Various - Femur Parte 1

The 6th reference of Clásicos del Ruido is the result of a collaboration with Aitor Arch and Femur Club (club of reference in Madrid), and it is exclusively produced by artists who have performed at this well-known parties. The record opens with 'Utopia', a luminous, evocative and fascinating track by the German artist Hyboid, the undoubted leader of space and cosmic sounds. The British artist Kid Machine replicates on the same album side with the track 'Fighting fears', which includes echoes of disco and Den Haag sounds. On the other side of this 12', we will listen first to 'Monologues', a hypnotic-percussive track signed by the renowned French artist In Aeternam Vale. 'Non auro, sed ferro' by Hesperius Draco closes down the album, fizzing among their usual coordinates: horror disco, retro wave and soundtrack sounds. An album that brings together different artistic sensibilities in which both Clásicos del Ruido and Femur feel comfortable. All tracks compiled by Aitor Arch, Der Kapitan & Gus Van Sound.

Nach einer fünfjährigen Auszeit, in der er sich ganz unterschiedlichen Musikprojekten widmete, kündigt Squarepusher sein nächstes Studioalbum "Be Up A Hello" an.

Words like soulful techno, real techno and true techno are easily thrown around these days but what really is a 'true techno' record? Arguably we could put Nu Era's debut 1994 "Beyond Gravity" album in that bracket.
"EVOLVE" follows in that footpath and in some ways goes back to an earlier techno sound, pretty hard to do that while still sounding futurist. EVOLVE does just that, its Nu Era still evolving without loosing formation. From the opening track "Metal Butterfly" the 909 drum machine powers through classic Marc Mac (4hero) chords and melodies, that 909 kick drum and baseline work in combination to deliver a more edgy techno belter on "Flying Colours".
The 4x4 kick is broken up on tracks and electrified on "Theme From Joe Smoke" the yin and yang forces provide a haunting but uplifting electro master class. "Closer To Mars" creeps into a fusion style tech workout, with jazzy, soulful keys and melodies intertwining, EVOLVE is complexed but simply soulful with big influence from Detroit and has all the hallmarks of a classic in waiting.

TORNADO WALLACE/GREENVISION/BON VOYAGE ORGANIZATION / BELL TOWERS - Nothing Matters When We Are Dancing Vol 10: Garden

Discodromo are delighted to present a three-vinyl compilation to celebrate the 10th birthday of their Berlin party 'CockTail d'Amore'.

The compilation features the sound that best envisions the party and it's evolution throughout it's first decade. This installment features the sound of the Garden and it's kaleidoscopic surges. Tornado Wallace's contribution is a fetishized Italo-High-Energy adventure.

On the same side 'The Breaks of Greenvision's Sleeping Bag In New York' conjure a clubber's hallucinations, this on a sunday afternoon.
Bell Towers and Bon Voyage nostalgically cover the flip-side.

The former with synth pop inspired ode to the this special dance-floor and the latter with a classic cosmic emotional composition.

... Hope, you'll enjoy very well.

Tr One - A Month Has Passed

Tr One return with 4 very different tracks recorded in one take at their studio in the Irish southeast. 'A Month Has Passed' uses a dubbed out aesthetic merging influences from UK bass and Detroit using shimmering melodic progression. 'The Boutique Of Never Ending Dreams' works towards a synth laden dreamlike peak. 'The Printer' duly merges playful Chicago drums with an organic chord structure to create a head nodding funk. Finishing the EP is 'Road To The Sea', a pensive sway of dubby sonics masked in a fog of reverb.

Tr One are an established name in the Irish electronic music community and are known for their energetic and engaging performances as DJs. They have received critical acclaim for the raw soulful productions from their studio in hometown Carlow, Ireland. They have gained respect for their ability to deftly move between the lines of genres with a strong sense of adventure and connection with Detroit/Chicago/Dublin machine soul. From this they have released music on Lunar Disko, Apartment and Fine Art recordings, with the strains of the US Midwest never far from sonic influence. They have worked in a range of styles from old movie soundtrack disco with New Jackson to punishing techno sharing wax space with the Phantom Planet Outlaws.

Out 2 - Showcase

Out 2

Showcase

Emotional Response
14.05.2018

Jeremy Campbell and R. Zanzibar return as Out 2 with their debut full length, Showcase. Following their recent Moving EP, the duo expand their mix of New York off-kilter pop lyrical poetics riding over percussive desk-dub funk grooves.

After collaborating on releases for Lectric Sands and L.I.E.S (Zoovox and Locks & DDM) the Brooklyn team dug deep in the studio to create 6 vocals and their dub versions in a true 'showcase' style.

With that, after its appearance in longer 'discomix' form, the album starts with the original version of Moving. Just under 3 minutes of hectic New York funk - chop guitar, punch bass and blasting horn jump ups. Rolling straight to the Version, Campbell's mixing desk skills let it all hang out and back. Snares rattle, hats ride, bass in and out, a voice rightly interjects "...are we moving".

Sliding in to Dancing, the tryptamines start to flow and skip atop a steppas beat. The "raps", dubs and fx weave their way in to your subconscious as electrons whirl in a warm psychedelic fuzz. This is further exemplified in side closer, Pale Fens. The improvised vocals fit seamlessly among the beats, bass and guitar haze. As the skin, lips, eyes, pull you in, the Version takes it deep. Sole guitar solo and the rest rides from the desk. Perry, Bovell, Sherwood. The beauty in the space between is the essence of music itself.

Side 2 starts with a crowning gem, Some Air's Red There. Flute rides a hook that is simplicity in its ingenuity. Zanzibar in his wayward element "...she said I had the wrong rhythm". By now ears twisted to what the Version brings, the laidback vibes, with wind solo, drift to an Upstate/White Isle summer's day that is long remembered.

Don't Stop comes on as a No NYC love paean. Congas, rhythm guitar and impro' lyrical flow, contorting bass, flange, flange, flange. "Run all day, we don't stop". Version just glides and glides. Finally, to close, Run is the lazy finale dub (master)piece. A simple Jammy's style riddim; a midi-funk groove. It swings low alongside lyrical imaginings, encapsulating Out 2's place in the New York firmament, where disco, punk, hip hop were and are very much fellows with the often overlooked, but amazing dub reggae that has been produced in the city for decades.

Atlas - Solitude Ep

Keysound Recordings are proud to present the debut EP from up and coming talent, Atlas. A Brighton contemporary of Keysound family member Etch, Atlas' EP stretches the boundaries of the label's rollage aesthetic, weightless synth experimentation and established sub heavy paradigms to near breaking point. The EP's title track, Solitude,' has been a set opener for Keysound founders Dusk + Blackdown for over 18 months, wiping the slate clean with smooth lines towards a distant horizon, a pensive melodic tension broken only by skeletal drum flickers and sub gravity. Rewarding those who wait, it builds through layers of abstraction over four minutes towards a massive emotional apex. On the cusp' explores similar themes, using fragments of wistful dialog interwoven with skeletal drums that seem to suggest the photographic negative of a percussive floor filler: an X-ray of a now expired club banger. The EP concludes with Alone in a timespan', yet further taking the form & function to near collapse. Finally, it pulls back, returning to more familiar club dynamics with with the dubby, bass-heavy rollage of Calm'.

Kiwi - Charlie’s New Vision (Inc. Johnny Aux Remix)

Back with his third EP for Dave Harvey’s forward thinking Futureboogie label, Kiwi serves up three pulsating jams on ‘Charlie’s New Vision’, backed with a remix from Johnny Aux.

Drawing upon his many influences across the house/disco/funk spectrum, South London based Kiwi has been illuminating the more discerning dancefloors of late with a strong of releases for Cin Cin, Needwant and his own new label venture, Crossbreed.

A low-slung groove is explored on ‘Charlie’s New Vision’, incorporating tripped out film dialogue, bleeps and dubby tones, and a serpentine bass riff, all forging an off kilter yet infectious & hedonistic chugger. Johnny Aux follows up recent appearances on Man Power’s Me Me Me, Party Central, and Multi Culti with his own take on the lead track. Churning over a bleepy and epically transcendental remix of the highest order, this is the stuff of sunrises and enlightening moments!

The sprightly ‘Ghiaccio’ draws together a kaleidoscopic array of opulent synth melodies with an compelling rhythm, whilst ‘Italian Heat’ doffs its cap heartily to the Italo disco choons of yore that always strikes a potent chord to this day.

I Break Horses - Warnings

If I Break Horses’s third album holds you in its grip like a great film, it’s no coincidence. Faced with making the follow-up to 2014’s plush ‘Chiaroscuro’, Horses’s Maria Lindén decided to take the time to make something different, with an emphasis on instrumental, cinematic music. As she watched a collection of favourite films on her computer (sound muted) and made her own soundtrack sketches, these sonic workouts gradually evolved into something more: “It wasn’t until I felt an urge to add vocals and lyrics,” says Lindén, “that I realized I was making a new I Break Horses album”.
That album is ‘Warnings’, an intimate and sublimely expansive return that, as its recording suggests, sets its own pace with the intuitive power of a much-loved movie. And, as its title suggests, its sumptuous sound worlds – dreamy mellotrons, haunting loops, analogue synths – and layered lyrics crackle with immersive dramatic tensions on many levels. “It’s not a political album,” says Lindén, “though it relates to the alarmist times we live in. Each song is a subtle warning of something not being quite right”.
The pay-off for her long-haul immersion is clear from statement-of-intent album opener ‘Turn’, a waltzing kiss-off to an ex swathed in swirling synths over nine emotive minutes. On ‘Silence’, Lindén suggests deeper sorrows in the interplay of serene surface synths, hypnotic loops and elemental images: when she sings “I feel a shiver,” you feel it, too.
Elsewhere, on three instrumental interludes, Lindén’s intent to experiment with sound and structure is clear. Meanwhile, there are art-pop songs here more lush than any she has made. ‘I’ll Be the Death of You’ occupies a middle ground between Screamedlica and early OMD,
while ‘Neon Lights’ brings to mind Kraftwerk on Tron’s light grid.
‘I Live At Night’ slow-burns like a song made for night-time LA drives; ‘Baby You Have Travelled for Miles without Love in Your Eyes’ is an electronic lullaby spiked with troubling needle imagery. ‘Death Engine’’s dark-wave dream-pop provides an epic centrepiece, of sorts, before the vocoder hymnal of closer ‘Depression Tourist’ arrives like an epiphany, the clouds parting after a long, absorbing journey.
For Lindén, Warnings is a remarkable re-routing of a journey begun when I Break Horses’s debut album, ‘Hearts’ (2011), drew praise from Pitchfork, The Guardian, NME, The Independent and others for its luxurious grandeur and pulsing sense of art-pop life. With the electro-tangents of 2014’s ‘Chiaroscuro’, Lindén forged a new, more ambitious voice with total confidence. Along the way, I Break Horses toured with M83 and Sigur Rós.
A new friend on ‘Warnings’ is US producer/mixing engineer Chris Coady, whose graceful way with dense sound (credits include Beach House, TV on the Radio) was not the sole reason Lindén invited him to mix the album.
“Before reaching out to Chris I read an interview where he said, ‘I like to slow things down. Almost every time I love the sound of something slowed down by half, but sometimes 500% you can get interesting shapes and textures.’ And I just knew he’d be the right person for this
album.”
If making ‘Warnings’ was a slow process, so be it: that steady gestation was a price worth paying for its lavish accretions of detail and meaning, where secrets aplenty await listeners eager to immerse themselves. “Nowadays, the attention span equals nothing when it comes to how most people consume music,” Lindén says. “And it feels like songs are getting shorter, more ‘efficient’. I felt an urge to go against that and create an album journey from start to finish that takes time and patience to listen to. Like, slow the fuck down!”.

MIREK COUTIGNY - THE FURTHER WE VENTURED

In recent years, pianist and producer Mirek Coutigny has worked on his own world of sound with electronic and acoustic instruments. He improvised on sketches he wrote over the last 10 years and reworked them for piano, strings, percussion and electronics.
The common thread running through “The Further We Ventured” is a fascination for the “suburbs”, more specific, the contrast between the often similar facades and the diversity of stories behind those facades.
This is also reflected in the contrast between the acoustic elements of the record (the “Safe Gray” of the neighborhood in which you grow up) and the slumbering electronics (the “Colorful Danger” that typifies a child’s raving imagination).

This second album sounds a lot more intuitive and organic: where debut album “Revisions # 1” was a record of thoughts, “The Further We Ventured” is a record from the heart. Sometimes complex, sometimes amazingly accessible; comparisons with Jóhann Jóhannsson or Ólafur Arnalds are never far away.

After the first album, a live set was worked out with Jonathan Bonny (percussion) and Jolien Deley (cello). In this formation they won a few months ago both the audience prize and the jury prize for “Fresh Fish”, a competition for young talent from the Leffingeleuren festival. Coutigny also worked with Spectra Ensemble and Gabi Sultana and he was with his collective “Headliner” curator as well as organizer of the contemporary music festival “En Avant Mars”.
Mirek Coutigny studied contemporary composition and electronics; the latter is also reflected in the electronic revision of “The Further We Ventured”, which will be released later.

Roisin Murphy’s disco-hued ‘Incapable’, created in partnership with long-time collaborator DJ parrot, was met with universal acclaim when it was released in early June. A masterclass in effortless cool, shuffling house beats meets Murphy’s pirouetting vocal which moulds and morphs across 8 perfect minutes, whilst lyrically it brilliantly subverts the tropes of the traditional heartbreak lament. Alongside the original, the B side also offers his darker, deeper ‘PRT 3’ remix that puts a heady spin on the track, heavy on a shape-shifting, reverberating bassline in constant flux.

Various - Dancefloor Detonators Vol.1

So, finally we succumbed to popular demand. With the interest in the digital-only tracks we put out this year and the subsequent demand to have some of them on vinyl, it was decided at INVINC HQ to press up the most requested of these on nice shiny discs and package them in one of our nicely designed sleeves. Just for you.

The digital releases DD01 (The Mamba) and DD02 (Krokakai) came about to provide a more DJ-focussed aspect of the label: dancefloor-friendly tracks that didn't wander off quite so far into the oddball, esoteric, 'psychedelic' territory of the label's primary output. It seemed digital was more appropriate for this output....however, much feedback and many emails have proven this isn't quite the case.

Masanora Ikeda - Afro Tipsy

The third release on Palms & Charms comes from Tokyo club stalwart Masanori Ikeda (Mansfield, Ikeda X), who has had previous releases on the legendary Flower Records and Cos/Mes imprint Snaker.

A resident DJ at London club Wag in the early 90's, Masanori returned to Japan later in the decade and has since provided the soundtrack to many a Tokyo night-time adventure, most recently with his continuing residency at Shibuya institution Oath.

With Afro Tipsy, Masanori offers up a monster of rolling percussion and pulsating synths. Feel the stress of the day fall away, your veins flowing as if with the very energy of a thousand suns. Moving confidently to the dance floor, your head and limbs begin to move in new and unexpected rhythms. Don't be alarmed - you feel good.

On the flipside, the remix from Almunia (Claremont 56) takes you deeper than deep. The sound envelops you as you enter the club. The continental winds and low pressure lift you aloft and you circulate around the dance floor, carried far as if on a warm jet stream. The rhythm drives, dubbed-out guitar echoing through the night.

Leonardo Ceccanti and Gianluca Salvadori taking you to new places.

collage. Keith’s busy and dense soundworld is composed through a very deliberate and painstaking process.

Unlikely musical and sonic juxtapositions artfully evoke a sense of place and narrative. This latest excursion into bad-trip psychedelia is shot through with wistful and whimsical melodies and occasional haunted voices. On 'Last One In', for example, what could be a chirpy and exciting theme tune to a 1970's kid’s adventure series is modulated into a minor key by a sinister synth bass line and menaced by a stomping bovver-boy rhythm.

In the opening track, 'On to the Pier & Down to the Sea', the amusement arcade din is submerged in a watery digital swirl during. Likewise, on 'Tippy Toe Tippy Toe' the tiddly-om-pom-pom of the pier is heard from the point of view some approaching aquatic creature or perhaps by a drowning man.

The closing section of the album shifts focus from the seafront to it's rustic precursor, the mayday fair. Something weird comes to the village in 'Waiting by the Window', sounding as if late period Radiophonic Workshop (when they got hold of expensive synths) had popped back 15 years to work with their boffinish tape wielding forbears. It summons an atmosphere like a Nigel Kneale drama or one of those folk-horror inspired episodes of Dr.Who.

Finally, the album’s closing title track seems to offer a chance of escape to a more rustic idyll with melancholy mellotron flute and mumbled nursery rhymes. But as the album closes it feels like a relentlessly inescapable holiday-special steam train drags us back On to the Pier & Down to the Sea. FFT - Total Self-Fufilment

Total Self-Fufilment

CassetteBRUK1POINT2
BRUK
06.11.2020

"BRUK" is a new platform for fresh variations on the soundsystem ethic, in particular where high-end sound design intersects with formidable bassweight. It's an artist-focused endeavour geared towards producers with range, depth and ingenuity in their sound.

The first transmission comes from FFT, the latest alias from accomplished producer Josh Thompson. Thompson established the Super Hexagon label with long time friends J. Wiltshire and Arthur Scott-Geddes and he's also released on heritage label R&S (as Alma Construct) and the excellent offbeat techno upstarts Power Vacuum, and more recently developed the FFT moniker via essential drops on The Trilogy Tapes as well as Super Hexagon.Thompson helps launch BRUK with a two-pronged attack that shows off the breadth of his artistic scope.

The lead 12" is a dynamic club release that pivots between razor-sharp drum programming, hyphy synth acrobatics, breakbeat science and dub-loaded atmospheres. If there's one constant that runs through all Thompson's work, it's a resounding confidence with melody, and that comes through even in the rowdy chops of "Month" – a track that exudes hope even in its gnarliest bars. From the dreadweight minimalism of "Fask" to the expansive electronica shock out of "Sacrifice (The Truth Mix)", this is a head-twisting release that feeds into the vital new energyreverberating around the 150+ axis.

Accompanying that 12" is a cassette album which provides that polar opposite side to FFT – a collection of compelling beatless ruminations under the banner of Total Self-Fulfilment. Gliding from low frequency industrial textures to expressive synth modulation, this is far from static music, even as it moves without the aid of a traditional rhythm section.

It's a strong first chapter for BRUK, with future releases lined up from artists similarly poking at the fabric of contemporary club music to find their own unique spaces for expression.

Forastero - El Submarinista (susso & Fasenuova Remixes)

Fabulous remix by Susso, A.K.A. Huw Bennett, of the title track off of Spanish adventurers Forastero's late 2016 debut album. Bennett turns the brooding original into a slow grooving burner that will blow the parasol right out of your piña colada.

On the other side, Spanish electronica wizards Fasenuova and Gkhan flip "Morfina", taken from the same album, injecting the aptly titled instrumental with some nasty synth stabs, nervous keys and even some vocals, accompanied by a stomping beat.

Hidden Spheres feat. Oscar Jerome - Words Can't Explain

Mancunian Hidden Spheres has showcased himself as one of the most innovative producers out there, releasing across the likes of Lobster Theremin, Rhythm Section International and his own imprint Fruit Merchant, all of which have been the perfect outlets for his inspiring blend of house and jazz. Church now features as the latest addition, who continue their stellar discography with 'Words Can't Explain', a collaborative EP which sees Hidden Spheres alongside singer-songwriter and guitarist, Oscar Jerome.

The collection begins with the original mix, lowering you into slick jazz guitar licks and echoing vocals, before Hidden Spheres provides a tight groove to lock around the melodies in fine form. The hybrid creation of jazz meets house binds perfectly as warm keys hang effortlessly in the air and popping guitar lines carry you onwards, supporting the sublime vocal from Oscar.

The dub version opens up room for the guitar licks and synth top lines to take centre stage, a real opportunity to marvel at the arrangement here.

On the flip is Yu Su's rework who ups the tempo and dims the lights for a punchier rework.. The half way point welcomes a percussive led break before the hats return and pick up the groove once again, closing the 'Words Can't Explain' EP in style.

Exit Entrance

DFA Records
11.10.2017

'Exit Entrance' is the DFA debut for Kohei Matsunaga aka NHK yx Koyxen.

Kohei has been making / releasing music since 1997 and has recorded for such iconic labels as Mille Plateaux, Important, Pan & Diagonal.

His latest recordings explore intricate drum programming, lush melodies & sparkling arrangements. Touchstones include the legendary 'Clicks & Cuts' compilations from the 1990's as well as Aphex Twin & Autechre. RA called his music bombastic techno funk....unpredictable but rarely disappointing'.

'Exit Entrance' is a collection of new songs that snap and flicker unlike anything Kohei has done in the past. There is a clarity and beauty to these tracks that bursts out of the speakers in a three dimensional way, matching the 3D glasses that the artist wears during all his live performances. The elegant arrangements and crisp drum breaks match the concise song titles - Kohei foregoes the typical impenetrable track names made up of numbers and shorthand, and opts for a more direct emotional sincerity through the sonic themes of the record. Not all the music here falls into the same exact formula.

As the album heads towards a close, after several tracks of harmonious beauty, we get 'Outset (for Mika Vainio)', a sombre hushed techno tune, dedicated to his late friend and musical collaborator, who unexpectedly passed away earlier this year as the record was being completed. What follows after this track is perhaps the real catharsis, as 'Dented' ominously kicks off with acidic stabs and rolls into a tumultuous dirge of gritty techno.

In this regard, 'Exit Entrance' can play out like a life cycle, a mini opera of birth and beauty, of sorrow and mourning.

It is one of the most direct and honest records Kohei has ever made, and DFA is beyond proud to present this work from such an esteemed creative force in the electronic avant-garde world of music.

For fans of Aphex Twin, Actress, Zomby, Kraftwerk, Four Tet.

Richard Sadface - Sad But True ( Superpitcher)

Richard Sadface was born during a Midsummer's Nightmare on a rooftop in Cologne. He did not become the fiddler on the roof because since his birth he suffered from severe fear of heights. Richard Sadface lead a lonely life. Never did he become the dream of someone else. Instead, the thought of him made others turn uncomfortably in their sleep. Never could he claim to be the eyes or the mask of another. The others all looked away. Richard Sadface was a sad man. Richard Sadface by God. Music by Superpitcher.
