Zafsmusic.com continues to bring you the rarest disco & boogie bangers with his new compilation titled 'Private Wax' Vol 1. 15 scintillating excursions into the deep disco & boogie world of privately pressed & produced gems. Zaf Zafsmusic is a disco weasel of the highest order. He has, by his own admission, got it bad-losing sleep and suffering physical maladies from the want of certain must-have pieces of stamped vinyl. Fortunately, he also has excellent taste and a lengthy history of wheeling and dealing with other similarly afflicted individuals, a history that has allowed him to sift the wheat from the crap, err, chaff, as it were. As a long-time staffer of the notorious Reckless Records on Berwick Street, a hotbed of vinyl commerce in the Soho section of London, these skills were no doubt put to the test on a daily basis when dealing with the continuous influx of hustlers hoping to offload their by-and-large worthless wax at the shop. Faced with this parade of the common and shoddy, it takes a keen eye to single out the precious stones buried in the seemingly endless expanse of decent-but-ordinary (not to mention the middling-to-awful) records that comprise most collections. Our stalwart selector has also travelled an even more treacherous terrain: the world of online sellers. Without recounting any gory digital battle stories, suffice it to say that the online world inhabited by some vinyl obsessives is a rather scary place. It is without any sarcasm that I offer my sincere gratitude to Zaf for the yeoman's work he has put in discovering the tunes herein. So, while I still encourage all neophyte disco enthusiasts to get themselves a firm grounding in the classics before attempting to swim in the uncharted waters of small-label, independent releases, if you are ready to do so then Zaf is your man. true house music classic, Alcatraz's 'Giv Me Luv' returns early-2013 on the 1trax imprint with a wealth of remix talent stepping up, including H-Foundation, Two Armadillos, Doc Martin, Dodha, Shenoda and Secret Society.

Originally released in 1995 on Deep Dish's Yoshitoshi imprint, 'Giv Me Luv' represented some of the finest post-tribal, New York influenced house music around. With possibly the most recognisable stabs in house history alongside the titular vocal refrain and crunching drums, the Victor Imbres and Jean Phillipe Aviance production was undoubtedly the biggest record of the year and saw re-releases on countless labels around the world.





Now, 1trax, have put together the first remix package in the release's history that truly compliments the original's house anthem status. From the modern West-Coast H-Foundation interpretation to Shenoda's distinct UK version, each mix provides a welcome new slant. Giles Smith and the late Martin Dawson's Two Armadillo's project deliver a deep, impeccably judged take while 1trax stalwarts Dodha and Secret Society provide brooding and slo-mo takes respectively. Doc Martin, as you'd expect from a true house master - also nails it.





A bonefide house classic being reworked by some of the genre's finest talents, old and new, is an enticing prospect and this package delivers across the board.

Vape is the italotechno project of the Riviera band. Their first tracks range from the charming pop womanly appeal of "Antonello" to the pesticidal harshness of "Raid", across the gross provincial anthem "Radioactivo".

Vulcano is the joint venture of Marco Shuttle and Perseus Traxx with the Vape manufacturers at the Brenta Studios. Their poisionous bits sprayed on this 12" are the state of the art in pest control.

It seems odd that NeoSoul Deep House outfit Ananda Project's latest album is called Beautiful Searching, when all they had to do is look in their own backyard. Ananda has always been an organic-meets-electronic collective effort spearheaded by frontman Chris Brann (pka Wamdue Project, P'Taah, etc.) who for well over a decade has hand-picked a veritable cream of the singing crop to feature on the past 3 albums. Soul-filled and Jazz-influenced singers like Gaelle, Terrance Downs, Heather Johnson, Jonathan Mendelsohn, Lydia Rhodes, Heidi Vogel, Denise White and many others, helped firmly plant the group on the musical map. While Heather has gone solo, Terrance Downs has hung on, contributing and co-writing 2 singles on this album of 14 divinely sweet-sounding songs. Once you listen to "Hanging On," originally released with remixes by Frankie Feliciano, and "Where Do You Come From" you'll hear Terrance's undeniable charm shining through his vocal and it's as impressive as the first time you heard it more than 10 years ago. Also returning is Kai Martin with 3 songs, the guitar licked and lovely "A Second," sweetly rhythmic "Truth Comes Shining Through," and the funky and flawy "Come Back To Me." Debuting on this album are 2 other well-known talented beauties, namely the Japanese R&B/Soulful songstress AK with the jazzy and enchanting "Heaven is Right Here" originally released with remixes by Kiko Navarro, and Mia Tuttavilla's deep house sensual spoken word "Awareness," that was originally released as a single with remix by the world-renowned Kerri Chandler. Mia is best known for her vox with Dennis Ferrer on the worldwide smash hit by "Touched The Sky." Also debuting on this album is Afro-beat/R&B/Soulful songstress Sepsenahki whose soft and sexy voice can be heard on "Love Like This." This album is just as incredibly well-produced as you'd expect coming from producer Chris Brann, who has never fallen short of offering a musical tour de force time and time again.

The Skebs are back, with two edited versions of obscure Japanese B sides: Great Tokyo Disco, from 1979, an uplifting Nipponese take on
Salsoul and MFSB, replete with synth, strings, off-beat hand claps, breakdowns, slap bass and boudoir sighs. Backed with a J-Pop meets boogie tune, Fly Away. From a 1985 release, a bass synth mid-tempo number with understated vocal from Momoko.

BEATEN SPACE PROBE is the rising star of the new Tokyo disco edit scene. His first record on GLENVIEW comes with 4 edits, the first being his take on BROOKLYN DREAMS "STREET MAN" followed by BARBARA ROY "IF YOU WANT ME" on the flip is NORMA JEAN WRIGHT "SORCERER" and LARRYS FAT BAND "ACT LIKE YOU".

Beside making music they been and are an active part of Tokyo's DJ culture. Till today they release three full length solo albums and twocooporation longplayers with artists such as Fat Jon or Tsutchie. They alsotoured massive around Japan, Europe, and the USA to spread their musical vision all over the planet.
In the last years Force of Nature been quite interms of collective production work. KZA released a string of highly acclaimed solo records on Endless Flight while DJ Kent emerged with his own unique sound and musical style to one of the most highly respected DJs of Japan.
Now thejoined their force of nature again for a mix cd that is not concerned about what is hip and hot. Timelessness is the leader and house, disco, balearic, and cosmic vibes in a gentle way call the tune.

The mix starts slowly with a melodious folk guitar-laden dub version of the track - Lay' produced by Leeds finest audio seducer James Holroyd aka Begin. With the passage to the Lexx remix of - Field of Dream', a guitar loving balearic track originally produced by The Project Club, their mix start to highfly and gets breezy, open, and full of groove.

Grand Corporation is the latest alias of Andy Meecham (Emperor Machine/Chicken Lips) and Stevie Kotey (Bearfunk/Chicken Lips), features the incredible vocals of Deborah Bell, and really cements the reputations of two of scenes finest producers.
The Grand Corporation sound is inspired by the very best dance music from Detroit/Chicago/New York, resulting in some raw, sleazy and soulful early house vibes. There may be bit of a trend for reproducing classic house sounds at the moment, but these guys are seriously qualified to do it and unlike a lot of their peers capture the essence of what made this music so exciting in the first place.

Highly in-demand after support from DJs such as Rahaan and Harvey, this killer double A-sided 12' kicks off with the awesome 'Magic Mandrake', a funky, undulating groove-stomper featuring an unstoppable bassline, boogie horns and sleazy vocals that rock the floor every time. British imprint Outcross Records return this autumn with 'The Passion Crimes' EP by Canadian producer Sean Roman of Hot Waves, Akbal and Strictly Rhythm fame, backed with a remix from label bosses Miguel Campbell & Matt Hughes aka MAM.
This release follows MAM's 'I Can Fly' EP, which saw support from Pete Tong on the title track during his Radio 1 show and was played by Miguel himself during his Radio 1 Essential Mix aired late August: its safe to say the Outcross crew are making big waves as of late. Here the label pushes forward with Toronto based Sean Roman, who's also been making substantial moves in the deep house and disco underground. Hotly tipped as one of Canada's prominent rising talents by Bubba and heavily supported by the likes of My Favorite Robot, Cera Alba and Richy Ahmed, its no surprise Roman's soul-laden disco cuts have found their way on to Jamie Jones and Lee Foss' reputable Hot Waves imprint among others.
'Passion Crimes' opens the release, a hypnotic slice of slo-mo disco, enraptured with warbling retro synths, subtle arps and soft sensual vocal chops, running alongside crunchy bit crushed drums building an intricate melodic depth, while a warm sub-bass wonderfully rounds off the groove.
