11 track album by Patrick Cowley. Perhaps one of the most revolutionary and influential people in the cannon of disco music, Cowley created his own brand of Hi-NRG dance music coined 'The San Francisco Sound.' By the mid-70ies, Patrick's synthesizer skills landed him a job composing and producing songs for disco superstar Sylvester such as 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)', 'Dance Disco Heat' and 'Stars.' This helped Patrick obtain more work as a remixer and producer. Of particular note was his 18-minute long remix of Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love'. By 1981 Patrick released a string of dance 12inch singles, like 'Menergy' and 'Megatron Man', creating the soundtrack for a generation. Prior to his passing on November 12, 1982, he recorded two more Hi-NRG hits, 'Do You Wanna Funk' for Sylvester and 'Right On Target' for Paul Parker. In 1981 Patrick was contacted by John Coletti, owner of famed gay porn company Fox Studio in Los Angeles. John had heard about Patrick's music from the legendary Sylvester and proposed he write music for his films. Patrick jumped on this offer and sent reels of his college compositions from the 70s to John in LA. Coletti then used a variable speed oscillator to adjust the pitch and speed of Patrick's songs in-sync with the film scene. 'School Daze' is a collection of Cowley's instrumental songs recorded between 1973 and 1981 found in the Fox Studio vaults. Influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos and Giorgio Moroder, Patrick forged an electronic sound from his collection of synthesizers, modified guitars and self-constructed equipment. The listener enters a world of dark forbidden vices, introspective and reflective of Patrick's time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco. The songs on 'School Daze' range from sparse prototechno to high octane funk to somber post-punk to musique concrete, revealing the depth of Cowley's unique talent.

Qwestlife’s dedication to crafting authentic, heartfelt and original disco tracks has been well documented over the course their partnership. The duo, a cross-European collaboration between Southern French maestro Tom Laroye and London mainstay Andy Williams (aka Yam Who?), came together in 2013, and with Tom’s song-writing abilities and Andy’s club track mastery, they were a match made in musical heaven. Using old school methods and analogue techniques to produce enchanting boogie-filled numbers, the Glitterbox regulars now release their debut album ‘Prophecy’ on the imprint, encapsulating the boundless energy of their DJ sets in an exquisite 10-track collection. With highlights including previous singles like the joyous Glitterbox anthem ‘Hit It Off’ and instant party anthem ‘Give Me A Minute’ (the duo’s label debut) the feel-good qualities of this album highlight not only Qwestlife’s production abilities but also their expansive knowledge of the genre. Album exclusives like ‘Can’t Stop’ and ‘Cut You Loose’ show them exploring a distinctively housier vibe with vocalist Alena, while ‘Universal Love’ and ‘Don’t Break My Heart’ could have been taken straight from the heart of a 1970’s disco. Featuring an incredible array of collaborators that range from session vocalist to the stars Teni Tinks, Barbados’ Bobby Saint and the ubiquitous Sugarhill Gang this album is a wonderful ode to the dancefloor and a record box essential.

After co-producing their triumphant debut album ‘Topical Dancer’ which was heralded as Pitchfork’s Best New Music on release, Soulwax have delivered a remix of Charlotte & Bolis’ fan favourite 'Ceci N’est Pas Un Cliché'. The dynamic track which touches on all of the most cliché lyrics used in pop music has received the club treatment from Soulwax ahead of this summer’s lengthy festival run for the Belgian duo.

Ralph Lawson's 20/20 Vision has been a reliable home for disco funksters Crazy P over the years. Even though the label has veered more into electro sounds of late, happily it still has the space for this second volume of tunes curated by the Nottingham outfit. It shows how their sound has broadened over the years and takes in the gorgeous downtempo lushness of A Certain Ratio's 'Atmosphere Sings' next to Hot Toddy's deep and thoughtful groove 'Barry & The Mouse'. On the flip is some majestic and cosmic Italo from scene-godfather Daniele Baldelli & Marco Dionigi on 'Neono' and then Sarah Bates rounds out with some rugged bass guitar riffs and late-night tropical heat on 'All About That'.

Highlife throws a curveball for it's next release with a piece of Kwaito from South Africa's DJ Call Me. A track sweeter than Irn Bru, we first stumbled across 'Marry Me' on the radio by the New York DJ, Sadaf. After a quick search, we found it on YouTube with over a million views, only to discover it had been 'track of the summer(s)' back in South Africa at the start of the decade. Almost a 'Searching for Sugarman' moment... The track wasn't available to buy in any kind of format, and so began an elaborate quest to track down the artist via his defunct Facebook page. After many an unanswered email and a couple of years persistence, we finally managed to track down a manager still in touch with DJ Call Me, and we're now involved in some regular Whatsapp exchanges with the man himself. After showing it to a select group of DJ pals, it began to show up on the ID of music Facebook group, courtesy of plays by the likes of Axel Boman, Hunee & Korne´l Kova´cs. Last summer, Auntie Flo and Andrew played at a wedding in Beirut and this track got such a massive reaction that we've been dying to share it with you ever since. DJ Call Me's 'Marry Me' is out via Highlife on Fri, 20th April 2018.

After Prette (pronounced as ‘pret’ which means fun in Dutch) successfully launched a stage to perform art, it only felt natural to also launch a platform to release art.

Prettemusic is an independent imprint that releases limited vinyl records.

Prettemusic hits the ground running with its first release – a stunning four-track debut EP from head honcho Koperblond. Koperblond (real name Wouter Beek) delivers a mix of Arabic hip-shaking and emotional trance euphoria to evoke intense dance floor ecstasy.

The opening track is ‘Kunti’, an Italo disco destroyer with a bold Bollywood spirit that will lure you in and awaken those hips. Next up is a remake of the brave starter – this new cocktail with hints of the original track has a high-energy zap-crazed feel and a groovy-moving non-stop sound. On the flip side ‘I Want Your Love’ – an emotional love story with a journey through the track that feels like a taste of real love. From happiness and grief to hope and hopelessness, it bursts loudly and with great force. It is a true reminder that love will save the day. Multi-instrumentalist DJ and producer Rose Ringed reinterprets this ode to love using his typical sound palette. The result is a big room banger ready to be served alongside fireworks and CO2 cannons. It is Rose Ringed’s first vinyl outing following releases on his label, Closed Eyes Records, and Solomun’s world-famous Diynamic.

This Prettemusic release comes on exclusive Koperblond-coloured (copper blond in Dutch) vinyl alongside a unique two-front artwork from abstract painter Harry Markusse and fine-art photographer Pieter Bas Bouwman.

A new Earthly Measures adventure begins... We introduce to you Earthly Tapes 01, the first of our compilation series inspired by sounds from all corners of the globe, artists from Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Australia and the UK invite you to experience their homelands through their individual musical styles, keeping to the diverse sounds that Earthly Measures has come to be known for!

Ecuadorian born Joaquin Cornejo’s KOMOREBI serves as an excellent introduction to the label, with emotive sounds and soulful lyrics creating a beautifully peaceful track. This is a song built around almost forgotten vocal recordings of the amazing English singer Wabi Sabi and resampled old magnetic tape recordings that make up the rich textural background.

Argentina native Janax Pacha brings up the tempo with a more dance floor friendly track. AMA-ZONA has a slow-burning tribal feel which wouldn’t sound out of place at any point of a set, paying homage to the Amazonian rain forest. In his own words “Ama" is to Love - "zona" means Zone - Lets respect and take care of the world's nature by caring for and respecting our Own Nature. Our love zone is the heart just as Amazona is one of the largest hearts of our natural world and planet. The voice of our heart is the voice of nature. Hear it. Respect it. Let it Sing.”

Brazilian Ibu Selva brings us TAPARENDY, created as a means to evoke communication and dialogue between himself and the Guarani-Kaiowá indigenous people from the rural outskirts of Brazil. This fierce downtempo groove is a mix of digital culture & form, producing a futuristic melancholy sound that reflects on Selva's ancestry as well as the uplifting landscapes of his home country.

To kick off side B, we have another Brazilian native, the prolific Carrot Green. OUTRA METROPOLE has beautiful keys, powerful synths & a wonderfully mesmerising breakdown. This is one for the early risers – ready for a cosmic trip and some transcendental mind melting along the way.

Multi Culti head Dreems offers up something a bit different with the playful FLAT EARTH. This downtempo chugger is something straight out of the Multi Culti handbook!

Finally Earthly Measures family member Ben Michael concludes our premier release with UNTIL NOW, a delight that instantly excites and exhilarates, rounding things off perfectly.

Freestyle continues with their drive to unearth rare and classic UK funk, soul & boogie records with a reissue of a formerly white label-only, rare-as-hens-teeth debut 12" by UK soul icon Rick Clarke from way back in 1981.

Sharing the same line-up of performers as the eponymous group Potion (Rick Clarke, Carlton White on bass & Everton McCalla, formerly of Light of the World and later Freeez, on drums) though credited on the OG press as Rick Clarke alone, this 12" came out originally in the same year as the also sought after Potion 12" "Catch The Feelin' (Showstopper)" - a year before we would see Rick & Everton release the classic british electro funk of "Magic" as Side On (with Peter Mass) on Beggars Banquet.

This is a classic slice of British disco funk, showcasing an early vocal talent that would go on to become a key feature of the late 80s UK soul scene, alongside a tight-as rhythm section. The subtly dubbed-out instrumental mix is a real treat too, bringing those synth flourishes and soaring horns to the fore and letting us hear Carlton's bass work wonders unencumbered.

Wankelmut makes his Toolroom debut alongside Anna Leyne with ‘Free At Last’, backed by a remix from label favourite Martin Ikin.

A prominent name within electronic music, with remixes for the likes of Dennis Lloyd, Lenny Kratiza and Hozier, through to his highly successful single ‘My Head Is A Jungle’, remixed by one of house music’s most distinguished talents MK, German DJ and producer Wankelmut’s career has seen the Berlin-based talent grow to become one of the country’s finest musical exports. Next up, welcomes a label debut on Toolroom alongside vocalist Anna Leyne as the pair deliver their latest single ‘Free At Last’, accompanied by a remix from label regular Martin Ikin.

The shimmering ‘Free At Last’ showcases Wankelmut’s premium production skills as slick percussion grooves combine with funk-influenced basslines and Anna Leyne’s powerful vocals, whilst Martin Ikin’s interpretation reveals a robust, feel-good house cut fuelled by the originals infectious vocals atop of bright, resonant piano melodies and crisp drums.

Legendary Australian Disco-fiend Late Nite Tuff Guy turns up the heat on the equally legendary Salsoul Records with 3 absolutely stellar reworks of some bonafide classics. Somehow, LNTG manages to tweak these old-school recordings and injects a thoroughly contemporary edge into them, making them sound brand new. Featured here are 3 stone cold Salsoul monsters, all respectfully handled and edited with care - First Choice's uber-classic 'Doctor Love' & 'Love Having You Around' (penned by Stevie Wonder & his then wife Syreeta, no less!) and Double Exposure's anthemic 'Everyman' all go under the knife in the best possible way! Moiss Music is dropping two slabs of heat this month - their sixth and seventh EPs overall. Both are various artists' collections with plenty of 'floor-facing disco fun. Mathew Ferness opens this one with 'Paradisio' which has plenty of inspiration taken from late afternoon dances somewhere like Ibiza. 3kelves & We Are Neurotic get you working your feet with the busy percussive grooves and squelchy synth funk of 'Laguna Reservoir Funk' while Naux brings lots of loopy fun and throwback vocal goodness to his steamy 'Foxxy Cleopatra.' Partner Music rounds out the EP with the most energetic and busy of the lot - the restless melodies of 'People Should Romance.'

Batongo's journey into the world of editing continues with discoveries of new landscapes, like with 'Calypso', where tropical echoes and liberating screams invoke your most primitive dance moves.

PyschoWeazel take us straight back to the 80s with their vintage synths and hair spray hairstyle with the “BIANCO&ROSSO EPs”. Put on your nicest shirt, put your sunglasseson, get your pair of santiagos out, it’s your time to shine on the dancefloor!At the very edge of good taste, always with a pinch of fun and self-mockery, these sixtracks sound like the future of hedonist club music, 2022 style.These two EPs are a bit like both sides of the same coin. They include influencesthat shaped the duo’ssound: indie-Dance, Italo-disco, Cold Wave and EBM. PsychoWeazel used production techniques popular in the 80s: arpeggios, cowbells, snarerolls, re-claiming ear-catching melodies from that era and offering it with their freshand polished sound.

House music royalty right here! Brookside Music enlist Chicago’s Ralphi Rosario, founding member of the influential Hot Mix 5, to work his magic on First Choice’s ‘Ain’t He Bad’, with an extended disco mix and a reprise dub, alongside the original version.

The extended disco mix kicks things off with a DJ friendly, beefier, quantized drum pattern, echoed vocal refrains and heavenly swooping pads for a touch of Rosario style and added atmosphere. A refreshing update to this classic, purpose built to blast out on big systems worldwide.

Next up, Rosario offers a reprise dub adding spiritual stabs to the original piano, as First Choice’s whispers feed in and tension building strings gather momentum. Gradually elements of the percussion are added before the full force of the beat takes hold. The vocals, for the most part, are left to those delicate “Ain’t He Bad” phrases and rising harmonies, letting the expert instrumentation and arrangement sing. Another sure-fire, hands-in-the-air staple for the locker.

Last but not least, the original First Choice version completes the package, offering a third and final way to light up the dancefloor this summer.

The St Petersburg resident has been pushing his sound for a number of years and with this leaves a trail of high standard releases behind him. After releasing on labels such as Inhale Exhale, Lisztomania, Kolour Digital + more, it was about time that the well travelled DJ/Producer released a full EP on vinyl.

Chipping in with a remix is the renegade from Rennes, Yann Polewka. A guy who’s recognisable style has seen him bag a flurry of releases over the past year or so.

Something very special here with Slow Motion’s 48th release.

Recorded while experimenting with gear at CIMM studios (Venice Biennale’s centre for computer music which Bottin co-designed in 2019), EYE-BM is a joint release between two of our heaviest hitters: hairy Fabrizio Mammarella and baldie Bottin. EYE-BM is three tracks of sinister music, sweaty electro with tinges of cyberpunky EBM and New Beat. The icing on the cake is the euphoric remix from Italian synth wave pioneer Alexander Robotnick.

The acidic and jacking flavour might as well be the sound of your mind and body losing it on the dancefloor or missing your stop on the ass-bahn. Turn the dial up to 11. Or 12.

Before it's release, climax, already became a hot topic on various track ID forums over the internet. It has been a secret weapon by label boss David Vunk in his recent gigs. B1 Is a nuitalohouse uptempo clubbanger for the raving discoheads made by Amsterdams hero: Perdu and is called "Mind phrases" Crazy basslines, atmospheric melodies and a super 80-ies sample to singalong!!! ofcourse also a Vunk DJ classic already and also Perdu his debut on Moustache records. Instantly fist pamp it style. B2 With "Mort sur le Dancefloor" Kendal makes his great return to Moustache Records with another italo infused banger. "Tu? par le rythme fatal, je suis mort sur le dancefloor" translates to ? Killed by the fatal rhythm, i'm dead on the dancefloor ? Through these french vocoded lyrics Kendal explore the metaphorical idea that a sound can hook you so much that it'll you keep you dancing until you're gone. But with an euphoria meter pushed up to the max, you can drop this track in a club and be sure everyone will feel more than alive ! KX9000 is back with “Ultra Loisir”. Halfway between a bustling French house and Japanese city-pop influences, the Parisian producer offers a delicious 5-tracker, which can be tasted without moderation. Leonardo Di Fiore (NOCUI's real name) is a Rome-born composer and a classically trained pianist who brings a performative approach to how he makes music. An early love of jazz also permeates his work and he now considers himself a "studio and sound design obsessive." That shows in the meticulously crafted, always fresh music he makes on his go-to drum machine, the Jomox Alpha Base. NOCUI is also adept at speaking through other key bits of gear such as the Roland SH101, Acidlab 303, DSI Prophet 6, and Haken Continuum Fingerboard - machines that lend his music its signature sound and have taken him to labels like Traum and Wildfire.

The legendary Dimitri From Tokyo wields his blade on two disco classics and re-ignites them for the dance floor in his trade mark hi fidelity style.

Los Angeles disco/funk lover LUXXURY’s latest EP "Set Me Free" - five slices of dreamy 80’s disco and funk influenced bedroom pop - got on the radar of in the know indie dance fans after repeated airplay on LA tastemaker station KCRW. But the grooves, rubbery bass lines and shimmering synths barely mask the anxiety in the vocals, as LUXXURY (Blake Robin) sings as if he were peering into the future from the world we’ve all just - and so, very recently - left behind.
