Albrecht La'Brooy's Analogue Attic imprint welcomes Citizen Maze onto its roster with the four-track 'Serenity In The Woods' EP.

Australian duo Albrecht La'Brooy have been steadily carving out a name for themselves over the past few years with their jazz-inflected take on deep house via the likes of Apollo/R&S, Night Tide and of course their own Analogue Attic imprint which has become a home for their own output as well as fellow Australian artists like Sleep D, Rings Around Saturn and more. Here though we see the label offer up the inaugural EP from Melbourne's Adam McCoy aka Citizen Maze.

Leading on the package is the ten-minute 'Natural Playgroun', embracing the labels signature field recording background aesthetic whilst stirring in organic drum grooves, fluttering pads and jazzy sax licks throughout.

'Glade Hollow' follows with bumpy, off-kilter drums and ethereal chords at its core whilst horn lines and twinkling synth melodies wander across its eight-minute duration.

'Moonlight Sanctuary' opens the flip-side, edging into darker territories with murky dubbed out synth flourishes, robust drums and tension building strings before title-track 'Serenity In The Woods' rounds out the package, laying focus on a snaking sub bass groove, metallic percussive shuffles and expansive atmospherics.

Dark Entries reissue the debut 12' single 'Courage' from Scottish band Talking Drums. Formed in Glasgow in 1981 when Charlie and Dot lived above a pub and discovered their downstairs neighbor, Carol, was a sensational singer. They quickly recruited Stewart on bass and Derek on drums and started gigging. Scotland in the early 80s had a live music scene where unsigned bands could gather a serious following and the band played every major city, helped by catchy, indie-pop tunes and Carol's explosive performances. The recorded their debut album 'Fighting To The Finish' all in a week in March 1982 and released it on cassette.

'Courage' was their first vinyl outing in the independent, cottage-industry spirit of the times, originally released on Sticky Music in late 1982. The group added a horn section and congas extending the song to 8 sprawling minutes of dubby disco funk in the vein of ESG and William Onyeabor. The studio owner, Ian, had just bought a new piece of equipment called an Aphex Aural Exciter and put the whole mix through it - maybe one reason why 'Courage' sounds strangely ahead of its time.

For this first time vinyl reissue we've added bonus track 'Lost in the 20th Century' from 1982, previously available only on their debut cassette album. All songs are remastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each copy includes a double sided insert with ephemera, photos and liner notes by the band.

Organic in both sound and nature, 'Konkahs' is a product of the producer's extensive musical exploration up to this point and a creation of fineness. With just snippets of Garvey's delicious voice lacing the track, focus remaing on the slick instrumental layers of a dreamy bassline, ambient, jazzy keyboard melodies and vivid percussion. Each one as divine as the next and all carried by a chilled 111 BPM tempo. CB describes the 'Be-Side' as the 'bubble and squeak' of the EP, using up any 'left overs' from the single. With 12 minutes of gorgeous simplicity and woozygrooves, it seems the 'Be-Side' is as integral to the identity of the EP as the A-side.

After last year's reissues of the Miami based label, Dancefloor, Emotional Rescue returns to the City's music with a look at the affiliated Konduko Records, with a collection of reissues from the acclaimed King Sporty.

A Caribbean musician who found his way to Florida, Noel Williams enjoyed a three-decade career that took in dub, funk, soul and disco that included a number of club hits along the way. To start the series is some of his better-known 80's output, primarily around his in-house project The Ex Tras and three 1982 releases - beginning with the first official reissue of one of his greatest "hits" in Haven't Been Funked Enough.

Initially known as a Jamaican born reggae artist, Williams gained his early tutelage at the legendary Clement Dodd's Studio One, first as studio assistant before making his recording debut as a Deejay in the late 60s. Making the short move north to Miami by the early 70s, he set up first Konduko and later Tashamba Records to release his own music and productions, as well as those of artists he signed and developed.

As the decade progressed King Sporty and his roster's releases developed from soulful reggae singles to the disco tinged sound found on his own, now sought after, Deep Reggae Roots album. The move to a more club based sound continued as disco took hold, with subsequent albums Keep On Burning and Meet Me At The Disco tapping in to the nascent sound with some success and recognition.

Working closely with Henry Stone's TK Disco, Konduko moved in to the 80s with electro and hip-hop increasingly employed as part of Williams' expanding fusion. With vocalists Connie Case and Johnny Griffin on board, a band - The Ex Tras - was formed around Williams dub tinged production.

From the warped electro-dub intro, heavy bass, chopped guitar, a watertight rhythm and driving percussion, Haven't Been Funked Enough mixes many of Williams' traits with an incessant vocals repeated infinitum. Backed with the original - here remastered for heavy rotation - is the never before released Rapstrumental. A merging of the Instrumental found on the flip of the US pressed Konduko 12", with the Rap vocal version found on the UK import TMT release, this 'remix' offers an updated take on what has been the more discerning DJ's play.

This is followed on the B-side by a very special version from the Idjut Boys' Dan Tyler, here in "Nad" moniker mode. After his much heralded remix, alongside Nick The Record, of Carl & Carol Jacob's Robot Jam for the label (ERC022), who to reinterpret such a classic quickly fell on this perfect fit and his long form 'Discomix' offered here is the ultimate rerub. Taking all the versions deep to his mixing well, Tyler's dub heavy reversion twists, turns, fuses, dissembles and reassembles in a reverb(erating) 10 minutes of electro-funk manner of heaven. As Mr Griffin says, "Lets unite, come on, let's live!

Portuguese multi-instrumentalist SAIR and American vocalist and boogie producer Adam Chini are known for their respected releases on the most go-to boogie labels of the moment, like Omega Supreme, Star Creature Universal and Hobo Camp.

They've now teamed up to deliver 2 stunning slices of modern Synthy Soul on Boogie Café's Neon sister label. With Adam's dope vocals on the A and the SAIRs jazzy instrumental on the flip... this is already getting early support from headz worldwide.

An evergreen disco-funk-calypso record, Bunny Mack's 'Let Me Love You' from 1980 was the first commercial hit for the Sierra-Leone-born composer and is now available alongside remixes by DJ Gregory and Moplen on this unmissable 12' vinyl package. Perfectly suited to DJ Gregory's world fusion sensibilities, he worked a remix for Defected in 2008, laying down additional percussion and emphasizing the electric guitar riffs. Italian DJ and vinyl junkie Moplen introduces organ chords and synths in keeping with Bunny Mack's Afro roots on his brand-new remix Discolypsomix. Completed by an Accapella version courtesy of Bunny Mack himself, this is another stellar lightbulb moment of rediscovery from 4 To The Floor.

Having pinned to perfection the sonics of the Adriatic, Croatia's Love International Festival bottles up their blissed out rhythms and sunrise sessions for the inauguration of Love International Recordings, fittingly, with a first release from UK producer Begin.

Bringing the Love International feel to wax and digital, the label will encapsulate the range of music the festival's secluded party paradise has become renowned for. All the way from the balearic tinges of this first release, to the meatier house, techno and electro selections on show at Barbarellas.

Begin aka James Holroyd has a long history with Love International. Dating back to the early 2000s, Holroyd was one of the first guest DJs at the old Garden festival on the former festival site in Petrcane. Long serving Chemical Brothers tour DJ, Back to Basics resident since the 90's and Bugged Out co founder, Begin has long paid his paid his dues to the scene. In the words of Dave Harvey: 'he's been an absolute workhorse in dance music for time'.

Love International 001's tracks seemingly fit the festivals own daily lifecycle. From the docile guitar picking of meditative EP opener 'Wood Trees' to the slow daybreak funk of 'Daypulse' where synths pierce through the track like sun rays through the Adriatic dusk, the EP is a holistic reflection of what one might hear at one of the festival's fabled sunrise sessions. 'Garden Interlude' ushers in a fresh burst of energy, with the revitalizing sounds of piano house, paired with warming neo soul vocals. 'Into The Fun' is a self fulfilling prophecy, closing the EP on a quintessentially balearic note.

The 4 tracks on this EP represent an excellent example of early Kwaito, originally released between 1990-1994. Now available as a limited edition EP only.
Kwaito can be considered an authentic South African phenomenon.
A new urban genre developed in the 1980s, an Afro-dance pop, mainly influenced by mbaqanga and African-American popular styles like hip hop and house. The development of kwaito began at the pinnacle of bubblegum music and when the apartheid era in South Africa was drawing to an end in 1994. Within the new democracy Kwaito soon became The Sound of Young South Africa .

Kwaito instrumentals are usually made entirely of synthesised sound. The tracks are constructed using a fusion of slowed down house music tracks (normally 100 and 120 beats per minute) and African percussion, which forms the core of the rhythmic pattern.
The lyrics in kwaito are normally not sung, but recited in rhythmic speech, usually in Isicamtho or any of the South African official languages.
The origin of the word kwaito comes from the Isicamtho word amakwaitosi (which means gangster). Amakwaitosi derives from the Afrikaans 'kwaai', which means strict or angry.
The association of kwaito with gangsters is because kwaito in itself is all about black ghetto music. To kwaito musicians and their fans alike, the term simply implies that the tracks are 'hot and kicking'.

After being absent for a while, Glance is returning with a uncompromising authentic record on Footjob. It recently has become quieter around the man who used to be a founding member of Running Back, but for this occasion he went and dug in his archives and came back with some beautiful old tracks, just to compile them in a classic, full of groove second Footjob EP. As a bonus he finishes and ends the record with two Downbeat sounding songs in reminiscence of his former genre crossing alter ego Siro. This whole record is pure heat, one for the aficionados. Properly licensed, wonderfully remastered and reissued for the dancefloor! Never afraid to get their hands dirty, the Frigio faithful have gone crate diving for their latest haul of treasure. The material for Ecdisis Vol.1 Lost tracks from the past, patted down, spruced up and given a couple of shots of whiskey by Juanpablo, Dunkeltier and, a new member of the family, Vinilette. From Barcelona, Vinilette is a Dj and producer who isn't afraid to pull a musical punch or two and she is in fighting form with her two offerings.First up, the 1986 EBM stomper 'God Save The King' by Son of Sam is revamped and reconstructed into a psychedelic rollercoaster of crashing cymbals, spiralling samples and bruising bars. The clock is being turned further back, this time Belgium's new wave punk outfit Arbeid Adelt! are the source material with their 1987 track 'Help (Me Ik Stik)' muscling up on a diet of raging rhythms and splintering guitar strings. The head honcho, Juanpablo, meets up with an old member of the family Dunkeltier (aka Dj Sneaker) to finish our journey. The pair travelling back to 1983 to Catalonia and the prog-jazz musings of Pegasus. 'Perseguido por el Rayo' is tuned up and transformed into an electronic bomb. Addictive grooves and hooks are polished with beats getting a shot in the arm for a hauntingly sinister piece of disco deviance.

Yoruba Records original this now classic record in 2008. With its ridiculous driving beat, and one of the most memorable melody lines weve heard on the dance floor, 'Mirror Dance' is another one of those dance floor monstrosities that Afefe Iku seems to naturally pull out of his magic hat. On the B-Side, Osunlade takes it deep with his Yoruba Soul Mix featuring spoken word king Oveous Maximus. With deeper rhythms and a stripped groove, this one takes you back to the basement house parties allowing you to go into trance and zone out to the words of Ove. Brace yourselves, yet again.

In those times of newfound experimental conformity, it is sometimes needed to go back to simplicity. This may be where DJ OIL is leading us to. You think you know what you can expect but common ground is not always in your head, it is sometimes under your feet.

TELEPHUNK is nothing else than a monster breakbeat funk (away from the new Lynn Collins dictatorship), unfashionably cool if you see what we mean.
