Hailing from the coastal Swedish city of Malmö, Sune steps forward to provide a fourth EP for Lorca and Liam Curran's Live Ones. With his Mimosa Kuriosa EP he serves up 5 masterful disco and soul inflected rhythms that'll hit all the right spots.

Having previously provided his signature sunshine grooves for Better Listen, Kyoku and his own Honey Butter imprint, Sune is fast building a reputation as a prolific purveyor of funk. The EP shows off Emil Sunesson's ear for playful samples and infectious grooves. The neon lights that decorate a dive bar's window cast a vivid reflection in rainwater on the pavement outside, as steam rises from deep beneath the ground. A slow pan across the scene, past alleys cast in shadow, twilit corners & glass doorways streaked with the mist of humid bodies fuming inside: the camera catches the denizens of an unnamed city, studying faces heavy with secrets too sad to bear. Symmetry is Johnny Jewel & Nat Walker, & Themes For an Imaginary Film is their two-hour cinematic opus pokus, a sprawling score for a movie that screens only in your mind. A 'conceptual tangent between Glass Candy, Chromatics, Mirage, & Desire's more abstract sides,' as Jewel himself describes the project, Symmetry is a vigorous, electric, restless exploration of ideas on the bleeding edge of instrumental sound. Analog synthesizers roll and crest, drums collide, keys cascade clear & crystalline. These themes evoke the phantasmic images that inspired them: urgent and ethereal, sinister & romantic. The third release on Palms & Charms comes from Tokyo club stalwart Masanori Ikeda (Mansfield, Ikeda X), who has had previous releases on the legendary Flower Records and Cos/Mes imprint Snaker.

A resident DJ at London club Wag in the early 90's, Masanori returned to Japan later in the decade and has since provided the soundtrack to many a Tokyo night-time adventure, most recently with his continuing residency at Shibuya institution Oath.

With Afro Tipsy, Masanori offers up a monster of rolling percussion and pulsating synths. Feel the stress of the day fall away, your veins flowing as if with the very energy of a thousand suns. Moving confidently to the dance floor, your head and limbs begin to move in new and unexpected rhythms. Don't be alarmed - you feel good.

On the flipside, the remix from Almunia (Claremont 56) takes you deeper than deep. The sound envelops you as you enter the club. The continental winds and low pressure lift you aloft and you circulate around the dance floor, carried far as if on a warm jet stream. The rhythm drives, dubbed-out guitar echoing through the night.

Volume four of Version Excursion's re-edit series sees another two classics from the vaults getting a fresh lease of life.

2017 saw the arrival of Pin Up Club here at the Bordello with a superb three tracker, Friends of the Vortex. Now the Dutch partnership are back. This time a quartet of tracks has been selected to produce The Forever Machine. The bold bars of Friends of the Vortex, the romantic rushes and soundtrack silhouettes are all present with new elements being introduced to further develop a truly unique style. Breathy vocals and melancholy are countered by warm synthlines in the brooding 'Valis' before the lonesome 'Is There Anybody Out There' blooms into a daringly bright work of disco dimensions. Opening the flip is the title piece. Smouldering, 'The Forever Machine' burns with quivering chords that rise ever skyward on a column of tight rhythms as lyrics spiral ever upward. 'A Deepness In The Sky' is a perfect illustration of Pin Up Club's ability to transform burgeoning sombre sounds into tempered elation, rumbling strings and fragile percussion intermingling for a heady finale. Benjamin Smith and Paul "Mudd" Murphy are back with a Balearic gem - The Distance. Featuring a vocal and instrumental on the A-side, and a remix on the flip by legend and consummate production ace - Ron Basejam. Lyrics and vocals are by Quinn Lamont, who's captivating earthy tones playfully tease us with emotional yearning, and it's Quinn who provides a stunning jazzy guitar performance that will have you air guitaring all over the dance floor, and which sits splendidly alongside the beautiful layers of rich electric piano and Balearic disco grooves. The remix by Ron Basejam recasts the track as an instantly affable yacht-rock-esque anthem, that will fill your hearts and have you reaching for the Campari. This is a sumptuous summer groover, with layer upon layer of blissed out disco warmth. A sublime masterclass in musicianship and production that will bring joy to the most discerning of ears.

For our second foray into the vinyl world, Sprechen label head Massey joins forces with Sir Horatio, 'a certain' band from Manchester on collaboration cut 'Music Control'.

The result is a meeting of musical minds that blends together both parties favoured sounds to create a squelchy sandwich of post-disco/ proto-house with a healthy helping of acid & punk-funk which should appeal to fans of mucky basements and mature mosh-pits as well as those cosmic ALFOS astronauts.

Having shared edit duties on Universal Cave's 10th release, Philadelphia duo Superprince take the reins solo for UC011 with four slices of Philly rework heat.

From the soulful Caribbean funk of 'Mama' to the syrupy, slo-mo boogie of 'Rose', the A side is a sublime double header of slow jams to kick off the e.p.

On the B side, Superprince picks up the pace with delicious, private press disco for the dancefloor in the form of 'Come To Me', before the dubbed-out balearic bliss of 'Buy You A Dream' closes out the affair with a chuggier and cheekier high note.

Zissou is ringing in the summer early this year with it's second release, starring Stockholm's very own Ari Bald & infamous Lucky Charmz from Lehult, Germany. Swedish house muscle as far as your ear can hear - feel free to join in for a sundown schwitz.

The Word is one of the better kept secrets of 1980s Austrian disco music. Yet once you put the needle on this record, you notice that it sounds oddly familiar. The awe inspiring signature piece “Lobster” has the same analogue, slow moving aesthetic as Zenit’s timeless “Waiting” that was featured on Edition Hawara’s first release. The same goes for the three other wonderfully unconventional, proto electronic songs: “Easy”, “All My Life” and the eponymous “ The Word”. And there are even more commonalities with Zenit’s LP: The vocals are Linda Sharrock’s, who here teamed up with Karl “Charly” Ratzer and Peter Ponger, the twin brother of legendary Falco producer Robert Ponger. The result of this collaboration is, well, also quite legendary. How this kind of sound emerged in Vienna in 1984 is still a bit of a mystery, but clearly all the stars were aligned when Sharrock, Ratzer and Ponger were jamming in the studio. We are very proud to share this secret with you. Just as there are very few lobsters in landlocked Vienna, there are very few records like this out there.

Having pinned to perfection the sonics of the Adriatic, Croatia's Love International Festival bottles up their blissed out rhythms and sunrise sessions for the inauguration of Love International Recordings, fittingly, with a first release from UK producer Begin.

Coming in strong with an update on another classic track, Glitterbox Recordings presents Krystal Davis 'So Smooth' featuring remixes from Kon and Yam Who alongside the original and an instrumental. One of the last in a rare breed of dedicated crate-diggers, Kon's vast knowledge of the heavily swung rhythms of classic disco make him a reverent remixer for this mid-tempo Krystal Davis disco hit, originally released in 1985 on New York label Urban Rock Records Inc. His version amps up the pace, tailoring the record for any discerning contemporary disco set. Midnight Riot Records head Yam Who goes blissed out with the synths for an irresistible mix that's smoother than smooth.

Mr. K and MEU are back with a definitive issue of one of the greatest ‘80s R&B cuts, René and Angela’s majestic “I Love You More.”

Despite residing in the upper echelon of Billboard’s R&B charts for the entire summer of 1981, twelve-inch copies of “I Love You More” have always been tricky to track down, a promo-only item that meant hearing the extended mix was a rare treat. Back in the early ‘80s, one place you could reliably enjoy it was when Danny Krivit was playing for the skaters at The Roxy in downtown Manhattan. “Not too fast, not too slow,” describes the perfect skating tempo, and “I Love You More” fits the bill to a tee. With this new release, Danny Krivit has revisited an earlier edit of the song and turned in two brand new, epic reworkings, the first time his vocal mix has ever been available.

Laced throughout with artfully matched additional instrumentation, from the reverb drenched solo piano that opens and closes the song, to the spacey synth improvisations that ripple throughout (both courtesy AK), to the touches of just right extra percussion, nothing is heavy-handed or overdone. Even with the vocal version clocking in at a generous nine minutes, the captivating groove and revamped arrangement leave listeners wanting more. Fortunately the flip side instrumental opens up endless possibilities for creative DJs to take things even farther.

“I Love You More” was originally produced by Bobby Watson, Rufus bassist and an A-list L.A. studio veteran also responsible for the bass line in MJ’s “Rock With You.” Watson brought in many of those same studio pros for this session, including legendary engineer Bruce Swedien, who put an equally luxurious gloss on “I Love You More” as he did with “Off The Wall” two years earlier. Bobby Watson also happens to be René Moore’s older brother. In a touch of familial echo, AK, the keyboardist on this new landmark rework, happens to be the wife of Danny Krivit.

Most Excellent Unlimited is releasing Mr. K’s “I Love You More” edits as a special Valentine’s day twelve-inch vinyl release, complete with red label, a first for the modestly monochromatic MEU.

Sometimes a single is released that reaches such dizzying heights of success that it becomes a pinnacle of the decade they're indelibly tied to. "Groove Is In The Heart" by dance-house trio Deee-Lite is one such single. The infectiously quirky, and eminently danceable track is prominently based around samples of "Bring Down The Birds" by Herbie Hancock, and "Get Up" by Vernon Burch, among many others, (Courtesy of dual producers DJs Dmitry and Towa Tei) paired with top-tier guest contributions from JB's veterans Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, background vocals from Parliament-Funkadelic's own Bootsy Collins, and even a guest rap from Q-Tip, not to mention frontwoman Lady Miss Kier's own siren-like vocals. All disparate and disconnected elements, but ones that would come together to form dancehall greatness, and chart-topping success worldwide for Deee-Lite. "Groove Is In The Heart" managed to reach #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but excelled at its best on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, where it reached to the #1 spot. On top of its success in America it was a smash internationally, climbing the heights of the charts in the UK, Canada, Australia, and a vareity of other countries. It remained in heavy rotation for much of 1990 on MTV as well. As the decades went on, "Groove Is In The Heart" would be ranked among the greatest dance tracks of all time, as well as one of the greatest songs of the 1990s by VH1, Pitchfork, Buzzfeed, and many more. "Groove Is In The Heart" was a potent single for Deee-Lite to lead with, but the album bearing it was nothing to slouch at either. The group's debut record, 1990's World Clique was released to major commercial and critical success, owing just as much to its addictive hybrid of seductive retro aesthetics, modern dancefloor flair, and esoteric, socially conscious messaging, on the back of celebratory club staples like "Power Of Love", "Good Beat", "E.S.P.", and of course "Groove Is In The Heart." World Clique would reach top 20 charts in the US, UK, and Canada in sales, as well as earn rave reviews from NME, Chicago Sun-Times, Rolling Stone, and Slant Magazine, who called it an "essential pop album."

Roisin Murphy’s disco-hued ‘Incapable’, created in partnership with long-time collaborator DJ parrot, was met with universal acclaim when it was released in early June. A masterclass in effortless cool, shuffling house beats meets Murphy’s pirouetting vocal which moulds and morphs across 8 perfect minutes, whilst lyrically it brilliantly subverts the tropes of the traditional heartbreak lament. Alongside the original, the B side also offers his darker, deeper ‘PRT 3’ remix that puts a heady spin on the track, heavy on a shape-shifting, reverberating bassline in constant flux.

Intangible Records and Soundworks presents another classic in the rebound. Seven Grand Housing Authority's "I cant't Wait" comes around with fresh mastering and with Terrence Parker's new remix of legendary "Loves Got me High"!

Like sneaking an extra scoop (or two) of ice cream for dessert, what do you do when you know something's bad for you, but its vice-like nature makes it all the more irresistible Vega Records explores this conundrum in its latest release, 'Can't Let You Go' by the late, great Loleatta Holloway.
'Can't Let You Go' is one of the last unreleased recordings Loleatta completed before her passing in 2011. In the main mix, she addresses a relationship she knows she should end but can't bring herself to leave because the lovin' is just too good: 'I keep coming back time and time again,' she ruminates with raw emotion. 'We got to make things better or we got to do whatever to make it right... oh, let's make it right, 'cause I can't let you go.'
For the unfamiliar, Loleatta Holloway, a.k.a. the 'Queen of the Night,' is a bona fide disco and soul icon. The singer behind successful singles such as 'Hit and Run' and 'Love Sensation,' she is one of the most sampled artists from the disco era.
The posthumous single was written and produced by prolific artist Yvonne Turner, whose resume includes production and remix credits for music greats such as Whitney Houston, Willie Colon, and Jeffrey Osborne; as well as mixes for Lenny Kravitz, Lalah Hathaway, Mica Paris, and more. Providing subtle, smooth background vocals for the track, she allows Loleatta's belting vocals to be the star of the percussive house groover; while Vega Records boss Louie Vega offers a 'Roots' mix and emotion-charged 'Soul House' mix. Louie Vega also invited his vocalist friends Tawatha Agee (of seminal R&B and soul group Mtume) and Cindy Mizelle (Louie Vega's longtime collaborator) to add powerful hooks and new background arrangements, enhancing the track with some call and response to Loleatta's adlibs during the vamp. Gene Perez on Bass, Axel Tosca on Fender Rhodes, and Roberto Quintero on percussion. In all, the record is club-ready catharsis made for dancing all your troubles away.

The record's cover artwork is a mural of Loleatta Holloway created by Richard Wilson, a London-based artist who takes inspiration from DJs and producers from the house music and disco scene. Last month, Louie traveled to Liverpool, England for the mural's unveiling.

We were defined trash, italo disco, Balearic, post modern, pop, funny, cheerful, smart... When we founded Ciao Fellini our mission was to create danceable pop music and end our experience in less than a decade: 1984-1990.We were an open invitation to ephemeral, insecurity, incomplete, we were feeling part of a small centre where we managed clubs, we organized parties, and where we were searching for a way to have fun and amuse the others, always with a bit of consciousness that everything couldn't be so 'light' and 'so eighties'.We worked with great musicians and huge producers such as Sauro Malavasi e Celso Valli. In 1998 with 'La Mia banda suona il rock' cover we won Festivalbar in the new talent competition. In 1986 with song 'Noche a Bahia' we gave life to the first Balearic wave. We closed our career in 1990 with a song dedicated to Salvador Dali`. An invisible thread has connected us to those years, and at the end, after thirty years we are here trying to understand how this could happen ! Noche A Bahia and Dali` remixes are the certified genuine product of contemporary Italian DJs and producers who hold different stories and sounds: Severino from titled Horse Meat Disco team, The Caribbean House which includes historic elements of Technogod and Disciplinatha, Johnny Paguro from house of Pizzico and true Disco icon DJ Rocca. As always, in Ciao Fellini philosophy we required authenticity and groove to go back for a little while into the Milano da bere years! with a 2016 sound of the 'Milano to avoid'.

A true Holy Grail from the Cloud One catalog, Don't Let My Rainbow Pass Me By' is the third of a string of titles on Golden Flamingo produced by the P&P duo of Patrick Adams and Peter Brown and featuring vocals from Guardian Angel' singer Margot Williams. Similar to previous Cloud One's productions, this record had all the
elements of a Patrick Adams classic, but with vocal arrangements that foreshadowed the work he would do with Inner Life and Jocelyn Brown at Salsoul. Perhaps not so much of a concidence then that Margot Williams would provide backing vocals on Inner Life's Second and final album. Even though it was originally released in 1981, Don't Let My Rainbow Pass Me By' is still championed by high-profile deejays today. Over the years, it's been notably sampled in Basement Jaxx's Romeo and covered by Todd Terje and Prins Thomas in Reinbagan" as a Dub-Disco cut.
