NYC-based duo Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper write songs through a telepathic kinship they've developed since they started making music together. "We have these sort of unspoken criteria when we're writing music. We never really need to explain what that is but we both know when it's missing or when we've hit it.' The pair, AKA Tempers, are set to release their 'Fundamental Fantasy' EP via The Vinyl Factory on 24th February. Creating an emotional and tonal tension of sensual and mechanical impulses, their brand of dark electronica sets haunting song writing to a sinister disco beat, pop melodies floating in an almost industrial soundscape. It follows the band's 2015 debut full-length 'Services.'

''Fundamental Fantasy' is about exploring the creative scenery of romantic illusions. Our need for them, how we justify them to ourselves, that moment when the imagined story line collides with reality. The ways we fictionalize people to fit into the narratives we have about love - to reflect our own beliefs, virtues and flaws. It is about celebrating fantasies swelling and getting undone, so we can pick up the pieces and craft new ones that serve us better' Tempers
Musically, 'Fundamental Fantasy' is an evolution in both song writing and process, while still tracing a clear line to their earlier output. Many of the EP's melodies were born of live improvisation, which helped them create an instinctive, natural immediacy within their electronic arrangements. The cover of the EP depicts the duo on the volcanic island of Stromboli, where they performed at The Volcano Extravaganza, an art and music festival curated by The Vinyl Factory. 'It is a perfect landscape to mirror the mood of 'Fundamental Fantasy.' A seemingly idyllic place that is isolated from the outside world.'

Not too long ago a jiffy bag arrived at Parkwest HQ. In it was a scratched TDK case with a SA-X tape containing a musical message from years past, simply marked 'THE TAPE I LOST!'
We sat and listened, able to pinpoint influence and reference but yet hearing something totally new.
That this tape surfaced and made it across the years and the miles to us was fortunate. When the synth part came through clear on a later version on the tape, allowing us to remix then it became destiny.Emotion, melody and rhythm will always be timeless and these tracks, selected from that tape, are as relevant today as they ever were.

Love Dancing, along with Jesse Proudfoot and Chris Allen's Good Faith, was a formative dance experience for many of us in Vancouver and an essential ingredient in the Mood Hut stew. The music on this disc dates from that period and captures some of the energy of the Love Dancing parties. We hope you enjoy it.

Todd von Terje dives into summer with a new single entitled "Strandbar". This vinyl and digital release is the third on Olsen Records, following the Lindstrøm collab "Lanzarote" and Terje's "It's the Arps" EP.

Beginning in the south, the Bruce Trail hugs the ancient shoreline of Lake Iroquoia as it follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The Path, over its lengthy journey, winds its way through a landscape of natural beauty as it moves up to central Ontario. As the Trail leads further into the depths of the woodland and Ravine, sunlight falls through layers of evergreen branches stamping intricate patterns on the forest floor. Continuing north, the Trail passes an array of plants and wildlife native to the historic forest. Vivid colours saturate the forest canopy, complimented by the sounds of the cascading
waterfall echoing through the Ravine. In the distance a carpet of gently waving fern cover the rolling hills dotted with slow-growing centuries-old coniferous trees that reach towards the sun.
At the home stretch of the escarpment you will be offered stunning views of the Peninsula, with the calm blue water of the western end of Lake Ontario reaching out to the lush greens of the temperate rainforest. This is the journey of the Bruce Trail.

Mr.intl have unearthed a lost gem. 'Cortina Kidz' is an utterly overlooked part of the tapestry of late 80's British acid house history. Recorded in a cold water flat on Stoke Newington Road in 1987 and then released as a B-side in 1988, its eccentric spoken word overlay and weird lead vocal made it very unlike the prevailing dance music sound of the time. This is a unique recording whose time has come.'Cortina Kidz' was produced by a young Tim Brinkhurst ahead of his imminent record deal with Virgin Records with his band Soho, and long before his current role as manager of Mercury Prize winners, Young Fathers. The A-side 'Jack Me Some Crack' was a minor dance moment in 1988, but 'Cortina Kidz' on the flip remained undiscovered.
That was until mr.Intl, Andy Butler's record label, made a chance discovery in 2015. It was a track so good that they pledged to resurrect it. Tim was duly tracked down ('you are only the second person in my life to ask me about this record') and interpretations from Factory Floor and NYC cohorts Juan Maclean & Tim Sweeney are to finally give this track the exposure it deserves.
Tim Brinkhurst explains, 'We released a double A side 7' single with two specially written, 'throw-away' tracks, a few weeks before the Virgin deal. One of these was 'Cortina Kidz', recorded on a 4 track Portastudio and sung with passion by our friend Simon Waller utilising the unique and glorious tones of a Roland MT-32 sound module, it was a little electro-mod/psycho-drama. The single was meant to be released then disappear, it quickly sold out and that was that, for 28 years, until I was contacted from out of the blue by these mad fuckers who wanted to re-release Cortina Kidz! Hearing it again brought back memories of a London, a Dalston, that was choking with petrol fumes and in the middle of a crack epidemic that made the streets, never the easiest walk, even edgier. The fact that the energy for this remarkable release is now coming from New York seems very appropriate, though. Both cities are rapidly transforming and a triple-post-modern release like this is an echo of the transformation. The old and ancient are re-made/re-modelled, sampled and packaged. It's no longer ironic to be ironic. There is passion in authenticity but authenticity is on the market. If the original Cortina Kidz was a retro-futurist vision of now, the new versions manage to upset the vision and turn it on its head. This single that was never meant to be.'

Mile End Records is pleased to present their latest release, "Slide," which is a collaboration between two undisputed legends of house music: Roy Davis Jr. and Robert Owens.

The song marks the first single off Roy's upcoming full length album for Mile End Records - Destroy and Rebuild - due worldwide later this year. Roy Davis Jr. is known globally for his anthemic catalog of soulful, Chicago-style house with R&B influences. Robert Owens' voice is recognizable on countless house music classics including the seminal "I'll Be Your Friend." Needless to say this meeting of the minds makes perfect sense.

While "Slide" seems predestined to move dance floors, the excitement is in how it accomplishes its magic. A slight acid bass line shimmies away layered in with deep, shifting pads and a short, reverberating stab that creates an upswing in the groove.

Robert Owens sings in the way that only he can, with a slight echo effect leaving lingering trails and creating continuity between multiple vocal parts. Introduced by the onset of piano keys towards the end of the song, the heated singing turns to cool talking.

What would this release be without more heavy hitters on remix duties A fellow Chicagoan with a lengthy history dating back to the '80s, DJ Skull really gives the track an authentic rawness exemplified by that classic era. While based in the UK, Luke Solomon (Classic Music Company) at some point was certainly bit by the Chicago bug, evidenced by his longtime label collaboration with the Windy City's Derrick Carter. Luke really works out the drums in his remix and adds off-kilter bleeps with string like filtered acid sounds.

Moving on to one of Canada's top talents, Andy Roberts (Mixed Signals Music) also reinvents the track's drums, but chooses organs, chimes, and a more hardy bass over the others' 303 sounds. Berkshire's James Blakstar John is up next and holds his own with active, filtered key sounds taking the forefront along with some playful vocal rearrangement.

Roy Davis Jr. and Robert Owens have attracted an all-star cast on Mile End Records that would make it hard for anyone to just let this package slide.

An Italian-Spanish connection is always a good thing. The sort of sensual and Mediterranean emotions that Carlo and Black Loops can deliver, is a skill that has been taken far on this new EP. The dichotomy can prove difficult to square sometimes, particularly when the guys have different paths in their sound. But the mix is rich here. The Intermission EP is a packed full of soul samples, warm pads, and great solid beats wrapped up as a soulful declaration. Their massive love for music really shines through in this EP.

The Disco Fever takeover has prevailed in this special release from one of dance music's most influential figures

DJ Dez aka Andrés returns to Japan's Root Down records for his second 7" on the label. For those that only know Dez from his Andrés releases- you are missing a whole other side of what this guy can do. Dez has been scratching, cutting, and chopping beats for the better part of 20 years as a DJ for Slum Village, a member of Detroit's 12 Tech Mob DJ crew, not to mention countless amounts of productions, mixes and beats for other artists. Here on this 7" - we have two rare examples of Dez's inimitable style - raw, funky and timeless!

Following on the success of their first collaboration, edit king Danny Krivit and Most Excellent Unlimited return with another eminently
useful two-sider. Krivit's reputation hardly needs to be detailed--anyone who has the slightest interest in dance music and DJ
culture will undoubtedly have a quiver of his renowned edits ready to be deployed on discerning dance floors.

'Corazon" was written by the singer/songwriter par excellence Carole King, and first appeared as a single in 1973. The song's soulful latin
flavor immediately caught the ear of the emerging disco movement, spawning cover versions that intensified the percussive groove and
thickened the bottom end. Danny's masterpiece edit seamlessly weaves King's original version with the most notable of these covers,
Creative Source's 1975 take. The jazzy, heavy vibes break has long been an automatic floor-filler in New York City, from the Bronx parks
where it was an early b-boy staple to the downtown Loft scene. This edit is truly the best of both worlds.

'Deep Sky" is of more cloudy origins, a modern counterpoint to the classic on the flip side. The loping groove, accented with strings,
percussion and a nod to the iconic trance birdcall sound effect, builds majestically, its epic 10-and-a-half minutes passing
effortlessly. The mid-tempo pace exudes a quiet energy that makes it an easy fit for a wide variety of rooms.

Both tracks have been mastered from Danny's personal collection and pressed onto high-quality virgin vinyl in extremely limited
quantities.

All the djs and producers around have one secret weapon to play at least. This series is the Equation who join together very special edits from very special artists. It will be out in three volumes in different colours.

Featuring a heavy weight line up of Tom Noble, Heatsick, Peaking Lights and Vezurro, this is an all-bases-covered masterclass is taking Jaakko's pop leanings and giving them some boogie, dub and Italo sparkle.

Hot on the heels of the Steaua de Mare Remixes comes 4 retakes of Jaakko Eino Kalevi's idiosyncratic pop stylings. Licensed from Weird World Records, this sees the multi-instrumentalist's original Dreamzone EP handed over for readjustment.

The up, up boogie vibes of Tom Noble's calling card create his best remix to take. No Fun maybe Jaakko's 'ladies' love hymn, but with Tom's distinctive "never ending" bass and hats loops moving hips, a keys solo and vocal interplay ensure sublime perfection.

Next Steven Warwick's superb Heatsick project implants his twisted casio-rawness in to Jaakko's world, marrying Memories ghostly vocals into a mix of afro-clipped beats and lo-fi melody that just fits.

So happy to finally welcome in friends, family and inspiration, Peaking Lights in to the family. Aaron and Indra's uplifting dub love comes alive in this remix, with live bass grooves, vibing keys and Jaakko's unique vocal riding-a-riddim' all night long.

SUN is the brainchild of Kota Motomura and it's the first song from his project Beat Down 100 Soul. The Japanese DJ/producer from Tokyo has been studying music from the tender age of 14. This Grand Prize winner of Keyboard Magazine's 2009 contest takes the beautiful heydays of Jazz-Hop into the 21st century with his debut single on King Kung Foo Records.
From bar one there's this incredible beat that drives you forward with jazzy staccato chords and some amazing sparkling vibes added further into the track. "When Kenneth asked me to make the album he always had the plan that we would get some remixes done of the tracks. From an early point in the album I was thinking about who I'd love to remix the tracks, and this represents the first part of some serious wish fulfillment!
PEAKING LIGHTS' music I adore, I had the luck to play with Aaron a while ago and we got on very well. It was a total thrill when he agreed to do the remix. I made 'Speedboat' in part as a tribute to (i.e. ripoff of!) the PL sound so there is some very nice symmetry to the remix.
AL BREADWINNER is an incredible Dub producer from Stockport, not far from my house at all. He has an enviable all-analog hardware studio and is constantly producing dubs. He was the very first person on my list to do remixes - 'Rasta Beach' is the most Reggae-ish track on there and to hear it after it's been through his rig is really something.
2814 have emerged this year - a duo who I still haven't met in real life, they transformed the Vaporwave landscape earlier year with their debut album, showcasing incredible compositional tunes. Here they have taken 'Tendacayou' from the hilltop spa and dropped it firmly in a dark cyber dystopia, and it sounds all the better for it.
K-BAG is the man who makes it all happen, the man with the master plan. He sent me a mail and asked for the parts to Dominica a while back. He's taken Dominica and turned it into the ultimate sunset soundtrack... from Cafe Del Mar to the Louisiana museum, this is one to send out over the waves when the sky is turning orange...
