Brian Ellis returns with his most personal and well-rounded LP yet, 'Deep Clues', an 8-track project seamlessly encapsulating elements of funk, soul, adult-oriented rock (AOR), boogie, and electro. Following up his last full-length opus ('Mirror/Mirror'), 'Deep Clues' showcases Brian's studio and lyric songwriting prowess, using a variety of analog keyboards, drum machines, and guitars to create a singer/songwriter approach to modern funk and modern soul. Recorded and arranged to retain a live feel, each track takes you on a new journey through Brian's mind and experiences, creating very emotional and personal sentiments, and commentating on and commemorating modern life, love, and music.

'Deep Clues' starts the LP off with a vintage vibe, an introductory Rhodes-esque theme reminiscent of a bygone televised media era...before detouring right into the full-length track 'Bulletproof', a warm and hazy ode to being steadfast in love. 'Here I Am' truly takes on a library-prog-jazz-funk guise, dowsed in glowing synth layers and accompanied by Brian's shredding solo guitar work, and displaying unfettered and uncompromising wit within the lyrics. 'Brand New Love' is an arena rock-style ballad, featuring 'back to back' harmonic guitar leads and lyrics that personify the feelings that arise when entering a new love affair. 'My Favorite Song' is the lead single of the LP, an anthem for the fantasy California lifestyle of parties and free living, accompanied by your favorite tunes. Cruising along like it's title suggests, 'Night Drive' weaves together hypnotic guitar lines, while chugging through Ellis' manic worries and thoughts, attempting to get away from it all. 'Fantasy' is a powerful critique of modern culture and our ability to edit or shape our realities to suit whatever it is we already believe or want to believe. 'Never Had Nothin'' is a sparse and heavy drum machine and synth closer, a down and out anthem that beckons those end-of-the-night lighters to come out and light up the air, cherishing the past, present and future.

consciousness leaving it's temporary and insignificant vessel, a motorcycle ride

the epic yet somehow erotic omnibus of slow-motion electronica that is Voltage.

Californian electronic pop duo Peaking Lights make a splash on Dekmantel with 'Sea of Sand', the band's first release in 2018. It's a kaleidoscopic melting-pot of dainty dub, experimental and leftfield beats, with wondrous sunny soundscapes that blend together the unconventional home-fashioned electronics, and windswept vocals that have defined Peaking Lights to date. 'Sea of Sand' is the band's first record in three years not released on their own imprint. With six tracks, exceeding 30 minutes in total, the extended EP is a prelude to a forthcoming LP. With a DIY aesthetic and approach to analogue instrumentalism, Peaking Lights retro-digital sound is one that sits perfectly with Dekmantel.

Already with a string of highly acclaimed albums across their ten year production history, the husband and wife duo that is Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis have carved out a niche of quirky electronic, and psychedelic pop sounds. 'Sea of Sand' once against sees the act once again teaming up with an international label, having released on some of the most integral and pioneering imprints in the scene. The band, who founded themselves on innovative technology, and a pragmatic approach to sound and composition recorded the EP together in their home studio, Dreamfuzz. The result, 'Sea of Sand' feels more like a mini-LP, with a diverse mix of experimental beats, and extended electronic, pop-dubs. As ever, Dunis focuses primarily on vocals, along with synths, piano, and live electronic drums, with Coyes on synths, drum programming, and dubbing on a mixing console. Recording the vocals live in the studio, the band worked a lot with tape, using tape scratching effects to the give the record an even more dubbier feel. The record kicks off with the quirky, upbeat pop track 'Blind Corner', followed by slower Italo-like 'Hypnotized'. There's a wavey-krautrock sound on 'Shift Your Mind'; a glowing romanticism on 'Read your mind'; and a celestial ambience embedded through 'Noise of Life. The record concludes with the sonically divine harmonic piano track 'Sea of Sand', perfectly setting the template for the EP.

The Vibrators were one of the original UK first-wave punk-rock groups, playing legendary shows at London's Roxy Club, and the late great BBC DJ John Peel was an early fan, recordings sessions with the group for his radio show as early as 1976. Their 1977 debut album Pure Mania is an all-time punk rock classic and one of the most immediately catchy and tough releases of its era. Featuring two great tracks off this album, the classic 1977 single "Baby Baby" b/w "Into The Future..." is reissued here on a limited edition picture disc this April.

Formed in Oslo in 1996 by childhood friends Jon-Arne Vilbo and Thomas Andersen along with Jan-Henrik Ohme (later joined by Mikael Kromer, Lars

Erik Asp and Kristian Torp), Gazpacho have honed their unique sound over a string of critically acclaimed albums and numerous tours, including several with

long-time supporters Marillion. The band signed to Kscope in 2011 and have since released the acclaimed 'Missa Atropos' and 'March of Ghosts' albums but it was 2009's 'Tick Tock'

album that first brought the band to the label's attention. Upon release DPRP stated 'if you are a fan of music that transports you to another place, you will

find nothing better!' (10/10) and it was named album of the month by Eclipsed in Germany. This edition of 'Tick Tock' features the bonus track, 'Independence Day', an

The best Alarm album is now reissued on Double LP with the original 1985 US album pressing (which includes the band's preferred version

Instead, recording music is a continuous process usually working with different collaborators and seeing where the muse takes him. Somewhere down the line the rewards of a collaboration will coalesce into a body of work between thirty minutes and an hour long and he will put a call into the Rotters' team to say he has a new release ready to go.
We were visiting the studio catching up on new tracks in various states of readiness when he offered up some remixes of tracks from his recent 'Ruled by Passion...' he'd been sent by fellow musicians. Tim Fairplay, Andrew's partner in The Asphodells, Sean Johnston from A Love From Outer Space and Scott Fraser live and work in the area and all popped in at various points.
Andrew's black book reads like the who's who of contemporary music but rather than plunder it for remixers he'd let drop the idea of a remix with friends and neighbours. These plus a couple a swaps with musical friends who were new to the concept of remixing, gave Andrew an hour of music he thoroughly enjoyed listening to.
It goes without saying none of the tracks are duds but our ears always prick up when Justin Robertson's take on 'Beglammered' ups the heart rate or Daniel Avery's own unscrewing of '... the Axis' ruffles the neck hairs. We've stopped arguing in the office about which is the best track. They all are.

Devendra Banhart presents a very unique & precious compilation featuring his best friends never heard before demos. Among them some of the yesterday and today's most talented musicians and singers of the folk-pop-experimental scene. Movies For Ears is a retrospective collection of works by Polish-born, Glasgow-based artist Ela Orleans which
navigates almost two decades of songwriting in the heart of the global pop underground. This remastered collection casts
an ear over what Orleans might call the 'pop sensibility' within her back catalogue. Released previously on a number of
small DIY labels, Orleans' music coincided with the explosion of auto-didactic musicians finding their voice in the age of
the blogosphere, artists emboldened by the democratisation of music-making afforded by the internet. From the outset,
Orleans' childhood studying formal music mixed with cut-up techniques, sampling, sound-art and experimentation to
create a distinctive signature cloaked in an innate melancholy and playfulness. Fully remastered by James Plotkin,
featuring extensive sleeve-notes and rare photos from Orleans' archive, Movies For Ears presents an appraisal of the
musician's work, painting a portrait of an artist with an uncanny ability to evoke emotions and ghosts of memories in the
listener.
Each song pulls sunshine from its surroundings, moments of pleasure plucked from eulogies. The Season employs a
hypnotic loop with Orleans's prophetic voice heralding the season we're doomed to repeat. In fact the singer is often cast
as the changing protagonist in her songs: on Walkingman, a hazy ballad heavy with ennui, the narrator is laden with the
world's weight, forever pacing a groundhog day world blank, a pissed-off actor in a Kafka-esque melodrama. On Light At
Dawn we're in a seedy kitsch bar-room go-go scene, a ghostly rock'roll romance with shimmering percussion, poledancing
in a Lynchian half-dream. Movies For Ears' moods straddle memory and fantasy: scratchily invoking halfremembered
exotica, the flickering shadows of europhile cinemas screens, a delicately woven world anchored in Orleans
existential meditations on longing, intimacy, solitude and the search for love. These rich textures in every song don't
overpower some crystalised moments of emotion however: on In Spring Orleans sings simply 'I have been happy two
weeks together,' summarizing that feeling of elation when emerging from a depression, a long winter. It's a moment that
perfectly illustrates the lightness of touch and clarity in the singer's voice.
The power of the loop and Orleans' weaving songwriting that breaks its spell is illustrated perfectly by I Know. Over an
aching chord progression, the vocal takes flight into bittersweet loneliness, Pachelbel's Canon played at a wedding where
only one person shows up. The repeated refrain 'I know, I know' ascends to the heavens as the chords descend to the
dumps and the listener is left in the middle, happy but not knowing why, maybe a little changed, two weeks together. On
Movies For Ears, Ela Orleans lets us into a secret: the rare moments of joy to be found in the joins of the loop, the spaces
between things, the spring after the winter are the moments that last after the day has faded.

'I've never let myself be this exposed before,' she says, 'but this whole album is about facing who you are and fighting your way toward self-acceptance.' Between confessing a tantrum in a batting cage ('Little Flaws'), telling the story of her parent's kiddie-pool baptism ('Young Disciple') and singing openly about untangling her girlfriend's wet hair ('Deep Love'), this album is deeply rooted in the people and places, extraordinary and mundane, that have shaped Spaltro into the self-determining artist she is today. It took Spaltro almost a year to find the right co-producer. She initially attempted to make the record with an esteemed producer as she'd been advised but after being told that her arrangements needed rewriting by various veterans in the industry, Spaltro bravely changed direction and found a champion of her vision in Erin Tonkon, a less established producer whose six years working with Tony Visconti and later, David Bowie on his Grammy-winning Blackstar, made her more than qualified for the role. Benjamin Lazar Davis (Cuddle Magic, Kimbra, Okkervil River) played bass and piano and synthesizer. Jeremy Gustin (David Byrne, Albert Hammond Jr., Rubble Bucket) played drums. The post-hardcore band Orange 9mm released their debut studio album Driver Not Included in 1995. Listeners will get excited about their East Coast hardcore with flashes of metal and funk. This album rocks hard, but slows down to give the listener a break from all their energy and raw power. 'High Speed Changer' and 'Cutting and Draining' are two outstanding tracks. With the forceful choruses and intensive bass riffs they're giving you just a quick moment to catch some breath, before the band's moving on to the next song. It definitely deserves a place among the list of important '90s hardcore releases.

Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres release their eponymously titled debut album on Friday 26th April though Strap Originals/Cargo Records. A single, mixed by Cenzo Townshend, 'Who's Been Having You Over,' is available now.


'Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres' was recorded live to beautifully capture the essence and spirit of the Puta Madres at a family home overlooking a fishing village in Étretat Normandy, over 4 days last summer and mixed at Urchin Studios (East London). The album is engineered by Dan Cox (Laura Marling, Thurston Moore, Florence & The Machine)and produced by Jai Stanley (long time friend and manager).

'Peter Doherty & The Puta Madres' is a devastatingly intimate portrait of love, loss, being lost, happiness, tragedy, addiction and the power of the human soul to transcend its darker levels. All the songs from the album were road tested over the last 18 months across Europe at Festivals and headline shows.

Songs include the reflective 'All At Sea,' the raw 'Punk Buck Bonafide,' the upbeat and playful 'Shoreleave,' the joyous hymn of liberation 'Paradise Is Under Your Nose,' 'Someone Else To Be' Peter's re-imagining of the Velvet Underground's 'Ride Into The Sun' and Oasis' 'Don't Look Back In Anger and 'Who's Been Having You Over' with dialogue from the 1948 film adaption of Graham Greene 'Brighton Rock' and the cheeky poke at his own notoriety, 'You're so rock'n'roll.'

UK psych-pop group Plastic Penny released this, their debut LP, in 1968 on Kinks' manager Larry Page's Page One label. The opening track, 'Everything I Am' - written by Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, and originally recorded by Alex Chilton's group The Box Tops - was a #6 hit on the UK charts in early '68. While that was the extent of most of the world's exposure to Pretty Penny at the time, the rest of the album is a glorious slice of orchestral psych-pop with light progressive touches, and in the intervening years it has become a highly sought-after collector's item. Fetching three figures on the online market, Two Sides Of A Penny has moody arrangements, killer guitar work, swirling organ, and hooks galore, along with vocals reminiscent of the aforementioned Kinks' Davies brothers as well as a taste of Joe Cocker. Members of Plastic Penny would go on to greater fame in groups like Cochise, Procol Harum, Chicken Shack, and UFO, while drummer Nigel Olsson went on to be one of the UK's most popular session musicians playing with Elton John, The Troggs, and Rod Stewart, among others. This beautiful piece of late '60s psychedelic pop is reissued in a limited edition of 500 copies on 180 gram vinyl.

The last we heard from Stephen Bailey was a year and a half ago, when he released his debut album Silo, a sprawling collection of warped psych-pop that zigzagged between classic 60's rock and eerie freak folk, and served as an impressive introduction into his expansive sound. It has been a little bit of a break, although he certainly hasn't been resting on his laurels - Stephen also fronts Perth heavy-hitters Mt. Mountain, who just dropped their third album - but that makes it all the more exciting to reveal that his second Stephen Bailey album '9' comes out on the 22nd Feburary. '9' picks up where Silo left off, creating a familiar sense of warmth and lushness - however, this time around things feel more considered, compared to the lo-fi bedroom psych pop nature of 'Silo'. Led by woozy keys that constantly stab over a laid-back drum and bass grooves while grainy guitar chords chime in as instruments leave plenty of space for Stephen's warbly voice to cut through, up close and delicate, as he weaves the track's strongest hooks almost effortlessly. Expressions of indecisiveness towards love, misinterpretation and happiness in isolation litter the lyrics of '9' creating a introspective mood that suck you further into the lush atmosphere of Stephens recordings.

Matthew Sweet is an American singer-songwriter and rock musician. He was part of the burgeoning music scene in Georgia during the '80s, before gaining commercial success in the '90s. In 1991 Matthew Sweet released Girlfriend, the pop-rock album which was widely considered an artistic breakthrough. It quickly garnered impressive sales, spawning a top 10 single with the title track. The music video for 'Girlfriend' featured clips from the anime film Space Adventure Cobra and was heavily aired on MTV, MuchMusic and Night Tracks.

Girlfriend is Sweet's most commercially and critically successful album to date. Both the title track and 'Divine Intervention' did well on the charts. The album was included as number 61 on Paste's list of 'The 90 Best albums of the 1990s'.

In '05, itta (voice, Indian harmonium, toys) and Marqido (analogue synths) began a new, shifting musical life as 10 in Seoul, South Korea. To mark the massive March '11 earthquake in Japan, 10 took a step in their evolution by becoming (((10))). The ground moved in a much different way when son RAAI arrived in '12. Not missing a beat, or a good sign, (((10))) expanded to become Tengger. itta and Marqido, now with RAAI, incorporated all the adventures their self-described traveller family might have into their immediate lives and the sounds being being generated as Tengger. Touring the US, Asia and Europe, Tengger assimilate audience reaction and the myriad experiences of exploring and turn those elements into pillars of their sound, raw material for both foundation and take-off. It's no surprise, and absolutely fitting, that 'Segye' ()-Korean for world-encompasses the mind, time and space.

'Segye' began taking shape in '16 at Slow Slow Quick Quick (Seoul) during the demonstrations against President Geun-hye Park. Then, during the candle demonstration, artist Beck Jeajung made his voice heard and seen. Tengger, picking up on the synchronization, asked Jeajung to bring his art to the album taking shape. This environment, this bigger picture of family and community—this 'Segye'—feeds the album as much as Tengger's own inner circle and outbound adventures. Their lush electro/drone psych may be the product of knobs, wires and electricity, but it's made from the experiences that only the real world can provide, both immediate and distant. These inner and outer dynamics, often at odds with each other, fuse to give the pulsing of 'Segye' a subtle luxuriance that celebrates the humanity inherent in their music. itta's voice melds and dances with the sonic patterns and processes, to continually layer, move and build on each other to not only lift the listener upwards, but to take them to places to take off again; destination to be determined.

2018 saw the band recording a BBC6Music Marc Riley session before even releasing a physical record. In addition, they've had plays on Stuart Maconie's Freak Zone. The band have also gained a monstrously good live reputation, playing an instantly
legendary set at Hastings' Beatwave festival, as well as headlining Tannerfest, Pitch Fest, playing with Focus and The Fierce and The Dead, and the John Snow Society's annual celebration of the eminent epidemiologist.
Some describe them as 'educational psych', others prefer 'polytechnic beat', still more as 'a seventies garage band'. There's certainly primeval drums, fuzz bass, lashings of guitar and synth noises from another planet.
Formed from a gang of friends from Folkestone, Hoofe members have played in groups including The Heliocentrics, The Priscillas, Ye Nuns, Jail Cell Recipes, The Frank Sidebottom Oh Blimey Big Band, Chalet and Hyperglo.

Announcing a reissue of The Oh Sees - The Cool Death of Island Raiders
We here at Castle Face are not afraid to get our shins dirty mucking around in the stacks and we're well aware of an out-of-press gap of Oh Sees releases right before 2006 when we started the label with Sucks Blood. We're rectifying that and first among these is The Cool Death of Island Raiders, a particularly dusty gem that we think merits another look. Kicking off the record with what should have been the hit of the summer that year but for the hard C in the title, "The Gilded Cunt" seems to clearly preface Oh Sees' later psych skewed pop sensibilities. At the time it was an obvious jam and I recall being floored by its shuffling beauty. Chirping birds, gently lapping tempos and the nascent harmonization of Bridgid Dawson and Dwyer detail what I consider to be a definitive highlight of their early quiet period of the band. The tree hangs heavy with Patrick Mullins' handiwork, manning the musical saw, drums, and an assortment of home made electronics. It seemed a bit radical to be so quiet about it but the tunes are total earworms among the assorted drones, cut up bits of tape noise, and mellow front porch vibes, and the whole thing hangs together in a lovely hand-made way, helped in no small part by Dave Sitek's production (he would later work on Master's Bedroom as well). 'We flew Brigid out a fresh woman and literally sent her home on a plane with a trash bag of her clothes' says John. Evidently the whole record was accidentally erased at some point right around when the photo on the back of the jacket was taken, which makes it all the more remarkable that the result sounds so casually and confidently careworn. .

Athens Andover is The Troggs' 1992 album featuring ¾ of R.E.M. The collaboration came about serendipitously as R.E.M. had been covering The Troggs' 'Love Is All Around' during their 1991 tour in support of their classic Out Of Time album, and when The Troggs' found out about it, their manager suggested they work together. With the assistance of R.E.M.'s Bill Berry, Mike Mills and Peter Buck, as well as The dB's Peter Holsapple, who spent a lot of time on the road with R.E.M. as a tour musician, and recorded in Athens, GA, this is The Troggs finest post-'60s album. Featuring numerous Troggs originals, a tune written by the three members of R.E.M., one by Holsapple, as well as a great cover of Chip Taylor's 'Crazy Annie', Athens Andover is a great late period release from UK rock legends The Troggs, the name a combination of the two groups' respective hometowns. Reissued in a limited edition of 500 copies on 180 gram vinyl.

Next in UT's reissue and remastered back catalogue series, their first studio album "Conviction", originally released in 1986.
The 2019 remastered reissue of CONVICTION will include song lyrics, photos of the band and an introduction by Stewart Lee. The CD will add Ut's previously unreleased 7' single 'Ampheta Speak / While I Wait', recorded for Charles Ball's Lust/Unlust label in 1980. A CD booklet will feature the poster for the original 7' release and some of the cover artwork.
First 500 LP will come with Stewart Lee introduction as a printed insert.

Radical rock group UT was founded by Nina Canal, Jacqui Ham and Sally Young in 1978. Originated in the downtown NYC No Wave scene and inheritors of the collision between rock, free jazz and the avant-garde, Ut exploded the rigidity of conventional rock, constructing songs through collective improvisation, swapping instruments and rotating the role of singer/director.
Migrating to London in 1981, Ut played with bands like The Fall and The Birthday Party and released music on its own label Out Records, including Live at The Venue in 1982, the Ut EP in 1984, the Confidential 12' in 1985 and the LP Conviction in 1986. Ut became a favourite of BBC's John Peel and recorded sessions for his show in '84, '85 and '87. Joining forces with Blast First in 1987, they released the live compilation album Early Live Life and then the highly critically acclaimed In Gut's House in 1988, which made the year's NME 'Top 50 Albums'. The album Griller followed in 1989, engineered by label mate Steve Albini, who shared Ut's raw aesthetic and captured the band's vibrant intensity.Ut disbanded in 1990, but began performing again in 2010. Ut are now reissuing their entire remastered catalogue on Out Records through Forte Distribution. The reissues have so far included the Ut and Confidential 12' EPs in November 2017, Ut Live at The Venue in April 2018 and Early Live Life in November 2018. Other upcoming reissues will include their studio albums In Gut's House and Griller.

Pride was the second studio album by the American/Danish hard rock band White Lion, released in 1987. The album featured the two Top 10 hits 'Wait' and 'When the Children Cry'. Its first single 'Wait' did not make waves until MTV began airing the music video seven months after its release, pushing the single to #8 on the Billboard Hot 100. More than a year after the album's release, the second single 'Tell Me', also featuring a music video, hit #58. Pride's third single, a gentle acoustic ballad titled 'When The Children Cry' made it all the way to #3, marking Pride one of just 20 Hard Rock albums to ever have multiple top 10 hits. Consequently, the album peaked at #11 on the album charts. Pride would remain on the top 200 Billboard album charts for a full year, selling two million copies in the US alone, which awarded the album a Platinum status.

The Pride tour started in July 1987 as White Lion opened for Ace Frehley's 80's band Frehley's Comet. The next year and a half was filled with constant touring, opening for such bands as Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne and KISS. White Lion also landed the opening slot for AC/DC on their Blow Up Your Video American tour. They'd end the tour opening for Stryper in the summer of 1988.

Merriam-Webster definition of supergroup: a rock group made up of prominent former members of other rock groups, also: an extremely successful rock group. While the definition of 'extremely successful' may differ, there can be no arguing that Wolfmanhattan Project are a supergroup. This three piece features Bob Bert (Sonic Youth, Pussy Galore, Lydia Lunch's Retrovirus), Mick Collins (Gories, Dirtbombs) and Kid Congo Powers(Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Pink Monkey Birds) and their collective track record beats Blind Faith, West, Bruce & Laing and The Power Station's resumes combined! All three members write, sing and play in this band and, for anyone familiar with the member's other bands, this stuff is as twisted and great as one can hope for. Everyone involved brings flavors from their past efforts and it's all mixed together into one unholy rock 'n' roll gumbo. It's sleazy, swampy, trashy, no-wavey, weird and rocking! Lydia Lunch even makes an appearance, which makes this album that much more super!
