem bestehenden Soloprojekt des Multiinstrumentalisten und Sängers "Desolate" alias Mitchell Keepin, der im Jahr 2005 auf den Schlagzeuger, Keyboarder und Sänger "Sorrow" aka Tim Yatras traf. Obwohl sich die Australier schnell eine ebenso treue wie beachtliche Fangemeinde erspielen konnten, beschlossen AUSTERE, eine längere Pause einzulegen, bevor sie im Jahr 2021 ihre Aktivitäten wieder aufnahmen. Als erstes Zeichen ihrer Wiedergeburt veröffentlichte die Band eine Zusammenstellung ihres früheren Materials, das als Artbook-Edition unter dem Titel "Towards the Great Unknown" bei Lupus Lounge erschienen ist. Mit neu entfachter Leidenschaft und einer klaren Vision kehren AUSTERE nun mit ihrem längst sehnsüchtig erwarteten dritten Album "Corrosion of Hearts" zurück. Voller Schönheit, Stolz und Dunkelheit zieht ein mächtiger schwarzer Sturm aus Down Under herauf.

AUTARKH (Ex-DODECAHEDRON, EXIVIOUS) sind ein Perpetuum mobile. Schon ihr Debüt klang wie eine Botschaft aus der Zukunft, aber ihr zweites Album verkörpert wirklich, was es heißt, im digitalen Zeitalter zu leben. "Emergent" verbindet die Intensität des modernen Metals mit düsterem Industrial-Drone und ätherischem, klingendem Post-Rock - und das alles in einem einzigen Song. In "Strife" befinden sich die Sänger Michel Nienhuis und David Luiten in einem Kampf mit inneren Dämonen, deren seelische Qualen durch tausend Megawatt industrieller Riffs verstärkt werden, bevor sie durch ein Lichtloch entkommen. Nur wenige Bands haben etwas so Innovatives geschaffen.

"Abhorrent Abomination', der Name des Debüt-Openers der Deather Autophagy, bedeutet frei übersetzt "abscheuliche Abscheulichkeit". Ein ziemlich zutreffender Begriff für ihre Musik, doch rein im positiven Sinne. Die Growls von Andy Swarthout sind stets etwas im Hintergrund verankert und sorgen somit für eine etwas surreale Atmosphäre. Die Gitarristen Justin Yaquinto und Kevin Miller hauen neben Doom-angehauchten Düster-Riffs auch ziemlich groovige, fast schon an Pantera erinnerte Rhythmen raus ('Beneath The Moss, Between The Roots'). Auf einer Spielzeit von rund 33 Minuten kommt daher wenig Langeweile auf. Im Titel-Track entscheiden sich die Herren aus dem amerikanischen Oregon für ein langsam schlürfendes Outro, welches durch seine Behäbigkeit an Brutalität gewinnt - die Kirsche auf der Torte sind die Slayer-Soli gen Ende des Songs. Die runde und kraftvolle Produktion von Billy Anderson (unter anderem Sleep, Neurosis, Eyehategod) sorgt für ein angenehm deftiges Sound-Erlebnis..." (Metal Hammer)

Cutler, Danny Coralles & Joe Trevisano, Autopsy once more delivered a rancid
concoction of slow brooding doom & high- octane metal madness injected with
twisted solos & an overdose of vocal insanity. As a nod to their origins for this
release, Autopsy also included a cover version of € Fuck You!!!', originally by West
Oakland 80's outfit, Bloodbath (the former band of Danny Coralles). Bloodbath
was an influential act in the lead up to the formation & early years, of Autopsy &
so it was ideal to include a rendition of this rarely ever heard track on Puncturing

Nachdem die dänische Melodic-Death/Thrash-Metal-Band AVARICE in den örtlichen Clubs Feuer und Flamme war, ist sie nun endlich bereit, ihr mit Spannung erwartetes selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum im Jahr 2023 zu veröffentlichen. Das Album enthält zehn knallharte Tracks, die sich um die mythologischen Geschichten der Antike über Bestrafung und extreme Gier drehen - daher der Band- und Albumname "Avarice". Für die Aufnahme und Produktion des Albums hat sich die Band mit dem erfolgreichen dänischen Produzenten Chris Kreutzfeldt (CABAL, Ghost Iris und Møl - um nur einige zu nennen) zusammengetan. Avarice wurde 2007 von ein paar Teenagern gegründet, im selben Jahr, in dem das Kollektiv auch den Aarhus Metal Contest gewann und Shows und Festivals mit Bands wie Kreator, Soilwork, Volbeat, Mnemic, Dawn of Demise und Mercenary spielte. Featuring the duo of Kristian Valbo & Christoffer Brathen - known for their work
with such acts as Aura Noir, Obliteration & Condor - their debut album, 'The
Satanic Inversion of....', is a grim & revelatory offering. Primitive in a way that
captures the early magic of Kolbotn's metal kings, Darkthrone, as well as the stark
chaos of early-era Bathory along with their very own distinguishable stamp on the
genre, 'The Satanic Inversion of....' is a masterclass of real Black Metal feeling,
wrapped up in a hypnotic frenzy of ice-cold riffing.
Though both members had played in bands covering different genres since their
early teenage years, Black Metal had always been one of the most important as a
vehicle for an honesty & fierceness that resonated deeply within the duo, without
the need for extravagant clothing or pretentious concepts. And so Avmakt itself
was born as the vessel for channelling this stripped-down raw feeling.
Formed in 2020 & with their one & only demo release gaining traction in the
underground, the Norwegians quickly came to the attention of Darkthrone's Fenriz
& Peaceville Records & Avmakt was swiftly included on Peaceville's Black Metal
Compilation, 'Dark Side Of The Sacred Star' which launched at the end of 2022.
Avmakt itself means "powerlessness", the sense of being overwhelmed & not
able to have any influence - without choice, voice, or hope. And so, it is from far
down in this psychological abyss that Avmakt's ideas & expressions manifest
with the completion of their debut studio release; 6 sprawling epic tracks
recorded with the assistance of Arild Torp, also of Obliteration & encapsulating
such themes as emptiness, desolation & alienation in a powerful display of
sinister, uninhibited Black Metal.

Three years after their debut, French Azken Auzi return with Infernua, a dark and powerful journey into the depths of occult doom and sludge. Forged through years of live activity and creative evolution, the album reveals a band that has fully embraced its identity, delivering heavier riffs, deeper atmospheres and a more mature songwriting approach. Crushing grooves meet haunting passages as Azken Auzi explore the darkest corners of the human soul, balancing oppressive heaviness with moments of eerie tension and hypnotic flow. Last year BABYMETAL concluded their 10-year journey culminating in the celebration of the formation of the revered Japanese metal band with the vinyl release of their retrospective album 10 BABYMETAL Years. Later they released a cryptic video that announced BABYMETAL will be "sealed" from the world until further notice. Today, BABYMETAL break the seal, making their return to Earth. Their official website has revealed a LEGEND MAP depicting all of BABYMETAL"s future activities, including the news that BABYMETAL"s first concept album THE OTHER ONE will be released worldwide on Friday, March 24th, 2023. The concept album reveals the other side of the BABYMETAL story that until now remains untold. A total of 10 songs have been discovered within THE OTHER ONE restoration project, with each song representing a unique theme based on 10 separate parallel worlds that they have discovered. Full length audio of each of the 10 songs will finally be revealed when fans get their hands on the album next March. Leading up to the concept album"s release, five pre-release digital singles will be available worldwide for download and streaming, each respectively scheduled to release in October 22, November 22, January, February 23, and March 23.
