Matt Karmil was born in 1979 near the giant pre-historic glockenspiel / mythical neolithic monument known as Stonehenge. His debut EP for Studio Barnhus, following 2014's masterful remix of Talaboman, is an homage to the Nacksving studio in Gothenburg, another mythical place that Matt calls home.

A lot has changed for Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets in the past two years since they first send me a demo with their music. When we met in Amsterdam in 2011, they had just started their Detroit Swindle project and were making music just out of fun. They did not yet think of taking it to a more professional level. After some time, Elef got them to send me a few of their first tracks, which resulted in the 'Nothing Else Matters' EP together with the now 'classic' Detroit Swindle track 'Jick Rames' on it. 'Jick Rames' is truly a breakthrough track for the guys: it was something completely different at the time with its ultra slow tempo combined with Detroit/ Chicago-esque feel and hip hop attitude. Along with their well received release on Huxley's 'Saints & Sonnets', this marked the jump start of their musical career and it were these releases that marked the way the guys would take, combining the early 90's garage styles with deeper Detroit and Chicago house influences. Their music sounded so fresh and new that you could immediately pick out a Detroit Swindle track when you heard it in the clubs. It was something about their way of building breaks and especially the rhythms that had a typical 'Detroit Swindle' style with lots of shuffle and off-grid action going on. Their tremendous rise in the house scene already got them to be noted as newcomers in the 'Making a splash in 2013' section in DJ Mag and from there it just went off.

Amir Alexander's Anthology one brings together 4 of his most in demand tacks spread out over 3 EP's onto one 12 inch compilation. Necessary Sanctuary has proven to be an instant classic since it's quiet and humble release 5 years ago. Only 200 copies were made with 150 ever making it to the stores, by the time people knew about it, it wasn't available anymore. That is,until now. Both tracks are included. The Original Mix and the 3 AM Dub. Also included is The Universe from his Deep Vibes released Outsider Music EP, as well as The lovely Transcend for Amir's first full solo EP on Machining Dreams. Wow how time has flown by.. It was almost a year ago to the day that the concept of Pathway Traxx was born, and we now find ourselves charging full steam ahead into our 3rd release.
This time round we welcome a very talented young Italian producer who goes by the name of Federico Curatolo. Federico first came to our attention just over a year ago with a track on the hugely successful 'The Lost House Tracks Vol.4 (12inch)' on Houseworx Germany. In more recent times we've seen him release with the likes of Holic Trax and Movida records. Federico might only be 19 but he shows musical maturity well beyond his years. Having played piano and keyboard since the age of 10 and producing house music since the age of 14, its clear this young gun has talent flowing through his veins.
For PT03 Federico offers up a lush and heart-warming A-side to this EP, with the spine tingling title track 'The Orchestra' and the very retrospective 'Piano 909'. Meanwhile the B-side offers a more hands on rough ride with the outright banger 'House Warrior' and Liam Geddes brings us a dark twist on his interpretation. As always, we've tried to create an EP that has a little something for everyone and I'm sure this release will not disappoint, as Federico once again sends out a message to all that he is one to watch!

Aus Music follow up a string of records from fresh signees Paul Woolford, Tom Trago and Recloose with the return of a long term friend and label favourite Marquis Hawkes. Hot on the heels of his recent LP 'Social Housing' - the Berlin based artist lines up 'Doornroosje', a tight a two-tracker that remains consistent with his output on Aus: dancefloor-focused jams suffused with simplicity and soul. 'Discopuss' kicks things off with a potent combination of samples and hardware as sassy Funk samples are propelled by tough crunching drums. The title track then follows up with piano stabs and busy, percolating synth lines driven at a pacy rate to rapturous effect rounding off another solid addition to Aus Music's catalogue.

The second release on the vinyl only series of Apes Go Bananas finally drops. The label is the new imprint from Steve Bug and Clé, who together make up the production team for the releases. As with the well-received first EP, 'All We Have ' is straight-up, no-nonsense, dance floor-filling house tracks. Lead cut 'All We Have' settles right into the groove with crisp and funky percussion, chi-town chords and amazing vocal samples. It's got peak time written all over it. 'She Cargo' makes its influences pretty clear via the title, and the track certainly references some of the iconic sounds of the home of house. Thick, rubbery bass lines, squiggly synths and firing percussion combine to deliver a suitable a homage to the windy city. 'Ape Parade' is built from some similar materials, but the chords are a little more lush and deep - synth strings and keys add a sense of the epic, and everything is tied together with a sick kick / snare / hat pattern. Three modern killers for the floor, infused with the spirit of classic house.

After warm welcome of the Soul Habitat's first EP, second one continues the journey into darker side of modern underground deep house music.
Soulful flowing vibes and melodic bass sequences opens up the EP's title track - "Midnight Groove". This fine piece of music proves that underground deep house can be really funky too. Sampled classic sax parts merged together with heavy stomping beats, shuffling percussions and moody soft chords - a real soulful house DJ's must have.
Second track - "It's Been A While" - is minimalistic dark themed roller. Groovy rhythm experiments and classic vocal samples combined with chord stabs makes this track an essential DJ tool. Deep organ riffs can put the party into a deep hypnotic state - just play it loud and see the result.
B side is all about old school. "Detroit Detour" is a tribute to the true roots of house and techno music. Raw 909 beat, deep bass, dirty organ samples, high pitched strings and classic synthesizer sounds from the previous era is what makes this tune feel like a "classic" dancefloor filler from back in the days. Plain old school tune with a modern twist - this is how one could easily describe it. Plus there's a synthesizer melody section right in the middle of the track that opens time travel gate and brings back all the best clubbing memories from the 90's. Be sure to listen to the whole track - it's definitely not only about pumping and smashing.
Very special remix treatment on "Detroit Detour" comes from the NYC original DJ and producer - Doug Gomez. If You're into atmospheric tracks that has this strong detroit / NY influenced vibe, this is the right tune for You. Mad bass drops, unusual mysterious synth parts and smooth beats - all wrapped up in interesting arrangement. Doug's trademark big bass, ambient pads and refreshing melodies always equals big tune - he's the one to watch for in the nearest future.

Hubie Davison returns to Leisure System with the vinyl-only someonelove/in_out 12", his first official release since the success of his summer anthem "Sanctified" on Midland's ReGraded imprint.
"someonelove" marks the first time Davison's sampled his own voice for a hook - expect to hear his voice much more in future productions. On the B-side, "in_out" forgoes vocals entirely in favor of chunky, grooving machine-funk. It's an addictive acid joint, with a title that reflects the spontaneous nature of the original recording.
The someonelove/in_out 12" is Davison's third release on Leisure System, following 2013's meditative I Won't Be There EP and 2014's storming Khayyam Grey EP.

In the follow up to Huxley's 'Widow' EP - AUS present their second offering of 2016 and in doing so welcome back two label favourites: Timothy Blake and Marquis Hawkes as 'Hawkes & Blake' Both artists made outstanding debuts for Aus last year, with Hawkes having more than a hand in Blake's 'Stormy Search' EP before delivering his own disco inflected hit 'Chances'. Now we see a continuation of the studio chemistry as both parties join forces and present 'Love Precipitation': a pair of no frills bombs built strictly for the dancefloor. Playful piano lines and jubilant synths are propelled by expertly crafted 909 drums throughout, recalling in equal measure the classic garage sound of Detroit and the soulful grooves that emanated from New jersey in the 90's.
