In Early September 1969, Tim Buckley Played Four Sets Over Two Days At La Club The Troubadour, Along With A Rehearsal Set, All Of Which Were Recorded. These Shows Featured Buckley At His Improvisational Best, Each Performance Of Every Song Being Different From Other Performances Of The Same Song.
On These Recordings, Buckley Was Accompanied By His Guitarist Lee Underwood And Congas Player Carter C.c.Collins, Along With John Balkin On Bass And Frank Zappa/captain Beefheart Drummer Art Tripp.
These Recordings Have Been Issued Across Three Cd Releases In 1994 And 2017, But This 6 Lp Box Set Is The First Time That They Have Been Gathered Together In One Release. Features Extensive And Explanatory Annotation By Compiler Pat Thomas, Along With Photos And Ephemera.

This is the first ever release of these four Tim Buckley demos, mastered from the original tape by Bill Inglot and Dan Hersch. They are believed to have been recorded in 1966, after the Orange County demos of November 1965, but before the recording of debut album Tim Buckley' in August 1966.
- The annotation on the inner sleeve has been written by LA-based Buckley expert Pat Thomas. He has interviewed Larry Beckett, Buckley's school-friend, and co-writer of many of his early songs, including three of these.Beckett identifies the lead guitarist as Brian Hartzler (rather than subsequent mainstay Lee Underwood), the bass player as Jim Fielder (later of Buffalo Springfield, The Mothers, and Blood Sweat & Tears), and the drummer as possibly himself.
- Three of the four songs ( It Happens Every Time', I Can't See You' and Grief In My Soul') on this EP were re-recorded for the debut album with a different set of musicians - this release affords the Buckley fan the opportunity to hear the songs before Buckley signed to the Elektra label and the professionals got hold of them.

Prior To Joan Jett, Patti Smith, Courtney Love And Other Era-defining Women In Rock, There Were The Girls In The Garage. Like Their Male Counterparts Discovered, Being In A Band Was Not Only Cool And Alluring, It Was Sexual And Ultimately Political Without Making A 'political' Statement. The Garage Band Was A Medium That Enabled A Voice To Be Heard, An Adolescent Fury Of Angst And Frustration Or Plain Old Hormones. Girls In The Garage Captures The Raw Essence Of Those Juvenile Dreams Played Out Through Guitars, Drums, Mics And Amplifiers. Prevailing Gender Roles Would Be Tested, As Rock 'n' Roll Became Someone Else's Domain The Girls!!

The Arrival Of Rock 'n' Roll And The Teenager Not Only Belonged To The Boy Next Door, It Aroused The Aspirations And Emotions Of The Girl. Although It's Been Said That It Was Rare For A Girl Group To Play On Their Own Records In The Mid-1960s, They Were Not Alone. On Both Sides Of The Atlantic, Cynical And Shrewd Producers Largely Employed Session Musicians, Afraid Of Any Conceivable Faults At The Hands Of Such Young And Innocent Hands, Male And Female. The Ones Who Didn't Were Bold Visionaries That Believed Not Only In A New Generation's Ambitions, But Capabilities Too. As The Rise Of A Female Presence In Rock 'n' Roll Rose Through The Appearance Of Figures Such As The Vejtables' Jan Errico, The Honeycombs' Honey Lantree, And The Fabulous Maureen Tucker (whose Deliberately Primal Technique Is Such An Undervalued Part Of The Velvet Underground's Sound), So Too Did The Rise Of All-female Bands. Liverpool's Liverbirds And Hull's Mandy And The Girlfriends Gave Weight To The Idea That It Was 'normal' And Paved The Way For Likeminded Girls To Drop The Dream Boy And Pick Up The Guitar!

Although, The Prevailing Attitude Amongst Both Major And Independent Record Labels Was Never Going To Be Inspiring Or Welcoming, Like The Wailing Blues Mamas Such As Memphis Minnie Or Jessie Mae Hemphill, Times Were-a-changin' And Girls Didn't Just Want To Have 'fun'. Though not a household name, Bernadette Carroll is one of the more successful teen vocalists of the girl group era. She charted as a member of the Angels, as a solo act, and as a for-hire backup singer, performing on at least two #1 hits, selling over a million copies of each. You've heard her voice, whether you know it or not.

Her early '60s work with Hazlet, New Jersey, producer Tommy Falcone resulted in a handful of singles for the Cleopatra and Julia labels, including the syrupy ballad Laughing on the Outside (Crying on the Inside)' and the upbeat dancer Heavenly.' Laughing' was buried in a New Jersey basement until we pulled it from obscurity for last year's End of the F***ing World' for Netflix, which garnered the track five million streams in its first three months. The Olivers from Fort Wayne, Indiana are best known for their highly sought after 1967 Picture Cover 45 on Phalanx Records titled "I Saw What You Did" b/w "Beeker Street". The single got picked up by RCA Records for nationwide release and is today rated as one of the best and most exciting double sided major label garage 45s of the 1960s. A planned second single and LP release for RCA never happened. Long standing rumours of a "Lost LP" however, were confirmed when a one-of-a-kind reference acetate of an unreleased GRT album by The Olivers was found recently. The album, recorded after several line-up changes in early 1969 at Dove Studios in Minneapolis turned out to be a psychedelic jewel. An amazing album featuring the amazing rich and significant voice of leadsinger Billy Franze and on a par with the legendary psych albums of the era. Dove Sessions features the nine minute long Jessica Ryder', the spooky Mushroom', the brooding organ driven The End', plus psychers such as Ball Of Fire', heavy rockers such as Free' and the trippy never ending 11-minute slashing guitar freakout of Social Slavery'. Unjustifiably shelved 40 years ago, this amazing organ drenched fuzzfest proves that the band does not only deserve the plaudit "Indiana Sixties Rock Heroes", but also had the potential for the national breakthrough that never happened. The LP captures the incredible talent and versatility of the Olivers and adds an essential piece of vinyl to their discography. A four-page LP sized insert documents the band's career as told by its original members and a cache of unseen photos completes the band's 1963 - 71 history.

The Olivers from Fort Wayne, Indiana evolved out of the Serfmen, a very popular band in the region, that had already released two nowadays rare 45's on their own Nemfres label. When the Serfmen signed with Dino Enterprises, an Indianabased agency in 1966, original member Greg Church left the band and was replaced by Billy Franze from another local group, The Unexpected. The Band then moved in a more British invasion direction for their music and outfit and changed name to "The Olivers". The line-up at the time consisted of Jay Penndorf (guitar, vocals), Chuck Hamrick (drums), Carl Aldrich (keyboards, vocals) and Billy Franze (bass, vocals). The group's sole 7" release, "I Saw What You Did" b/w "Beeker Street" was recorded at Cap Studios in Portage, MI and was released with a Picture Sleeve later that year on the local Phalanx Label. The single got picked up by RCA Records for nationwide release and is rated today as one of the best and most exciting double sided major label garage 45s of the 1960s. Break-A-Way has re-issued the 45 with its original front sleeve and a newly designed backcover feat a short band history and unseen pictures.

33 Minutes Of Pure, Unadulterated, Psychedelic Krautrock Courtesy Of Pyramid: An Obscure Studio Project Produced By Toby Robinson Aka The Mad Twiddler. These Sessions Were Recorded Circa 1975-76 In Cologne For The Underground Pyramid Label, Which Was Operated By Toby And His Friend Robin Page (the Fluxus Artist). During That Time, Toby Worked As Engineer And Assistant At Various Studios In Cologne, Including The Famous Dieter Dierks Studios, Where Most Of The Albums From The Ohr/pilz/cosmic Courier Catalogue Were Registered. Having Access To The Studios During Dead Hours, Toby Recorded Lot Of Sessions Just For Fun Without Any Commercial Interest, Featuring Friends And Musicians Who Frequented The Studios And The Underground Art/music Scene Of Cologne. Some Of These Sessions Were Later Relesed As Hand-made Vinyl Micro Pressings On His Pyramid Label With Help From Artist Robin Page.

The Baroque Pop Band The Left Banke Formed Back In 1965 In New York City. With Their Debut Album Walk Away Renée/pretty Ballerina They Hit The Charts And Both Title Songs Became Hit Singles In The Us. They're Known For Their Vocal Harmonies, Which Can Be Heard On Most Of The Tracks Of The Album. With Their Pioneering Use Of Strings, Harpsichord And Woodwinds They Created A Unique Baroque Sound. The Nineteenth Whole's first (and only) album was originally released in 1972 on Eastbound Records, super rare and fetching large sums on the collectors market, now finally back available as a limited (500 copies) deluxe vinyl edition.

Presented here are five lengthy soul-jazz pieces (including material from 'Sly Stone', 'War' & 'The Jackson 5') with funky grooves and some of the best sparkling organ & guitar licks you'll ever hear. This album sets the stage for a constant shift in grooves, a collage of earthy Funk, Soul, Rock and Jazz Fusion straight outta 1972... an emotional ride packed with the main ingredients for a 'get down'.

The Nineteenth Whole were an Indianapolis-based funky jazz outfit who were part of a very vibrant scene. Jazz guitar legend 'Grant Green' had originally hailed from there and he recruited the members of the 19th Whole as his rhythm section for live dates. (Green also discovered the other great Indianapolis jazz outfit Funk Inc. at about this time.) The attention that followed their work with Green allowed the Nineteenth Whole to sign with producer Bob Porter (responsible for many superb jazz productions for Prestige and Atlantic) on Eastbound, a label he had set up with Detroit independent Westbound Records.

The Singer - Who Once Boasted He Drank More Than A Case Of Beer A Day To Keep Fit - Had Failed To Overcome His Drinking Problem Through Private Treatment And Therefore Felt It Necessary To Undergo A Hospital Program Of Treatment.

The Characters In The Songs On The Lp Were All Based On Actual People The Shock Rocker Met In The Sanatorium, While The Album's Cover Image Is A Close-up Of Alice Cooper's Face Printed On Two Doors That Actually Open Up And Lead Into A Hospital Waiting Room. The Printed Inner Sleeve Features An Image Of Cooper And The Other 'inmates' Running Out Of The Sanatorium Once They Were Released.
