After having consolidated the bases of his parallel projects, Vincent Desmont returns to VDR

Yosh returns with his fourth Time Is Now release. Following the success of UKG-focused 5-tracker, "The Warning" released at the end of last year, Modulate EP sees the London producer put his inimitable spin on breaks, translating into 4 tracks firmly rooted in the genre's antecedents yet offering something distinctly new.

"New Dawn" is a prime example of Yosh's priceless ability to create something which is at once hard-hitting and soulful with clattering breaks and luscious vocals which float blissfully above them. Next up, "Modulate" adds a thumping 4/4 beat into the equation, creating an assertive march with plenty of swing before "Snap Back" brings the ruffage with a sharp two-step rhythm and fierce bass womps. Finally, it's up to "Track 1" to close proceedings. A real heater, a syncopated triplet rhythm lends it its driving propulsion - almost resembling the club sounds native to northeastern regions of the US such as Jersey and Baltimore. Thudding assertively beneath the stylistic tropes of UKG, this makes for a truly unique sound and solidifies Yosh's status as a highly innovative and forward-facing producer.

Next up on Seasons Series is an upbeat 5-tracker from Berlin-based producer, Carlo, who offers an exuberant respite from the context of urban seclusion out of which it was imagined.

Since his debut release back in 2009, the Spanish-born house connoisseur has well and truly mastered his craft: music that strikes the balance perfectly between the transportive, meditative potential of deep house and disco's danceable groove. where is everybody? EP is the product of this discovery. Lilting deep house track "Sensitive Response" sets the EP's feel-good tone whilst the title track picks up the energy with undertones of disco and funk.

On "Earth Two", Carlo teams up with Netherlands-based producer, Retromigration, to deliver a skippy sax-infused banger which lets you melt into its groove. Sampling a goodnight voicenote from his young son, "Noche" sees the EP at its most contemplative, a meditation on the isolating impact of lockdown. Finally, the tech-house sensibilities of the EP's closer "Moving Forward" leaves things on a positive note with a meandering funk bassline and blissful vocals.

Where Is Everybody?

The enigmatic DJ/producer has established himself as one of the most exciting newer acts associated with Watergate, releasing on the club’s home label, Freerange and Objektivity in recent years. He’s also
most notably spearheaded the RISE monthly club night and associated Rise Music imprint, as a passionate proponent of the Afro house scene in Berlin, while building an ever-growing fanbase off the
back of his lauded Boiler Room last summer. His contribution to the storied Watergate mix series is certainly richly deserved.
‘The Message’ EP exhibits Hyenah’s irresistibly warm and groovy sound across a collection of impressions. The title track features former Bonobo collaborator Bajka on vocals and is a composition
brimming with soul that espouses a message of empowerment, underpinned by hip-swaying percussion and uplifting synth stabs. Henrik Schwarz delivers a pair of classy remixes. The first, re-focuses the track’s energy around a funky undulating synthline that builds towards an intriguing finish. The Dub version may have stripped out the vocal, but in trademark Schwarz style, the remaining instrumental is high soaring musical drama. Hyenah links with fellow RISE founder Floyd Lavine for ‘Soul Rise’, a superb Afro groover that’s intricate and colourful in equal doses and a timely reminder of why there’s so much
excitement surrounding the talented pair. ‘Warm Drum’ is simple, yet extremely effective, as a catchy key pattern loops with intensity before punchy bass drops into focus and brings the party.
Hyenah close out the EP alongside vocalist Lazarusman with ‘Not Enough’, a hymn to anti-racism, that’s not only vital in its message, but stirring with its musical impact.

Under his Lew E moniker, Lewie Day takes 'Go On' for a trip to trance-town. Brooding minor key menace as Alia Seror-O'Neil's melancholic vocal gets twisted into strange shapes, eventually becoming an instrument of its own. Mutating from the organic to the synthetic during an adrenaline-racing breakdown. Day sounds like he's having a great deal of fun playing with and defying the conventions of the genre.
Maara explores a similar space on her re-rub of 'My Baby's Got It Out For Me'. Once again, Seror-O'Neil's voice is flexed and warped, spinning around the stereo field, as emotive as she ever sounds but more abstracted. Gossamer light with a heavyweight trance chassis - an iron fist in a lace glove.
Rising star Cousin moves in an earthier and more dubwise fashion on his remix of 'Falling Under.' His trademark shuffling, layered percussion comes with gnarly electronics and blissed-out synths. All the while, that vocal refrain leads us through the bong smoke toward the light. A work of restraint and release, the perfect fit for a.s.o.
Purelink's redo of 'Rain Down' is closer stylistically to the original. Bubbling synth-bass grooves atop a breakbeat, the vocal chopped and diced tastefully. Balearic street soul vibes, a hypnotic and heady five minutes. Beautiful business.

After six years of being on top of Zurich's techno-party labels, Camouflage’s first vinyl EP finally appears. Carefully produced by Zurich's uprising artist-duo Cumuli, Bvrton, the project contains one original track and also three remixes from Cabanne, Cosmjn, and Iuly.B


Cumuli, Bvrton's Levitate original mix happens where mighty monk-chanting meets cinematic drones and ethnic percussions. This musical piece might let you levitate on the dancefloor.

Cabanne is coming here with the punchy pristine analog sounds he is known for. A very psychedelic spectacle full of rhythm, screaming synths, and mysterious textures, which brings everyone's feet to move.

As expected, Cosmjn is entering with his unique sound signature. it's nearly impossible to have a bad mood while listening to this track. legends say, that when this sound is on, the sun begins to shine.

Dorisburg is Bossmusik regular with four releases on the label under his belt. For this EP he is joined by Efraim Kent - the newest member of the Boss family. Dorisburg and Efraim have many things in common, not just the previous records the pair has produced, but more importantly they unite in a shared love for intricate drum patterns, as well as being masters of trippy spiraling sounds.

For the 10th installment in the Bossmusik collection, the Swedish duo goes all in with four deep, yet funky, expertly produced tech house cuts. The tenth release on the label will be released exactly ten years after the first record was released the 13th of October. The A-side opens with Further.

A penetrating kick keeps chopped up drums and a spitting vocal sample in order and when the brooding bassline gets to close, hypnotic x-rays twists the narrative. On A2 the boys are clearly letting you know it is playtime; opening with a funk-driven beat and tumbling drums, this track is nothing less than a funhouse full of twirling tocsins - Attjo is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

B1, Cave Gossip, is a low-slung affair with an electro-infused bassline; here a deep groove takes you on a hallucinogenic underground journey and a nonchalant vocal sample grows into a warped echoing choir. Final track Skrattack is where the drum-loving duo puts the full spotlight on the percussion: complex rhythm patterns provide a spaced-out backdrop, attacked by what sounds like giddy little extraterrestrial critters, ready to mess up the party in the most charming of ways.

Tunisia based Jihed Monser aka HearThug swaggers aboard Sex Tapes From Mars for the wax-only label’s fourth release; a robotic excursion into gritty, tongue in cheek vocoder, bolstering acid lines and vintage pad swoons.

Heading straight for the dancefloor, it opens with “Computerized Souls”, going notably heavy on the drums and low-end, with acid madness at the forefront and alien sounding melodies enabling the eeriness.

“Generation Of Robots”, is flooded with sci-fi melodies, retro B-boy references and rinsed-out,16-bit, bouncing unfettered tones.

On the flip, “Buzz! Look An Alien (Oh No - No Mix)” neatly fits either the warm up or early hours, filling the low-key, understated spaces it reaches with plenty of esoteric colour and character.

The emotionally stirring sound of Mathame is back on Afterlife. Their signature, processed vocals shine on the infectious and entrancing ‘For Every Forever’. It’s a sound they have developed over their releases for Afterlife and is now truly their own. A Dub Mix of the title track offers a slightly more pared down alternative. ‘Stairway 3000’ completes the record, an eyes-down roller with a bassline to shake any room to its core.

First ever release on the brand new label Serenity Now kick things off presenting the first ever EP by p1LL!

Even though this is the first EP as a solo artist, p1LL is very far from a newcomer.

In the mid 90s p1LL kept himself busy dj:ing and producing a lot of electronic music from his bedroom studio out of Santa Monica, where he even produced two tracks for an unreleased album by Seal. Most of this music stayed on hard drives and never came out.

Today, Serenity Now presents “The Other Side EP”, which consist of four songs produced between 1996-98.
Versatile and quirky, yet straight forward club music that really do have a stand out sound, while at the same time a sound so contemporary that it’s hard to think they were actually made almost thirty(!) years ago.

The record really kicks off and sets the tone right with the deep and bouncy “Touch My Soul”, where spacey keys and pads moves around in a pumping, futuristic soundscape. Moving on further we head over to “Think Things Over” for some straight forward, loopy and tech-y vibes that really makes it go off.

On the flip we start off with the track “Deep Inside My Mind”. - A full on, tripped out deep house excursion into soundscapes filled with whispering voices, bubbly bass-lines, punchy snares and intricate melodies that keep the driving energy intact.

Finally, we have “Break Free” as the perfect “end of the night”-track filled with euphoric energy. Heavy drums are accompanied by warm stabs and catchy breakdowns where some “good sleaze” piano solos.
All in all, what we have here is the perfect blend of tracks for all sorts of moments of the night. A very special record that really do stand out and will probably sound as good in thirty more years ahead.

Record of the Week - Groove Mag 20.10.23

Pev swiftly follows up the Pulse EP with another four tracks of sprightly club gear that continue to shape out his current areas of exploration in the studio. As ever, there are no fixed concepts or approaches - just an instinct for energising, inventive tracks taking in a range of tempos and rhythms.

The first half of Pulse Modulation EP is marked out by linear rhythms which showcase the most techno aspects of Pev’s sound. ‘Pulse V’ is charged with the kind of alien synth lines which could only come from his studio, but also draw a line to the hi-tech soul of foundational Detroit techno. ‘Pulse VI’ has a starker, bleep-led sound pitched towards tougher dancefloors.

’Pulse VII’ strips things back in comparison, leaning in on a blanket of bass and keeping the drums sparse and to the point - a study in soundsystem pressure. Widening the spectrum of the record, ‘Pulse VIII’ sees Pev make a rare push up into 160+ territory - something normally reserved for his DJ sets. Swerving obvious break edits, his take on jungle is lean and crisp, delivering a fresh slant on the sound while maintaining the sharp focus of his current output.

Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

Influential contemporary house tastemaker Prunk is to serve-up his new album Le Funk on his nown PIV Records in 2023. The nine track record showcases his mastery of sublime and seductive sounds from across the house spectrum.

Dutchman Prunk has slowly but surely become a real underground mainstay. He has built a fine collective of talents on his own label and spearheaded a new take on house music that is all about real feelings and effortless grooves. His standout solo and collaborative material has seen releases via the likes of Djebali, Key Records, Ewax and of course PIV, while he has headlined clubs and festivals all over the world. Next to this his own often sold out label showcases that have taken place everywhere from fabric (London) to Shelter (Amsterdam) vis The BPM Festival.

Now he makes his most completed coherent statement yet with his adventurous new album Le Funk. It is a distillation of all his influences and many years of house history with plenty of his own fresh signature touches.

Says Prunk - "This album is a tribute to my entire music career. I hope to not only appeal to DJs with my album, but also to house lovers because this album was made with a lot of love. I hope you enjoy it 'for the love of house music'."

Into The Woods returns with ITW002 produced by none other than the Legendary underground hero, Swoy. Recently signed to the Into The Woods Artist Agency and Record Label - Swoy hands over 4 previously unreleased classics, heard on club dancefloors throughout the world over. The Fairytale EP consists of 4 dreamy and dramatic dancefloor smashers ready for any occasion.

Recent times have seen After Caposile become one of the most sought after locations on the underground circuit, and this reflects in their acclaimed record label - Caposile Music. This Spring they have prepared a stellar release of firm favourites from the club. “The Sound Of Garden” release will come in two parts, both on 12” and will include a heavy hitting lineup such as Romanian duo Super Moon (Arapu & Priku), family members and residents Maggio, Francesco Maddalena, and Yaar Kü, Silat Beksi, Mihai Pol, Giuliano Lomonte and Sublee. A perfect blend of club affiliates, coming together to provide the soundtrack from that famous garden.

Volume One kicks off with the dynamite combination of Arapu & Priku under their Super Moon moniker. Hypnotic movements set a serious tone for the journey ahead, mysterious elements simmering throughout “I Can Help”. Dreamy meets dance floor in Maggio’s aptly named “Just Landed” floating synths calmly lift you, but you remain grounded by the killer elasticated groove. After delivering the previous EP on the label Yaar Kü returns with a stripped back encounter, his unique touch shining bright. Silat Beksi provides a certain sunshine jam with his track “Jaho”, you immediately feel the warmer times are coming, after parties in the sun.

Landing just a few weeks after is the equally special Volume Two, packed full of ammo for the tastemakers. Mihai Pol inaugurates proceedings with “Sugar Rush”, the 7 minute quest boasts shimmering synths and a sweet bass line to match. Francesco Maddalena ups the ante with his garage influenced “Breath Of Air”, an energy boost for the peak times of the party. Giuliano Lomonte’s “More Time” rumbles from the get go, begging to be played on a high quality system to allow each of the intricate details to speak for themselves. Last but not least is Sublee, his “Day Six” track is a chugging body of work, blurring the lines between house and minimal with a raw edge.

With a huge European tour on the table, and a release of this stature After Caposile are flying high at the moment with an indispensable team behind the project. Expanding on their party paradise location, but simultaneously propelling innovative underground sounds under the Caposile Music offshoot. Both Volume One and Two will land this May, right on cue for the summer time madness.
