Everybody Digs Bill Evans was Evans's second album, done two years after his first record as a leader. Though his producer (Orrin Keepnews) had wanted Evans to record a follow-up album to his debut sooner, the self-critical Evans felt he had "nothing new to say" before this album.
The recording captures Evans at a time when he frequently played extended musical ideas using block chords, a technique also favored by Milt Buckner, George Shearing, Oscar Peterson, and other jazz pianists. That combined with his use of pedals gave him a sound considered by critics to be innovative. Though Evans had quit the Miles Davis band a month before the album was recorded, Davis was enamored of Evans's piano sound as it was developing through 1958, and decided to use him as the pianist for four of the five tracks on the 1959 recording Kind of Blue.

Probably the most influential avant-garde musician in the world, Ornette Coleman has been a leading force in jazz since his startling debut in the late '50s, Coleman's emotive alto saxophone style relies on melodic improvisation unbound by chord changes. This style (and philosophy) was dubbed by Ornette "harmelodics" and reached its peak in a small combo whose virtuoso playing had the power of the blues and the multi-rhythmic sophistication of Monk, Mingus, or Coltrane.
The landmark series of albums Coleman released in the late '50s and early '60s still define the shape of jazz to come. This 10-LP deluxe box set showcases the "free jazz" pioneer's most seminal sides, featuring his entire recorded output for Atlantic Records from 1959 to 1962.

Sophie Hunger Returns With Her Brand New Album 'molecules'.

'Ancient Lights' is the debut album from Uniting of Opposites, the new musical venture from Tim Liken, Clem Alford and Ben Hazleton, bringing to life a melting pot of cultures and inspiration, using new technology
as an opportunity to explore and merge aspects of jazz, electronica and traditional Indian musical styles. The band was established when, within the myriad forms of jazz, Hazleton met Alford and begun studying the classical Indian tradition in order to open
(his) ears to new melodic and rhythmic possibilities'. As a lover of all types and styles of music, Liken's involvement fused together their collective musical journeys, creating Uniting of Opposites.
Coming from a DJ/producer background, Tim Liken started making music in 1995, setting up one of the UK's original garage labels, Ice Cream Records, later spawning the monikers Double 99 and Tim Deluxe. Clem Alford's musical
journey began when he purchased a sitar and a Jayasri Banerjee record before hitch-hiking to India in 1968 to be taught sitar by Pandit Sachindra Nath Saha (Banerjee's father). Over the past five decades Alford has recorded for EMI
and collaborated with western musicians and pop groups to film composers, including Amancio D'Silva, John Williams, John Mayer, John Dankworth and Hemmant Kunar. Having been named 'Young Jazz Musician of the Year' in 2003, Ben Hazleton
is predominantly a jazz double bass player and has played with many of the British Jazz greats, performing regularly with The Tony Kofi Quartet and The Jonathan Gee Quartet. Named after the 'Ancient Lights' English property law,
that gives home owners the right to receive natural light, the LP brings together creative musical forces, colliding to continuously redefine the music itself and express a fluidity that's found at the heart of Uniting of Opposites' ethos.
Bespoke artwork comes from acclaimed Japanese artist Tokio Ayoama.

On a trip to Cuba in 1996, Barney McAll was invited to a ceremony in honour of the Yoruba goddess Yemaya. The experience drew McAll, one of Australia's leading jazz pianists who had moved to New York to join Gary Bartz' band, to delve deeper into Cuban music and culture.
Originally released as a CD on the Jazzhead label in 2006, beside Hermeto Pascoal, Paul Grabowsky and many more, 'Mother of Dreams and Secrets' is a continuation of Barney's innovative exploration of sacred Afro-Cuban rhythms that has stood the test of time.
The album was recorded at Egrem Studios in Havana with some of Cuba's finest percussionists and musicians, alongside New York-based American and Australian players, including the likes of Kurt Rosenwinkel and Billy Harper.
Available for the first time on vinyl, spread over a double LP for optimum sound quality, and including a digital download.

Jimi Tenor's mind will travel where his body can't go. Living in isolation in east-Helsinki suburb he picks mushrooms and has exotic musical fantasiesin the calmness of the endless. He has made a quantum connection in Berlin with rhythm geniouses Ekow Alabi Savage and Max Weissenfeldt to create his latest tour de force "Order of Nothingness".
Mind travel is easy and music is a perfect way to illustate the possibilities. Using historical failed experimental keyboard Extravoice from Hammond organ company has opened the floodgates of Jimi's creative passages. Philophon studios in Berlin has a plethora of exotic instruments and they have been extensively used in making this album. JIMI likes to switch between wind instruments and keyboards to get a creative edge.

Her Majesty's Ship is proud to present 'This Never Happened', the latest album from hugely talented French-American singer and producer Yan Wagner.
This always inventive and off kilter artist has had many top releases on labels like Kitsune and has worked with the likes of the legendary Arnaud Rebotini and Etienne Daho. He also has a side project, The Populists, is producing the first album of Calypso Valois and wrote the soundtrack for the short film 'Victoria' by Mathilde Marc. Someone who plays events like SXSW and Montreux Jazz Festival, Wagner's playful disco-pop tunes always find their way into the emotions of those who hear them.
For his second album, the artist wondered what to do: surprise everyone with a selection of ballads or serve up the electronic sounds that defined his last effort Forty Eight Hours. The answer lies somewhere in between, with covers of Frank Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood mixed in with fresh and catchy disco production. Unlike the last record produced by Arnaud Rebotini, this record is producer by Yan himself with a triple objective: to favour the first takes, the heat of the sound and to reduce the post- production to a minimum. It makes for something authentic and real, and is an album of artistic self-questioning, tenacious dreaming and overcoming doubt.
Says the artist, "The songs on this record are a series of lies; views of the mind. 'This Never Happened' is a collection of stories that never happened. Ten tracks talking of vain loves, of nocturnal experiences and of life and truth, which are all so short.'
Starting with the retro synths and shiny arpeggios of the title track, ensuing cuts like 'Blacker' are real chuggers with almost de-humanised vocals over the robot beats. 'SlamDunk Cha-Cha' is descended from Bowie with its camp synth wiggles and sung- spoken vocals. Switching up the tempo, slower tracks like 'Grenades' are perfectly glowing and frazzled with their pixelated melodies and cold chords. More upbeat affairs like 'No Love' are like lighter and cheerier versions of Depeche Mode, and the Sinatra cover 'It Was A Very Good Year' is a stirring, synth heavy version that is every bit as tender as the original.
This is a fantastic album of timeless electronic songs and is sure to be one of the standout releases of the year.

The Gulls remix is also a very nice easy listening house sound... A side opens with Dabora Hip Hop Techn oremix... full surprise ! Karoni Foli is probably the most modern track here, exploring the roots of bass Music in a very african sound design. This record is a pearl ! Don't miss!

This splendid catalan Jazz LP was originally released on Edigsa in 1968 and sees its first ever vinyl reissue here. Barcelona has always had a boiling jazz scene, and since the 1960s a strong focal point of the city jazzmen has been the Jamboree Club, in the centric Plaça Reial. The Jamboree was a regular point for al American artists doing the European jazz circuit, as it was for all European acts and, of course for the local talent. Among these, a young quartet formed by alto sax & flute player Ricard Roda, pianist Ricard Miralles, bassist Enric Ponsa and drummer Joan-Josep Tudurí became regular on the club's night gigs. The four musicians were experienced jazzmen in the Barcelona circuit, having already played in several outfits and accompanied several soloists when they gathered together for this experience. Ricard Roda had a vast experience in the local jazz scene, having started when he was only seventeen in the Crazy Boys orchestra in 1948. He was also a close friend of Tete Montoliu since they studied together in Barcelonas Conservatorium. In the seventies he was a member of the Orquesta Mirasol Colores, pioneers of jazz rock fussion in Barcelona, and he also played with musicians outside the jazz scene like Joan Manuel Serrat or Xavier Cugat, and even with Liza Minelli. Ricard Miralles was the son of trumpetist and conductor Jaime Miralles, he often attended and played at the Kit Kat Club jam sessions in the early sixties, where he met with bassist Manuel Elías. They both debuted as proffessionals accompaining "Pocholo" and became regulars in the city's jazz circuit. Miralles became a composer and arranger and worked with musicians like Francesc Pi de la Serra or Joan Manuel Serrat. Enric Ponsa was one of the most in demand local bassists, and Joan-Josep Tudurí was the youngest talent of the pack.
They were approached by Edigsa to record one of the most interesting Catalan jazz albums of the sixties. Supposed to be a first volume in a series of Jamboree related jazz, it opened with the great Ricard Miralles penned piece "Asteriscs", and then moved to a couple of standars ("Stella by Starlight", "On Green Dolphin Street"). B side showed a love for more modern jazzers, including Winton Kelly's "Kelly Blues", John Coltrane's "Theme For Ernie" ,Charlie Parker's "C.T.A." and Miles Davis´s Solar Bonus Track
Lovers of modern jazz and labels like Blue Note or Prestige will enjoy this first ever vinyl reissue, original artwork in nicely proper backflapped sleeve (improving a bit the quality of the Edigsa sleeves from the era which were a mere paper folded by the middle), remastered sound, in a limited edition of 500 copies only plus one bonus track.

Sfetsas formed GFO in 1976, in order to accomplish an ambition dating back to his 1960's Avant-garde period in Paris: to create a piece of work that would expand the boundaries of Greek traditional music. The result is a Progressive-Jazz Fusion masterpiece comprising complex and intriguing compositions, and performed by Athens' best musicians of the day.
.
Sfetsas grew up on the island of Lefkada where he studied classical music from an early age at the local conservatory. At the same
time he was genuinely connected to traditional music and especially to the sound of the clarinet, the lead instrument in the region's
folk music. From a young age Sfetsas would perform with Gypsy orchestras in local feasts. It was this experience that inspired him
to create the GFO after his return from Paris in 1975. Sfetsas founded the orchestra while working at the National Radio, an orchestra comprised mostly of members of the Variety Music Orchestra, who had a solid background in both classical and traditional music. In that way, he was able to realise his ambition. Something he could not do in Paris, since it was impossible to find musicians trained
in both musical cultures.
The recordings on this album, forming only a small part of his overall body of work with GFO, are previously unreleased. The music
was recorded Stereo on Reel Tape and with high standards for the time, with the current mastering process highlighting even more
the quality of the recordings. The result is a truly impressive and pure audiophile album.
