Going Good's first release of 2018 is indeed a very special one.

Cosmic Handshakes sees the pairing of 2 extremely talented Detroit natives - Blair French & Todd Modes - who take elements of Disco, Techno, Jazz, House, Afrobeat, Latin music, Dub and Electronics and filter them through their own unique view of dance music. Steeped in soul, live instrumentation, sampling and analogous alchemical studio processes, French & Modes give us an exhilarating and fresh take on the deepest smoked out, after hours sounds of the city of Detroit.

'In The Mist' is the duo's second release, following on from 2013's 'The Delicate Details', released on the M1 Sessions imprint. The last 2-3 years has seen the pair individually release music on a plethora of varied and esteemed global labels such as FIT Sounds, Claremont 56, Rocksteady Discos and more.


A compelling body of work from front to back, the tracks on 'In The Mist' work perfectly as a self contained home listener, or as we've found, just as well on a darkened dancefloor, leaving the choice up to you, the listener.

Heart throbbing journeys from Leonid Nevermind opens up a flood of soft-focus house tracks with colorful and melting melodies leading directly to the soul love. Raw and naked emotions through spacious and atmospheric sound among Chicago and electro Balearic riffs.

Still, I like to listen to them from time to time, thinking of how I was back then, reminding me of what helped shape me, what helped me become who I am now. Sometimes, I also get the feeling that it is not me who wrote the stories. They seem to seem unknown to me, just like they seem to you, because you are not me. Then I listen, and I know again.

Too late for this year's Christmas festivities, but hopefully still an acceptable gift for vinyl enthusiasts: two previously digital-only tracks from the Running Back(catalogue) on one split-10-plate.

Following his first ep for Accidental Jnr in the summer Bambooman is now back with something entirely different. The downtempo experimental designs of the 'Feel EP' give way to his latest offering 'Shudder'. Available on 12' and digital the 4 tracks of Shudder weave through a club music tapestry like a chainsaw through custard. The opening and title track is hard to describe, a mix of off kilter synth stabs and hammering snare that routes you to the floor - it's one of those tracks to whip out of your bag to remind the crowd they have no idea what is coming next. Track 2 'Grasp' with a blissful Detroit groove under deep rich melting chords is a perfect blend of early funk house style and super crisp new production.Side B opens with 'M1' a lazy floor track with washes of bells, static and detuned synth above a bed of solid kick and shuffling bass. Finally 'Kyrian' closes proceedings, another club friendly slice (despite being in a 7/8 time signature), the track could have led the EP in its own right but feels like the perfect bookend with its shifting almost garage like 2-step feel and glancing vocal hook.Bambooman wields refined live recordings, warm exquisite melodies and a silvery vocal into the track's rich musical fabric. Franck Roger reunites with vocal powerhouse Mandel Turner for one of the year's most infectious tracks, 'Through The Motions'. The product of a melting pot of inspirations, 'Through The Motions' features a hilarious spoken-word sample, Mandel's ultra smooth vocal contribution and louche, hypnotic atmosphere underpinned by a laid back BPM.Franck and Mandel first got together on one of last year's dancefloor smashes, the superlative 'After All'. The twosome found common ground through their love of eighties and nineties New York musical culture. Mandel being one of the fortunate few to have spent time at Larry Levan's Paradise Garage, where the magic really happened week in, week out for over a decade between the mid- seventies and mid-eighties. Franck and Mandel formed a strong friendship and decided to continue their working relationship by reuniting for 'Through The Motions'.Franck concocted the track's continuous linear beat after finding inspiration in one of his favourite tracks, the cult classic 'Make Me Dance (Hard For The DJ) by Nu Groove legend Basil Hardhaus. When WPH boss Red D heard 'Toriton' being played by Ken Ishii during a WPH radio takeover on Belgium's Studio Brussel radio station he ran to the booth and knew this track had WPH written all over it. Not abiding to any trends, just devastatingly beautiful house music.

Some licence negotiations and months later Satoshi Fumi agreed and made 'Lalalalaland', a brand new track to go along with 'Toriton' and make up this E.P.

The title track has that unmistakable Detroit feel that takes you from melancholy to euphoria and back, while 'Lalalalaland' has been described by people hearing it in Red D's sets this summer as 'Japanese sunset trance' or 'end of the night eyes closed hands in the air stuff'.

Whatever the words, it's the music that counts and Satoshi Fumi takes his place among the WPH family in style!

Abstract Music hits release number four with a firing new EP from Budai. His one original gets remixed by
Obrotka and Basti Grub and it makes for another great package. Budai is a Hungarian producer who has been kicking out
the jams since 1997. He has released on labels like Universal and Foundation and many more.
His cut here Katmandu is a playful party starting house tune with wonky synths and big vocal line that is classic and fun.

Up first to remix is Basti Grub, and he layers in more wild synths, percolating percussive sounds and big chords
and the whole thing carries you away on a nicely colourful groove.
Another Hungarian in the form of Obrotka then adds another remix, and takes one main time bomb.
Deep and dynamic with lots of moody grooves all sucking you in.
