The Reggay auf Band benutzte.

The Bert Inniss National Recording Orchestra, Mighty Sparrow - Slave / The Slave

Slave' is a dark instrumental of Sparrow's 'The Slave' from 1963 by Bert Inniss National Recording Orchestra with backing vocals by March of Dimes Quartet. It was the first release on the National label, which would become Sparrow's home from 1963 to 1967; Spicy, rhythmic, mournful, classic, full of emotions.

'The Slave' was taken from the same title album released in 1963. This album marks a new era in the matchless career of Sparrow. He could not have launched his National Recording Company on a higher note. 'The Slave' is a gem of composition and one of the most memorable works created by a calypsonian in this generation. Maybe it will remain historically significant in the traditional musical development of Trinidad & Tobago for generations. The song is a scathing telling of the fate of slaves in Britain's West Indian colonies. If you've ever wondered where calypso came from this song will tell you. You can actually feel the emotions of the Slaves being expressed in this great Calypso. The genius Mighty Sparrow has taken us back to the plantations so that we can get a front seat view of the hardships of slavery. This narration in song is a must for all students of history in Trinidad & Tobago.

Many of the world's great craftsmen have, at one time or another, created works which were not entirely free from flaws. An astonishing exception in this respect is the greatest calypsonian Mighty Sparrow. From the day he skyrocketed to fame with his composition 'Jean And Dinah' in 1956, Slinger Francisco has not made a weak calypso. All of his long-play records have been best-sellers throughout the Caribbean, in the United Kingdom, the United States and even in Europe.

Alexander Scharf - Nur Mit Dir

t's time for magaritas. Dresden's master of the sampler Alexander Scharf chops up cheesy germanness for greater good and varying experiences: Schlager-upcycling it is. »Nur mit Dir« is a lovely summer day's theme, the anthem of freshly found or long lasting love, the hymn for the night with your loved one. »Ode an die Fröbbe« is the morning after. The morning after the morning of too much togetherness: Honestly weird and weirdly lovable. In the end »Grünalge Christian« keeps it all together. Thank you, Christian. Thank you, Schleander.

Jamaican Jazz Orchestra - Ah Beh Bah / Big Belly Blues

Belgian guitarist and composer Wouter Rosseel's love for Django Reinhardt, Sonny Rollins and swing jazz on one hand and reggae, rocksteady and ska on the other, has moved him to create Jamaican Jazz Orchestra. With ingenious compositions that enter fluidly, Wouter has succeeded in finding the sweet spot where jazz and Jamaica meet, once in a while sidestepping to afrobeat and nyahbinghi.

Several renown jazz musicians, most of them Ghent based joined the project and in 2013 Jamaican Jazz Orchestra was born. After a demo and an EP, Jamaican Jazz Orchestra released their first full album 'Encounters' in 2015 on Zephyrus Records.
Late november they're releasing an instrumental vinyl single with two new songs. (Ah Beh Bah / Big Belly Blues)

Early 2019 the band hits the studio to record their second full album. Recording on analog tape, allowing producer Tom Callens (Lady Linn, Little Dots, South of the Border) and mixing engineer Victor Rice to uncover that typical old school sound of reggae and jazz recordings between 60's and early 80's. The full album is expected in autumn 2019.

First released 1969, the year Derrick returned to England to work with the three Palmer Brothers, Harry, Jeffrey & Carl, whose Pama Records were giving Trojan Records serious competition in purveying the brand new

faster, more aggressive, reggae beat not only to the expatriate Jamaican audience but also to the music's latest adherents... the skinheads. A number of his greatest hits from the period were included on this classic

'Derrick Morgan In London' album, although actually all tracks (were) produced by Derrick Morgan in Jamaica. The set was originally released on the Pama Economy subsidiary which is rather

ironic considering prices for an original copy of this excellent album now start at £100.

This release came about when Mad Professor and Luciano were spending some downtime in Gambia. A mixture of vocal cuts and Dub cuts mean this record is very much a meeting of two great minds. Similar in feel to some

of the classic Roots albums of the 70's where vocal cuts were then followed up with the dub versions. Luciano is the messenger...spreading the word of love and deliverance.

Featuring Black Steel on guitar, Mafia on bass and Rico. This album is paradise!

Versa - Seed / Planting

Versa

Seed / Planting

7"-VinylZAMZAM67
ZamZam Sounds
19.12.2018

ZamZam 67 sees the eagerly-awaited return of the man called Versa (AKA Michael Nickless AKA Michael Versa). Over 10 years deep in the dub game, Versa came to prominence through a string of mesmerizing releases, notably a pair of singles on VIVEK's System label. His first outing on ZamZam (alongside partner Rowl on the B side) went down a treat worldwide - hard to believe it was fully two dozen ZamZams ago! It's always a special kind of pleasure to have an artist back for a second chapter, and this one is a must.

'Seed' opens with the sound of distant thunder, minimal pads, and a time-honored bass & kick combination, elemental steppers for the ages making no concessions to fashion or trend. Melodica drives through the storm, with delicately plucked guitar and FX bubbling to the surface in a reverb-soaked landscape. Much more than the sum of its parts, 'Seed"'s power is in its restraint, its knowledge of its roots, and its confidence in the timeless quality of well-tuned instruments and careful dub mixing.

'Planting' inches the tempo up yet feels much slower, lulling us into a hazy world of lurching half-time magic, with all the same instrumentation in dynamic play, yet creating wildly contrasting results. With chasms of reverb, smeared snares and guitar taking a much greater role in the shimmering dubwise play of absence and presence, dappled light and twilight dark, 'Planting' will pitch up nicely for an unforgettable appearance in a next 140 set.

Versa's deep knowledge of dub and reggae, along with his masterful approaches to techno and deep bass music more generally, makes every release a powerful yet understated event for sound system addicts.

  • B6: None Shall Escape The Judgement Dub - Aggrovators

1976 saw the explosion of punk rock and it's unlikely championing of reggae in the UK and beyond. Through a 12-track LP compilation of essential recordings, Step Forward Youth takes a look at the reggae of the punk rock era in England and its resulting globalization in the late 1970s. The set collects both hit Jamaican reggae originals such as Culture's iconic 'Two Sevens Clash' with influential underground sides like Keith Hudson's 'Turn The Heater On' and obscure roots reggae heat like Barry Ford Band's 'Rebel' to provide a soundtrack for a key moment in music history. Other artists featured include Dr. Alimantado (pictured on the album's cover), Lee Perry, Gregory Isaacs, Augustus Pablo, Michael Rose, Prince Far I and others. The extensive 4,500 word liner notes by Noel Hawks contextualize the origins of the movement by exploring social, cultural, and economic factors and how popular music changed as a result.

Vybz Kartel - Kingston Story

Vybz Kartel's album Kingston Story, produced by Mixpak founder Dre Skull, is a rare example of a dancehall LP that is more than a collection of singles. Its tracks act as an overview of the many sides of Kartel- the lover, the party starter, and the astute social critic. Backed by Dre Skull's booming production, Kingston Story's hits, including the sensual plea 'Yuh Love', the dancefloor anthem 'Go Go Wine,' and the ecstatic love song 'Half on a Baby', can still be found booming out of cars and sound systems from Kingston to New York City and beyond.

Momo Joseph - War For Ground (Édition spéciale)

Africa Seven's next installment returns to Cameroon with a special edition version of Momo Joseph's in-demand LP, "War For Ground", with three extra tracks. Momo may be better known for his work as an actor, having featured in such titles as "La Haine" (1995) and "The African" (1983), but his small foray into music is definitely memorable as he lays it out in true Afro-Boogie style. Apart from two singles, "War For Ground" represents Momo's only other body of work, and only studio album which was self-released in 1983. With this "Edition Speciale" reissue we provide you all the originals from "War For Ground" remastered alongside his party-time classic "Cameroon Airline", "Love Africa Soul" and his lesser known tack "Oh Momo".

The A-side starts with "Africain", which also featured on our compilation "Africa Airways Four". Glistening synth lines work it out over the top of romantic guitars, while the continual and hypnotic vocal chant of "Africa" tells you exactly where this music is coming from and what it means. The tempo creeps up a bit with "N'Gon Le Bek" which again takes advantage of driving guitar lines, this time facing off with the horn section. The last cut on the A-Side is "Out Side No Fine", which flows great after the previous two, keeping up the same aesthetic with a bit more of a tropical feel to it.

The B-side kicks off with the title track "War For Ground". In this one Momo starts off rather melancholic before things end more triumphantly with the backing vocals and horn section again providing much of the driving force. The final two tracks on this record make up the "Edition Speciale" element of this reissue. "Love Africa Soul", taken from Momo's 1980 single of the same name, at first seems to be one of the more straight forward disco led tracks on this release until an ecstatic synth line breaks things up in a forward thinking break down before a trademark Momo groove kicks back in. The other track featured on that single was"Cameroun Airlines", a bonafied afro-disco classic. Next we delved into the vault and unearthed a recording session for "Oh Momo", this never released version of the track reflects a slightly different side of the signer, with a more afrobeat feel.

This "Edition Speciale" version of "War For Ground" offers a thorough observation of Momo Joseph's work as a musician and looks to help shine a light on Momo's career and musical genius.
