The album »Pillars of Salt« creates a space of freedom and activity in which Ozan Tekin shows his various skills as a keyboard player and producer, but also turns his innermost to the outside: Nothing sweet or narcissistic here. Three of the seven tracks were produced for the independent Turkish film »Tuzdan Kaide«, which had its premiere at Berlinale 2018. The surreal epos is transformed into a seductive hypnosis, not least thanks to Tekin’s music. Although just a few people have heard about Ozan Tekin before, the artist from Istanbul has already shown up in prestigious scenes: as the keyboarder of the Libyan disco star Ahmed Fakroun, as a part of Cologne’s nextbigthing Boddy and also under his singer-songwriter alias Seyrek Rifat.

NOON - Nobody Nothing Nowhere

"NOON" One of the most prominent and widely acclaimed polish producers, returns after a two-year break with the new album called "Nobody Nothing Nowhere".

The fifth solo work of NOON was released by his own label called "Nowe Nagrania". The idea of "Nobody Nothing Nowhere" is connected to the various places in Poland and Europe: from the first sketches recorded in Gdynia, through Warsaw and London, to the final recordings in Łódź. Alan Kamiński is responsible for the graphic design of the album, based on NOON's own photos.

The atmosphere of working on "Nobody Nothing Nowhere" is similar to the aura of "Gry Studyjne" LP - NOON's sophomore album. However, this time NOON puts emphasis on much greater advancement, devoting himself to work alone with one analog beat making machine called Elektron Rytm Mk2.

Mikołaj Bugajak on "Nobody Nothing Nowhere" is accompanied by excellent musicians and also his regular concert partners - drummer Marcin Awierianow, bassist Piotr Połoz (both from polish post-punk band Psychocukier) and violinist Tomasz Mreńca. It is worth mentioning that NOON's part's contained on "Nobody Nothing Nowhere" were programmed on the machine in the shape of live performances, which gave the LP additional element of dynamism and life.

"Album called "Nobody Nothing Nowhere" is an album about escape, which turns out to be impossible. All these struggles and attempts to change destiny resemble a spiral journey. The albums consists of three parts, and is summarized by the song called "Spektrum".

My fifth album is released less than two years after "Algorytm" premiere in terms of experiences that I wanted to share with the audience." (NOON)

Henrik Schwarz & Bugge Wesseltoft - In Spite Of Everything

Improvisation is the core of Bugge Wesseltoft's and Henrik Schwarz's collaboration. Technology and the joy of playing often meet and beautiful creations are formed somewhere between machine and human, balancing like a mobile delicately around a centre. For "In Spite Of Everything" the duo plays on two opposite grand pianos. One is driven by Wesseltoft's emotional piano playing and the second is a so-called player piano, in which the keys are driven by motors and which Schwarz controls in real time with a computer program written especially for this piece. The program is highly reactive and sensitive, creating a sparkling piano duet of pulsating energy and wild dynamics.

Die Gruppe Automat funktioniert wie eine gut geölte Maschine: Sie surrt, sie schnurrt, sie geht unbeirrt ihres Weges. Auf seinem vierten Album allerdings schaltet das Trio einen Gang herunter, differenziert seinen musikalischen Ansatz weiter aus und geht fruchtbare Kollaborationen mit anderen Figuren aus der Musikwelt ein. Neben Max Loderbauer, dem Bandnachbarn aus den Candy-Bomber-Studios in Berlin-Tempelhof, mit dem Jochen Arbeit, Achim Färber und Georg Zeitblom bereits im Jahr 2015 für eine gemeinsame EP zusammenarbeiteten, sind das am Mikrofon die Dub-Legende Paul St. Hilaire alias Tikiman, die Königin der Gossenpoesie Lydia Lunch und die Newcomerin Mika Bajinski. Sie alle tragen ihren Teil nach dem Leitprinzip bei, welches »Modul« seinen Namen verleiht: Die acht Stücke entstanden gemeinschaftlich nach einem Baukastensystem, das den Kompositionsprozess dynamisch in Bewegung setzte und gleichmäßig auf alle Beteiligten verteilte. Das Resultat ist ein musikalisches Perpetuum Mobile - ein Album mit dem gemäßigten Ruhepuls einer Dub-Produktion, das unablässig in Bewegung bleiben.
»Modul« bildet als Album einen ständigen Veränderungsprozess ab, der erstmals im Jahr 2018 im Rahmen eines Auftragswerks für das Berliner Festival Pop-Kultur live erfahrbar gemacht wurde. Auf Einladung des kuratorischen Teams erarbeiteten Zeitblom, Färber und Arbeit gemeinsam mit ihren musikalischen Gästen St. Hilaire, Lunch und Gemma Ray ein Live-Set, das konsequent aus dem Studio auf Grundlage einzelner Passagen entstand, die nach dem Prinzip eines Resonanzmoduls miteinander (re-)kombiniert wurden: es geht zwischen den einzelnen Mitgliedern hin und her, die Strukturen morphen und der Sound nimmt immer andere Formen an. Eben dieser Ansatz bedingt auch die ständige Weiterentwicklung der Stücke, die gemeinsam mit dem Produzenten Ingo Krauss zu einem Album geschliffen wurden, das seinen nahbaren improvisatorischen Charakter keinesfalls verloren hat. Im Vergleich zu den drei thematisch ausgerichteten Vorgängeralben »Automat«, »Plusminus« und »Ostwest«, die sich jeweils explizit mit Berliner Flughäfen, dem Genre Dub und der europäischen Flüchtlingskrise befassten, setzt »Modul« auf eine inhaltliche Durchlässigkeit, welche die musikalische Offenheit der Platte widerspiegelt.
Nachdem »Modul 15« das Album mit satten Dub-Sounds und einer rollenden Bassline eröffnet, hebt »Easy Riding« passend zu St. Hilaires vor Fernweh triefenden Lyrics das Tempo mit dezenten Riddims an. Schon im nächsten Song, »Ghost«, debütiert Bajinski mit distanziertem Stimmeinsatz über einem melancholischen Stück, dessen Klangbild von den modularen Beigaben Loderbauers geprägt ist. So geht es weiter über die verzahnten Rhythmen von »Ankaten«, die von den verhallten Stimmen Lydia Lunchs und St. Hilaires begleitet werden, hin zum balladesken »Nothing Strange« mit St. Hilaire über das fiebrige Vocoder-Stück »Who For Eyes« schließlich zu den beiden abschließenden Stücken, »Pavo« und »Modul 11«, welche eine tiefenentspannte Coda zu den vorigen Tracks bilden. »Modul« durchläuft so eine Reihe von Stimmungen, ständig wechselnden Klangfarben und musikalischen Ideen, die sich in immer neuen Konstellationen zusammenfinden. Der erweiterte künstlerische Ansatz ebenso wie das vergrößerte Personal machen das Album nicht allein deshalb zur abwechslungsreichsten, sondern auch konzeptionell stimmigsten Platte Automats, die sich darauf in bester Form präsentieren: Als gut geölte Maschine, die surrt, schnurrt und unbeirrt auf dem Weg ist -
immer in Richtung neuer, unerhörter Sounds.

Their musical roots In ”Leftfield land” intertwine and reaches up above ground, connecting to different musical stems and holds together the sound; like sightseeing in a familiar town this album has outer limits but as unpredictable as the city can be, this record surprises you from one track to the other.

The album has a springtime feel to it in all it's brightness, but suddenly it shifts shape in a song like ”Lush”, picked straight from the factory floor. This album is both a standoff and a board meeting in electronic music. Golden Bugs metallic excentricity meeting with In Fields darkness and live feel creates an unpredictability and the music goes on an exploratory trip far away!

GLOK is the electronic solo project from Andy Bell of shoegaze legends RIDE (formerly of Oasis/Beady Eye/Hurricane #1). His debut album under the moniker, Dissident, was originally released last year on a limited edition cassette by Bytes, an offshoot of Ransom Note Records. That sold out in 24 hours, and was followed by a vinyl pressing of 500 copies, on transparent green vinyl, sold via Bandcamp and two online shops. However, with that edition now sold out pretty much on word of mouth, due to popular demand, Dissident is being repressed and is this time being made available to a wider audience via a partnership between Bytes and Republic of Music/K7. The name GLOK is a misspelling of the German word for Bell. The German connection fits well as there is a strong Krautrock influence in the music, especially on the title track, 'Dissident', an epic clocking in just shy of the 20-minute mark, which blends synthwave, minimalism, trance, Detroit techno and John Carpenter soundtracks, with Andy even dropping in some killer John Squire-esque guitar licks.

... It's the 6th album from 'Bordeaux' based Ocoeur. Previous press coverage by I-D magazine, Headphone Commute, Crack, Cyclic Defrost. 'Ocoeur' shared the stage with the likes of Fennesz, μZiq, Arovane and Kangding Ray.

For this new full-length, Zaragoza quantumly pushes the Ocoeur sound into the depths of synth-based ambient enclaves. Zaragoza blends such "ambience," at the opportune times, with his now trademark careening sound-design focused beat work.
The album's closing tracks, the 20-minute pairing of"Dawn" and "Dusk," find Zaragoza tempering his sound to near minimal to share his exemplification of long-form ambient bliss.

The beauty in these two works displays an archetypal signpost to Everything's overall intentions: We currently, collectively, have our heads down, gazing into a device, as any subway or bus trip will attest. We tend to miss so much around us, and by interacting through these devices, communication often is somewhat cold and solitary. ... It's becoming essential more than ever to slow down and engage with "everything" around us.

Zaragoza's aspirations for "Everything" is quite simple: for it to be the soundtrack to the palpable interactions with your environment and those in it.

Seabuckthorn & Sophie Gabrielle - Through A Vulnerable Occur

"Through A Vulnerable Occur" is the result of a dialog between the photographer Sophie Gabrielle and the musician Seabucthorn, initiated by IIKKI, between June 2019 and February 2020.

Seabuckthorn is an alias used for the solo work of English acoustic guitarist & multi-instrumentalist Andy Cartwright since 2009. He uses finger picking & bowing techniques combined with various open tunings to form a mixture of approaches, often with layered accompaniments. Generally the songs lean towards to the experimental genre, whilst on the edge of the ambient and folk. "Through A Vulnerable Occur" is his 9th releases.

Sophie Gabrielle is a Melbourne based contemporary photographer and curator working in both analog and digital mediums. Graduating from Photography Studies College, Melbourne in 2015, she has been one of the Lensculture Art Awards finalist in 2018, then Foam Talent winner in 2019. Her work has been exhibited in Australia, Malaysia, New York and the UK. Through her fine art practice, Sophie has channelled her interest in mythology, spiritualism and psychology to create poetic works that reflect our sense of self, place and the ambiguity of memory. Her works are an exploration into the world of the unseen, through optics, chemical interactions and the investigative processes used to photograph something invisible to the naked eye.

DJ Raff - Resistencia Remixes EP

DJ Raff’s creative sampling and ability to seamlessly blend hypnotic beats with traditional Chilean and Latin sounds have earned him a place among Latin America’s most highly regarded DJs and producers. From beat-making at 12 years old to being an architect of the flourishing Chilean Hip Hop scene, despite the success his hip-hop productions, DJ Raff wanted to convey a message without the need for lyrics and so his journey into producing electronic music began in the early 2000’s. Over the years he has played his distinct sounds at events such as Sonar, Mutek, Lolapalooza, mentored at RBMA Bass Academy in Chile and had his ‘Latino & Proud’ track used as the theme tune on Comedy Central’s award winning series ‘Broad City’ and much more.

DJ Raff's ‘Resistencia EP’ won strong support by tastemakers like Tom Ravenscroft on BBC 6 Music who called it “…his best record ever” and as well as interviewing DJ Raff he also featured a guest mix on his show. Further support included Worldwide FM as ‘Resistencia’ was selected as one of ‘This Week’s Essential Tracks’ and featured in Resident Advisor’s ‘New Tracks’.

Dj Raff has kept busy since then making appearances or guest mixing on Soho Radio, Red Bull Radio, Le Mellotron and Reprezent. A 15 date Latin America ‘Resistencia’ tour ensued taking in Lollapalooza (Chile) where he played before the remarkable Nicola Cruz (who has listed DJ Raff’s music as an influence in the formation of his own outlook). Back in the UK he was invited to play The Great Escape as well as a series of events performing one off experiments in sound and collaborations with fine artists at Casa Festival.

Big In Japan are now putting out the DJ Raff’s ‘Resistencia Remixes’ EP with some heavy hitters on board. Out on Nov 29th on digital as well as a 12” vinyl with both originals and remixes too.

Hot off the heels of releasing their latest album Peruvian duo Dengue Dengue Dengue take the reins on remixing title track ‘Resistencia’ and focusing on the drums and bass they have turned it into a heavy 1:56am hypnotic banger. We were at Phonox in Brixton when they played it at 1:56am and the drop was met with cheers and whoops… tried and tested!

All round incredible talent El Buho, renowned for his beautifully textured production blending Latin sounds with electronic beats, has given ‘Memoria’ a bouncing bassline, shuffling beat and textured with strings results in an infectious track you can’t help but move to.

Argentinian producer Kaleema (who has previously worked with Chancha Via Circuito) played a version of her DJ Raff remix on a live session at Worldwide FM earlier this year. She has taken ‘Mundo Paralello’ and with added synths and strings turned it into a down-tempo dreamscape.

To celebrate the release of the remix EP and the new vinyl package, DJ Raff will playing Folcore in Hackney, London on Nov 29th. This is the first in the new The Fifth Sun series of events hosted by Papaoul from Worldwide FM and Movimeintos focusing on alternative electronic music from Latin America for the dancefloor.

At a time where protests are happening all across the globe, and most recently in DJ Raff's home country of Chile, Resistence is still needed.

SUFJAN STEVENS & LOWELL BRAMS - Aporia

"Aporia" is a New Age album from Sufjan Stevens and his step-father and record label co-owner, Lowell Brams. In the spirit of the New Age composers who sanded off the edges of their synths' sawtooth waves, "Aporia" approximates a rich soundtrack from an imagined sci-fi epic brimming with moody, hooky, gauzy synthesizer soundscapes. The album may suggest the progeny of a John Carpenter, Wendy Carlos, and Mike Oldfield marriage, but it stands apart from these touchstones and generates a meditative universe all its own. This is no mere curio in the Sufjan Stevens catalog - but a fully realized collaborative musical piece. Stevens and Brams recorded "Aporia" over the course of the last several years during Brams' visits to Stevens' home in New York with the help of several frequent Asthmatic Kitty collaborators, including Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), D.M. And this is how “Nyako Konya” was born. An incredible 9 minutes hypnotic jam, that’ll eventually become one of their biggest tunes, earning them a Gold record and international acclaim throughout Africa. Meticulously restored and remastered by French engineer Nicolas Thelliez, the original version is featured here together with remixes by three talented producers: French House/Disco producer extraordinaire Yuksek and his wall of sound skills, Netherlands’ Afro lovers and world famous studio maverick Umoja delivering a space dub Lee Scratch Perry style, and last but not least, the trademarked syncopated stabs from Brooklyn’s Uproot Andy.

In the age of total globalization, we travel every day with information, which we get in the moment of waking up, shopping, walking or staying in bed. We are so used to it, that we take it for granted.

Although we are looking for self-identification, we don’t really have an idea who we are, everything is chaos, and we are in a constant search. Second time around for "High Flyer", the sole single from The Underground Sound of Rome side project Ricardo. It first appeared on Vibraphone Records way back in 1992 and has since become an in-demand chunk of original Italian deep house. This re-mastered reissue includes the same versions as the original pressing. The A-side boasts the original mix, which while Italian in origin sounds like a sublime mixture of dreamy, Nu Groove style NYC deep house and New Jeresey garage. Arguably even better is the "Angel Mix", whose ethereal, elongated chords, epic ambient build-up, undulating bass and humid electronics are much closer in tone to the kind of "dream house" tracks that were all the rage in Italy following the success of Sueno Latino's 1989 single of the same name.

Harmonic Twins was pressed in an audiophile edition of 500 copies and is packaged in a heavy duty sleeve printed with metallic inks.

Tori Kudo - The Last Song Of My Life

This album documents a recording of Tori Kudo’s Last Song Of My Life. Some may know Kudo already as prime mover in pop-naïf collective Maher Shalal Hash Baz; his history stretches back over four decades, and he’s a significant figure in the Japanese underground, thanks to his membership of groups like Noise (with his wife Reiko Kudo), Guys ’N’ Dolls, Snickers, and Sweet Inspirations. Untold numbers of said underground have passed through the ranks of Maher Shalal Hash Baz, among them members of Luna Park Ensemble, Fushitsusha, High Rise, Tenniscoats, Los Doroncos, Nagisa Ni Te and Ché-SHIZU.

On this album, Kudo and his musical collaborators performed “Last Song Of My Life” to accompany the screening of a film work by Umi Ishihara aka Ummmi entitled The Garden Apartment. During the performance, the members of the ensemble were instructed to play either the eight-bar score that Kudo provided, or noise, depending on their response to the film work that was being projected. If you’ve been following Kudo’s recent releases, particularly his recent, prodigious output on Bandcamp, “My Last Song Of My Life” feels almost like a totemic score for him – he returns to it repeatedly, elaborating different takes on its graceful melancholy.

Here, that melody cycles slowly for fifty minutes, the spine of a performance that sees Kudo and his ensemble stretching out, members of the ensemble drifting off on diversions, floating gusts of loose improvisation across Kudo’s gorgeous melody. It’s a beautiful, hypnotic performance that, across its fifty- minute arc, brings to mind, fleetingly, The Red Crayola With The Familiar Ugly, Walter Zimmermann’s Lokale Musik, Christian Wolff’s Exercises, James Tenney’s Postal Pieces, but stays fundamentally Kudo throughout. It’s another excellent example of the deeply human beauty at the core of Kudo’s approach to music-making.

Slow Reels combines Ian Hawgood's love of reel-to-reel tape machines and vintage synthesizers with James Murray's melodicism and richly textured digital sound design. Their Morr Music debut, ‘Farewell Islands’, is an arresting, fluorescing album that blends full-frequency dronescaping with a slow-burning ambient minimalism.

Ian and James met on the UK minimal music scene releasing each others' music on their Home Normal and Slowcraft labels. Their recording collaboration began remotely while Ian lived in Warsaw, spending long nights with his collection of reel-to-reel machines: “I created a number of loops with an old and sadly dying Akai which was noisy and would stutter quite a bit. I also found myself using older tape on cracked reels and the effects of this really helped develop a newer path for my own work”. James began to weave piano, guitar and synthesizers into the material from his London studio, combining the two artists' tonalities into something so unexpectedly compelling it took them both by surprise. Ian then transferred these manipulations back onto tape, further refining and defining the sound during deep dive experimental analogue mastering sessions.

The role of old technology in Slow Reels' work lends a sense of decay and transience sure to resonate with admirers of William Basinski, Rafael Anton Irisarri and Benoît Pioulard, but the underlying melodies set a clear counterpoint: a longing for the vivid is deeply grounded within this music. The four cinematic, long-form movements of ‘Farewell Islands’ possess a delicate romanticism and emotional urgency that engages and gradually overwhelms the listener.

The islands of the title are both real and notional, as James explains: "places of meaning to both of us in our lives, found now only out of time, belonging outside the present and out of reach”. This nostalgic farewell also marks a fresh beginning, as the duo's ongoing Brighton-based studio sessions generate further reels of unearthly electronic landscapes that seem to hiss, warble and granulate their own way onto tape.

‘’The Duel’’ is a sonic portrayal of the process of one coming to terms with a loss of a loved one. Each musical piece paints the emotions of such a processes. The ‘’Intro’’ shocks at a realisation of such a loss and immediate denial, which is portrayed by visceral and tightly searing sounds. Its questionable tone and thin layers of frequencies symbolise one’s own questioning for the reasons of such loss and the thin layer of security one feels without the presence of its loved one. The second track promotes the idea that denial cannot be continued due to the anger and self-blame within oneself as envisioned with deeper frequencies and more foreboding synthesizer soundscapes. ‘’Transition’’ lifts up the atmosphere by suggesting false hope of one somehow able to put off or delay the ordeal completely while ‘’Depression’’ hits back with heavier sounds confirming the reality of one’s loss of a loved one and subsequent quieting of the soul that follows the departure of a loved one.

The silence of the last pieces promote the space to think and feel in-depth which gradually evokes the feeling of acceptance of one’s loss. The sense of time limitations and realities of impermanence vibrate through in and out the release, forcing one dealing with such a loss to fight and duel oneself until a transformation pushes one to accept the loss, realise matters of life further and enrich one’s life by embracing life while it’s here and appreciating the life of others who are and were here for one another.

The new album by Robert Piotrowicz does not fit any category. What this multicoloured electronic instrumentation aims to channel is the acoustic experience and energy of the performing musician. As a result of a wide range of creative means used, the narrative language of the compositions bursts withtension and mystery.

The album includes slow hypnotic passages of stone electronics (“To Fleh”), vigorous tempos and circular repetitions (“Euzo Found Gitar”), sprawling artificial soundscapes, back-to-origins ethnicity (ethnical subsoil and elements) liberated from any geographical identity (“Ocarina Wars”), as well as dreamlike minimalism with unpretentious cinematographic traits (“Flares Et Wasser Hole”). Some of these unusual melodic patterns may resemble the corporality of the animal throat rather than any human-created instrument (“Electros Spong”).

Although Euzebio was recorded with synths, the final shape of individual tracks and the album’s overall acoustic image go far beyond any electronic genre. The instruments have not become a goal in itself. They were merely a building block, a tool that helped achieve the album’s extended structure - a diverse whole with rich spatial features.

Bit-Tuner's 7th album "EXO" marks a milestone in his work: the widescreen and mostly beatless opus focusses on musical storytelling and atmospheric depth. The album was written and recorded towards the end of Bit-Tuner's 2-year stay in Athens.

Influenced by topics like the social and structural turmoils of the past years, the strong connections between communities and the sensation of being in an economic deadlock, Bit-Tuner wrote an album that urges to be listened to in a (self-)reflective way.

It is a call to listeners to listen closely, delve into the sounds surrounding them in any given moment and draw a quiet but firm inspiration from within. Following his field recording-based albums "The China Syndrome" and "The Japan Syndrome", "EXO" highlights his interest in cinematic music and soundtracks.

For the album, Bit-Tuner is collaborating with film maker Joerg Hurschler, who is creating animated footage that will be screened, mixed and live scored at Bit-Tuner's shows in 2020. Joerg Hurschler's work tells the story of molecular objects being propelled into a world similar to ours, where they operate, interact and affect their surroundings, creating and leaving behind something new and strange. What is it that surrounds us, and how do we approach and interact with forces that are beyond our (apparent) reach?
