This latest release comprises three originals, all infused with an evocative nostalgia. Opening with 'I Can Fly' the pair work in high-pitched synthesizers around a classic 4/4 disco beat, a wonderfully catchy filtered disco vocal hook and an acid style bass, creating a bumping 90s electro vibe with touches of hip-hop aesthetics. 'Beats Can Fly' simply strips back the vocals leaving you with penetrating raw melodies and a crisp drum beat for those wanting things a little grittier.
Closing the release is 'Talking Box', a feel-good number, featuring an electrifying synth hook that ripples through your mind, hooking you from the off. A low-end sub warbles in the background creating a slo-mo rolling groove, whilst bright piano chords lead the way. The 'less is more' approach to the composition does it justice, opting for minimal elements, yet each has a maximum effect, soundly playing off one another to create something retro, heartfelt and enviably captivating.

Surfacing earlier this year with 'Last Home' (the much loved opener to Futureboogie's 10 Year Anniversary compilation), Bristol based producer, drummer & DJ Luke Harney aka Typesun has had his head down for a while. Working on a sound, pulling strands of musical experience together and letting it emerge in its own sweet time.
'Heart Maths', the first single to drop under the Typesun signature, came out of writing sessions with long-time collaborator & general Bristol hero Guido (State of Joy/Punch Drunk). The track presents a complementary mixture of the two artists' trademark palettes: Guy's rambunctious MIDI instrumentation & fierce square waves over Type's signature rugged drum production & cinematic attention to detail.
In one of his most 'dancefloor friendly' offerings to date, the Peverelist remix keeps it sparse & subtle but pounding, whilst retaining the rich string harmonies & wistful traces of piano arpeggios from the original.
For those wanting more, the good news is that 'Heart Maths' is just the beginning, with a full album centred on six key vocal cuts set for release later this year. Starting a promo run with an instrumental single may seem like a strange choice, but think of it as a prelude. With support from such diverse DJs as Pete Tong, Appleblim & Mr Scruff, it seems there's a story to be told so hold tight and listen close.

Next up on Creme Organization is Gavin Guthrie Aka TX Connect with a searing double album of analogue tracks aimed at the dancefloor. It follows Dallas man Guthrie's excellent outings on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, L.I.E.S. and other efforts on Bad Mums Club and again showcases his classic Midwest style run through with plenty of acid goodness. Up first is 'Soundtrack 909', a deep and melodically rich house affair that sooths your soul before '00707' gets rough, jagged and angst with its off time cowbells, brooding hi hats and ever more frantic acid. 'Palm Sunday' then explores more cosmic beat territory in playful, colourful style and 'Metroplex Jaxx' is a rugged, dystopian and foreboding acid jam with plenty of occult melody work buried deep within. 'Aqua Finess' is a wholly malfunctioning acid machine very much doing its own weird thing and on the last side of this double vinyl pack, 'Desmond's Obsession' plays with whacked out electro aesthetics and 'Haddonfield, IL' leaves you on a dour and downbeat note thanks to its crawling synths and lumpy hooks. Overall, this is an expansive and expressive double pack from TX Connect that has more than been the wait.

A gorgeous 6-tracker by Norwegian techno/electro/acid artist Retape. The EP takes off where Drexciya and related projects such as The Other People People Place left it in the early 2000s. The title track takes it away and is the most technoid of all with a driving bassline and open hi-hats while long stretched melodies finish it off; this one sucks you onto the dance floor as if it were one big whirlpool. The second cut "Coir" is a serene a downtempo 4/4 track that gets you overwhelmed with an otherworldly melody sneakily coming in about midway. "EMN" then, pulls you straight underwater with its hard hitting snares, plastic bassline and acid feel. The tempo goes up with "Cars", a delay-heavy spaced out acid track for unstable dance floors. The following track "Rotation" is a beatless excursion into the world of clinical synthesized sci-fi music. The incorrectly named "Moving Down" is the final track and a true upper: high speed melodic electro with a touch of melancholia. Six times lucky, this one.
