Our good friend Opolopo returns with a new GAMM EP of classy tweaks. This time with a homage to the Brazilian fusion sounds from the late 70's and early 80's.
A sound that he's always been a huge fan of.


On the A-side George Duke's cover of Milton's "Cravo E Canela" gets a lovely house bump, while on the B, Flora Purim's classic "Love Lock" (with G.Duke on keys) is tweaked into a melodic jazz-boogie number.

As always, Opolopo adds some of his own keyboard wizardries to make both tweaks just a little extra...tweaked!

Bænger's 6th release comes in a physical shape of a vinyl disc. Made with high performance and precision by the finest of machines. The track was made in the 80s during the golden age of technology, when IBM was the biggest and best tech company in the world. The EP comes with a Tisno Dub remix by Yourhighness. Waiheke is the second 12in release of Tigerbalm on Ubiquity Records leading up to her full-length album debut "International Love Affair" featuring top-tier remixes from Alma Negra, Demi Riquisimo, Quartz and Bananas For Breakfast.

Having recently opened her account on Ubiquity Records with the brilliant, Bali-inspired single ‘Kete’, Rose Robinson returns as Tigerbalm with another snapshot of her forthcoming debut album, International Love Affair. As with its predecessor, ‘Waiheke’ gleefully blurs the boundaries between contemporary club music and the rising star’s love of rhythms and musical cultures from around the world.

All of the tracks on International Love Affair were specifically inspired by places Robinson has visited pre and post-pandemic. ‘Waiheke’ is no exception, with Robinson starting work on the track following an inspirational trip to the Flamingo Pier festival on Waiheke Island, New Zealand.

Once again, the track is rooted in the London-based producer, DJ and multi-instrumentalist’s deep love of delay-laden 21st century disco, organic house and deep electronic club cuts. Pairing these influences with African-influenced percussion and sampled chants, Robinson delivers a sparkling fusion of Afro-cosmic and dubbed-out nu-disco rich in sparkling synth sounds and warm, weighty bass.

Appropriately, Robinson’s original Tigerbalm take on ‘Waiheke’ is backed with a wealth of inspired remixes tailored to tantalise and tease a variety of dancefloors.

‘Waiheke’, then, is another sublime single from an artist whose distinctive personal style is rightly winning plaudits from across the musical spectrum. Her soon-come debut album is one you won’t want to miss.

Greece DJ Snatch & Blacksoul joined forces to create Those Guys From Athens based on their mutual love for Boogie sounds. Expect dancefloor fillers and soulful sounds around from the globe.

Their smooth slow disco sound has reached the attention of DJ Supermarkt very quickly. They were part of a lot of YACHT DISCO EDIT compilations so far.

But this time we have more than just new Edits.

Some time ago they did a low key rework for famous 80s US Disco band Champaign (yep, they had a megahit with “How `Bout Us”) and their song “I’m On Fire”, which made its way to Pauli Carman, head of the band, after it was played on BBC 6 in the UK. He loved the new version so much, that he gave permission for TGFA and TSTD to release the slow jam masterpiece officially.

Tom Findlay (Groove Armada) and James Alexander Bright's relationship started on Twitter (a place where hope usually goes to die) However, Tom had listened to James' recent release on the radio reached out to chat about working together on some tracks. Over a few months in the studio they created a mountain of work, some of which would feature on Groove Armada's recent 'Edge Of The Horizon' album. Having enjoyed working together so much, they decided to start their own project and Bright & Findlay was born. The first track they worked on together is featured as the lead on this 12" was 'Slow Dance' Funky party track with its feet firmly in 80s boogie territory and. Following tracks seemed to interweave / play alongside each other. Drums machine / chorus laden synths and guitars, and a soulful vocal are a staple of their sound. When Tom and James sent the EP over I was down from 20 seconds into the first track, 80s Boogie, Tangerine dream, Disco rap style rhythms yet totally the...

Always fun house craftsman Ali Renault secured another big tune with his 'Piano For The People' which is a chuggy groover that locks you in with its rich atmospheres. Now it gets offered up with remixes from, firstly, Aikhi, who flip it with laidback downtempo drums and some classic and well known chords. Calm then brings his Mellow Acid Dub to sink you in even further and last of all Double Geography bring some more crunchy drum textures and psyched-out synth sounds with echoing vocals and dark, late night sense of mischief.

Harold dons his Lion’s Drums alias for two powerful edits of South African kwaito legend Sandy B.

Originally released in Durban on cassette and limited white label in 1994, then reissued on Invisible City Editions in 2017, ‘Amajovi’ and ‘Student Night’ were two stand out tracks from a larger mini album release that brought everything that we love about the 90s together into a fiery township party fusion; European crossover house music hits, acid house, west coast hip-hop, all blended with vibrant percussion and kwaito flavour, it captured the exciting energy of post-Apartheid South Africa… Which is now brought into the 2020s with complete respect and passion by Lion’s Drums.

‘Amajovi’ takes the low-and-slow tempo of the original up a gear with a bulbous kick and layers of percussion. Bringing Sandy’s chanting vocals right to the front of the mix, and fine-tuning the original’s purring bassline, the game changes with the entrance of heavenly harmonic pipes and a sense of momentum and vibe that sits somewhere between Awesome Tapes From Africa and Hessle Audio.

Meanwhile ‘Student Night’ bubbles from the off with a very well-known bassline hook that’s peppered with flashes of 303, hand drums, pipes and Sandy’s own peppy chatter. From the moment you hear the universal sound of a can opening, this lives up to its name whether you skipped school or achieved a masters. All fully endorsed and supported by the original don Sandy himself, it’s all positive education…

Spanish DJ, producer and Night Shift records boss Javi Frias presents a new EP of disco edits that take the vibes of the 70s and re-fit them for the current dancefloor. As you might imagine, each of the four tracks seemingly has PARTY stamped across it in giant capital lettering, from the opening stomper 'Hot Damn!' with its bright-as-a-button brass section and the wah wah guitar of 'Dance To The Music' to the proto-house of 'The Spirit'. But the best is saved to last - the bendy funk bassline gymnastics of 'Feel Good', quite irresistible.

The first drop on the new Disco Mind Records is a top collection of well-designed and perfectly executed re-edits by two Italian disco stallions, Paul Older and Bplan. Each of these men is respected for previous works on the likes of Toy Tonics and Tropical disco and here they delve into their collections and come out with four fiery and authentic new cuts. 'Ma Quale Amore' is a peak time bomb, there is groove and funk to spare on 'Travolgente' and much more to win over all sorts of disco lovers. A great start to what is sure to be a fine label.

20/20 Vision have enlisted disco overlords Crazy P to curate a brand new series of records for the label, with exclusive tracks produced by some of their favourite artists on the cards. Designed to stretch beyond the world of disco and showcase the band's wide ranging and eclectic musical tastes, there'll be Balearic moments, downtempo beats, indie dance and electronica spread over four vinyl records.
Volume One kicks things off in style with a brand new track from Crazy P themselves, 'People (We Can Transform)', a slinky medium paced groove run through with a slowly opening acid line, funky guitars and an uplifting vocal. Elsewhere, Ashley Beedle declares 'War On The Bullshit (Revive)' with a barnstorming dancefloor stomper and Felix Dickinson remixes ASHRR's 'Fizzy' into a classy noir instrumental where jazz funk keyboards swirl around a rock solid b-line. Change Request & Saucy Lady close the whole affair with soul drenched diva-fest 'Be Dramatic', definitely the most old skool of the lot. It all bodes very well for the next three instalments.

Following releases from label founder Palms Trax, a reissue of eighties Chicago House innovator Rog’e, and a pair of cassette mixtapes from Berlin-based selectors Enchanted Rhythm and Budino, CWPT looks to the North-East of England for its next release, live and direct from REES.

Hot on the heels of a twelve-inch on Bordello A Parigi and underscoring a slowly simmering reputation as one of the brightest stars of his community, REES’s debut on CWPT is a classy and globally informed perspective on house, disco and acid styles.

Undistilled rhythm is at the heart of Rees’s vision of club culture; on title track, Devils Club, it’s effect makes itself known immediately, driving a channel of lively percussion towards a series of tasteful breakdowns that are both propulsive and alluring. On ‘Magic’, a confidently raw, loose drum loop accelerates into a glossy, psychedelic speed-chase that’s pure Miami Vice reimagined in Middlesbrough.

Debut release of Tigerbalm on Ubiquity Records, featuring remixes by heavy weights Mang Dynasty, Max Essa, Massimo Lamagna and Guinu & Cardaci.

Some artists strive for years to develop a distinctive trademark sound, stumbling between projects while trying to find their voice. It’s not an accusation you could level at rising star Rose Robinson, whose Tigerbalm releases are infused with a trademark sound that’s alight with infectious (and often thrillingly percussive) rhythms, vivid aural colour and nods to a dizzying array of sounds and styles from around the World.

It's this hard-to-pigeonhole personal style, allied with an instinctive grasp of what works on the dancefloor – a by-product of over a decade spent DJing around her home city of London and well beyond – that’s at the heart of Robinson’s first Tigerbalm release for Ubiquity Records, ‘Kete’, and the subsequent single and debut album that will follow later in the autumn.

Like the rest of that album, the appropriately titled International Love Affair, ‘Kete’ was inspired by Robinson’s travels around the world – in this case, the unique musical culture of Bali, where Indonesian-influenced rhythms and instrumentation sit side by side with imported nu-Balearic beats (a style Eric Duncan once dubbed ‘Bali-eric’ during the period he was a resident on the island), nu-disco and sundown house.

Blessed with the stylish, queen-of-the-night vocals of Berlin-based singer Joy Tyson, also known as Snake Milk and a member of the Farafi Band, ‘Kete’ is a locked-in late-night treat. Originally recorded as an instrumental, which Tyson then wrote lyrics for and added her vocals to, the track a wonderfully low-slung chugger laden with slowly creeping chords, weighty dub disco bass, flashes of fuzzy psyche-funk guitar, echoing percussion hits (provided by long-time friend and collaborator Patrick Dawes), whispers of Indonesian instrumentation and of trippy effects.

The release of ‘Kete’ comes accompanied by a beautiful, stylish video. This was shot in Berlin, directed by photographer and video maker Roberto Zanrossa and art directed by the song’s singer, Joy Tyson with background visuals from Kubma Dobrowolski.

‘Kete’, then, is a single that sets the agenda for the Tigerbalm releases to follow, both musically and visually. It’s a strong sonic sentiment from a producer hitting her artistic peak.

Harvey Sutherland's latest 12 marks the inaugural release for Clarity Recordings, an imprint established by Sutherland for modern Australian records.The first new music from the Melbourne producer since last year's cuts for MCDE, the double A-side Priestess / Bravado features his live trio Bermuda at full tilt, with an ensemble of hand clapping friends. Self-described lounge room disco burners, the record summons the groove experiments of Patrick Adams, Bill Laswell and Arthur Russell, while retaining Harvey's soulful tones and club-ready arrangements.
Priestess evolves slowly, a nine-minute mind dance that ultimately reaches a celestial state. Sutherland's piano lines bounce off drummer Graeme Pogson's unwavering four-on-the-floor, while one-man string section Tamil Rogeon travels skyward. Live standout Bravado is played with determined precision, locking into a tough backbeat that only breaks once Sutherland's warbling lead solo approaches its resonant peak.
Harvey Sutherland and Bermuda will release Priestess / Bravado 12 and digital worldwide on 4 November 2016, via Clarity Recordings and Above Board Distribution.

Celebrating 10 years in the game this year and after a slight covid-induced pause, Dixon Avenue Basement Jams are back with fresh new summer heat straight from the depths of the colosseum on their Neutralizer sub-label. Longtime friend of the DABJ crew Delphi (who is also one half of Tiger & Woods alongside Marco Passarani) joins up with four shining examples of forward thinking machine driven funk, the type you can only expect to hear from the eternal city of Rome.

Russian Indie Dance / Nu Disco and House label Soviett return with the 4th vinyl release of their club-friendly series «Plastinka»! Ranging from 108 to 124 BPM this time, all four tracks are full-length DJ-versions exclusive to this vinyl and never been available before. «Patchouly Indonesiano» by Saint-Petersburg-based Pavel Korzhensky, aka Ksky, is a lively piece of modern analogue electro. Alexander Prosvetov, aka Marco Lazovic from Moscow, delivers an atmospheric tech-house track with a strong retro feeling of the 80s and 90s dance music scene; it emphasizes how deeply Lazovic explores the roots of electronica. Street Choice is a Russian duo of Artyom Vasiliev and Alexander Rodakov; the guys present a classic house production with a humming rhythm section and a memorable piano line on top. Buzz Compass is Andrey Bychenkov and his «Make A Baby» is a perfect laid back start to an evening pre-party with lots of live instruments and no rush. Plastinka 4 is a proper addition to your current vinyl DJ-set or personal listening pleasure!

The 1979 Jimmy ‘Bo’ Horne gem, “Spank” was an essential DJ tool from back in the day. It was then dubbed out by Brooklyn Express in ’81 and called “Sixty Nine”, with it’s alternative on the flipside being called “Change Position 88”! Fast forward to recent times this gem’s been operated on by Dutch big hitter, HP Vince (Midnight Riot, Tropical Disco, Masterworks, Samosa, King St etc) where he stays true to the original.

On the flipside present-day Nu-Disco royalty the Dr Packer (Glitterbox, M2MR, Salsoul) presents his new version, never before available on vinyl. The Dr revives and prescribes jams like no other and delivers yet another party monster.

New Resense stuff for the advanced dancefloors. "Lalo Shuffle" is a rework of the main theme from the original movie "Planet Of The Apes", written by the great Lalo Schifrin while "Magic Hancock" pays a funky tribute to the great Jazz composer Herbie Hancock.

Locked down and furloughed, Vitalic went back to his synths and beatboxes, resulting in his fifth album "DISSIDÆNCE" - the title of which is a whole story in itself - destined to be released in two volumes. He describes it as a return to the roots of his sonic identity, a kind of reinterpretation of the rock energy of his early albums. "More than anything, it was a question of timing. While composing I realised that eight tracks felt like too little for an album, and sixteen was really over the top, so I decided to cut the whole thing in half! The main reason though is that I felt I hadn't been able to express everything I wanted to on the first volume - like something had been left unfinished."

The two episodes of "DISSIDÆNCE" - navigating between pop and hardcore, sweat and tenderness, melancholia and anger - are a sort of boiling down of what the artist knows how to do best, after twenty years of creating, from filthy whirlwinds that make your mind explode on the dancefloor to bubble gum pop songs about love that transport us elsewhere. On these two volumes of "DISSIDÆNCE" that now form one, the powerful beats and galloping sequencers translate the social and political anger of the global pandemic, and Vitalic looks into the past, channelling his love for off-kilter synth sounds, skew-whiff pads, heady refrains, distorted vocals and heavy beats. Above all, this dancefloor marathon expresses his obsessional passion for dance music and the primal need to dance. "DISSIDÆNCE" should be taken as both a celebration of celebration and a journey back in time to an era that maybe does not exist right now, but which will - and this album is the dazzling proof - be reborn from its ashes to burn bright once more, its BPM let loose and rage still blazing, because more than ever, to dance is to live.

2001: Guillaume Atlan is nominated with 'Starlight' at the MTV Awards in the best French artists category. 20 years later, the first generation French Touch (Modjo, Demon, Cassius, Stardust, Etienne de Crécy etc.) is almost gone. Among the few still active, The Supermen Lovers, who will release his fourth studio album, 'Body Double', end of May.

A reference to Brian de Palma's film and its perfect plastic, the disc bears witness to the many artistic encounters and tumults of love that feed Guillaume during his trip to Kyiv from 2018 to 2020. Love can move mountains but can also destroy a man. Demons and emotions will make him go back to the studios, firstly in Kyiv, which reminds him of Paris in the 90s : strong energy, a thirst for discovery, creation and pure spontaneity. Straddling 2 musical bodies, the heart of Body Double balances between vocal electro-disco and clubbing, without forgetting this analog/digital jumble dear to Guillaume. He is an electro producer, a DJ, but above all a multi-instrumentalist. Machines in contact with “real” instruments…

Three generous portions of blissful beats on the Electric Shrine imprint, kicking off with the downbeat (in BPM terms) but lively 'Solar Visions' coming on like a dub mix of a lost Chic classic, 'What You Love' more like prime-era John Carpenter remixed by a mischievous Orb and 'Un Amore Supremo' a slow motion (one of the slowest we've ever encountered) reverb-fest, designed for more eccentric chillout rooms. And that's all before the opera singer pitches in.

With 45 years in the DJ game under his belt and having played endless gigs all over the world during that time it's safe to say Mr.K knows exactly what he's doing when it comes to the re-edit thing! With unprecedented access to TK's vaults Danny has been turning in some stellar reworkings as of late and the cuts included on this latest instalment keep the quality sky high!
The Ritchie Family's sunny 1977 b-side 'Summer dance' is a roof raising soulful stormer of the highest degree! 100% Disco heat, a record that would have gotten numerous spins in the 'real' Disco clubs and dance-floors upon it's release. It has it all - soaring string arrangements, driving percussion breakdowns and of course, top shelf vocals from Cheryl, Cassandra and Gwendolin. With those super crisp drums upfront in the mix, punctuated by orchestral stabs this edit is perfect for the DJ's, and will be a welcome go-to cut in the booth! Don't snooze...
Wild Honey were a soul trio from Texas, here their 1976 number "At the top of the stairs" - a deep vocal track - gets the Mr.K treatment with Danny editing the vocals out and giving us a rolling, string laden stomper. With a respectful, slight rearrangement he manages to bring a new slant on this already well loved underground Disco jam pushing it into the stratosphere! Pretty heavy stuff indeed, not for the faint hearted but for the dancers! This one is sure to ignite any club lucky enough to hear it bursting out of the speaker stack! Another essential edit!

1988: Six years after entering the music scene, and just a few months after the release of the teen, 80s earworm, “Bonne bonne humeur ce matin” by Tristan, the producer and arranger, Michel Bassignani, recorded “Tu me tues” in Belgium. Dissatisfied with the result, Michel went back to the drawing board at Waldbery Studios in Paris recording all instrumentals (except sax). After hearing his new work, Dominique, a high school pal, proposed to sing for Bassignani. Dominique's stage name became Maureen, and in addition to the single and extended versions, the duo recorded a “Dance mix”. We asked Jkriv to express is talent to produce a new version of this classic music track. Pardonnez-nous, but check it out!

For the 25th release in our Phonica White series, we are very excited to have three stunning tracks from Disco wizard Ron Basejam! When he’s not producing and performing with the legendary band Crazy P, Ron Basejam aka James Baron can be found putting out all kinds of dance floor power tools on labels such as Razor N Tape, Futureboogie and his own RBJ edits imprint, as well as delivering amazing remixes.

This release kicks off with ‘The Hurt Inside’, evoking late night Los Angeles highway cruises and the driving power of Knight Rider, it breaks down into a glorious euphoria for the breakdown before hitting Mach 10 again with the raw funk bassline and drums kicking back in. Over on the B-Side, proceedings begin with ‘Don’t Bus My Aux’ which finds Ron Basejam digging into a Deep House-in- fused world, drawing you in with Balearic pads before erupting with thunderous bass, vocal chops and chants that are expertly contrasted against soulful Rhodes-esque keys while the percussion grows into frenzy.

Rounding out the release, ‘Music People’ sets a call to the dance floor as its mantra, sitting some- where craftily between House and Techno with ease. The sung vocals flutter in the background with the marching drums and rumbling low end maintaining a cavernous groove. The track builds into an almost Boards of Canada-style warbling synth breakdown before sinking into the pounding percussion for the climax.

Round two for David Jackson! Just born in the heydays of the "Airport Disco" David provides us with the future of Italo Disco and beyond. Mr. Jackson makes music for mirror balls, strobe lights, fog machines and Richard Long sound systems. The title track "Airport Disco" is a heater at first sight. It will make you whistle along or go bang straightaway. "Oohhyyee" is a modern piece of uplifting, breaky & airy UK vibe and hits just the right notes and spots. Some folks claim the only good system is a soundsystem. Well "In My System" appears with powerful synth chords and yes, believe me you want to join this system too.
