Smilax Records presents the second compilation, Ibiza Annual Selection. A selection of 14 unmixed tracks including Alex Barattini, Andrea Raffa, Andrea Ferrini and many more.

In 1950 the composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, influenced by West Coast Jazz, helped form a new music which amalgamated sweet Brazilian Samba rhythms and melodies with sparkling improvisation; the pace is usually played with lightness as 3-3-4-3-3, with lines 1, 4, 7, 11 and 14 being accented every two characters (played by 8/4 times). The soothing voice of João Gilberto communicates perfectly the beauty of music Jobim. The 1959 film "Black Orpheus" (winner of the Cannes Film Festival, a Grammy and 'Oscar in the same year), helped introduce Jobim compositions of the American public and other important members of Bossa Nova as the guitarist Charlie Byrd , saxophonist Stan Getz (Byrd and Getz collaborated for the 'influential Jazz / Samba) and the housewife / singer Astrud Gilberto, who, along with her husband Getz and João, have made "The Girl From Ipanema" a great success helping to make it the most popular song by Brazilian Bossa Nova. The genre Bossa Nova and Twist were born together in 1960 and have the place sound like Cuban Mambo, Rumba, Conga, Cha-Cha-Cha, Boogaloo and Afro-Cuban Jazz beat the late '50s (with Machito, Xavier Cugat, Perez Prado, Tito Puente, Mario Bauza or Pucho) and the Jamaican Calypso. Then the sound Carabbeen and Twist died in '62 while the most captivating Bossa Nova peaked in popularity around the world in the mid-60s and has remained a musical genre valid to date with the "Acid Jazz and Cool Jazz "of the '80s and the' Lounge and Cocktail Music" phenomenon of the '90s.

An Iceberg is a large mass of ice detached from a glacier or from a floating platform of glaciers that drifst in the sea. It is in constant motion and most of its mass remains submerged under surface of the water. The goal of this new Iceberg series of releases on Glacial Movements is to describe through techno / dub music this huge mass of ice. Each record release will be produced in a special maxi digipack with images printed and embossed in spot gloss.

The first chapter of this series is "Zastrugi" - the first techno glacial album by Netherworld. It's a wind-eroded, hard-packed snow surface with irregular grooves and sharp ridges that is mostly found in the earth's polar regions as well as on high mountains subject to high winds. The ridges, often appearing like frozen waves, form parallel to the prevailing winds and are usually found on windward slopes. The windward surface is usually rough and has a sand-blasted appearance. The snowy surface is very hard and is difficult to cross by foot or on skis. Netherworld aka Alessandro Tedeschi is also the creator and owner of Glacial Movements Records in Rome, Italy. He published several works on various labels such as Fario, Angle Rec, Umbra, and Taalem, The Wire Tapper Series and Glacial Movements with releases like "Morketid" (2007), "Over the Summit" (2011) and "Alchemy of Ice "(2013) .These were critically acclaimed gems of ambient music.

Rhodes got his start in music the same way countless other artists have by playing in a friend's band just having fun and not thinking it would go anywhere in particular. Fast forward to the start of 2013 when a friend suggested he start writing his own music and that's where it all began to change - RHODES picked up his guitar and unearthed his own startlingly beautiful voice starting with his debut EP 'Raise Your Love' the same year.

From there Rhodes spent 2014 touring and releasing two EPs including the 'Home' EP that spawned the lead single 'Breathe' and continued the wave of support for him including a Radio 1 INMWT playlist addition and a performance on Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer show. The EP release week also kicked off the start of his sold out headline UK tour including two dates at London's Olso Hackney.

Picking up where he left off Rhodes is back with 'Turning Back Around' as the first single taken from his eagerly anticipated debut album. The single sees Rhodes reunited with James Kenosha, who worked with him on his acclaimed debut EP 'Raise Your Love', to co-produce the new single.

This year Rhodes is building on what has been an incredible 18 months - not only touring with music's finest (including Ben Howard, London Grammar and Sam Smith), but selling out his last two tours completely. Rhodes heads out for 6 further shows this March including his biggest sold out show to date at the Village Underground on the 10th.

Afer four years of incremental musical evoluton, Vessels emerge into the light with a brave and
brilliant new sound, masterfully fusing the widescreen builds and elegant breakdowns of their previous
work with altogether more physical electronic rhythms. With their EP Elliptc, Vessels are frmly fo-
cused on the euphoria of the dancefoor.

After his international breakthrough on LV's album Sebenza on Hyperdub, Okmalumkoolkat continues blazing a trail with yet another big impact release. The EP Holy Oxygen I is produced by LuckyMe signing Cid Rim and The Clonious, known for his excellent releases on Affine and Ubiquity Records. This collaboration was booted into life during the Viennese producers latest South African tour with stops in Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Umlazi, Durban born Simiso Zwane skilfully manages to mix his mother tongues and his own slang into a truly urban blueprint of thriving languages. Zulu, English, Afrikaans, seemingly effortlessly expressed in brilliantly interweaved themes and topics.

Planet Mu are honoured to be invited to look back through RP Boo's archives and present the cornerstones of his style, which would emerge from Chicago's Ghetto House in the late nineties and develop into the genre of Footwork.
These six minimal, repetitious rhythm tracks weren't officially released at the time, with the exception of the original version of '11-47-99' (The Godzilla Track) which came out under DJ Slugo's name in 2001, but was actually written and produced by RP Boo. Others were white labels for Dance Mania, never fully released, but which are remembered locally as key tracks in the cementing of the genre at the end of the nineties. 'Baby Come On', often cited as the first ever Footwork track, was recorded back in 1997 - says RP Boo "I got the idea from a Radio DJ who was going nuts over the phrase, and I got busy on the R-70, which I had just started to use, to create the track - it got played out at the clubs and the DJ's and dancers loved it!"
The sample has since become a Footwork staple and almost every producer has made their own version of it. 'Party Motion', built around vocal samples looped into angular patterns and offbeats over a sharp drum machine, was first played at a gym room party in 1998 and got its name from another footwork original - Traxman. '02-52-03' is a remix of the classic '11-47-99' (The Godzilla Track). It is so named because February = 02, 52 = The 52 Hundred Street RP lived on at the time and 03 is the date the remix was made, February 3rd 2003. 'Night & Day', made in 1999, further develops the footwork template with relentless toms and demented pitch shifted vocals. It is the most notable of RP's many songs that sample Larry Levan favourite, Class Action's 'Weekend'. Since then, snippets of that song have sneaked into many of RP's production as something of a camouflaged signature.'Try To Break (Original)'. From 1997, this is another track that made use of a chipmunked sample from 'Weekend' combined with harmonies and looped into a rushing phrase. Originally this was broken in Club Cavallini's, Chicago where it was a very popular club track. 'Try To Break (Remix)'. This is a 1998 remix that was put on the legendary Chicago mixtape that RP Boo and DJ Rashad made called 'No-Edits-Allowed' in 1999.

Felix K arrives on Blackest Ever Black with a front-rank EP of bleak, bombed-out soundboy electronics. Felix has been active in the underground of his native Berlin since the late '90s, often working incognito. His roots are in drum-and-bass, and he has repeatedly advanced and invigorated the genre with his own adroitly minimalist, dub-centered productions, making important lateral connections to austere Hard Wax-school techno and more abstract electronic realms. With their Hidden Hawaii label and its small galaxy of subsidiary labels, meanwhile, Felix and his co-conspirators are futurists who still kill the old way: doggedly DIY, committed to short-run white label culture and covert action. Even in the context of his wide-ranging discography, Tragedy of the Commons' 17-minute title track is a stand-alone experiment in form: a labyrinthine, slow-burning dread epic, beatless but crushingly dynamic, its frail minimal synth lines wandering lonely amid plate-shifting bass drones and a dense, disorienting assemblage of field recordings. It's exemplary Berlin noir: hurt but stoic, pessimistic but unyielding, and closely attuned to the city's strange psychogeography. The haunted weather intensifies in the hulking 'Silent Money'. While dub is there in the DNA of all his recorded output, this is perhaps Felix's most explicit nod to the source, a slow-motion soundsystem downer, armed with frequencies fit to disinter the dead. Ghosts awoken stick around for Onar Anxiety's thunderous sub-low techno remix of 'Fundamentals', their howled chorus equal in force and fury to the cantering tribal drums. The 12" was cut by Matt Colton and comes in full LP-style sleeve, with download code included. Edition of 500.

After spending much of 2014 exploring the darker reaches of UK club music through the likes of US producer Rabit and New Zealand's Epoch, Soundman Chronciles are to kick off their third year with an EP from Keysound affiliate and junglist advocate, Etch. 'The Serpent and The Rainbow' EP not only brings about a shift in tempo, but also a sound that feels far closer to home - a sound undoubtedly tied to the origins of UK sound system culture and Etch's own relationship with the music itself. Lead track 'The Serpent And The Rainbow' is dreamy and atmospheric in a completely unconventional sense - thick, fuzzy bass licks are sewn together amidst a flurry of breaks and sultry female vocal cuts - whilst 'Waterfalls', although tapping into a similar sound aesthetic, does so in more rugged, bouncier fashion. Final track 'The Scientists (Breakology)' listens, as it's name suggests', like a lesson in breaks - although with it's own, left field sense of identity that Etch perpetuates right across the EP. Firmly rooted in the past but brought up to speed with a deftness of touch, Etch's second release for the label is thus a promising insight into his own vivid sound design and a mark of intent from a label already highly-regarded for challenging perceptions.

Created at the foot of Mount Taranaki, 'Hewn' is the sophomore release by Wellington, NZ based producer / musician Groeni. Representing a departure from one idea in order to rediscover and understand another, the record deals with the interactions of two sets of people, paralleling and contrasting them. Throughout the record, the lines become blurred - subjects merge and intertwine, adopting combined, often confused perspectives.

"There are links between the songs, things tie together and reappear at various points. Certain words, subjects and sounds are cut up and redistributed between the five songs." - Alexander Green / Groeni

While retaining the melancholic / dark-pop quality of his previous EP, this record further explores UK bass music from a south west pacific perspective. Using elements of lo-fi mixed with clean production and resampling field recordings and digital synths through tape players and old microphones, Groeni creates an intimate and eery atmosphere that will draw in and mesmerize his listeners.

Astro:Dynamics start off 2015 with a collaborative LP from Berlin-based Ben Thomas aka BNJMN (Delsin, Rush Hour, Technicolour) and Portland, Oregon-dwelling Kevin Palmer aka Best Available Technology (Opal Tapes, Further Records, Left_Blank).

This collaborative album is a document of a musical dialogue between the two artists that has been ongoing for a number of years. The passing back and forth of ideas and snippets in the pursuit of feedback gradually grew into a body of work that eloquently moulds each artist's sonic palettes and approaches - harking back to Thomas' previous cross-atlantic collaborative work with Brainfeeder's Teebs under his earlier Jackhigh handle.

Both artists have appeared previously on the label, with Ben Thomas' first appearance under the BNJMN alias showing up on the label's debut release back in 2010 (later releasing multiple albums and EPs under the name for revered house/techno labels Rush Hour & Delsin) and a 7" from the Singing Statues sub-project in 2012. A cassette of Palmer's ruff and ready jam sessions as BAT (culled from tape recordings made between 1992 and 1999) 'Excavated Tapes' also surfaced on the label in 2013 and saw reviews and features on Dazed & Confused, FACT Magazine, Resident Advisor, Tiny MIx Tapes and more.

Pineapple Circle was a Finnish ambient techno duo from mid 90's. Airy IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) with acid lines were Pineapple Circle's territory during the short peak of ambient techno in early and mid 90s. UPO was a short existing side project by Sahko Recordings and Dum Records and released two EPs in all.

Dolls Combers are three producers from Italy. The trio consists of Manuele Tigani, Vincent Lacerenza and Pino di Pietro, from Milan. They met in 2004 and decided to found Dolls Combers in 2006. That year they have also released their first album called Globalizing' on Little Angel Records, produced by Harley&Muscle. Impressed by their outstanding album, the famous American house label King Street' invited them to remix the track Stalk you' by Ananda Project'. After this commercial success, they worked with all major labels in the USA and in the United Kingdom. They also had the pleasure to work with some of the hottest names of house music. They made remixes for artists such as Dennis Ferrer, Miguel Migs, Stephanie Cooke, Su Su Bobien, Hippie Torrales Roland Clark, Louie Gorbea, Michael Watford, Keith Thompson, Carla Prather and many others. Dolls Combers had the opportunity to work for well-known labels such as Salted Music, Purple Music, Reelgroove, Nite Grooves and many others. Besides that Dolls Combers are constantly working on their production career and have founded their own label, where they feature fresh talents. The Dolls Combers trio performed as DJs and live act in some of the hottest venues such as The Winter Music Conference in Miami, Manchester, Milan and South Africa little Angel Records proudly presents the long-awaited second artist album from Dolls Combers. The double CD Cooking Some Music' contains 24 beautiful soulful house songs. CD1 one is the brand-new album and features 12 songs. The vocals are performed by James Vargas, Kholi, Dana Byrd, K-Modi & Stone&Bones, Miz-Dee, Dawn Williams and Tantra Zawadi. CD2 presents 12 classic Dolls Combers songs from their own label, including a remix by the legendary Hippie Torales and featuring vocals by Simon Green, Donna Hidalgo and many others. I Want My Minutes Back' is the second single on 7' white vinyl from Snapped Ankles, which will be released on 02.03.2015 and was recorded by Capitol K and mixed by SchwaB.

Snapped Ankles blur mediums and boundaries, of performance art, film, and sound, drawing upon references that inspire the underlying dark-surreal-wit of their work. References such as Kathy Bates' character Annie Wilkes from the 1994 American Thriller 'Misery' (who inspired their name) and the 19th Century naive-art construction Palais Ideal by Ferdinand Cheval. Their performances are a phantasmagorical spectacle, the Ankles appear draped from head to toe in large unruly yeti suits, a visual nod to dark devils that haunt the forests in pagan folklore.

They have performed in Hairdressing Salons, Skate Parks and Grain Silos and are part of the Performance collective London Topophobia. At these shows the band have been known to surround the audience, playing their percussive "Synth Logs" to create a minimal homemade techno that has best been described as "agricultural Kraftwerk"i

Run by two Tokyo based Frenchmen, Jazzy Couscous is a new label rooted in
a love for Jazz and the urban movements it spawned, from House to Hip-Hop
and everything in-between.
House music nerd with a Hip-Hop background, Alixkun is the DJ of the crew.
You can catch him playing numerous clubs around Tokyo and writing for
Japanese house encyclopedia House Definitive. His journalism and highly
regarded sets led him and the team to be invited on stage for Dommune,
Japan's Boiler Room equivalent.
Klodio, on the other hand, is an upcoming producer to keep an eye on in 2015.
Soon to drop his debut release 'Toktroit', he pays tribute to some of his biggest
musical influences, Detroit and Tokyo; combining a clear love and appreciation
for the early UR House sound, with a fresh Tokyoite vibe that will take you on a
full speed night drive through the neon highways. A versatile soul head, equally
at home with House, Techno, Hip-Hop, and even Drum'n'Bass, Klodio knows no
boundaries when it comes to expressing his deep Jazz infused roots.
This year will see various projects in which Alixkun will express his soft spot for
Japanese rare-grooves and Japanese House music. Also planned for release is
a second EP of fine House music by another French producer, so stay tuned for
more by Jazzy Couscous!
