The British progressive rock legends Yes released their studio album “The Ladder” in 1999, which marks the first studio recording including Igor Khoroshev as a full-time band member.
Furthermore, “The Ladder” was the first album in a long time to not be produced by the band itself, but by an external producer - Bruce Fairbairn, who had previously worked with bands such as The Scorpions, AC/DC and Bon Jovi. The album featured three singles (“Homeworld (The Ladder)”, “Lightning Strikes” and “If Only You Knew”) and saw Yes return to a creative form, encapsulating
Latin music elements and world music influences.

Sadly, Fairbairn passed away shortly before the album’s completion, so Mike Plotnikoff finished his work together with the band. Yes dedicated “The Ladder” to Fairbairn.

Strange Valleys, the 2018 full-length from Starving Daughters, is a progression as well as a shift in sound from the LA band's already-stellar previous releases.

Make no doubt about it that the sound of Progressive Rock and Psychedelia still play a big role here but there's certainly a greater influence from Library Music on the new LP.

The Starving Daughters Vinyl Impressions blog, led by Chris Tillotson of the band, shared the music of Chris's collection of which many were Library LP's.
These records seemed to have seeped into the mind, body, and souls of the whole band on this Strange Valleys LP.
Everything from the instrumentation, the attention to melody, to the track-length shows the large appreciation they have for Library music.

That being said, this moog-heavy, psychedelic-prog-funk, California-themed record is certainly unique and adventurous.
Winding through the exotic roads of Strange Valleys is certainly a trip well worth taking over and over again.

The late 70s found Turkey in an economic slump, and there was a huge rise in political violence. Baris, who so often put out collections of singles, rose to the occasion by spending 6 months holed up with his longtime backing band the Kurtalan Ekspres. The result was this studio album of Anatolian bummer psychedelia, often unfairly overlooked because it came out in the rather un-cosmic year of 1979, but also considered his best work by many. Yep, there are still electrified versions of Turkish folk songs, and the spaceshot ARPs & Korgs of 2023' are here too, but don't expect a happy swing around the ceiling of a planetarium.

The real star of the album is the keyboard player, whose name translates to 'Sword Agent'. Yeni Bir Gun' is viciously funky & brilliantly arranged, with tidbits stolen out of the latest disco hits, & lean, mean synthesizers that emerge from the beats like carbonated bubbles. Melancholy maqams & catastrophic Korgs collide when the Turkish psych master glides unflinchingly into the grim late 70s!!

Steve Walsh is known for his work as the frontman of the progressive rock band Kansas, from which he retired in 2014. On his new solo album Black Butterfly the influences from his past are brought together in some compact rock songs. Steve wrote the 14 songs of the album together with the Swedish musician Tommy Denander and the Christian rocker Jerome Mazza takes the lead vocals on three songs. The music goes from the sounds of Kansas ( The Piper') to the beats of Warsaw' and the political news on Billy Carbone Dead'. Black Butterfly is a wonderful return to Walsh' studio work.

Whoever speaks out the name of Steve Walsh will directly think about the massive worldwide success of the American rock band Kansas. He was the lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist on their well-received albums Leftoverture and Point of Know Return as well as on their single hits Carry On Wayward Son' and Dust in the Wind'. Their progressive songs were interspersed with rock ballads and attracted a massive following.

Black Butterfly is available as a limited edition of 1.000 individually numbered copies on solid gold vinyl.

Mod was a peculiarly British movement. It originated in early-Sixties London without spreading significantly to America or Europe, although it did pave the way for the Swinging London scene which fascinated the world. Yet if the influences which created the distinctive Mod look came from a variety of different locations, the music had to be American - and the less mainstream the better. This album reflects that philosophy.

Issued on le Kiosque d'Orphée in 1979, Voyage aux fonds de la Mer is the only LP by Alain Meunier (not to be confused with French classical music cellist of the same name), and is one of the most elusive collector pieces of the 1970s electronic experimental French scene.

This rare sought after album starts with an instrumental guitar introduction but from the second track onwards it becomes a totally electronic experimental psychedelic trip that can be aligned with the most kosmische side of kraut rock, and of course also with other works by French experimentalists of the era like Pascal Comelade's Fluence or Richard Pinhas' production (including Heldon). Guitar comes in now and then showing also a certain Robert Fripp influence.

Instruments used according to the insert sheet that came with the LP are a Korg 800 DV synthesizer, a K.O. Welson Clavinet, effects like a Fender Echo or a Electroharmonix Small Stone phaser and a fuzz pedal, plus Meunier also used a Gibson Les Paul Custom Guitar, a 12 string acoustic Eko guitar and a 6 string Morris guitar.

The 70s band Brinsley Schwarz evolved from a steady rock band to a group which became the definitive pub rock band. The detailed sound of their fourth album Nervous on the Road and the smooth production makes it a great album to listen to. There are some excellent rock & roll songs on the album, like Happy Doing What We're Doing' and Surrender to the Rhythm'. A lot of fun and humor is to be found in the good old country tracks, but there is also an emotional side when you hear the ballads.

Brinsley Schwarz started back in the beginning of the 60's, when Nick Lowe and Brinsley Schwarz met at school. The following years the definitive line-up were changing the style of the band from pop to folk and from psychedelic to rock. The album disbanded in 1975.

Hoobastank is an alternative 4-piece rock band from California (USA), formed in 1994 and the three remaining original members are still performing, recording and touring to this day. Signal Red is a brand new band from the UK and features two very respected musicians, namely Guitarist Steve Grocott (Ten) and Vocalist Lee Small (Phenomena / Shy / Lionheart). The collaboration first came together in February, 2013 when Steve was at a loose end. He had been in a band previously called Sevendayz' which had recently folded. Following he contacted Lee as he had heard so much about him, mainly from the self-titled SHY album that appeared in 2011. The two hit it off straight away and it seemed inevitable that an album would follow.Steve got caught up working with the UK band (Ten) as Gary Hughes asked him to be in the bands line-up for some shows and to feature on the new album, so the Signal Red production was halted for a while. Eventually Steve's time freed up so he could once again concentrate on new material for the album and the whole thing has just progressed into a fantastic recording. Lee is a very soulful, melodic vocalist and has featured on 17 albums as lead vocalist and on many more that have featured him as a guest, Dante Fox' and Magnum' to name but two.

This exciting new adventure is bound to cause a stir, and with Brian Anthony twiddling the knobs (Steve Walsh) then this is going to be an album people will be talking about. Lee came up with the title one day thinking that trying to get recognition for what you live and breathe for is like living under the radar'. Grateful Dead continue its ambitious 50th anniversary reissue series with Anthem Of The Sun: 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition.

The band's most experimental album, Anthem Of The Sun was an unprecedented mix of studio and live recordings stitched together to create a hybrid. Fifty years later, it remains a pinnacle of psychedelic music. It also marked a departure for the band, as they began to channel their creativity into longer jams on songs like 'Alligator' and 'Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks)' - two live staples of the Dead's early days. During this period, the band included: Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron 'Pigpen' McKernan, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann.

The CD includes two versions of the original album — one fully remastered from the original 1968 mix, and the other remastered from the more well-known 1971 mix. Both mixes of the albums were mastered by Grammy®-winning engineer David Glasser from the original analog master tapes.

The set also includes a bonus disc with a previously unreleased complete live show recorded on October 22, 1967 at Winterland in San Francisco, CA. Newly remastered by Jeffrey Norman, this is the first known recording of the Grateful Dead with Mickey Hart, who joined the band in September 1967. In addition to performing songs from the group's eponymous debut ('Beat It On Down The Line' and 'Morning Dew'), they also previewed tracks from Anthem Of The Sun ('New Potato Caboose' and parts of 'That's It For The Other One.')

Like all the albums in the ongoing series, Anthem Of The Sun will be released 50 years after its anniversary date as a two-disc deluxe edition that includes the original album with newly remastered sound, plus a bonus disc of unreleased live recordings. The album will also be released as a 12-inch vinyl picture disc produced in a limited edition of 10,000 copies, which will feature the remastered 1971 mix of the album, as well as being available digitally. All versions will be available on July 13, a few days before the album's official golden anniversary on July 18.

J.J. Cale († July 26, 2013) was an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. His influence as a musical artist has been widely acknowledged by many rock musicians and is considered to be one of the originators of The Tulsa Sound, an amalgamation of blues, rockabilly, country and jazz.

Classic songs, written and performed by J.J. Cale, like After Midnight', Cocaine', Call Me The Breeze' and many more were re-recorded by other acts and artists who enjoyed success with them. His collaboration with Eric Clapton on The Road To Escondido' won the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2006.

Gloria sounds like Californian sun soaked psychedelia mixed with sturdy French technique. Three female vocalists singing in harmonies front this six piece from Lyon. Some have drawn comparisons with The Shangri Las, The Castaways or Pretty Things at times.

Gloria started out as a studio project, they released their first LP 'In Excelsis Stereo' in late 2016 to critical acclaim in their home country.

They then started touring, gaining a reputation of brilliance, perfect for festival appearances. This mini-LP gathers six songs created on the road, lots of love, laughter, friendship, reverb, singing.

The duo released one more CD, this one under the Tendrils moniker, in 1998 on the Half A Cow label, before parting ways. We think this is a very special release which deserves a new appreciation and a 21st-century audience. Both Joel and Charlie are still very active in music (Joel's other band, Hoss, will be releasing their first album in 20 years on Sorcerer in 2018), but with Tendrils you get to hear the magic they made together circa 1995.
This edition comes newly remastered by Mikey Young with fresh artwork design from Luke Fraser and is limited to 500 copies worldwide.
