Glenn Astro, elevates Bossa B to a jostling, bouncing shuffler that eventually turns around and heads skyward with uplifting chords and irresistible bass.
Deoke heads into the darker regions of the original for his huge remix of Bossa B. Finally the ever exceptional Mr Beatnick simply took the stereo track for Kalimba 2 and edited it into a mind-opening dub. Handling bass and harmonics as only he can, a true highlight of this high quality remix package.

Frits Wentink's Bobby Donny label returns with a new EP from Icelandic producer Felix Leifur. It's not often someone other than the boss releases on this
label so you know this new one is quality indeed.
Leifur—who also works as David & Hjalti and Davíð Sveinn Bjarnason — has two solid EPs to his name on Dirt Crew.
They show him to be a producer of succulent deep house and atmospheric prone beats. Across four cuts here he offers jazzy vibes, organic percussive
patterns and authentic styles filled with warmth and soul.
Opener 'Unidentified Blues' is a loose jumbled of hi hats and cymbals, Rhodes chords and shuffling drums that could well come from the studio of a certain Moodymann.
They are alive and enriched with real feeling from start to finish. 'Hampton' is another tender fusion of deep kick drums, tape echo and curious melodies all tied together by jostling groove that is beautifully incidental and unhurried. 'Contact' then brings more proper jazz drums to the table, with distant sax sounds and closely miced hits and spaces of cymbal all feeling loose and free as they suck you into their world. Last of all, 'Universal Rim' picks up the pace with a more rooted house groove, freeform percussion and wooden hits and trilling, echo drenched
melodies all making for an intoxicating cut.

From Da Vaults... Nettles is a new series from Red Rack'ems Bergerac label which will focus on the more sample based end of things. Tracks which have remained secret weapons for many years will finally see the light of day. This first release features music which was played by quite a few heavy hitters but sadly remained lost on the hard drive...until now...'Bill George' starts of as a super funky, cut up electro disco jam which morphs into the mother of all breakdowns before drifting into super deep Detroit style house and then peaking back to the original electro funk vibes. A secret weapon for the likes of Crazy P (who featured it on their Beats In Space mix way back in 2010) and one of Red Rack'em most 'unreleased tracks requested for release', there's going to be quite a few people around the world celebrating Bill George finally making it to wax. A 30 second piece of incidental music from a long lost German children's television series is extended into a late night disco jam 'Timm' which picked up props from none other than Todd Terje when Danny extended it back in the Hot Coins edit days of 2007. Another 'lost' track which is finally seeing release.... 'Transfer List' began life as a hip hop beat which ended up being such an epic opus that the full glory of the track had to be unleashed. Once again a Cdr classic for a trusted few. A super funky beat evolves into a kind of honky tonk vibe sort of on the KMD tip but with added poppy vocals. Made in 2003

Jaxx Madicine is a jazz-funk inspired house-ish outfit from Milan consisting of Turbojazz (Local Talk, GAMM Records), Parker Madicine (Heist, Bastard Jazz Brooklyn, CT-HI Records) and the talented jazz keyboardist 'Veez_0'.

With an organic and melodic sound collage you can hear influences from classic 70's jazz funk labels and artists like CTI, Mizell Brothers, Kudu and Bob James but also the current sounds of Kaidi Tatham, Byron The Aquarius and Harvey Sutherland.

After their debut EP 'Montreux' they are now ready to drop their full album 'Distant Classic' where the Jaxx crew exit planet earth and treat us to a space music odyssey that is full of surprises.
During the journey they deliver house, jazz, fusion, boogie and jazzy beats from a highly melodic keyboard perspective.

The Patchouli Brothers first began throwing parties in an Albanian dive bar in Toronto's east end, but have gone on to grace the stage at a spectrum of the city's establishments.

They hold down a residency at a rotating disco jam called Beam Me Up which, while held monthly at the Piston, has taken place in a film studio, an artist commune, above a furniture store and inside the Great Hall.

Their debut 12" for Basic Fingers features two cuts.
First up 'Wicked One', a fiery slice of gospel served with a rich piano hook.
On the flip we're treated to 'Magic Rhythm (Of Love)', a masterclass in pure disco-funk insanity.

OK. This is an anthem. You know 'Dance' already, right HUGE Pal Joey jam from way back in 1990 The one that flips Carl Bean's 'I Was Born This Way' into the stratosphere Yeah, that's it! Except this is that track reimagined by 2 killer producers, flipped and edited into the cosmos by the New Jersey legend Kerri Chandler and the West Coast's Onionz, probably the only producers who could touch such a stone cold classic and actually bring something to the table! Originally out in 2002 these 2 edits / mixes are total weapons, you need this 12 in your bag. Everything is touched, tweaked and blended in just the right way and full respect is given to the mixes. This isn't no fly by night re-edit thing, this is heavyweight's bringing us some heat and their interpretation of a track that was obviously a huge deal for them on a personal level. Do not snooze on this, masterfully repressed, with the full consent of everyone involved and remastered on a solid 12 for you all. Tip!

Following a number of exciting tunes released on the renowned Quintessentials, here comes Mat Chiavaroli's first long-player 'No Stranger To Madness". Warm Fostex tape hisses and MPC swings, the guy from the Pescara hills delivers 10 tracks for both your dancing and listening pleasure. The A- and B-side tracks are drenched in dusty funk samples, gritty chords and syncopated rhythms. In 'Aroma De Mi Vida' Mat chops obscure Rhodes riffs and layering them with more elements, just like in 'Whoja Vu", a heavy-sampled disco juggler very close to his previous Quintessentials releases. On the flip we find some deep chords melting with powerful gospel vocals, giving life to a track that annihilates boring dancefloors. There's a similar vibe in 'Jeep Ridaz' that reminisces about seminal Atavisme classics with broken detuned bits and agitated cut and pastes give a sense of randomness. The second part of this album shows Mat Chiavaroli's deeper side. 'Double Pain' is a tune that progressively brings you to many aspects of what Mat loves: saturated female vocals stick out while gloomy chords gently develop. 'Storia Losca' has a slightly different attitude with a huge synth presence, live percussion and dreamy pianos. The D side opens with 'The Quiet Bobobo", a distorted floor delight and ends with something closer to Mat's early music, disclosing a fresh collaboration with the young studio fellow P.Lok. 'No Stranger To Madness' fits many bills and is an impressive proof of what Mat's musical ability is.

Prima Norsk 1-3 was a series of compilation CD's released on Beatservice Records in 2000, 2003 and 2005. "Prima Norsk" was a slogan for Norwegian vegetables back then, meaning something like "1st class Norwegian". First adopted to a club concept, and then re-adopted for the compilations series. The concept for these compilations was to collect and present house-tracks from Norwegian producers, available on more or less limited vinyl 12"-ers on various European labels (some self-released), and a few exclusive tracks.

Now, the Norwegian house scene is more alive than ever, and thanks to the digital revolution, the worldwide availability is far better than it was at the time of Prima Norsk 1-3. Prima Norsk 4 is thus focusing on exclusive tracks from the vibrating scene of today. The compilation includes exclusive material from artist already familiar on the international house scene, along with fresh stuff from new names.

Frits Wentink's next release on his own Bobby Donny label finds him editing some tracks he has been playing on his radio show for a while. They are originally by Vertiqua, a German lo-fi hip hop producer that remains unknown.
The vinyl only record is limited to 500 copies.
All four of these tracks have been edited to make them more suited to the dance floor. The a side comes as an edit that is all about woozy chords and loose, bumpy drums with a rapped vocal stitched deep into the arrangement. It's warm and intake for cosy dance floors.The B1 has organic boom bap drums and kicks, more tape delayed chords and a nice analogue feel all finished with a wordless but beautifully soul-infused vocal.
Last of all, the louche drums of on B2 are coated in vinyl crackle and laced up with more intoxicating and imperfect chords.
This is a perfectly aged combination of hip hop and house that will get any floor bouncing. Limited 12 Inch hand numbered vinyl.

Wewantsounds is proud to announce the release of Hiroshi Sato's ultra rare synth masterpiece, originally released in 1979 on Kitty Records in Japan only. Digitally remastered from the original tapes it features the cream of Japanese musicians including Shigeru Suzuki on guitar, Haruomi Hosono on bass, Pecker on Percussion and Sato himself on keyboards and synthesizers. This highly sought-after album is a superb breezy mix of Japanese synth- pop with a subtle touch of mid 70s Herbie Hancock-style funk and AOR.
Fully remastered from the original Kitty Records tapes by Universal Japan, the album will come with its original 4-page colour insert including English translations of the original liner notes by leading Japanese journalist Yasufumi Amatatsu plus the full track-by-track musician line up.
The album includes such cult tracks as Son Go Kuw' and Jo-Do' popular on the international DJ scene.

05AM contains two Bollywood bangers, loudly pressed - each on a 45rpm side of the record.Afrobot's cut is a raw and fast percussive acid track, just wait till that 303 comes in, Indians already knew in '83 what to do with that machine. For the other side Thee J Johanz, big Bollywood expert and collector, delivered an edit that could be considered the Bollywood answer to Yali Yali, that Jesus Christ Super Star theme in a funky Bolly Disco version, updated for nowadays club systems.Frank Koedood drew us a monkey this time!

Spearheaded by Stuart Leath, Emotional Rescue is a label committed to unearthing forgotten gems and giving them the exposure they richly deserve, with all releases officially licensed by the artist and remastered in full. This 12" sees two classic tracks by the world music collective Suns of Arqa take pride of place. Incorporating elements of raga and dub, "Brujo Magic" is a much more straightforward dancefloor number than its description would suggest, with its rolling bassline and vocoder effects fusing irresistibly with its psyche-rock styles. On the B-Side, "Ananta Snake Dance" combines traditional Indian percussion and harmonium with conventional drumming to create something completely unique. A strong start to what will no doubt be an indispensable label.

THE TRIBE OF GOOD is a brand new supergroup collective headed up by multi Grammy-nominated dance producer Hal Ritson (Duke Dumont/Sigma/Dizzee Rascal/Katy Perry/The Young Punx/High Contrast... ) re-imagining the classic sounds of Soul, Disco and Funk for the 21st Century.

The debut track Loving You Baby' features production by Fatboy Slim's Skint records protege Thomas Gandey / Cagedbaby, and vocals from the exceptional dTale (Sigma / Dizzee Rascal).

After early independent copies were played heavily on BBC 6Music and playlisted by Mi-Soul radio plus FM4 and Ego FM in Germany the track is now back for a full release including a new house remix from Toolroom favourite Weiss who as had a superb 4 years in the limelight, remixing for the likes of MK, Icarus and Gorgon City. The Weiss remix was recently premiered on Radio One's essential mix by Pete Tong. It reached number 1 in the Buzz Chart (11-01-18).

Blurt are perhaps the act who have played live at Optimo more than any other. Active for close to 40 years they are one of the UK's all time great acts, phenomenal live and on record and supremely underrated.
Blurt mainman Ted Milton is a living legend. Now in his 70s but more vibrant on stage than most artists 50 years his junior, he is a man of many talents; artist, poet, musician, performer....
In 1984 he released a solo 12'; 'Love Is Like A Violence', a no doubt accidental dancefloor gem completely out of kilter with any other music of the era that now makes total sense in 2017. Dubbed-out stabs, programmed rhythm, trademark sax squeals and a more subdued than normal vocal that is strangely reminiscent of Vincent Price. Thee definition of a cult classic and much in demand, side A of this 12' presents the A and B side (the equally outre 'It's Only Recently That Stalins Have Begun To Roost') of this mighty 12' on one side of vinyl.
'The Ruminant Plinth' is but one of multiple classic tracks in the Blurt catalogue and is a long, long time personal favourite that takes pride of place of the other side. Tribal hypno rhythms, chicken wire guitar, sax and Milton's voice on fire, this was a genuine party starter on the Optimo dance floor on Sunday nights Glasgow. So louche it should probably be banned.

First Word close out 2017 with the return of Kaidi Tatham, following up his 'Changing Times' EP for us, with another killer 4-tracker - this one entitled 'Hard Times'.

To bring you up to speed, Kaidi is probably best known for his work with Bugz In The Attic. His body of work includes musical contributions for artists including Amy Winehouse, Slum Village, Mulatu Astatke, Soul II Soul, Leroy Burgess, Amp Fiddler, Macy Gray, King Britt, DJ Spinna, Mr Scruff and IG Culture.

Earlier this year, he was an integral part of DJ Jazzy Jeff's incredible PLAYlist project, most notably releasing the album 'Chasing Goosebumps', also featuring Glenn Lewis, Stro Elliot, Masego, Daniel Crawford and a whole host more. Most recently he was part of Jeff and Will Smith's (The Fresh Prince) reunion tour across Europe, and added releases to his already impressive catalogue on 2000 Black and Theo Parrish's Sound Signature, with regular compadre, Dego.

The EP kicks off with the title track 'Hard Times', a mid-tempo slice of infectious nu-funk. 'I See What You See' starts with Kaidi's infamous rhodes licks, before dropping to some heads-down latin-tinged percussion and hefty basslines. We maintain the latin funk bruk boogie with the mighty 'Super Lion', and close out the set with a soaring synth and lush piano-led 105BPM groove called 'We All Breathe The Same Air'. Each track exemplifies the articulate proficiency of Kaidi's talents, and cement just why he's so revered by so many.

The harder the times get, the more imperative our need to let off some sweat on the dancefloor.

Denney cut his teeth at the legendary Back To Basics in Leeds, where he now holds a residency. Breakbeat Paradise Recordings is back with another big vinyl release from the amazing producer due Lack Jemmon, which consists of DJ Clairvo and Kid Panel, who are both well-established producers, DJs and label owners on their own.
