I really love to review music that does not take an entirely definable direction but switches in between related genres and sometimes even styles that are based upon each other. This album can be put in the field of so called 'library music', sound records made for use in movies and TV productions, commercials and for similar purposes to enhance the tension of the atmosphere in very dramatic scenes or accompany the more mellow and relaxed moments with lush harmony carpets. And from all these 'library' albums, this is one of the most sought after by collectors around the world due to the musical quality of its content. And so we sit back, relax, close our eyes and get ready for the movie that only exists in our imagination. The STRINGTRONICS take us on a journey from the dark city gorges of any North American metropolis where steaming hot funky and jazzy rhythms amalgamate and get clothed in a veil of lush string arrangements to the banks of the river Seine where painters draw portraits of tourists and people sit in the sun and relax to the typical chanson melodies full of melancholy but also joy of life. In there is a tinge of the 1950 exotica music showing up here and there through Latin grooves and some flimsy elements of rock shine through the whole soundscape as well. It is fantastic but not easy to categorize, could appeal to fans of US movie soundtracks from the early 70s and late 60s, created by folks like George Clinton but also be loved by people who enjoy the early works of electronic pop pioneers such as Walter Carlos and finally by space age pop aficionados. It is all in there and the reference of some artists drawing or painting is not far from what the music feels like. The participating musicians paint their melody - and rhythm patterns with an enormous feeling for depth and emotion. A masterpiece!

* Since the legendary shows at The Jazz Café, the sound of London Elektricity has always effortlessly lent itself to a live setting. Today is no different as we present two loungecore classics with band-driven twists by Gentleman's Dub Club and KYX Orchestra.

* Stripping back the drums and serving up the bass is Gentleman's Dub Club with their dancehall re-rub of 'All Hell is Breaking Loose'. Springing from the roots of Leeds, Gentleman's Dub Club have been making reggae and ska shakers get on their feet with their huge Reggae anthem High Grade. This version of 'All Hell is Breaking Loose' is already a firm favourite for the summer sets of Sir David Rodigan and undoubtedly set to shine throughout the festival circuits.

* On the flip side, originally opening the seminal 'Power Ballads' LP of '05, London Elektricity's 'Out of this World' has been reborn with a flavour of big band jazz from Prague's KYX Orchestra. This is a virtuoso cover in the style of Whiplash minus the psychotic bandleader. Well we haven't actually met KYX's bandleader but we're hoping he's a bit more chilled.

Over the years Alan Licht (USA) and Tetuzi Akiyama (Japan) have individually explored the lines that divide improvisation, composition, folk, blues and experimental music. It was inevitable their careers and styles would cross paths. Tomorrow Outside Tomorrow captures a meeting of minds and techniques landing two extended works which blur genre and cliche.

Blues Deceiver presents itself as a dank blues: a dirty crawling mass of feedback, fluctuating vibrations, garage frequencies and distant interference. Featuring Oren Ambarchi the various musical and nonmusical elements weave about creating a music showcasing individual contributions hovering as a holistic whole. There is beauty in this beast.

Tomorrow Outside Tomorrow features the talents of Rob Mazurek in the guest role. Here the trio expand on the workshop blues drone with Rob placing a sombre jazz card on the table. What begins as a loose sound study evolves into an introverted and melancholic exploration of mood, atmosphere, interwoven notes, texture, sound, guitar and electronics.

Spanning from their humble beginnings way back in 1987 to the height of their popularity in 1993, from Olympia college radio to the stage of SNL, this collection showcases some of Nirvana's greatest live performances of all-time. Essential.

Miles Davis' 1974 album Get Up With It is a collection of tracks recorded between 1970 and 1974. Released as a double LP, it was Davis' last studio album before five years of retirement from music.

'He Loved Him Madly' was recorded by Davis as his tribute to then- recently deceased Duke Ellington, who used to tell his audiences 'I love you madly'. English musician Brian Eno cited it as a lasting influence on his own work.

This album is an essential. An overlooked classic of Psychedelic
Soul, representing the best of Miles Davis' experiments in the fusion of Rock, Funk, Electronica and Jazz.

Originally released in 1964, My Name Is Albert Ayler, is the debut album from legendary free-jazz saxophonist Albert Ayler. Recorded in Copenhagen with a Scandinavian rhythm section this album sets the stage for the sheer brilliance that was to come. Although the backing band plays fairly straight ahead bop and feels out of place at times, it doesn't detract from the program as a whole, as Ayler's singular sound shines through. This is especially true on the absolutely stunning version of "Summertime". An essential piece of the Albert Ayler puzzle, one of the most unique jazz musicians of the 20th century.

Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus is the bassist and composer Charles Mingus' legendary experiment in a large group setting. Featuring an 11 piece group with new arrangements on some of his most well known compositions, this album is one of Mingus' most timeless and influential releases. Originally released in 1964, Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus is an essential title from one of jazz's most enduring figures.

Following a six-year absence from music while he rebuilt his health, Miles Davis erupted back onto the live scene in 1981 with a new, young band comprising Bill Evans (sax, flute), Mike Stern (guitar), Marcus Miller (bass), Al Foster (drums) and Mino Cinelu (percussion). This incendiary set was taped in Japan for FM radio broadcast, and is presented here with background notes and images.

Herman Poole Blount, better known to the world as Sun Ra, lived more musical lives in his 79 years on this planet (and others) than seems possible. In the 30s he was the most rigorous bandleader in Birmingham, heading the Sonny Blount Orchestra and filling every waking moment with music or philosophical discussions, by the 40s he had moved to Chicago and performed with luminaries such as Wynonie Harris, Fletcher Henderson, and Coleman Hawkins. By the 50s he had changed his name to Sun Ra and began performing with longtime Arkestra bandmates John Gilmore and Marshall Allen. Ra started his own label, El Saturn (or Saturn), to release his own recordings as well as those featuring the Arkestra backing local R&B and doo-wop groups. Though the genres showcased here are more pop than the world has come to expect from Sun Ra, the vibe and feel is purely cosmic, producing some of the wildest, strangest R&B ever created on this side of the sun. Essential early Sun Ra performances and productions.

A selection of tracks from some of Jean-Luc Godard's earliest and most memorable films including À bout de souffle (Breathless), Une femme est une femme (A Woman Is A Woman), Vivre sa vie (To Live One's Life), Le Mépris (Contempt). With works from the legendary composers Martial Solal, Michel Legrand, and Georges Delerue, this is an essential collection of music from the films of one of the most important directors of the French New Wave.

DIPLOMATS OF SOUL return with a new singe revisiting two classic jazz funk tracks back to back. 'Sweet Power Your Embrace' was originally written and recorded by James Mason, the signature track from his iconic album 'Rhythm of Life' released in 1977. Diplomats of Soul take the track back into the studio with the musicians of INCOGNITO, the production skills of BLUEY and guest vocals of VANESSA HAYNES and give it a makeover of epic proportions.
On the flipside comes 'Mi Sabrina Tequana' recorded in Asia where Diplomats Of Soul have worked as DJs since 2006. The original was recorded and released by Ingram, also in 1977. The 2015 version released here is an impressive alternative further showing the Diplomats Of Soul commitment to breathing new life into classic tracks alongside original creations ahead of a debut album.

We have released several of Brazilian jazz legend Dom Salvador's records on Mr Bongo. He worked with artists including as Elis Regina, Jorge Ben and Edu Lobo and led Salvador Trio, as well as releasing under his own name. Dom lives in New York and plays a Hotel piano bar daily.'Barumba' is an uptempo funk-jazz monster with heavy drums and piano right from the off. Soaring horns add to the drama.Originally released on his self titled LP on CBS Brazil in 1974.

'Morre o burro, Fica o Homem' is the third Osmar Milito track to feature in our Brazil 45's series. A classic samba-rock track; funk drums fills and punchy horns underpin the MPB vocals, building in tempo slightly over the track. The song was originally written by Jorge Ben.Taken from his expensive and hard to find 'Nem Paletó, Nem Gravata' LP released on ATCO Brazil in 1973.r

This is the second 45RPM single release from Praise Poems 3, and what a monster it is. Although both songs are not necessarily new discoveries in the soul and jazz collectors world, it is the first official re-release of these two 1975 recordings. Hopefully the record buyers appreciate the work which was necessary to accomplish this mission of doing a legitimate re-issue. Mr. Cunningham and his music definitely deserves it.

Comprised of three brothers - Ahmad, Kareem, and Yussef Dayes - alongside close friend Wayne Francis II, the group prescribes to the mantra, "Out of many must come one." Over the course of two EPs and a full-length album previously released independently, they have worked tirelessly to channel their ideas into soundscapes enriched with beauty and meaning. While their early material was developed by busking and each song created separately, on The Myth Of The Golden Ratio they fused the process for writing and recording according to Kareem Dayes. Citing access to more instruments in the studio, the band has felt even more creative freedom to enhance their sound. The bulk of the album was written over six months, while two older tracks ("Far Far Away" and "Grow") were treated with new arrangements for this project.

In listening to their Ubiquity debut, their passion for creation is clearly felt and heard. That same love has been admired by audiences and critics alike for their live performances. While many acts perform for or to their audiences, United Vibrations relishes in their ability to perform among and with theirs. In fact, they consider the crowd the most integral part of the experience, with the energy becoming cyclical - the crowd feeding the musicians feeding the crowd. Oftentimes they utilize call-and-response to elicit participation that helps to create and maintain a musical and divine space. People from different life experiences and demographics have become a united force through this creative space at festivals and concerts across the UK and Europe.

Mit seinen Beiträgen zu Mark Turners Album Lathe of Heaven hat Avishai Cohen 2014 viele Hörer beeindruckt. Nun legt der in Tel Aviv geborene Trompeter sein ECM-Debüt als Leader vor - mit impressionistischen Kompositionen für Jazzquartett, das in einigen Stücken um Tenorsaxophon erweitert wird. Into The Silence ist dem Gedenken an Avishais Vater David gewidmet und reflektiert die letzten Tage in dessen Leben. Cohens gedämpfte Trompete gibt der Musik die emotionale Prägung. Der israelische Pianist Yonathan Avishai leuchtet Cohens Kompositionen mit bluesigen Phrasierungen aus. This release is a compilation of the finest moments from Domingo Cura's four solo albums released during the period 1971 to 1977, featuring Cura's propulsive mastery of the traditional bombo drum as well as other percussion instruments. The music ranges from DJ-friendly percussion workouts to piano-dappled rhythmic fantasias, Afro-Latin sax grooves to pieces with a more typically "South American" feel, featuring guitars and flutes.
Despite tremendous political upheaval, Argentina in the 1960s and 1970s witnessed a remarkable musical flowering in which traditional "folklore" styles were embraced and updated by a new generation of musicians who fused traditional Argentinian rhythms and musical forms with elements of rock, soul, funk and jazz. Percussionist Domingo Cura was at the center of these exciting musical developments

Following the releases of Pharoah Sanders and Chet Baker Dopeness Galore recovered recordings from George Adams. All tracks were originally released on Timeless Records in the 1970's and 1980's. They showcase the love for contrast prominent in the Adams/Pullen quartet and a synergy and energy between the members that just can't beat.

The songs clearly demonstrate Adams' dramatic way of playing the saxophone. Skillfully gliding along his instrument, blowing out from the lowest to the highest tune in one breath. On the grand piano Don Pullen now and then makes use of the highest octaves in a haunting way, almost like he's
using his knuckles instead of his fingertips. The drive drummer Danny Richmond brings to the plate result in tight rhythmic sessions. All the while bassist Cameron Brown wields his way through the songs, easily picking along in high gear.

Take note of the care taken of the album sleeve for the release. The artwork was done by Belgian artist Alex Deforce and the in depth liner-notes were written by Dutch flutist Han Litz.

'A deeply focused, spiritual journey guided by the late George Adams': George Adams - 'Finest

Am 29.01.2016 erscheint "The Ashen Tang" in einer neuen Version via 37 Adventures, die drei neue Tracks enthalten wird: "Ophelia", "Love Is A Lonely Town" und "Don't Wanna Lose You". Funk, Soul, R&B und Pop - eine Mischung, die Royce Wood Junior gekonnt auf seinem Album zu verbinden weiß.

After the path-setting METHOD OF DEFIANCE album INAMORATA where he brought together cutting-edge drum&bass producers (Paradox, Enduser, Submerged, Black Sun Empire a.o.) and avantgarde / jazz masters such as John Zorn, Craig Taborn, Herbie Hancock or Toshinori Kondo the visionary, versatile pioneer LASWELL picked out some of his combatants for an audacious follow-up. Young finnish FANU's syncopated rhythms and sharp breaks prove him the Art Blakey of drum&bass, his feverish beats are an ideal playground for Laswell's growling, hard-driven yet funky bass attacks. NowJazz trumpet players NILS PETTER MOLVAER and GRAHAM HAYNES accentuate the album's psychotic heat, while P-funk keyboard wizard BERNIE WORRELL takes care this meeting of musical masters called LOGDE is a solid weapon for the dance floor!

All titles and the ancient alchemist signs of the excellent artwork by John Brown refer to the fraternal organisations of freemasonry and their lodges.

Dolly Parton had a number of hits in the late '60s as Porter Wagoner's duet partner, yet solo success eluded her until her 1971 album Coat Of Many Colors. The title track was
a Top Ten single, and it effectively became her signature song, largely because it was a sweetly autobiographical tune about Dolly's childhood.

That song, along with its two hit predecessors, 'Traveling Man' and 'My Blue Tears,' were evidence that Parton was a strong songwriter, but the full album reveals the true depth of her talents. She wrote seven of the ten songs (Wagoner wrote the other three), none of which is filler.

A remarkably consistent album, in terms of songwriting and performances, but also remarkably diverse, revealing that Dolly can handle ballads, Country-Rockers, tearjerkers,
and Country-Pop with equal aplomb.

Holy Forest is the brainchild of musician and filmmaker Jon Fine (Herbie Hancock's "Possibilities"/ Bill Wither's "Still Bill"). Wearing a number of hats on this record as producer, instrumentalist and songwriter, Fine enlisted friends and collaborators to play on a genre-blending project which includes members of Antibalas, singer's Morley Kamen, Seraphim, Sparlha Swa, Ed 'Preachermann' Holley, Gambian griot Tata Din Din Jobarteh (aka the Jimi Hendrix of the Kora) and Grammy nominated Kora master Youssoupha Sidibe.



The recording sessions, spanning 3 years were inspired by a trip to the Gambia's Makasutu forest, a lush green riverine wilderness of mangrove swamps. The 11 track self-titled debut album 'Holy Forest' was recorded in Gambia, New York, Woodstock and San Francisco.

After the release of his debut album in June 2015, Le Millipede is back with a 7" single with "Neue Welt" and "Lenity".

The newcomer to the A-Z of instruments of Le Millipede is the clarinet. Together with Le Millipede's characteristic percussion, it sets the basic structure of "Neue Welt". Two melodies of piano and bass trumpet join in to a euphoric, dreamy tune, only to be shaken up profoundly - or should we say challenged - by the second debuting instrument, a ukulele.

Lenity is melancholic and brisk, hymnic and susurrant, heartfelt and effusive, intimate, lush, sad and exuberant, passionate and serene. Or maybe just gentle and playful.

Das britische Sam Crockatt Quartet formte sich 2002 in London. Es ist Mitglied des Loop Collective und
besteht aus vier ungemein kreativen jungen Jazzmusikern: dem Tenorsaxofonisten, Bandleader und
gefragten Improvisationskünstler Sam Crockatt, Kit Downes am Piano, dem Kontrabassisten Oli Hayhurst und
James Maddren an den Drums. 2009 veröffentlichte die Band ihr Debütalbum. "Howeird" heimste mit seinem
sehr lyrischen und manchmal auch sehr freien, jedoch immer melodiösen Sound exzellente Kritiken ein und
gewann den heimischen Parliamentary Jazz Award. Rund sechs Jahre später erscheint dessen Nachfolger
"Mells Bells" beim Label Whirlwind. Er bietet acht Originalkompositionen. Obwohl im Studio aufgenommen,
transportieren sie genau die Energie und Unmittelbarkeit, die das Quartett ansonsten live in Szene setzt.
Betrachtet man die Aufnahmebedingungen, überrascht das nicht, denn alle Stücke wurden an einem einzigen
Tag eingespielt. Dieser hatte sich zwischen verschiedenen Konzertabenden als naheliegender Studiotag
angeboten. So einfach geht das. "Mells Bells" verschmilzt in einem kühnen Schwung aus der Situation heraus
geborene Ideen mit bereits seit längerem bestehenden Motiven zu einem vitalen, aber dabei in jeder
Sekunde in sich ruhenden Ganzen. Das macht "Mells Bells" zu einem elaborierten Highlight der aktuellen
britischen Jazzszene.

UNIVERS ZERO's 1977 debut album masterpiece re-released as 2LP set + bonus track.

Longstanding Belgian chamber rockers and avant-garde pioneers led by drummer/composer Daniel Denis, Univers Zero was formed in 1974 with co-composer and guitarist Roger Trigaux (who left the band in 1980). This is their first album recorded between the 2nd and the 5th of August 1977.

"The rhythmic energy and dissonant riffs, the distinctive sound of the bassoon and strings, and the tricky, fragmented time signatures make for a challenging and highly distinctive listening experience." (ALLMUSIC)
