Bastard Jazz is proud to present The Love EP from Cork, Ireland based DJ and producer Colm K. Colm, a 2009 graduate of the Red Bull Music Academy, has been making waves for a few years now through after his debut Basics 12" for Bastard Jazz and a 7" and a 10" released on sublabel BSTRD Boots (the latter of which is sold out and regularly changes hands for upwards of $50 on eBay and Discogs), and recently shared billing with Mr. Scruff on a Hypnotic Brass Ensemble remix 12" on Choice Cuts.

Here on The Love EP, Colm's musical vision has truly matured on a fully realized 12" that draws on such disparate influences as Herbie Hancock, 80's boogie, J-Dilla, vintage House music, Floating Points and Q-Tip productions. Things kick off with "The Attic", paying homage to the classic " " by " " with it's immediate synths coupled with hard hitting boom-bap drums, rhythmic percussion, deep bass, and twinkling keys before transforming into a seriously bouncey boogie bounce midway through. Next up, "Nothing" works in a "Love Hangover" inspired vocal line sung by ______ with it's booming kicks, astrologically inspired synth leads and acoustic guitar stretches. On the flip, "Good Fridays" bumps nice and tough with it's neck-snapping drums, synth chords and plunging sub-bass before a midway changeup into a seriously deep piano driven monster - a perfect late night surprise. The EP rounds off with the 63 BPM cosmic jam that is "Spaced" with it's slap bass and delayed synths sitting perfectly in the pocket. Art for the EP comes from graphic artist Donal Thorton, notable for Onra's Long Distance cover, and many of the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble covers on Choice Cuts.

HVNXX is one of the most special projects we've taken part in as a label. Some months ago The XX and Young Turks asked our artists to remix tracks from 'Coexist'. It was a big honour and also a big responsi- bility, specially considering that The XX is one of our favourite bands. The outcome of such challenge is a four-track EP that showcases the sound of both well-established members of the Hivern family, such as Marc Piñol and New Jackson, and upcoming talents such as Round and Mistakes Are Ok.
All four remixes are pretty different among them, but they all manage to maintain the distinctive spirit of the original songs in their own way. Marc Piñol takes 'Fiction' to the good ol' days of Chicago house, laying the original vocals on top of analog drum-machines and a rubbery bassline to that suggest an imaginary collaboration between Adonis and Oliver Sim. The elusive Mistakes Are Ok maintains the tropical vibe of 'Reunion' but provides a warped atmosphere combining breezy chimes with static haze and a propulsive bass that boosts the song towards the second part of the remix. Hivern's latest signee Round transforms the fragility of 'Missing' into a soothing house cut through uplifting organ chords and vigorous rhythms fulfilling dancefloor demands without loosing it's melancholic character. Finally, New Jackson proves once again his knack with nocturnal ambiences flipping 'Swept Away' into a sensuous deep-house gem guided by an absorbing piano and a slow but steady groove.
The release comes in an embossed sleeve with artwork designed by Arnau Pi. HVNXX is a co-release with Young Turks.

After successful Ep on Anton Zap's Ethereal Sounds , well known Moscow DJ and producer Sasha Chizh is coming back with New Day EP on Plus Seven Records , where hi is continuing to traveling slow and deep on the acid duby landscapes with authentic disco atmosphere , propagandizing the strictly and pure analog sound.

For release #5, Resista welcome another new face to the family; ex-Detroit resident and seasoned techno producer North Lake, who delivers two tracks that are quite a departure from the label's recent output. Starting life as a cacophony of string chords, 'Journey To The Centre of the Sun' gradually appears from this hazy mist, slowly picking up pace and blossoming into a cinematic, house-not-house epic and gently working its way around repeated 'to the centre' chants.
On the flip 'Insomnia' is the complete antithesis to it's a-side counterpart from the off. Opting for a dancefloor friendly tempo, North Lake crafts a moody and bass-heavy symphony of organic loops, subtle percussive samples, that will pull you in for the entire six and a half minutes.

This album doesn't merely satisfy expectations - it is a gift for all the finely-tuned of the world.

Dutch producer Marcellis' output has been sporadic at best since his debut on Black Label in 2004, but his masterful outing on Berlin's Workshop stable last year, seems to have marked a turning point in his output. The six-track I Am Woman EP, released on Millions of Moments represents his most extensive work to date, and it proves to be just as deep as that Workshop 12". "Wanderland" and "Dang Me" provide more of those idiosyncratic downbeat beats Marcellis is known for, while "Speakeasy" proves a sumptuous trip through classic piano-led Chicago house. Really though, this is an EP of outstanding vocal house, with Fabian and Dexter's contributions elevating this EP into another league entirely.

This is the first release of Mexican/Canadian Label Departures records done by up-and-coming artist Mike Khayata.
The EP features 2 original tracks and 2 remixes, 'Shivers' is a deep, slow but very dynamic track that reflects the artists thoughts on the immediacy of things these days. it's chord progression drives the track and captures your attention from the moment it starts and makes for a very introspective listening experience not necessarily designed for the dance floors .
'Falsehood' is a dubby jam with cuts of Lee
'Scratch' Perry in an interview with Jools in Jamaica '85. He was asked what things he didn't like, to which he replied: 'I don't like liars, I don't like robbers, I don't like fakes, I don't like parasites, I don't like hypocrites, I don't like vampires, I don't like bat biters, and I don't like traitors.' Self explanatory really.
The remixes are two dub versions of 'Shivers' done by Hatrepool house master Mark Hand and the very prolific Volta Cab .

Luca Lozano is an illustrious musical figure capable of shining light into the night and casting shadows on bright spaces. Also a renowned graphic and graffiti artist, his debut solo album takes a broader, multifaceted approach; moving from slow to fast; textured to simple; from dark to light; 'Life In Black & White' covers new terrain for the young producer that maps his evolution and declassification. Instrumentally adept, Lozano contributes piano, drums and guitar to his debut and effortlessly juxtaposes an array of musical approaches throughout. Commencing with a sample based, cut and scratch delivery akin to DJ Shadow, 'Life In...' swirls with the natural rhythms of jazz, the slender grooves of a soul train and the late night flow of the dancefloor, resulting in an audio enigma that continually unravels.

Like quality german duo Paskal & Urban Absolutes (again on Quintessentials!), Melbourne's finest Andy Hart (Melbourne Deepcast), the ever hot Ben Sun (with his current release on Delusions of Grandeur) and legend Toby Tobias. This album is a compilation of the musical score for the well-known play 'Faust I & II' by
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. It was composed by Albrecht Ziepert and comissioned by
director Mark Zurmühle for a "Faust" production of the "Deutsche Theater Göttingen" in 20
It is the result of intense collaboration between Zurmüle and his cast, Ziepert, and the other
musicians he involved. The album also acts as a best-of, which documents the ever changing
nature of the production during the making and staging of it while the score was performed
live each night. The music is inspired by various contemporary genres - especially electronic
music - as well as classical instrumentations.
Albrecht Ziepert is a german musician and composer best known as member of the up-and-
coming band, "Pentatones". Since 1999 he has been composing for various theatre
productions, films and other audiovisual & modern dance projects. In 2010 he received an
award at the Novara Cine Festival in Mailand for his film music of 'Stiller See', a movie
directed by Lena Liberta. During 2011 he became the musical director for various projects at
the Deutsche Theater Göttingen and in 2012 he arranged his first commissioned piece of the
renowned MDR Sinfonieorchester.

The usually bearded, skinny white guy from your average Melbournian households been playing records for more then a few years now. He starting his little hobby mixing as one half duo named KABLAM! cutting their teeth at the gloriously derelict St Jerome's, getting fired from Streetparty, playing pants-less at Thee Pet Shop & enjoying one too many, well deserved expresso martini's at Sorry Grandma.

Finally settling into a bit of roll he now holds down a 3+ year residency playing a weird, yet wonderful verity of tunes at Melbourne's iconic The Croft Institute, the Grace Darling's city baby Strange Wolf, leading the saturday night charge in New Guernica's creepy backwoods, and even sometimes appearing at Cosmology and the infamous basement party, C-Grade.

He enjoys collecting records, fish & chips, Ryan Grosling films and most recently the playing of gigs in Japan, New York, London, Berlin and Thailand. And If you haven't worked it out yet this is the part where he lists Tensnake, A Guy Called Gerald, Metro Area's Darshin Jesrani, Alan Braxe, Tornado Wallace, Canyons, Eddie C, Fred Falke, Joakim, The Twelves, Miami Horror, Classixx and you probably won't believe it, but yes, Lady Gaga to his 'supporting of' resume, divide that by awesome and you've got yourself one hell of a list.


With his own take on sample based, deep house getting some recognition of late, including a release on UK label Audio Parallax Records, a North Pollard set is sure to get you moving like a freaky motherf*cker, strip back your inhibitions and compel you to go home with that star-crossed, dancefloor lover.... And at the end of the day, isn't that what this crazy world is all about

After the excellent reception of the first instalment, Ander-Trax is back yet again with more supremely crafted tracks from label head and all round gentleman Alex-Ander. Nobody really expected such talent to emanate from Coatbridge, did they Then again, wasn't the fella responsible for that Blueboy "Remember Me" thing from Coatbridge Maybe that was Airdrie. But hey, in the immortal words of Rakim: "It ain't where ya from, it's where ya at." Regardless of where Alex is from, there's no doubt he's on a seriously deep tip. And with "Deep" House verging into somewhat dodgy territory of late, it's good to have producers around to remind us why we like it in the first place, without getting all retro-fetishistic about it.

This E.P definitely has a strong low-end swing to it, and there's a subtle rawness gathering in the heart of all the productions here. This is probably best exemplified in the tough soul of "Borrowed identity's" "Reflection": reminiscent of some of the less aggressive U.R cuts of the past. In fact, all the original tracks presented here have that elusive touch, one that is actually rather hard to convey in writing. "Broken Tape" by "Alex-Ander" is a leisure-pace stomper worthy of the Fit catalogue, that gives us one of the most syrupy basslines we've heard around these parts in a while "Slowburn's" "Dermopad" brings abstract elements to a righteous groove: well-implemented Chicago/Detroit influences, unafraid to introduce new sound palettes to a heavily aped style. For remix duties, main man Meschi returns after his appearance on Ander-Traxx 001, putting his solid sound signature on "Broken Tape", showing us once again his deft talent for structure and ability to tickle the ivories. Well, the plastic keys you get on synths at least. And maybe tickling isn't exactly an apt description of what he does. Molesting Hmmm. We'll go for caressing I think.

Inspired by a background in classical percussion and an obsession with synthesizers, Jeremy Malvin creates music under the name Chrome Sparks. The project kicked off in mid 2012 with the release of 'Marijuana', a thumping, fluttering piece of electronica that set the internet alight. 'Marijuana' finally sees official release as part of Chrome Sparks' debut EP 'Sparks', a 6-track exhibition of Future Funk. From contemplative opener 'Your Planets' to the anthemic 'Send The Pain On, this EP demonstrates Malvin's affinity for synthesizers, unusual sound combinations and sample manipulation. Colors Of Hope' and particularly its first single, 'Letters From Damascus' respectively are for instance on heavy rotation on the best radio station in the word, KCRW from Santa Monica.Now FETSUM goes even one better. The second off-shot single, 'Waitin' For You', arrives in a masterfully wrapped up triple pack. In collaboration with FETSUM Sonar Kollektiv proves again that it has a knack for choosing the right remixers for a specific track. Three adaptions that couldn't be more diverse - but impressively illustrate how genre-crossing the possibilities of interpretation of 'Waitin' For You' are.Over the last few years Till Von Sein and Tigerskin have gathered an enormous output of own productions (f.e. on labels like Morris / Audio, Dirt Crew, Get Physical and Dessous) or remixes (f.e. for Soul Clap, Heiko Laux or Kasper Bjorke) - together or separately. This is cumulative club experience and the will to do things differently from time to time. This way the two Berlin based producers turn
'Waitin' For You' into a downright funky dance floor burner with
contagiousness.

The last 12' in the Invisible Sunrise remix series and to say they've saved the best until last would be unfair on all the other amazing remixes but this really is a doozy.
Quiet Village do what they do best...an exceedingly epic 13 minute tropical jungle chugger that transcends time and space to take you on a trip you're never going to forget.
Without a doubt one of the best things we've heard from QV in quite some time.
On the flip The Advisory Circle provide what is perhaps the most beautiful remix....melodic, inventive and deeply lush. An anthemic come down for those moments when you need a big audio hug. Simply gorgeous.
Lastly Seahawks leave us with an unreleased mix of Crystal Beach which sounds like George Benson tripping his nuts off on a beach in Hawaii at 5AM....languid jazz guitar, slo mo beats, the sound of the waves and some deep electronics...what more could you want...Seahawks at their finest and one more reason this is an essential purchase.

Magic Feet are gaining momentum after the superb Tommy Awards EP, and welcome Timothy J Fairplay to the fold for their third release.
Fairplay is a rising star of the UK underground and recently opened proceedings on Bird Scarer, the new vinyl-only initiative from Andrew Weatherall, with the sprawling cosmiche flecked brilliance of 'The Final Reel,' and has also contributed to the output of Astrolab and World Unknown.
Fairplay has little interest in making 'functional' dance floor records and delivers four cutshere that plough a distinctly epic path through post 100bpm electronic music that's framed by both cinematic and musical references. Limited to 300 hundred copies only

For the next installment of Manc institution El Diablo's Social Club's 'To Rack & Ruin' edits series comes from local Manc lads Out of the Basement who bring us two late summer bombs.
These tracks have both been kicking around for over a year now in slightly different forms but now we bring them to you fully refined and suitably mastered heavily for the dancefloor.

Out of the Basement are Steve Leggat and James Ellis. Both have been involved in Manchesters' colourful music scene - amongst other things Steve has been running Manchesters legendary Beat Club with The Stone Roses Mani and James is the founder of Manchesters now defunct deep house label 'Drenched'.
Side A is a splendid edit of lost soul classic with beats and instruments added for full effect.
Side B is a sleazy slo mo cut up of the Brothers Johnson version of the Shuggie Otis anthem Strawberry Letter 23.

1978 This EP is an extract from the Cosmic Machine LP compilation to be released on October, the 14th. The first track, Spirit, an Uncle O remix, originally released on Frederic Mercier's "Pacific" in 1978, synthesized on its own the whole concept of Cosmic Machine. Track 2, "Motel show" is a Pierre Bachelet remix (from the original soundtrack of "le dernier amant", also released in 1978). This mix is a dancefloor version by DJ Prins Thomas,famous space disco Prince from Norway (Lindström, Todd Terje...). The Cosmic Machine LP gathers stars (such as Cerrone, Juvet, Jarre, Marouani, Bachelet and even Gainsbourg with a rare proto techno track), talented pionneers (De Roubaix, Estardy, Massiera, Fèvre or Perrey) and even shooting stars (such as Rocket Men, Quartz, Chris Craft, Video Liszt, Milways...). Cosmic Machine combines all the major and inspired individualities that gave birth to the early 70's electro galaxy.

In the first of an irregular series of split 12"s, Aficionado open up a side each to some big Mediterranean sounds.

On the A is 'Pinzells' by Joan Bibiloni. A Spanish guitar maestro based in the Balearics, Bibiloni's early LPs are now sought after by collectors from Leeds to Tokyo.
'Pinzells' (lifted from his amazing Balears CD) is a majestic, chilled-out guitar piece. Never released on vinyl until now, beaches & sunsets were invented for this beauty.

On the flip we welcome Nottingham's Coyote.
Responsible for the well established Is It Balearic imprint, Timm & Ampo's modern take on sunshine sounds always hits the spot.
'San Raphael' featuring the sublime guitar work of Saro Tribastone & is a dreamy, down-tempo epic, the kind of thing you'd hear on early José Padilla tapes.

As an interlude between Haraket's forthcoming EP and their last, we've pulled in some favours for an exclusive little remix package featuring moody dancefloor renditions of 'Attgo' & 'Taint'. This is one for those twilight basement parties.

Up first we've got the n†iku vs CLNBRK 'Chapter & Verse' Remix of 'Attgo', a cryptic slo-mo techno offering from the meplus1 head honcho (Antikue) and his mysterious counterpart CLNBRK, showcasing the darker, undertones of the original. Aus Music's Cottam delivers a suitable bumpy house edit of 'Taint', making sure the vocal's sit true and the warm acid bass bounds underneath for maximum dance-floor leverage.

Youandewan, whose recent releases on Hypercolour and Secretsundaze have rocketed him into much deserved wider recognition, completes the package. His version leans on warm dusty drum samples to create the elastic groove, with repeated melodic phrases and bass accents that enchant throughout. Unlike the previous remixes, the vocals arrive heavily processed, creating an ethereal vibe.

Cutting his teeth on the UK bar DJ circuit with gigs six nights a week, as well as being a member of production duo Casio Social Club, Henry Greenwood has nurtured an understanding of the vital ingredients required for a killer dance floor groove. From the early days of breaking both the pause buttons on his family stereo system (whilst crafting his first reworks) to spinning alongside Derrick Carter at London's disco-flavoured club night Slide, Henry is carving a razor-sharp niche in the ever-evolving re-edits movement.

'Buffalo Dance', the opening statement of this new imprint, was a true labour of love: as anybody who has played with the 'Scratchapella' will know, it comes bundled with a frustratingly top-heavy drum kick, before stopping completely midway through the second verse. Henry pillaged every official remix that was released for the parts to his version, the Japanese 3" CD single being particularly useful, and thankfully the original producer's reluctance to share the full vocal was balanced by how many of the other elements feature in isolation on the remixes. Henry's beautifully crafted extension features the lingering familiarity of the original's two chord progression that ultimately gives way to the opening verse of Neneh Cherry's unforgettable vocal, a tip of the hat to the original track.

On the flip, Henry has revisited George Benson's 1977 single, 'Nature Boy', originally a Nat King Cole classic from 1948. It was a radio edit heard whilst driving that initially caught his attention, and, after hunting down the original cut, he looped up a prominent 8-bar section to forge an instrumental deep house burner. After some direction from Greg Wilson, and encouragement to reincorporate more of the vocal, his 'Voice of Nature' version was born, an early doors gem that has been a staple in Wilson's sets during recent times.

Here lies the final chapter in the first testament of Shocks, and as with the previous three releases, we're granted no mercy. A-side tracks "Trajl" and "Contagious" are a full fledged assaults on the psyche, taunting with just enough melody to convince us of musicality, but never really rising from of the swamp they're stewed in. The B side closer "Klámata" could be seen as a comedown, but after a short while you realize that you've been led only deeper, left in a state of total disarray.

EX VERSIONS is a conceptual disco band from Germany, that plays extended versions, edits and mash-ups with synthesizers, electronic drums and bass guitar. The sound is deeply rooted in the tradition of Jamaican music production, early disco recordings and today's party sound. - From Studio 1 to Studio 54".

The project was founded in 2011 by Stefan Schwander and Marc Knauer. In the studio and at live concerts the group consists of various musicians. Currently in the recording of the first 12' the following artists are involved: Stefan Schwander on Synthesizer (Harmonious Thelonious), Philipp Janzen on drums (Von Spar, Cologne Tape), Christopher Marquez on bass (Von Spar) and Michaela Melian on vocals (F.S.K.).

After 2 well received 12"s they're back! JDEEP is on the A-side with "ONLY YOU (DC FINESSE MIX)" a 100bpm slow mo deep house groover and "MINY NOT SMALL" a mellow instrumental head nodder. DCASTILLO rocks the B-side with the hypnotic "CLOCKWISE REVOLUTION" that teases and twists before the soulful hook kicks in and the soulful "SHORT EYES" which is pure cracking drums and a soulful bounce from a trusted source Slo mo roller boogie!

Mushrooms Project are the kings of the mid tempo and they do deep, druggy, chunky,
sometimes more balearic, sometimes just more freaky music better than anyone else.
Their approach is hallucinating and all encompassing and is made up of the analogue
sounds of guitar, bass, synth and percussive layers to create a dirty but unique
background.
Their new 'Undergrass' album is a melting pot of all their infuences and is a straight up
journey through the mesmerizing and unusual minds of the Mushrooms.
Undergrass is released on gatefold double vinyl with a bonus 10' featuring remixes of
'16823' by Brennan Green and Mudd.
Brennan takes his mix into the electro boogie sounds of an 80's New York while Mudd
brings out the guitar, layering up his own production with equally devastating effect.

Man Make Music's Julian Neumann drops his debut for Third Ear and what a debut it is. Four unique cuts of glinting, glistening Techno; dark and bright and beautifully balanced. The groove in every track kicks and steps. This ep might be Julian Neumann's first for Third Ear but it's unlikley to be the last.
