ALBERTA BALSAM - HIGHER DREAMS

Spiralling through the space-time continuum, Alberta Balsam's debut EP amalgamates clipped breakbeat with lithe IDM and sawtooth electro. Inspired by the visionary author Ursula K. Le Guin, the vinyl is presented by Dekmantel Records together with a transcendental sci-fi narrative. Printed on a poster-inlay designed by British artist Alex Morgan, the story tells of a quest for survival on a planet ravaged by ecological collapse.

In a bid to rescue all lifeforms from impending destruction, a lone holobot frantically consults her neurobiological interface. Humans can no longer subsist on Earth: waterways are contaminated, and the unbreathable atmosphere has taken on a toxic purple, almost holographic hue. Faced with environmental apocalypse, she turns skyward, to take root among the stars. With nods to the utopian futurism, attunement to nature and alien visions of pioneering electronic artists such as Drexciya and Delia Derbyshire, Alberta transmutes a synergy that's entirely her own. Higher Dreams journeys elsewhere on a passage that's equal parts intergalactic and introspective, questioning how, on the brink of the abyss, we can find hope.

Blasting off the A-side with 'Atuan Tombs' – a reference to Le Guin's masterful Tales From Earthsea series – a cyborg voice narrates plundering through the skeletal remains of an urban landscape. Hollowed out kick-drums thunder in 'Cascade;' glitched-out beats that shatter into incandescent, intricate melodies. On the B-side, the titular track crescendos, it’s biblical vocals conveying the gravitas of an approaching dystopia. Yet Higher Dreams is far from doom-inducing – the EP closes off with ‘Suspended in the Manifold,' the vibrant Roland TR-808 rhythm fuelled by the colossal power of a solar flare.

Renowned for her live hardware-based sets, Alberta flexes her immeasurable skill as a tech-savvy producer adept at constructing danceable, yet simultaneously lush and expansive interludes. Having trained as an epidemiologist, the theme of care reverberates through her music. Crucially, she regards dance as medicine – a primordial remedy to sustain our interconnected existence.

Awanto 3 - Pregnant/star Butchers

Amsterdam's cult producer and DJ Steven van Hulle a.k.a. Awanto 3 likes his samples vibrant, his drums wobbly and his synths sweaty... TIP!
The MPC wizard returns to Dekmantel delivering two new club cuts bursting with wonderful weirdness. But there's more, cause the A1 holds a very special surprise.

For some of you 'Pregnant' may sound familiar. Due to popular demand, we have decided to reissue this 12:42 stomper that was part of Dekmantel's Anniversary Series back in 2012. Don't be a fool and pay silly Discogs prices. We've fully remastered the 2012 version, so make sure you get this baby second time around. 'Pregnant' continuously builds around a vocal that keeps you locked in, while the beautifully constructed synth progressions show van Hulle's keen ear for melody. Fire on the floor guaranteed.

On the flip, Van Hulle serves-up a new fresh cut. 'Star Butchers' is a jazzy deep house gem. The bonus 'Darling Edit' of the latter, is on the deep and dramatic side of things, and easily equally as good. The track is a co-production between van Hulle and the mysterious but utterly talented Darling, who's responsibly for the beautiful keys.

Amsterdam's cult producer and DJ Steven van Hulle a.k.a. Awanto 3 likes his samples vibrant, his drums wobbly and his synths sweaty as a Detroit summer breeze. The MPC wizard returns to Dekmantel delivering his second, full-length album. Gargamel is arguably his most compelling piece of work. Spread over the course of nine tracks, van Hulle shows he's capable of serving up many different styles and genres in his ever-expanding arsenal.
.
The Rednose Distrikt affiliate kicks things off with his friend and co-producer Darling. 'Azrael' builds over shuffling, infectious rhythms, a cluster of vocal stabs and heartfelt keys.
'This Is When We Met', 'Why Don't You' and 'Gargamelancholia' on the other hand, are aggressive, batty-jackin peak-time tracks embracing classic acid aesthetics, while 'Positive Negative' is a stretched-out house jam incorporating the tussle of wonky boogie and tribal bumps.

Van Hulle drops the tempo on 'Hooli Goose', taking slow release hypnosis turns while making a marching band sound cool. The dry drum machines, melted bass and schizo sounds of 'Ride The Dragon' will appeal to the freaks, and the dreamy 'Happy Bird' is a tripped-out set of ambient and lo-fi themes. Last but not least, Dexter enters the stage to do what he does best with 'Thick': showing who's boss of the 808 with a straight-up electro essential.

Basic Soul Unit - Under The Same Sky

Stuart Li, better known as Basic Soul Unit, has been dropping quality records via a litany of highly respected imprints like Ostgut Ton, Crème Organization, Mule Electronic and Versatile over the past decade. Hypnotic and deep, but always funky, Li now brings his rugged house to the Dekmantel imprint for the very first time, serving up this finely crafted follow-up to his 2012 debut album.
Delivering ten Detroit and Chicago-inspired house tracks of the finest calibre, Li's offset and grubby bruk drums are a constant nod to the dance floor, while his melodies lean towards an unparalleled industrial edged emotion. From the LFO-like synth-line and crunchy jack of 'Fate In Hand', to the Levon Vincent-esque techno shuffle 'n mutter of 'Landlocked' and the Morphosis-gone-wild style of 'Unwavered', on the to the dark subbass welt of 'The Rift Between' and the relentless floor destroyer 'Temptress': 'Under The Same Sky' sets the bar fly high for raw yet extremely original house music.

Taken from the forthcoming Dekmantel LP Center Parcs by esoteric Dutch production duo Betonkust & Palmbomen II, comes the 'Leo/ Mirjam'. The track is a rendition of upbeat-melancholic, future- retroism, and a slice of saturated house music. The flip features a special, unyielding, acid-tempo rework by Legowelt. Likely to vanish soon.. Dutch psych-rock artiste Jacco Gardner, and production partner in crime, the percussive culprit behind many a twisted tropical beat, Nic Mauskovic, have teamed up for a devilish EP of cinematic, Balearic disco for their debut EP as Bruxas. Wielding a love for the wild and exotic, Más Profundo is a record influenced by the black arts, the sun, and the love of making nostalgic, summertime music.
.
Fall under a deep, exotic spell with the new project that is Bruxas, a psychedelic journey into the tropics. Together Gardner and Mauskovic are all about pure vibes, and international feel. You will constantly be picking the sand out from the record's grooves, whether you play it on the beach or not. Gardner's self-titled solo project, featuring Mauskovic on drums- has to date, won him many, global plaudits, comparing him to the likes of Broadcast, and Tame Impala. Mauskovic meanwhile garnered himself a reputation for sub-equatorial percussion, featuring in bands such as Altin Gün, Eerie Wanda, and of course, the aptly-titled cumbia, new-wave act, The Mauskovic Dance Band.

Bruxas came together when the two were playing backing band for the 70s James Brown-meets-Black Sabbath act, Witch. Feeling inspired, they began their collaborative musical odyssey by writing new music together in Portugal.

(Bruxas is Portuguese for witch by the way). "It was a combination of things that sparked the idea to start Bruxas," Gardner states, "our love of 70s soundtracks, library music, African disco, and Afrobreat." Mixing together their well-honed percussive rhythms, along with layered synths and the occasional vocal, Bruxas was born, a project less on the side of fuzz-rock, and more on the side of an occultist rhythmic, devil-dance.

"We both love exotica and electronic music. I was really getting into library music while working on my last album, stuff recorded in the 70s that is difficult to classify, where traces of psychedelia can be found in almost everything. We wanted to make our own mix, and see if we could mold it into a contemporary music project, that's easy to bring to the stage." - Jacco Gardner

The Dekmantel EP is a kaleidoscope cabinet of curiosities, unearthed from the tropical wilderness. 'Más Profundo' is the deepest of all the treasures, while 'Tropicacovas', with its wistful island ambiance, conga beats and rolling bass, soundtracks the whole affair, before delving into the jungle with 'Selva Cosmica'. Animals gasp as the energy becomes more electric, while the Dutch duo play on, with 'Plantas Falsas'. A true carnival of wild assorts. Drinks are free. Fun, and sunshine, there's enough for everyone. "Each track is a little journey, some through Africa, others just at a fancy Italian pool party," Gardner says about the EP, "there is definitely a worldly character about them, which ties into the exotica element that connects all the tracks."

ALBUMSI

Dekmantel Records

“Welcome / to my galaxy / of snare drum samples / full of emotions”

The year is 2019, and Jan Schulte is spelling out his vision in simple terms. Within the first few of Albumsi’s hour-plus runtime, our host lays out the mat, and welcomes us to the ‘Galaxy’, just as he welcomed us to ‘Zum Paradies’ on Instrumentalmusik von der Mitte der World. There, he donned a Wolf Müller mask. Here it is nom de doof, Bufiman. The directive is clear: buckle up, as this trip advisor for countless left-of-the-dial dancers and deep thinkers alike is back in the hot seat.

True to his word, the first thing that hits is the drums. Across the album are samples that Bufiman has been collecting since he was a mere Bufiboy. Recordings culled from market stalls 20+ years ago and song sketches that lay dormant since 2006 get a facelift at the Wolf Müller Flanger Studio and walk into the world as finished articles. A proggy tribute to funk classic ‘Blow Your Head’ takes this updating job most directly, transporting Fred Wesley & The J.B.’s to the fringes of a Frankfurt rave with a decanter of spiked punch, doin’ the worm through a space-time wormhole as they go.

Sometimes those drums jive away steadily, and sometimes they boom and bap right under your nose (and in the middle of the LP, they are barely present at all). Live instrumentation and digitised rat-a-tat link like brothers in arms. What might Mantronix sound like if they were from North Sentinel Island instead of New York City? Albumsi could be the answer.

This is the first record Bufiman has since leaving his day job of 11 years. It is the first made after touring and exploring some of the furthermost pockets of the globe – something that left a naturally great and greatly natural impression on him. A switch was flipped, he says, once he realised he could finally paint these pictures without pressure: “For the first time in my life I suddenly had a studio, a bit of gear and 3-4 days of time every week at once. Before I might have had one or two of these components, but never all at once.”

The resultant Albumsi is the most accurate measure of the ‘man to date. Thick waves of bass lap up at an exotic shoreline of greenery and indistinct birdsong. Tunes swell, ebb, crest and recede over 6, 8, 13 minutes at a time. Are we in Goa or Grafenburg? Rasping synthesisers taking off on ‘Well, Traumhaft’ and SFX like suction cups on ‘Hoolock Rock’ suggest the latter. But then, listen to the ecosystem of competing animal voices on ‘Apo-Calypso’ or the marriage of hand drums and wavering lead on ‘Pantasy’, and it’s impossible to be sure.

As ever, our host does not toil in studio solitude. Master mastering engineer Carsten Dämbkes brings the hi-def best out of the dense thicket of grooves. Close collaborators and friends like Niklas Rehme-Schlüter (Cass.), Lucas Croon, Nikolai Szymanski (Airchina), Alexander Dorn (Credit 00), Gregor Darman & Aki Vierboom (Phaser Boys), Sara Dudzinski Rodriguez and Florian Van Volxem variously add tweaks to the kit and compliments to the overall product.

Truly however, Albumsi begins and ends in the galaxy of Bufiman. With feet in the forests and head in the night sky, one arm pulling samples from the past and another jutting fingers into the future, the album is a rich stew of sounds, mantras and motifs and that have been simmering inside for a long, long time.

Central - Political Dance #2

Hailing from Århus, Denmark second largest city, Zaks feels closely connected to the rock, punk and experimental scene blooming in his hometown. The same DIY esthetics can be found throughout his own, idiosyncratic take on electronic music that, apart from being highly distinctive, is best to be described as incredibly versatile.
Central's sterling Dekmantel Records debut is spread out into a montage over four sides of vinyl - DKMNTL034 & DKMNTL035. On the second EP, the innocuous playfulness of 'Tubelife', the soulful and brooding 'Detour King' and the jazzy undertones of 'Politcal Dance' are colorfully-plumed dance tracks drawing on jazz-soul and deep house knitted together with impressive precession.

GROOVEBOXX LP 2x12"

01.01.2040

Welcome to Dazion’s Grooveboxxx – a maxi-sized love letter to The Hague’s 80s and 90s club scene crafted with minimal tools and loaded with vibe. It’s no coincidence it arrives on Dekmantel, a label with its own roots in the same Dutch city’s electronic music culture.

Dazion is The Hague’s Cris Kuhlen, previously spotted releasing on Second Circle, Safe Trip and Animals Dancing. He cut his teeth clubbing and working at long-since closed clubs like Eau, described in Kuhlen’s own words as, “clubs with blocks to dance on, lazers, decorations, crazy extravert sic parties.”

In capturing the spirit of Eau and the other formative parties of his youth, Kuhlen limited himself to just one machine to make his longest work to date – the Roland MC-303 Groovebox. While these entry level units from the mid-90s had stripped down functionality in the wider spectrum of studio gear, they contained all the iconic Roland sounds in a Rompler style, giving the user access to everything necessary to make raw, immediate club tracks without requiring an entire studio’s worth of hardware.

The brash gear of choice set the tone for a record of rough, ready and playful jams which end up more sophisticated than you’d expect from such limited means. ‘La DS’ jacks with a freaky, bleep techno intensity, while ‘Kimberly & Nance Backstage Rehearsal’ rides an angular groove tooled to inspire the weirdest dance moves of the night. Every track is named in reference to a particular nightspot, a hazy memory or moment from Kuhlen’s formative raving years.

This is the sound of Dazion having the time of his life. You might well hear a nod to the odd rock totem being given a re-version in irreverent new beat style or some gnarly US acid breaks vibes riding underneath helium rap licks. But for all the cheekiness, the tracks stand up both as nods to halcyon days and relevant workouts for the sweatiest parties in the here and now. As MC Paul T says in dramatic style heralding the intro of Grooveboxxx, “This movement will live on forever.”

Dekmantel Anniversary Series - Part 2

The 2nd in this fine series pops out. Showing the diverse selections of the Dekmantel crew: Awanto3 (Alfabet, Rednose Distrikt), Makim (Dkmntl) and Lone (Werk, Magic Wire, R&S) on the line up this time... TIP!
To celebrate Dekmantel's five year anniversary, the Amsterdam based label release a compilation which features tracks from friends and artists who have
performed at the successful Dekmantel's parties. In a series of five EP's the label presents the genres that they have become know for throughout The Netherlands and beyond: quality house and techno in the tradition off all the good that came out of Detroit and Chicago when it comes to electronic music. Both Dutch and international producers are featured on this comprehensive compilation. The last part will be released in the last week of march as Dekmantel then will celebrate their anniversary with a big party in Amsterdam.
Awanto 3 - PregnantAwanto 3 aka Amsterdam based multi-talent Steven de Peven delivers some
pure Detroit house on this one. A slow burning and ever changing piece of music, loaded with a bunch of strings and keys to warm your winter ears by.
Lone - Rissottowe
There's tracks for your personal hi-fi system, there's tracks for the dance floor, and tracks that are somewhere stuck in between. Lone brings his intentions to the table loud and clear with Rissottowe though - turn up the volume and bring out the rimshots please.
Makam - Cleaning
The living proof that quality house music isn't just related to the two major cities in The Netherlands goes by the name of Makam. The The Hague based producer
has slowly but surely developed his own take on Detroit-infected house music. Cleaning reminds off early Moodyman jazz-tingled house material.

Enter a world of post-IDM, ambient and reggaeton, with a progression of deep synths, reverb, and percussion whose rhythms are born from the southern hemisphere. This is the world of DJ Python, a.k.a. New York based producer Brian Piñeyro, who also sometimes goes by Dj Wey, Deejay Xanax, and Luis. Making his Dekmantel debut with an extended EP of contemporary electronica, fashioned in his cult unique style, Python brings his deep-reggaeton style to the Dutch imprint.

With his first LP Dulce Compañia released in 2017, Python extended his cult status in the electronic music sphere with motives of ambient, and tropicale, all the time keeping his music deeply rooted in classic underground dance music. Along with a Breaking Through feature on Resident Advisor, an almost legendary appearance on Boiler Room — in which he ignited the room in Santiago with bellowing reverbs —, extensive touring, and a residency at New York’s Nowadays (healthy programmed by the team behind Mister Saturday Night), Python has dutifully snaked his way in today’s cult artist category. Making his next step with this six-tracker on Dekmantel, Python aggrandises his prestigious drum sequencing, merging the world’s of drone-driven electronica, cerebral synths, and steely out-of-this-dimension-dancehall.

The EP’s pening track 'Lampara' snakes and twists, like a rugged 90s London broken-beat, electronic exploration, evoking nostalgic feelings a la Boards of Canada. The retro aesthetic flows through with second track 'Tímbrame', where the tropical reggaeton percussion floats through wafty, deep synth melodies and chimes, like a vibey, emotive, come-down, get-down, post-party dancefloor filler. 'Cuando' steps up a gear, as the digital percussive rhythms go into overdrive, while 'Espero' goes all Gaussian, by offering a transportive, meditative expression. 'Be Si To' pulses into full Phython territory, chops-and-cuts-and-slices across a sleuth of Warping, proto-drones. The record’s final track 'pq cq' is a singular question mark about darkness, feeling, and trans-dimensional thinking, as the track shifts in-between kicks that feel one and the same between past, present, and the dub.

Dekmantel happily presents Esa Williams's debut EP Aweh on the label. With his discography growing steadily over the past couple of years, the South African artist constantly breathes new energy into his music by magnificently incorporating global influences in his work. His Dekmantel Records debut and three-tracked Aweh is no exception, and includes his promising hit track 'Blast'.
.
For Williams, Aweh, which is Capetonian slang for 'awareness', spreads the message of his continuous musical journey and presents his many musical partnerships. Especially, 'Blast' shows a true master piece on this release and is a perfect mixture of eerie Afro-noise with staggering traditional Gogo music vocals. 'It's very special to me', Williams says about the track. 'I made this when I was in Uganda to record an album with the children of the legendary Tanzanian artist Hukwe Zawose, including Msafiri Zawose. One of them, Pendo Zawose, had an extremely powerful presence and was doing incredible backing vocals. I wanted to see what she would do if I presented her something totally different, so I put on an extended version of a modern kwaito beat I got from Narch Beats. We only did one take, but her vocals completely blew me away.''

The flipside covers two well-thought gems including 'Rift Valley', a house track mixed up with drums and vocals from the East African collective Santuri and Abakisimba. Aweh's 'Rent-A-Disc' represents the name of a Cape Town based music library that opened its doors in the early to late 90s. The library was the place to be to get all the early house records for many local DJs on the Cape Flats - including Williams's late father - and served as the inspiration for the B-side track. A dark, energetic and yet percussive Cape Town meets Chicago vibe is the result.

Interstellar Funk - Into The Echo LP 2x12"

2x12" vinyl with printed innersleeves.

"Interstellar Funk has crafted a raw, yet simultaneously hauntingly beautiful and endlessly intricate record. Layers of blended harmonies and melodies form the basis for jettisons into leftfield experimentation, heavily processed drums and oscillating frequencies. The result is as infectious as it is pensive; a transcendental journey into a synth-laden landscape.

A stalwart name on our Dekmantel line-ups and with prior releases on the likes of Rush Hour, Berceuse Heroique and L.I.E.S., Interstellar Funk is synonymous with the more brooding side of Dutch electronica. Akin to his DJ sets, which also glide effortlessly between genre, tempo and sound, Into the Echo is daringly eclectic, combining sung-spoken iterations with hypnotic samples and machinic industrial. The release will be supported by a hardware based live-show tour later in 2022.

Ethereal voices haunt the album, a spectral presence emanating both on the titular track and its eponymous twin, 'Octave Echoes.' The latter is built up around breathy reverberations partnered with steely chords and dissected drumbeats. While 'Crickets at Night,' featuring fellow Amsterdam-based producer Loradeniz, switches pace from ghostly ambient to a pulsating, metronome's tick, clockwork rhythms and eerily looped vocals.

Channelling introspective atmospheres, Into the Echo nevertheless holds steadfast to a club- ready beat and momentous bass. 'Northern Winds,' composed with JASSS, edges along the hardcore continuum, exploding with spiraling percussion and flashes of the pair's shared affinity for electro's gyrating-circuitry and dub's ominous dread. And, ionised by piercing synth and bolts of acid, 'Psycho Panner's occultist refrain climbs to an otherworldly crux.

A homage to the potency of analogue machinery and experimental electronica, Into the Echo fluctuates with organic life, often melding synthetic and acoustic instruments together. Guitar riffs flutter on 'Dreamers' before pattering out into warbling, glacial fragments and 'Last Piece of the Puzzle' features a glockenspiel-esque rhythmic element rising to a harmonic crescendo.

INTERSTELLAR FUNK / GUENTER RÅLER - SCORES III

Label Text "Dekmantel once again teams up with RE:VIVE, the cultural initiative setup by the The Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, to pair modern electronic talent with Dutch archival footage. The third EP in the Scores series sees Interstellar Funk and Italian producer Guenter Råler create innovative, modular soundscapes to the graceful visual arts unearthed from the EYE Filmmuseum archives.

As Interstellar Funk, Olf van Elden uses his production competency to craft a heavenly arpeggiated, synth composition to the amateur aquarium movies by J.L. Clement which are edited for this project by Sjoerd Martens. Filmed in the 1940’s, the video’s turn-of-the-century black-and-white style aquatic footage is reanimated through van Elden’s tacit polyphonic, modular sonic soundtrack. Layering together multiple sequences, van Elden pieces together the music as a whole, to mimic the way in which the film was created.

On the B-Side, Italian abstract artist and Dutch native Guenter Raler concocts a deeply introspective, and perfectly choreographed, ambient soundtrack to a select series of pieced together clips from the Collectie Natuurbeelden, the Institute’s Collection of Natural Images. The music plays against the depiction of multiple biological communities in transition; what is referred to as an ecotone. The title itself not only recalls that of a musical tone, but represents the ever-evolving aspect of life and nature as similar colours, along with movements of animals and plants pass on from one image to the next.

Within their own right, the new scores not only give the age-old films new context and sonic character, but exist as creative works as their own, full of resonance and individualism that highlight the retrospective artists’ voices to their fullest."

Joey Anderson - After Forever

One NYC's brightest drops a beauty of a double LP on Dekmantel. Awesomely dope! TIP!
Spring 2014 will see Dutch label Dekmantel release the debut full-length album from New Jersey producer, DJ and Inimeg Records boss Joey Anderson. Entitled After Forever, the album is the natural next step for a producer who has turned out plenty of deep and intriguing techno EPs for labels like Latency, Deconstruct Music and Syncrophone over the last couple of years.

Having been championed by the connoisseur likes of Levon Vincent and DJ Qu before the rest of the world cottoned on, Anderson's style has proved to be truly idiosyncratic, where near bottomless techno grooves get run through with haunted piano lines, shadowy synth work or elegant drones. There are barely ever any claps or snares, instead just plenty of deeply hypnotic kicks and plenty of noir tension.

'Every track on the album has its own take on my personality, my mentality musically and my vision of off-dancefloor music,' says Joey. 'I find it very difficult to create something for people just to like. I'd rather pay attention to making them get close to the album and uncover the ideas within it. Being my first LP, it's dedicated to my two daughters, Akatriel and Auset.'

As well as two tracks that were released on Anderson's previous Dekmantel EP, the album offers nine new cuts and kicks off with 'Space Between Curtains'. Haunting, saddened piano keys linger in the air above metallic synth sounds for the emotive duration of the track. Then there's the teary eyed, end-of-the-world yet optimistic vibe of 'Space Colors Ideas'. After that various intimate moods are explored, from heavy and ominous on 'Maidens Response' to celestial and cautiously uplifting on 'Archer's Ceremony' via 'Amp Me Up', which sees Anderson's spacious and atmospheric style suck you in with its weird, gurgling machine noises unravelling above an unchanging drum track.

It's an album that demands and indeed warrants close inspection, and is the sort of work that really transports you deep into another world far away from here. With After Forever, then, Joey Anderson confirms he crafts moody and atmospheric techno like few others.

Juju & Jordash - Waldorf Salad / Third Planet From Altair

Another killer offering on the Dekmantel label from Juju & Jordash - 2 long assed winners on here! Don't sleep get with the 'Sensational Israeli Jazzmen' sound! TIP! .
'An obsession', that's what making music is for Gal 'Juju' Aner and Jordan 'Jordash' Czamanski, and Dekmantel couldn't be happier that these two possessed masterminds are working for them again in mesmerising ways.

Aner and Czamanski helped shape the Dekmantel label to what it is today - an ever expanding fortress of futuristic house and techno - by releasing two acclaimed albums and various singles on the Amsterdam based imprint. Now the duo prepared two of their out-flooded tracks in the form of their double a-side single 'Waldorf Salad/Third Planet From Altair'.

The title 'Waldorf Salad' refers to the legendary synthesizer that helped shape the landscape of clean, detailed yet warm electronic music. The latter is exactly what you'll recognize in the a-side cut. Juju & Jordash smoothly ride the flawless waves of house music resulting in an unfussy, old school feel. Stirring and instantly infectious, the plodding synths make for an intriguing final chapter of this track.

The aa-side contains 'Third Planet From Altair'. Here Juju & Jordash redefine an anthemic journey with a more than nine-minute-long cut. It's a quick paced, gliding deep house affair with plenty of elegant synth work and closes out yet another essential offering from the duo.

Hot and 'clean' new album from JJ&J...TIP!
Two years after the artistic statement that was their expansive third LP, famed live act and hardware lovers Juju & Jordash are releasing another full-length on Dekmantel. Clean-cut, a nine-track affair, comes lovingly pressed to vinyl in autumn 2014.

The duo fully embrace the album format, creating a tight tapestry of emotive and danceable sound that reveals more detail and depth with each new listen. Textures range from organic and lush to synthetic and arresting. Deep-space serenity gets juxtaposed with more urgent and alien paranoia.

"Clean-cut is tighter, more honest and there's less hiding behind a hazy screen of FX," say the pair.

The new release marks a clear evolution in the career of these singular artists. Clearly, Clean-cut is another feather in the already resplendent bow of Juju & Jordash.

Juju & Jordash have a longstanding and tight relationship with the Amsterdam based record label and event powerhouse Dekmantel. Juju & Jordash are a staple on Dekmantel clubnights and festivals. This is their third full-length on Dekmantel, a further consolidation of their 5 year bond.

Dekmantel won the minds and hearts of electronic music enthousiasts throughout the world with their record label and club nights over the past 7 years. Dekmantel Festival -which saw its first edition in 2013- has seen unanimously glowing reviews for two years in a row now, further affirming the path Dekmantel chose to be the right one.

DKMNTL026 is a club friendly yet sophisticated four tracker that is as abstract as it is deep, and as elegant as it is effective. Raw, energetic stuff for your peak time bag!

Ksoul & Muteoscillator - Soul Hell

Italian duo of deepness pop up on DKMNTL... dope EP!
After appearing on Aroy Dee's MOS label in 2012, Italians Ksoul & Muteoscillator are back with some more dusty and degraded sounding tracks, this time for Holland's irrepressible Dekmantel imprint. There are three new cuts in total from the pair, each exploring a slightly different yet always knackered house groove.

'Soul Hell' goes first and is built on heavy rubber kick drums. Shakers rustle along next to the drums and a bulbous, molten synth line freewheels up and down the face of it all as distant, soulful key stylings bring a human, jazzy touch to proceedings.

'Stinger' is even more crushed and crumpled sounding as the kicks scrap along, and here the colours from the keys and synths are just as muted and fuzzy edged. Like all three tracks there is a rough, frayed texture to everything hear - nothing is crisp or clean.

Finally, 'Detrance' is slow and purposeful with underwater sounding melodies echoing out into a humid night sky. Sharp, laborious hi-hats dangle in mid air as rippling synths offer a more liquid surface and overall the murky sound design really draws you in.

L.B. DUB CORP - SATURN TO HOME LP 2x12"

After a five year hiatus Luke Slater reanimates his L.B. Dub Corp alias for a dynamic, vocal-led ode to the club featuring Robert Owens, Paul St. Hilaire, Miss Kittin and more.

Slater is responsible for some of the most enduring electronic music of the past 30 years, including his grandiose ambient techno project The 7th Plain and the trailblazing machine funk of Planetary Assault Systems. He debuted the L.B. Dub Corp alias in 2006 as an outlet for a broader, looser kind of club music. His third LP the name, ‘Saturn To Home’ also marks his first appearance on Dekmantel.

The result of more than a year’s exacting work, here we find Slater reflecting on his formative influences and funnelling them into eight incisive tracks that range from the feverish passion of ‘Your Love’s infectious chord stabs to the star-scraping breakbeat techno of ‘Only The Good Times’ via the smoky soundsystem tendrils of ‘Golden Star’ and the elastic drums and mutant synth funk of ‘Krank’. As well as celebrating the intersectionality of club culture and the vibrant vocals of his invited guests, it’s also the first time Slater has committed his life-long love of playing drums onto a record — just listen to the sizzling rhythmic tension of ‘Cloak And Dagger’ and you’ll instantly understand where he’s coming from.

From every syncopated groove to the spine-tingling rush of the melodic hooks, Slater tells the story of his life in music, which means his life overall, without ever being stuck in the past.

Slow things down into a full balearic groove with this latest EP on Dekmantel by the Dutch production duo. Barely breaking a sweat over 100bpm, these smooth sunset synth rhythms, full of muted 80s Italo funk, and breezy drum machines, syncopated with the warm, exotic blend of retro keys and ambience, set the EPs five tracks coastal, vibrant dynamic.

Makam - What Ya Doing (incl. Funkineven Remix)

Drum machine fire under a huge hook.... big one for Dekmantel!
The label say:
Here's number ten, with our homeboy's, Makam and Funkineven, on remix duties. Who the hell is Jack anyway
Makam - What Ya Doing
The Hague based producer Makam definitely didn't see Jack play, simply because he's waaaay to young to be bragging about the history of house music. Nevertheless Mister Guy Blanken delivers a stunning anthem in the best of Warehouse and Music Box traditions. Keep those 909 rim shots coming please, but make way for the irresistible breakdown. Aaaargggh! is the word here
Makam What Ya Doing (Funkineven)
More 909 sweetness comes from London based Steven Julien aka Eglo-related vintage fetishist Funkineven. While treating the original with respect, he adds some analogue acid dirt to it. In an everything but subtle way, that is. Peak time stuff!

Makam - Than Sadet Sampler Ep

Makam with a taste of things to come as he flips the sound pallete for his latest 12" on Dekmantel. Housed in a plastic outer sleeve with postcard insert. TIP!
Dekmantel Say" We're rubbing our hands together gleefully for this one: longtime family member Makam will return to DKMNTL Records with a full-length album later this year. Guy Blanken's ongoing search for new sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to Than Sadet, a stunning piece of work that's like nothing you've heard from the The Hague based producer before. We have known this ultra-talented chap for years, but it's fair to say Than Sadet is his most impressive and distinctive work to date. This sampler is a sneak peek into what is about to be an absolute label highlight; a prelude to the new Makam sound. 'Riding High' is a lush, Isolee-esque lengthy house jam, and the blissful ambient ride backed up by tropical birds 'Than Sadet' gives more insight into the new territories Blanken has been digging into. You ain't heard nothin' yet. "

MAKAM - TARP LP 2x12"

MAKAM

TARP LP 2x12"

2x12inchDKMNTL114
Dekmantel Records
01.01.2040

Making a welcome return nine years on from his last outing on Dekmantel, Makam offers up a generous helping of wayward grooves that take his curious spirit even further into unmarked territory. With a strong dub sensibility grounding his rich tapestry of percussion and instrumentation, Guy Blanken follows his own path to arrive at an album that embodies house music as a launchpad for experimentation.

Blanken says himself he was determined to approach his first Makam productions in years from a place of total freedom — "It's not a single direction, but rather a landscape of sounds, moments, and textures. TARP feels like a new beginning, a free project that just had to happen naturally." The steady pulse of the club remains a guiding principle boldly manifested on heads down roller 'Static Shade', but even in the lilting organic loops and tumbling percussion of 'Forgive' there is a funkiness that's beholden to continuous movement.

At times the direct thump of 4/4 disco juts out as a call to dance, not least on 'Flying Birds' and 'La Tuna', but elsewhere the rhythms are more slippery. 'Dub In Loen' plots a delicate path through dub techno and 'Lummel Spirit' casts off into pattering Balearic bliss. The pervasive dub mood of the record comes to the fore on expertly crafted stepper 'Diagonal Rain' and crooked album opener 'Clear Skies'. 'Jackie B' lands as a love letter to quintessential deep house, and yet still there's a left-of-centre charm that gives the track a personality that is pure Makam.

Exuding warmth and imagination at every turn, TARP is the perfect example of how to make a groove-oriented album a rich home listening experience. There are ample moments primed for the spectacle of the dancefloor, but the mellow hue and broad sweep of approaches make Makam's welcome return utterly compelling from end to end.

01.01.2040

Mark du Mosch is a Rotterdam based producer and DJ who has earned the highest amount of respect in the Dutch alternative music scene in the past couple of years. The reason is simple: he dares to go beyond the obvious, his raw yet emotional signature sound being distinctive, versatile and stunningly creative. Expect perfectly executed analogue bliss from a craftsman who is slowly yet steadily making his way into the records bags of global house and techno connoisseurs.
The title track is a quirky display of what the multi-talented du Mosch has to offer. Complex but catchy melody lines meet a highly effective get-in-high gear bassline, bridging the gap between analogue roughness and subtle chords. If this bass-inflicted break down doesn't tear up some early morning dance floors, nothing else will.

Hiccupping kicks, steady groovin' hi-hats and analogue synth patterns that keep building momentum are the impelling ingredients for 'Living Up'. Cosmic warmth topped by lush, ancient sounding yet timeless drums. Emotive stuff that grabs your attention instantly.

From Russia with love; Moscow based cult producer Gesloten Cirkel kicks it up a notch with his rough-and-ready take on 'Living Up'. Wailing synths, piston hi-hats and an everything but straight-to-the-point bassline make for an epic esoteric house jam.

Matrixxman - Sector Iii: Polyphony

Dekmantel regular Matrixxman returns with the third, and final instalment in the Sector series, Part III: Polyphony. In this triptych, the producer from San Fransisco sets out to highlight the key components behind the sounds and style of techno, exploring the range within the confines of a particular limitation. Following Parts I and II, which looked at Rhythm, and Acid, Charles McCloud Duff charters the realm of Polyphony with four, meticulously produced techno tracks, expanding his repertoire of cult, dancefloor music.Polyphony refers to the simultaneous combining of many notes in a musical sequence. In electronic music, this specifically refers to the role of the synthesiser - such as the Minimoog, ARP Odyssey, which can produce different pitches simultaneously. Polyphony has been an integral characteristic of the genre's sound for over a quarter of a century, and can be heard in many key records, living a the sonic forefront of these four tracks. 'Sector Series: III Polyphony' provides an exercise in melody and polyphony. Throughout the EP, swaggering rhythms are inter-washed with a sea of multi-melodious, reverberated notation. 'Initiation' resonates with the grandiosity, and harsh claustrophobia of early Underground Resistance. 'Access Granted', drives hard with pulsing effects, with a dystopic, rhythmic cacophony of euphony. 'Desert Planet' plays around with a differing tempo, imagining a more fantastical vision of music, echoing back to earlier Plastikman productions, using a vast sonic spectrum to conjure up a colour palette of alien imagery. 'Horizon' rounds things off; a track that builds on minimalism with a progressive composition, allowing the polyphonics to drive the track, harnessing the adept production qualities that Matrixxman has come to be recognised for.

OLOF DREIJER & DIVA CRUZ - BRUJAS

The Knife’s Olof Dreijer introduces Colombian - Swedish percussionist and DJ Diva Cruz with a new collaborative EP on Dekmantel Records. The 'Brujas' EP follows the debut of their exciting hybrid live show at Sonár Istanbul and ahead of upcoming performances at Sónar Barcelona, Dekmantel, and Øya Festival. Together, opposing patriarchy, racism, colonialism, capitalism, and immigrant challenges, they joined forces in Olof's studio, resulting in the creation of the ‘Brujas’ EP, where Diva debuts her voice. The 'Brujas' single and the entire EP, meaning "Witches" seeks to inspire us to find that powerful ancient energy within ourselves.

"I dream to empower everyone who feels outside the box with my lyrics. It is so sad to see children singing and dancing to music made by male artists whose lyrics degrade women, and on top of that, they win prestigious awards while doing so. I dream for a better world and especially Latin America, which needs to change the macho perspective and work together for a better world for everyone," says Diva Cruz.

As a percussionist Diva brings a combination of fierce live percussion together with a rhythmic blend of tunes from all over the world during her energetic DJ-sets. She has also been the lead percussionist for both Fever Ray and Robyn on their world tours.

Olof quote: I’m very excited about sharing this music with the world especially since it’s been a few years in the making. I’m very grateful to work with Diva. She has shown me a new world of music and I feel like I keep evolving and learning new things all the time, especially with our new live show when playing percussion together.
