Teng launched in 2012 with 'AKRASounds Vol.1 & 2' by label head Nick Woolfson under his AKRA guise. Picking up support along the way from the likes of Chicago Damn, Delano Smith, Will Saul, 6th
Borough Project and DJ Deep. This stands testament to the high quality and attention to detail instilled in the label from its initial movement. Here the label steams in with more solid material to put it on the map with a phenomenal package from Clone / Rush Hour artist Neville Watson, who's trippy, analogue, acidic house cuts have earned him a highly praised reputation within the underground.
Here the release opens with the original version of 'One Four Green', which was initially released on Andy Blake's, World Unknown imprint in 2011 and has been relicensed here due to popular demand. Watson employs the use of his trusty 707 to create a raw, shuffling rhythm while a hooky electronic bass drives the melodic movement alongside warm pad lines and resonating acid style synth shots. Next up is the Deep Space Orchestra remix, the duo's gritty productions have found their way onto the likes of Quintessentials and Home Taping Is Killing Music, and here they deliver yet another powerful, energetic interpretation. Embracing their ability to create soulful, emotive music with insistent, ever-evolving melodies that smoothly play off one another and punchy, loose drums adding an infectious swing, this is classy, low-slung house infused with warmth.
Next up is the Perseus Traxx aka Nigel Rogers mix, the self-proclaimed hardware aficionado provides yet another weighty rework dripping with analogue warmth. Rogers picks up the pace slightly with a more driving feel, the rock-solid progressive groove built upon busy drum-programming and a penetrating bass carries the weight, while an amalgamation of synth lines and fluttering pads surreptitiously meander around it. To close the release Johnny Aux, one half of production outfit Paranoid London, offers up a final mix of 'One Four Green' as a digital only extra, the mix opens with a cutting melodic depth that blossoms for several minutes before Aux strips back the groove to a simple drum and bass driven vibe. The latter stage sees strings re-introduced while subtle variations to the envelope of the bass tones throughout creates an ever-evolving dynamic.
This is yet another outstanding release from the Teng imprint and a clear-cut sign 2013 is going to be an interesting prospect for the label. Neville Watson's 'One Four Green' is out on Teng 18th March 2013.

Coming off the heels of his Son Of Sound 01 EP and Night Shift release on Basement Floor, Henry Maldonado releases yet another Son Of Sound EP on his District 30 imprint. Son Of Sound 02 features 3 tracks that vary in mood, but just as the power-plant on the artwork would suggest, they're all New York and all business.

The A side sets things off with Majik Triken. The early morning uptempo deep house stomper grooves eerily with a combination of dirty drums and a harmonic synth line. The haunting vocal loop creeps its way into the track and carries the groove with the rest of the distorted elements. It's a prime example of what can happen when you take Detroit chords and combine it with a New York style backing track.

Side B kicks off with Please Stand By To Move. Straight-to-the-point 808 drumming opens up the track and leads into to even more tech-house chord action. This one is a deep groover throughout, with the energy intensity building as you ride it. Definitely a track for both New York and Detroit fans alike.

Kool Kontrol slows down the tempo to break-neck speed and takes you on a blissful, soulful journey. The track delivers a slow-paced, washed out groove laced with soulful loops and arpeggios. Its 4/4 drum track and behind-the-beat baseline give it more of a hip-hop feel while reinforcing the soulful edge and keeping the energy cool. Pop the top!.

The Freerange Colour Compilation series reaches it's final conclusion this year, and having reached the ripe old age of ten it's time to go Black. The label compilation which has also spawned many of Freerange's bigger singles continues as it first began, presenting the highlights of the years releases alongside four well-chosen exclusive tracks from established producers and newcomers alike which is what we have here on this sampler release. And yeah, we know black isn't actually a colour but we've run out of coloured card options from the pantone book so it seems a seems a suitable point to draw the series to a close as we go out with a bang on Black 10.
Kicking things off we have a killer production from one the most exciting new Japanese house producers we've come across. Sai wowed Jimpster with his 2011 STHLM and recent Ornate releases so when his demo arrived we were all over it. A La Carte is one of those stand out tracks which oozes class and personifies emotional machine-funk with it's simple Detroit chords, nagging bass and raw drums. When the new bass line drops in the break things go up a gear and at the risk of sounding like a right hippy, you really can feel the whole dancefloor come together and share a proper moment. Definitely a special track when dropped at the right time.
Next up next we have yet more fresh young talent, this time from Hamburg and going by the name of Suburb. With just one previous release on Hafendisko the young duo have penned their own sound with clear old school house references but crunched up and sample-heavy for the modern dancefloor. Aspiration keeps the groove shuffling whilst lush rhodes pads loop and a distant tripped out vocal keep the vibe raw and underground.
Two well known and respected producers join forces next with a new project going by the name of Bellavoid. Moments is a high-energy slice of house euphoria laden with spine-tingling chords and reach-for-the-raers strings underpinned with crisp, stripped back beats. We're thinking Milton Jackson meets Orbital at Raindance in 1991.
Closing the EP we have someone who will be a new name to many but hopefully not for long - Mark Hand. On Don't Take It All Away we are treated to an extended soulful beatdown jam featuring the vocals of Vicky Jackson. A perfect last track, this should leave every last one of you blissed-out and heartened by its smokey, sensual groove.

Three modern cuts created from a new swedish duo, Mount Liberation Unlimited. The duo have a long heritage in the swedish indie-pop scene but have now taken it further. With a lot of inspiration from techno and house have the appearence become something between indiepop and house, with a great body of analogue expression. Junk Yard Connections is super happy to give out this lovely debut EP!

Whoever knows of Toi Toi Musik will know they have become synonymous with underground quality and for keeping things close and personal for their events and agency. Well, with their new label it's no different; they stay very true to their identity (a good mix of English and German) and their quality. The 1st EP is produced by the legendary Mr G. Inspired after playing live at one of their events he wrote the track 'Toi Toi', which was later released on D'Julz's Bassculture label. As a consequence, his relationship with the couple is so personal he nurtured them to open their own label and offered them 3 tracks for TT01 called 'Much Love EP'. The 4th track is a remix by 'HelloRepeat' co-owner Daze Maxim, who has been a guest resident for the party for nearly its entire existence.

Benjamin Brunn's first full-length since Songs From The Beehive with Move D, leaving aside his recent Colour Tracks which was a history of EDM. Ranging from Techno to Ambient on this album, his use of the Nord Modular synth is one of the defining characteristics of his sound. He uses the instrument in a wide-ranging and original way, accompanied by a Roland TR707 drum machine. Compiled over two years from tracks sent to Third Ear, A Sun Life shows Benjamin Brunn achieving something like a perfection of his sound. Nixwax are thrilled to welcome Jackson Blumenthal into the fold as the second in the new 'Black and White Label' series.
AYHP is a track of two halves, making it perfect to be cut (exclusively) to vinyl; a quick glance at the surface will tell you how you want to play it. The first part lays down a solid groove leading to a hypnotising breakdown which, played at the right moment, will make for
the most memorable tune of the night. Jackson then takes you back into the mesmerising rhythm, saturated with cheeky delays and intricate ear candy for the more discerning listeners.
Working on the philosophy that one chord works, two chords is pushing it and three chords is basically jazz, the B side, "CFOE" is a roller that has been getting the support of the Fuse London gang, Archie Hamilton, Claus Voigtmann and Moxie to name but a few. With an infectious bassline and an airy sense of space, this one has been doing the business whenever it's been played out and about. The AYHP remix is something different to round off the record, to which Morris Cowan brings the same magic that made his Wigflex album, Six Degrees, one of our favourites of 2013. Taking the vocal elements from the breakdown as his starting point, Morris expertly reinvents the A-side with his own style and sound in full effect.

Real house master Phil Weeks makes his debut on Guy Gerber's Supplement Facts imprint with a trio of dancefloor bombs packed with his signature bump, funk and bass. Title track 'Sharks Looking For Fishes' is a fuzzy, warm affair with warping pads and shimmering cow-bells building with dusty samples combined with a jacking bassline. On the B-side 'Bees Assault' is pure heads down techy business, unhinged and driving it's the peak time banger of the release and an assault on the senses. Lastly, 'Hold Onto The Memories' brings back the French deep touch with another solid jacking groove and faded vox.

Parisian DJ/Producer Phil Weeks is a purist plain and simple and has channelled his unwavering passion for unadulterated house almost exclusively through his own label Robsoul Recordings, established in 1999 and now one of the most consistent and respected labels in the business.

Weeks released his highly acclaimed debut album 'Love Affair LP' in 2011 on Robsoul and the label is also home to releases from house royalty such as Derrick Carter, DJ Sneak, David Duriez and Chris Carrier. Weeks has also collaborated on a number of productions with Chicago hero DJ Sneak as well as fellow French innovators Chris Carrier and Dan Ghenacia.

Phil Weeks will be a guest at Guy Gerber's Wisdom Of The Glove party on 28th August at Pacha, Ibiza and it's an honour to have him on the Supplement Facts imprint for this killer release. Bringing a mix of old-school Chicago with nu-school French flair, Phil Weeks has and always will be dedicated to delivering proper house music through his DJing, productions, label Robsoul and now through his Crate Diggin' project that started in 2013 and further proves Weeks as a master of selection.

Oskar Offermann and his frequent collaborator and label mate Edward are two of the brightest rising stars in contemporary deep house music.
As head of the esteemed WHITE imprint, Offermann has an envious catalog spread across his own label, Aim, and Japan's storied Mule Musiq; Edward has mostly confined his releases to WHITE apart from a single drop on the mysterious Giegling, and some outstanding remixes on other powerhouse labels. Since their appearance in 2007, the pair of Berliners has only one collaboration record between them in spite of a close association, large individual discographies, and frequent pairings behind the decks. It is thus with great ceremony that THEMA announces their North American vinyl debut with the four-track EP, Verses.

We've been following Oskar and Edward for quite some time now, and even given our familiarity with their music, the ominous, shadowy chug of the intro track 'What Have We Become', is a contrast to the studied, Smallville-esque deep house that they're better known for. Aside from a lonely keyboard melody and an occasionally- comprehensible monologue low in the mix, the throbbing bass and druggy feel of the opener are left remarkably alone for the duration. 'Paranoid' is similarly darkened,a slowed-down, droning house piece that begins in unnerving, acidic ambience and steadily brightens by its end as more traditional deep house melody enters in the pads. Two contrasting versions of 'Sunrise' fill the second side: the first an old-school leaning minimal acid track, and the second an 'Underwater Dub' that's unexpectedly the most extroverted of the four. The repeating sequence of the original version is echoed in a high-pitched acid line that slowly changes timbre over the duration, with the only major shift occurring at the midpoint with the addition of a single-syllable vocal sample. It's heady stuff best suited for deep afterhours but unashamedly tailored for the floor. Centering itself around crunchy, slowly jacking percussion, the haunting acid takes center stage for the dub mix, and again vocal samples provide a subtle impetus and change while the circling drums power to the end.

Surely this is music whose origins are found in unending Berlin nights, but we at THEMA are proud to bring it across the Atlantic for new ears. Here or there, Oskar and Edward's talents stand unquestioned and their reputations entirely earned.

King Street Sounds and Dope Jams team up again in re-releasing more fine jewels from NYC's heyday, all featured on the latter's celebrated 2012 "Classic House Grooves" offering. First up is DJ Romain's "All Day, All Night," a jubilant, vocal-sample laden masterpiece that's an excellent example of mid-1990's cut-up and spliced deep house craftsmanship at its best. Rounding things off are a couple of vocals from the NY garage fold: the breathtaking and silky-smooth precision of Eric Kupper's remix of "What Do I Gotta Do" by Urban Soul, and Bassmental's "It's The Music," a classic statement of purpose conjured by the collaborative genius of Kerri Chandler and Yahya McDougald. Essential and immortal dance music reissued for generations old and new.

The ultimate purist. An enduring visionary. Ian Pooley shares the next part of his legacy with his fifth album, 'What I Do', after a four year hiatus. Ian Pooley is a rarity. Twenty years into his professional career, he is regarded as both a cult underground DJ and established mainstream producer. As one of the only artists that walk the path between the two, his latest work builds on his past and delivers a polished body of work that sounds both classic and fresh. In the past Pooley has scoured influences from around the globe - Detroit, Chicago, Brazil, playing with funk with an emphasis on the groove. Over the course of fifteen tracks, 'What I Do' walks a similarly tactile path, refreshing the listener on Pooley's full-bodied and engaging approach but realigning his signature sound. "The new album is more raw. I produced a lot of the tracks in the old school way, how I used to work in the nineties. All the sounds were created and programmed on analog gear," Ian Pooley explains.

Vinyl only, no repress!PHORMA introduces REMINISCENT MOOD: a side-project of a well-known German producer whose identity is kept veiled. The Reminiscent Mood project creates Maurizio inspired and concept driven dub techno tracks with a timeless aura.

In the ever-expanding universe of deep house, Julius Steinhoff is far from being a stranger. Half of the dynamic duo Smallpeople, founder and one of the steersmen behind Hamburg's Smallville empire (record store/ label/ party curator around the globe) as well as a producer and DJ in his own right, Steinhoff is closely associated with a group of like-minded people that unite fresh ideas and individualism with a certain consciousness of tradition. That 'Flocking Behaviour' is well embodied in Steinhoff's debut album by the same name. After a string of 12-inches for the likes of Live at Robert Johnson, Geography or his own-brand Smallville and the very well-received Smallpeople long-player 'Salty Days", Julius Steinhoff makes a submission that is all his. Rooted in the elegiac variety of the big three (New York, Chicago & Detroit) and a romantic concept of house music that is at times utopian, the album gathers eight tracks that evoke late nights, hazy mornings and walks on thin air. But 'Flocking Behaviour' is by no means anachronistic: Tracks like 'Under A Waterfall' could be made in just the same manner by a puerile Baby Ford in 1989 as they represent a swaying dance floor in 2014. 'Treehouse' or the title track 'Flocking Behaviour' are experiences that make you feel like meeting new people who instantly greet you like old friends. With someone that works and lives in the here and now, Steinhoff seemingly has no interest in revisionism, complains or antagonism, his approach is welcoming and caring, embracing and mesmerizing. Along the way, his musical apparatus never makes use of cheap tricks or antique clichés.

Circling Sydney as the most prodigious producers in their adopted home, Tuff Sherm (Perth-born Eugene Hector / Dro Carey) and Cassius Select (Canada's Lavurn Lee / Guerre) guise-up for a split 12 that follows Dro's seven-date debut European tour, and Cassius' breakout ONE EP on Gardland's Hunter Gatherer imprint. Returning home after a string of releases via Merok, RAMP, Opal Tapes and The Trilogy Tapes, Tuff Sherm shifts the counter-balanced brilliance of Dro Carey with 'Beast Numeral' - a six-minute succession of classic house jaunts. Revealing a more positively playful side on 'Topaz Looper', Sherm continues to surprise in the footsteps of fans such as Ben UFO, Mark Pritchard and L.I.E.S founder Ron Morelli. Clocking stages with Australian heavyweights Jagwar Ma and HTRK whilst stringing supports for Four Tet and Jamie xx alike, Cassius Select finally goes to print with two cold-cut workouts flipped on an affinity for city-side recesses. Proving Australia's most unkempt secret since his early days under the bedroom R 'n' B alias Guerre, 'Bruv' now sees Lee splice and scrape classic taunts into a knockabout elegy to the UK's MC heyday. Skittered up until the blown kick and bass serve of 'Rete Avec Ou', Cassius locks out on a pummelling ode to distance and disconnection, ringing in the end for a true-to-form take on mother-country confusion with enthralling results. The next release on contemporary scarecrow comes from Chicago house legend Boo Williams. This double pack features 8 tracks of quality Chicago house to complete another solid release on this rising Australian label.

LAAK return on Austere with four cuts, only available on vinyl as usual. LAAK are on point with the opening track Unbalanced, an intensely gritty track. There is also a remix of an archive LAAK track by DJ Spider who completely dismantles the original to create a dark menacing remix. The B side kicks off with Mental & Emotional which continues the theme along with the more laid back track, the Rituals. Overall an ep that will not disappoint fans of the label.

arrival and showcased the young artist's steadfast style.
Having honed his craft at home, in 2004 Davide left
Naples for Barcelona unwavering in his resolve. Now,
while touring around the continent, he began to release
in earnest what would become a massive body of work,
and at a dizzying pace. His productions have graced the
catalogs of some of the finest labels including Ovum,
Sci+Tec, Morris Audio, Resopal Schallware,
Supernature, CMYK, Adagio, Viva, Nervous, Saved,
Shake, Rillis; the list goes on...Added to that, you have
to take into account the labels which Davide founded
and still curatestoday - Sketch, Minisketch, Vir, 500,
Titbit and Hideout. 2012 sees the start of Davide's latest
innovative project. This and That Lab will be a unique
fusion of label and think tank combining music, art and
culture used as a platform for Davide and other like
minded artists to develop creative projects in music,
visual art, design, fashion and writing. His signature
sets, revered by the masses and peers alike, do a
double duty in guarding our much-loved traditions while
constantly pushing them forward. Sascha Dive from

among the most promising new talents in Germany. in

Between the two of them, Jenifa Mayanja and Lola (aka Dakini9) have over 20 years experience in NYC's electronic music community. Here, they have combined forces for the first time to launch a new label and music collective: Sound Warrior.
Jenifa & Lola envision Sound Warrior as a forum for developing and promoting women electronic music producers. Based on their own, and the combined wisdom of other women in the scene, Jenifa & Lola decided to create this platform as a community for women electronic music artists, and hope to grow the idea into far beyond a record label.
Starting things off with a split 12', Jen and Lola deliver two distinct takes on percussion-heavy, ritualistic deep house.
