In the last three years Nika Roza Danilova has gone from being an outsider, experimental, teenage noise-maker to a fully-fledged, internationally-celebrated, electronic-pop musician. It was a huge accomplishment, and, despite her age (young), her origins (mid-western, desolate), her accelerated scholastic achievements (high school and college were each completed in three years) and her diminutive physical size (4'11', 90 lbs), she has triumphed. She has emerged as a figurehead— a self-produced, self-designed, self-taught independent woman. Zola Jesus is not a singer, she is a musician. Zola Jesus is not a band, it is a solo project. That is not to say the people who have helped her along the way were not deeply important. Her irreplaceable live band (whose drummer Nick Johnson lends a hand on several tracks here) and her friend Brian Foote (who co-produced this album), in addition to the live string players who contribute here (Sean McCann, Ryan York), were all crucial in the process. Still, Nika is a woman who can command a room—any room—without needing a band, a stage, or even a microphone. Her voice is unmistakable; it cuts right to the core. Named after an old Detroit blues LP, Hasting's Street Opera was formed in Montclair, New Jersey by a group of young friends (Harry Wellott, Gordon Carlisle, Don Hathaway and Chris Nelson) influenced by blues, rock, jazz and the eclectic sounds emanating from freeform / underground FM radio stations: Blues Project, Butterfield Blues Band, Miles Davies, Pharaoh Sanders, Jethro Tull...

Initially born as a blues band, HSO eventually evolved into a true improvisation collective unit. 'Slippery When Wet' was recorded in 1969 at Don's house using a portable recorder operated by their math teacher, the famous old-time music preserver Charles Faurot. It was a vanity pressing of less than 100 copies, housed in hand-made covers which were distributed among friends and family.

For this, the first ever reissue, original band member and visual artist Gordon Carlisle has designed a new vintage styled cover based on old photos of the band.

Previously unreleased recordings, 1968/1970, by British quintessential psychedelic / progressive band MANDRAKE PADDLE STEAMER / MANDRAKE, culled from the band's archive of reel tapes and acetates.

Unlike other 60s British bands who changed their music to 'psychedelic' or 'progressive' with the time, MPS were born "progressive" from day one. Formed in 1967 in Walthamstow (London) by a core of art school students, their members were Brian Engel, Martin Briley, Paula Riordan, Martin Hooker and Barry Nightingale (later replaced by David Potts).

During their short lifespan (1967-1970), MPS supported big names like Pink Floyd, The Nice or Vanilla Fudge. They played at the Isle Of Wight Festival, had a residence at the Star Club in Germany and ran their own club night (Asgard).

Signed to the Parlophone label (though the band was aiming to be part of the more progressive Harvest imprint) they released in 1969 the 'Strange Walking Man' 45, recorded at Abbey Road and now widely considered a lost British psychedelic classic (check Rubbles, Perfumed Garden, etc). Due to lack of promotion and interest from their record label, the 45 went nowhere. After some line-up changes and shortening their name to just Mandrake, the band definitively split in 1970.

'Pandemonium Shadow Show' collects studio recordings registered by Mandrake Paddle Steamer / Mandrake during 1968/1970 at various London studios such as Regent, Orange and other unknown locations. Some of these tracks had been previously included on several bootleg albums with inferior sound quality / wrong titles and others have remained unreleased until now.

Morrissey is never one to do things the accustomed way, instead throughout his career he's carved a niche in the musical landscape which only he can occupy. And his decision to curate a brand new compilation at very short notice ahead of his tour dates, with new liner notes and a few surprises in the tracklisting, shouldn't come as a shock to anyone.

So here it is, This Is Morrissey. A collection of studio classics, live tracks and the alternative Mael mix of the ever-popular 'Suedehead', all chosen by the man himself. He explains all on this brand new interview for tremr, with this neat little summary of the tracks he's chosen:

Housed in a standard single CD jewel case, with a four page booklet and brand new liner notes by author Fiona Dodwell, there will be two versions of the CD product, a twelve track version for the world outside of North America and a ten track version for North America, final detail of which will be confirmed on a separate note at a later point. The digital version will reflect the twelve track CD release.

There is also a thirteen track vinyl edition, with the additional track 'Angel, Angel, Down We Go Together', complete with identical liner notes only this time written in French, another of Morrissey's little curio's.

Souls Of Black is the fourth studio album by American thrash metal band Testament. The album was released in 1990. It preceded several changes in style to rather diverse styles of metal, including the traditional heavy metal sound heard in its succeeding album, The Ritual. In order to promote Souls of Black, Testament supported Megadeth, Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies in Europe on the Clash of the Titans tour. Souls of Black is also seen as an influential guitar album, being ranked number nine on Guitar World magazine's top ten list of guitar albums of 1990.

Testament is often credited as one of the most popular and influential bands of the thrash metal scene, as well as one of the leaders of the second wave of the genre in the late 1980s.

Galveston's premier Psychedelic/Garage band! Formed in Galveston in the mid-60s, the Countdown 5 were one of the leading psychedelic / garage bands from Texas. From sharing stage with legendary Houston groups like Moving Sidewalks, the Clique and 13th Floor Elevators and opening for big names like Paul Revere & The Raiders, they went to running their own label (Toucan) and were also part owners of the renowned Walter Andrus Studio, home to bands like the Elevators and Fever Tree.

'Uncle Kirby' is focused on the psychedelic period of the band (1967-68), including their most psych sounding 45 sides (in original mono mixes) plus unreleased tracks recorded at Andrus Studios which had never been released on vinyl until now.

Bremen finds two luminaries of the Swedish punk underground, Jonas Tiljander (Brainbombs) and Lanchy Orre (Totalitär, Brainbombs, Teenage Graves, etc), coming together to explore the dark side of kraut and progressive rock, early electronic and drone music, whilst also invoking the fathomlessly bleak interior landscapes conjured by Nico/Cale on The Marble Index and Desertshore.

'Following a trio of sprawling, planet-gargling double-LPs, 2013's self-titled LP on Skrammel, and Second Launch (2015) and Eclipsed (2017) on Blackest Ever Black, Bremen - J. Tiljander and Lanchy, previously best known for their contributions to Brainbombs' long rapsheet of genius-and- brutality, but latterly exponents of a rarefied cosmic melancholy - return with Enter Silence, their most concise, and powerful, album to date. Once again the Uppsala multi-instrumentalists combine elements of trogged-out psychedelic rock with a deadly serious Arctic minimalism and weeping modal improvisations that owe more to the outer limits of jazz and burnt-out free music from Japan. It's connoisseur's space music, grown-up and grievously honed; outwardly inclined towards the epic but studded with details that reward attention and introspection. There's always been a strong undercurrent of sadness animating Bremen's work, and that existential burden is present and correct on Enter Silence, culminating in the all-out cosmic anguish of 'Palladium'. Even 'The Middle Section', whose ragged chords are nothing if not the sound of optimism and defiance, sounds like it's navigating some kind of unsayable trauma. But this band has always allowed plenty of room for bonehead slash-and-burn as well: see here especially the Stoogeian/39 Clocks-ish rock'n'roll of 'Aimless Cruising' and the pulpy quasi-cinematic tension of 'Sinister', or the brilliant 'Too Cold For Your Eyes', a blast of voidal motorik that sounds like a cranked-up Clean. Cigarettes After Sex are an ambient pop group based out of Brooklyn NY, led by vocalist/songwriter Greg Gonzalez and are inspired by the likes of Cocteau Twins, Mazzy Star and the sound of early 60s records like the Paris Sisters.

The band became a word-of-mouth phenomenon, generating over 100 million views on YouTube for their exquisitely yearning, graceful pop noir - all without the support of a label. They partnered with
Partisan Records for their debut album, which was released in June 2017.
'Crush' was written and recorded in the same sessions as the album, however was previously unreleased. The B-side is recently released 'Sesame Syrup' (also taken form the album sessions). This 7' will be the first time either of the two tracks have ever been available physically.

World Clique is the debut album by the dance-music band Deee-Lite, released in 1990. The album's first single, 'Groove Is in the Heart, was a top-five success on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles Chart as well as a number-one hit on the U.S. Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Three subsequent singles also hit the top ten on the U.S. dance chart, including Power of Love/Build That Bridge and Good Beat, which also hit number one.

Guest artists on the album include Bootsy Collins (Try Me On... I'm Very You, Smile On, Groove Is in the Heart, and Who Was That), Q-Tip (Groove Is in the Heart), Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker (Try Me On... I'm Very You, Smile On, Groove Is in the Heart).

Masaki Batoh's 'Nowhere' reaches out of the darkness, with strings of
steel and voices echoing out of time.
In the summer of 2018, Masaki Batoh held sessions at GOK Sound in
Tokyo, with the goal of making his fourth solo album. With a pure
folk singer approach, he started the recordings as a basic live
performance of guitar with vocal, using only two mics. If more
elements were needed, they would be added - but most important to
him was to capture the performance as immediately as possible.
GOK Sound is an all-analogue recording facility and once Batoh had
added a few elements such as bass, percussion, harmony vocals,
electric guitar, harp and a bit of mellotron (all played by himself in
response to his basic performances) and added the necessary reverb,
the world of 'Nowhere' was rendered as deep and sparkling as he
had hoped, consecrating the spiritual intentions of his songs.
Batoh played the basic tracks with acoustic 6 and 12-string guitars,
mainly a 1973 Guild D-40 and a 1972 Guild F-212. Two 1968 Gibson
models (a J50 and a B12) were used, as well as a 1972 Martin D18, a
1966 Pirles long-neck 5-string banjo and a Gibson Firebird for electric
guitar. Everything was tuned to drop D, a tuning taught to him in the
early 1980s by the legendary British folk musician Martin Carthy,
when Batoh was traveling through London. Many of the lyrics of
'Nowhere' - sung in English, Japanese and, on one song, Latin -
reference his younger days as well, when traveling the world and
witnessing for himself the majesty and shame of humanity.
The sound of 'Nowhere' reflects with dimensional richness the world
that Batoh has been traveling since those early days - a vast space
echoing with the music of many eras, played and sung in tongues of
many nations. This is a world where the guitar can play songs as
they've been played for centuries, or play in a hauntingly
hallucinogenic style or, as in the closing track, play with an open
mind and heart, thinking about these things without knowing exactly
where it will end.
The theme of Batoh's music is finding a common tradition in all these
various musics, to bring them forward in his own style and provoke a
shared desire to promote humanity in the audience. Batoh has
opened the door for you - if you are able to pass through, 'Nowhere'
is waiting for you.

Plasmatics were founded in 1977 when Wendy O. Williams responded to manager, artist, provocateur, and punk rock scenester Rod Swenson's casting call in the pages of Show Business Weekly for his theater show, Captain Kink's Sex Fantasy Theater. By 1978 they had recruited a full band and were performing regularly at CBGB's, where they quickly rose from playing once a week to performing two sold out shows a night during regular four night a week runs. Their provocative and wild live show - which often involved nudity and chain-sawed guitars - bridged the gap between punk rock and performance art. They quickly became notorious up and down the east coast and were signed to the legendary Stiff Records, who released their debut album in 1980. A perfect blend of punk, new wave, and metal sensibilities, with Wendy's tough, guttural drawl taking center stage, New Hope for the Wretched is a classic piece of first wave New York City punk rock lovingly back in print on LP from Radiation Reissues.

After releasing their first three albums Spirit started working on what is widely considered to be their best LP: Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus. By recommendation of Neil Young the band chose David Briggs as the producer, known for his work with Young. Like The Who's Tommy and Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon, Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus is critically regarded as a landmark of art rock. It offers some of their most melodic tunes and incredibly tight songwriting. An outstanding forty minutes of psychedelic infected music, essential for every music collection.

Between 1968 and 1977 Spirit was a highly regarded rock band achieving modest commercial success by charting no less than 11 albums in the U.S. The music of the Los Angeles based band consisted of a mixture of pop, rock, folk, blues, classical and jazz backgrounds. The band members ranged in age from 16 to 44 years old. Spirit's youngest member, Randy California, used to play alongside Jimi Hendrix (in 1966 known as Jimmy James) in Jimmy James and the Blue Flames.

The Family That Plays Together is Spirit's second album released in 1968, on which the group combined Jazz, Rock and even Classical elements. The A side's six songs are strung together into a seamless 20-minute suite, starting with the catchy hit song 'I Got A Line On You'. Clever harmonies, a multitude of instruments and intricate vocal arrangements result in an absolute landmark Sixties rock album. For those who have not given this legendary band a chance, it is worthwhile to do so.

This ground-breaking band from Los Angeles had Led Zeppelin open up for them when Led Zep went out on their first U.S. tour, where they struck up a mutual friendship. And Spirit's guitarist and main songwriter, Randy California, played in a band with Jimi Hendrix in '66. For those of you who were wondering, Spirit is the band that Led Zeppelin allegedly 'borrowed' the riff of 'Stairway To Heaven' from (check out the Spirit song 'Taurus' from their eponymous first album and decide for yourself).

With fuzz guitar leads, sitars, clavinets, intricate string arrangements, blaring horn sections and excellent songwriting, Spirit has it all. The album includes the track 'Taurus', of which Led Zeppelin (who once opened up for Spirit) allegedly 'borrowed' the riff of 'Stairway To Heaven', which was released three years later. The signature sound of the band is the combination of heavy tones, versatile drumming and unusual themes.

Under guidance of Randy California (a moniker which was given to him by the one and only Jimi Hendrix himself with whom Randy - born Randy Craig Wolfe - used to jam with in his pre-experience group The Blue Flames), Spirit was a freeform musical oddity that enjoyed huge success in the hippie Sixties and beyond. Combining Jazz, Rock, Prog, Folk and Indian influences, Spirit were unarguably the most interesting band under the Californian sun.

Mother Earth is the first album by the Dutch metal band Within Temptation. Featuring Sharon den Adel as the only vocalist the direction of the band changed from their doomy sound from the former EPs to a more symphonic style. The title song opens with a beautiful orchestral
melody before powerful drumming and guitar riffs pumping in. 'Ice Queen' reached number one in both the Netherlands and Belgium. With its prominent string arrangement and lyrical content it was a fine song in the early zero's. Overall Mother Earth is an emotive and
thoughtful collection of musical ideas overridden by some impressive vocal expressions.

The Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation was founded in 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. After their first recordings in the doom metal they were developing their music to a more accessible symphonic style, becoming known to the
worldwide public.

And So Our Man From Akron Returns. Rather, With Him At The Helm We Get Sonic Gems Such As The Loping Dub Bass Emerging From Nowhere In The Final Act Of The Most Excellently Titled "his Peculiar Livestreams" And The Metallic Resonances And Wide Open Spaces Conjured In "the Cruel Psychic," Compositional Sleights Of Hand That Make "first Appearance" A Record To Play And Replay In An Effort To Decode Its Odd And Many Mysteries.

Gabriel Rios started to release one single each month in October 2013, ending a year later by releasing the 12 track album This Marauder's Midnight. Singles like 'Madstone', 'Apprentice', 'Police Sounds' and especially the incredible 'Gold', the first song that he presented to the general public, were released during the year. His musical style changed to more modest song, with the attention on his vocal abilities. These raw songs layers the lyrics and shows how he's able to use his voice in different ways.

The American Hardcore Punk Band Agnostic Front Formed The Side Project Madball In The Late 80's, When Front Man Roger Miret Let His Brother Freddy Cricien Perform The Lead Vocals. They Released Their Debut Album Called Set It Off In 1994 As A Document Of The Hardcore Music They Were Making By That Time. The Classic Album Features A Wide Range Of Sound Effects Above The Groovy And Doomy Atmosphere Of The Music. The Speed Of The Title Track Alternates Between Fast Parts And Mid-tempo Bits And Brings The Focus On The Ever Ongoing Riffs. The Album Also Features The Song "down By Law", Where The Heaviness Of The Sound Is Brought In The Drum Beats.

Son Mieux is a collective formed around Dutch singer, songwriter & producer Camiel Meiresonne. Once the keyboard player in Soul Sister Dance Revolution and in his young years frontman of All Missing Pieces. After playing in bands since he was eleven years old, he is now a grown young man, ready to invite the world into his own. Son Mieux writes his songs in the after hours, which make his songs both intimate & alive. By combining folk, indie and electronic music, he manages to create a unique sound and to process the expressions of his personality in his music.

The past two years have been an accumulation of highlights for Son Mieux. Single 'Even' became 3FM Megahit, debut EP 'Vice Versa' (2016) was streamed more than 6 million times and the song 'Easy' was used under major advertising campaigns from ING, McDonalds and Deezer. The band toured the country with sold-out club shows, festivals such as Zwarte Cross and Where The Wild Things Are.

In 2017 and 2018 they took their time to write the debut album. With singles 'Hiding', 'Everyday' and 'Old Love', the debut album Faire de Son Mieux makes a more mature and fuller sound. Together with producer Thijs van der Klugt (Douwe Bob, Sue the Night), a deepening was sought without losing the characteristic Son Mieux sound.
