Tresor Records is fortunate enough to be sitting on a catalogue of past releases that no other label in electronic music would turn down. Three of the finest in this collection were albums contributed by Surgeon, Basictonalvocabulary', Balance' and Force + Form' all originally came out on the Berlin institution between 1997 and 1999.

Surgeon's inimitable combination of Detroit techno and post-industrial sounds emanating from his British homeland found its fullest expression in these masterful trio of releases on Tresor.

The Balance Remakes 12' accompanied Surgeon's second Tresor album in 1998, with additional Versions as well as a remix by long-time Birmingham collaborator Mick Harris.

Two years after the milestone SOMEWHERE compilations, Something Happening Somewhere is commemorating the times that have passed, returning with a new chapter in the series. Selecting unique pieces of artists known and less known, the SOMEWHERE series continue their sound based confessional. Telling unheard stories, exposing unseen surfaces and unheard sounds.
SOMEWHERE III is set to be released as two vinyl samplers, with a selection of the tracks featured in the full digital compilations, which will feature four extra digital only tracks. A host of familiar SoHaSo figures make an appearance, but there is also room for new faces like Aril Brikha, KAAP, Ripperton in his stunning collab with Love over Entropy, Equus, Tracey and Mulder. Every artist on this SOMEWHERE III compilation is expressing their unique experience through sound waves, telling stories and uncovering a piece of themselves. There are things radiating in the violet fog, waiting to be discovered. Journeys that are worth making, but will not necessarily provide any more answers. Something is happening somewhere, once again.
Love over Entropy teaming up with Ripperton, could we wish for more It felt like a dream team combo before we even heard the resulting beauty of Saints de Glace. Inspired by those last nightly frosts of spring days in May, it sounds exactly like those contrasting temperatures and feelings. Down tempo organic grooves and a drifting melody that ebbs in and out of consciousness provide disparity with the glimmering pads that lure in the night air waiting to catch you off guard.
Equus' Ash picks up the pace with a track that was first released on Soma back in 1996, which we felt the need to give new live. Providing a Detroit like chord sequence and a simple but effective groove to accompany, it has a sense of urgency and shares the allure of classy dance floor material. Arik Brikha's disco fueled Eat The Heart feels like driving furiously along an electronic highway, the vibe and thrust imparting perfect sunbathed festival material. Filtered samples, driving arpeggios and house chord stabs, all the necessary ingredients are there to propel you towards a dimension far away from here.
A rolling bassline motif creates the fierce backbone for Tracey's Phase 1, as echo feedback waves in and out with phasing noise providing the necessary movement. The repetition and capitol Funk combined with subdued Juno pads and a hypnotizing melody turn the closing of the second SOMEWHERE IIII sampler into an effective dance floor weapon.

After the criminally overlooked 'How Do You Like Me Now' EP - how is Classic Version not a...classic...version - Junior gets back on the (lino) floor. The EP starts with a look north to the 'other city of 7 hills' that birthed a Warp'd British retake on House in his bleep-dub ode, End Of Love. The autobiographical title belies a forward approach with his trademark echobox kick'n'hats underpinning uplifting keys and nodding bleep finger solo.

Who to join the party then, than another man of mystery, Roy Of The Ravers. After his debut EP on sister label Emotional Response became a most played from Aphex et al, it is only right bring him to E'Special. His brooding, hoover rush Remix 1 heightens the vibes with a heads down bleeping half-steppa. Righteous!

The flip is given over to Junior's roots, bringing the hip-hopper back with the anthemic The Shazsquatch Goes Back Into The Woods. No shoc(k) horror here, just more upwardly mobile breakbeat meets UK techno licks. You can hear Fairplay at one with man and machine, pushing a sound that looks back but most definitely goes forward with 'Sunrise' on the mind.

To close is the swagger of EP title cut, Faxes From The Future. Hair of the (black) dog fuses a swinging break with proto-dub-meets-Giallo stylings to rework the senses and say, now is (still) the time!

After a brief wander 'round the garden, Chilean-born Ricardo Tobar returns to the ESP Institute bearing earthly delights. With 2017's Liturgia, he introduced his creative point-of-view—instantly substantiating a sense of rhythm that was deliberately complex yet slightly rough around the edges, while touching upon his musical origins from the guitar-driven corners of psychedelia— however with his debut 2xLP Continuidad, he leaves us gobsmacked and seeking shelter as he leaps from dancefloor comforts and descends into absolute chaos (in more ways than one). Emotionally, the artist has crossed all previously self-imposed and subconscious thresholds, putting his true imagination on display and exposing an unwavering attraction to all things loud, orgasmic and transcendent. He's not subtly hinting at a fetish, but opening his arms wide with conviction, abandoning genre taboos and personally inviting everyone to join his enchanted caravan. Sonically, his appetite for intensity is clear throughout—epic chord changes, ascending peaks in arrangement, accumulating layers of grit that build into impenetrable blankets of distortion and feedback—a kind of aural hedonism that translates visually into the potent video abstractions our Mario Hugo has summoned for the album's packaging. This might all sound like a warning for Hurricane Ricardo, but fear not, listeners will still find some security in the album's rhythmic underpinnings, and although this foray into primitive, ritualistic bang-the-drum percussion is significantly more dangerous than his previous programming, its the imperfection in his passionate studio performances that imbue Continuidad with something remarkably human.

The second release from producer EOMAC's new Dublin-based label EOTRAX comes from nomadic Irish producer LAIR. This is an exciting step for the label, moving away from the dancefloor into more diverse, eclectic territory.

LAIR is a producer far from the norm, especially for those releasing on an electronic music label. She classifies herself as a composer, producer, vocalist, artist, sound-healer and yoga teacher. With a diverse background that includes singing classical and traditional material she's expanded her artistic approach into a diverse web-like multi-disciplinarian approach in keeping with her nomadic life. Currently she creates electronic music, contemporary classical music and healing music under a variety of alias' including Laura Kilty and LuminouSounds (for healing music). She is also in the duo noeverything with Eomac.

In her words my LAIR music is how I see the world - this one and others channeled - expressed through layers of my vocals which I shape electronically. The music has elements of mysticism, sacred geometry, energy, sound with intention and just sounds I love formed to make music I love. I see music as I create it. I work with lots of layers - for me it's like creating an aural representation of the image I see.'

These layers of sound can be found in her debut self-titled EP - in the deep, ritualistic drones of 'Invoke' and 'Meld' on the A-side, and the more concise rhythmical patterns of 'Searching in Circles' on the flip.

Eotrax has also enlisted the talents of respected techno producer Rrose who features with two remixes of 'Meld' - one for the vinyl and a second 'distillation' as a digital bonus exclusive.

Beneath the still waters of Lonely Sound there lays the ruins of Howland Abbey, its 3000lb bell still hanging in the belfry, only swayed by the currents of the regular tides across the estuary, over 100 years since it was rang by the order of Carthusian monks who lived in the nearby priory. At the turn of the last century during a heavy storm the Abbey was plundered by an unknown gang of marauders, as they left on horseback carrying with them all the gold from the Abbey the sea defences around Lonely Sound were breached, flooding the Abbey, Priory and the surrounding land, the Monks ran for dry land as they watched their beloved bell tower disappear beneath the rising waters, unable to chase the thieves, cut off as the water rose around them. Some locals say these ransackers were in league with the elements, some say they had just intentionally damaged the sea defences before making their raid. Local folk-law claims that the morning bells of the Abbey can be heard ring out from beneath the murky waters of the Sound every year on the anniversary of the great storm, ringing the peel that was never rung.

Chaz Bear (formerly Bundick) was a musician from birth. Growing up, it was normal to hear music across genres, from Michael Jackson to Elvis Costello to The Specials, in the Bundick household. These influences were quite unique for a biracial kid growing up in South Carolina, contributing to the complexity of Chaz’s self-understanding and expression through his own music.

Chaz began playing and recording original compositions in his preteen years, forming multiple indie bands starting in middle school and continuing until his personal project, Toro y Moi, was signed by Carpark Records in 2009. Before getting signed, he was already an incredibly prolific artist, having released over 10 Toro y Moi albums on his own (and undoubtedly retaining a vast compendium of unreleased songs). His personal work drew upon a vaster array of influences than did his full band. Early Toro work called upon Chaz’s childhood exposure to 80’s R&B, pop and electronic music, while also evolving with his discoveries of acts like My Bloody Valentine and J Dilla and his burgeoning interest in French house. Just before his graduation from the University of South Carolina, where he earned a degree in graphic design, Chaz caught the attention of music bloggers and record labels with his dreamy, bedroom recordings.

Outer Peace, was written and recorded in the Bay Area after Chaz’s return from a one year stint in Portland. It is somewhat of a homecoming celebration, filled with features by friends and saturated with a playfulness that had not previously been embraced in past Toro albums. Outer Peace stands in contrast to the more sparse and contemplative Boo Boo, an album recorded while in Portland in relative isolation. With Outer Peace, Chaz showcases his ability to remain on the cutting edge of music’s evolution while not taking himself too seriously. There are contemporary hip hop references mixed in with funk, Eurodance and ambient elements, all interwoven expertly and retaining that quintessential Toro y Moi aesthetic.

Hot off the back of a well-received debut 12' - 'Probabilidades' EP - published on Phuture Shock Musik some 10 months ago, Damián Botigué aka Karmasound returns to deliver his follow-up release on the Bristol label, by name of 'Can See Thru You'.
For this second outing, the Barcelona-based producer steps into a collaborative mode and calls up on the smoky vocal talents of upcoming singer-songwriter Jedreck, to present a jazzy, late-night bruk affair with a range of influences that includes Neo soul, Latin jazz, Detroit house and broken beat, all doused in soulful warmth. In addition to the lead track, the release also features two inspired remixes by Bristol's very own soulful house don Sean McCabe, plus a bonus original track on the B-side to top off the disc.

Michigan artist John Beltran's 13th studio album and 3rd on Delsin is his most complete and personal work yet. Written largely on modular synthesizers for the first time, it melts 90s intelligent techno with post rock and ambient with leftfield downtempo. The seventeen tracks draw on his expert knack for sound design; for melody and atmosphere and make for yet another hugely absorbing affair.

Atmosphere EP is Rising Sun`s fifth release on Fauxpas Musik and we can say quite safely that Steffen Laschinski fueled a few identifiable obsessions over the years for those familiar with his work. it probably won't feel like uncharted territory when they'll hear the title-track.

Vinyl tastes better

Eva Geist's music has the power to open doors. Her enchanting sounds are always an invitation to explore the most concealed nooks of our own perception. Therefore, it's not surprising to learn that, for her, music is often a way to answer some of her mental question marks. In the case of 'Urban Monogamy', this questioning refers to the diverse ways of understanding affective relationships in our time. She explains it in this way: "A sort of Pandora's box opened up, to offer me and pretty much everyone around me, a variety of relationship forms of all kind. Polyamory, open relationships, monogamy and whatsoever. It was very confused. I think this track represents that confused time." The feeling is perfectly conveyed through the track's restrained but steady groove. Eva's trademark occultist melodies and breathy lyrics that are both a celebration of freedom and an acceptance that, as emotionally complex creatures, we're destined to be dazed forever when it comes to figure out our feelings for others. In their remix, Velvet Season & The Hearts Of Gold transform the mysterious charm of the track into a weapon of dance floor seduction by adding a no-frills motorik beat and beefing up it's sub-low frequencies. It's not surprising that the remix has already been played by the emperor of cosmic sleaze himself: DJ Harvey. On the flip, 'Green Healing Highness' opens another type of gates, in this case of consciousness. As Eva recalls, the track was written in just one night after an acid trip in France in which the plants in a garden had showed her "something pure and magic", helping her understand "what it means to be healing". Overall, it feels like a more radiant take in her sound, with its whimsical arpeggios and melodies adding a bucolic touch to the psychedelic journey. The 12" comes housed in a sleeve by Barcelona-based artist Alicia Carrera.

Hamburg's Kluentah lay down 6 cut to the bone DIY tracks. One half of Duo Fallbiel debuts on Sisters, in this release Kluentah brings his own brand of EBM infused techno and electro with tough & relentless drums, haunting synths and asphyxiated vocals, suitable for the end times or the club

While Chapelier Fou and his live band still hits european roads to support Deltas on stage, we're happy to announce the Fuses EP, to be released on May the 25th exclusively on limited vinyl and digital. This 5th EP includes 4 remixes and 2 brand new songs from the Deltas recording sessions, « Fuses » and « Les Yeux de mes Yeux », both previously unreleased, explorating new fields and delivering a more minimalist and psychedelic vision of his work. Yakie and johnny_ripper remixes have been choosen by Chapelier Fou himself as part of a contest in collaboration with Ableton. Keep an eye on their upcoming works, they truly deserve it. Daedelus, the well-known beatmaker/producer signed on Ninja Tune and Brainfeeder, offers a surprising dancefloor/banging version of « La Guerre des Nombres ». At last, Berlin-based electronica heroes to rococo rot (electronica/acoustic) comes with a beautiful version of Triads for Two'.

Ethimm's second EP When in dark delivers the groups signature tension music with moods oscillating between suicidal heartbreak and conciliatory optimism. In the opening track Why (a cover of the Rhythm and Sound classic), producer Elisabeth Thimm sets the stage for guest singer Veronique to mourn love's loss, while Brian Gimmel's improvised piano licks hold strong agains the songs relentless bassline. The follow-up track Late features Lexx's dreamy lyrics gracing a subtle dance foor tune for spaced-out souls. The B side opens with Ethimm's love for dub. Next is a freaked-out meditation on what has been and will be, while the fnal track Done slowly creeps towards its peak, refecting on dark days where light may have not been much in sight, but going forward sees optimism, increased resolution, and drive.

Growing up listening to pirate radio there were always tracks you heard but never got released for various reasons. We are the biggest Newham Generals fans, and we used to listen to their weekly slot on Rinse FM with DJ Tubby from 2005 until it finished in 2012 on Sunday's 7-9pm (coincidently a slot we have also held) and these three tracks are some of Footsie's best productions that somehow haven't seen the light of day until now. Scars was a hit instrumental doing the rounds already on the pirates in 2005. The vocal alongside D Double E and original Newham Generals member Monkstar alongside the one and only Wiley was an instant cult classic. It is one of the few tracks with Wiley and the Newham Generals together the other only being Trim's Boogeyman and Prangman Remix which is also featured on this record. Move To The Beat is Footsie & D Double E at their best, a fun exchange for the ravers. Over the last 12 months we have worked with Footsie & D Double E really closely at Fabric, Outlook Festival, Notting Hill Carnival and our Jamz parties in Leeds & Manchester developing a unique synergy. As a mark of respect for being such a strong and positive influence on us and the rest of the scene, I wanted to commit some special music to wax for people that have seen us all together live to appreciate. Footsie has done it all in Grime. He has his own label: Braindead which has been the home of his productions since 2003, he clashed on the original Lord Of The Mics DVD, he has done over 15 years of pirate radio as part of Nasty Crew and Newham Generals and has produced for Dizzee Rascal.  Hopefully this release gives the younger generation discovering his new music via online platforms like SBTV, GRM Daily and Noisey a glimpse into the long journey that it takes to reach legendary status in the scene.  - Elijah.

Witscher is a notoriously unique artist, a and nomadic SoCal everyman. An avid chess player, he occupies the role of both trickster and aesthete, an embodied example of a time where experimental ideas and attitudes switched fluidly between the club and gallery. Travel is a central theme of his work, with the digital and minimalist palette on 'Vanilla Call Option' built whilst on the move between airports, performance spaces and public libraries. In his own words, Witscher attempted to construct 'vertical narratives' that at times evoke the musique concrete of Bernard Parmegiani and probing electronic experiments of Charles Dodge. Rejecting melody to form a new language of timbre, timing and flight, these crisp compositions oscillate between flux and grandeur, piercing synthesis and meditative piano, strings and voice.
