Following the Record Store Day release of Donna McGhee's Make It Last Forever, Groove Line Records launches a series of 12' audiophile reissues from the Disco underground starting with the irresistible Heartache No. 9 by DELEGATION. DELEGATION'S 1980 single, Heartache No. 9, the opening track from the groups Ken Gold (The Real Thing) produced album Eau De Vie, is represented on this release in its much sought after 12' Disco Remix version.

Opening with an irresistible, tight, fluid, bottom-end groove provided that sees the crisp drums and propulsive bass, allied to the interplay between the funky horn runs and Chic-esque guitars, Heartache No. 9 has your feet firmly on the dance floor before the stunning orchestration and Ricky Bailey's passionate interpretation of the clever, innovative lyrics bind all the elements together to make this a bona-fide club classic.

The flip side is the equally infectious You And I, also a hit single from Eau De Vie, which exhibits all the traits of Heartache No. 9 with an emphasis on the strong vocal harmonies taking centre stage in front of the more minimal orchestration.

Meet Ephemerals, whose debut LP "Nothin Is Easy" will be released via Jalapeno Records. The band deliver a debut album that is fresh and soulful and will command some serious attention.

On vocal duties is Franglo-American singer Wolf, originally from New York but who has been living in Paris since the age of 14,

Hillman Mondegreen, formerly writer-producer and a founder member for Hannah Williams and The Tastemakers, was on a quest to find the singer for his next project when the Tastemakers tour passed through France. Wolfgang Valbrun was singing for the group that was supporting them and Hillman felt instantly that the New Yorker was the perfect voice.

The songs on the album are classic in style but current in content with many listeners surprised to discover that both Wolf and Hillman are only in their mid-twenties.

The album opens with "Things (Part 1)" a melancholy but uplifting song about growing up and having kids in the world we live in today before the doleful brass of "You Made Us Change" introduces us to the fact that something special is going down here. No tired homage to glory days past just straight up soul played by talented young men and women who feel every note.

"Easy Ain't Nothin" is due to be the first full single from the album and lyrically reinforces the soulful truth that life is to be lived 100% or not at all.

Loving Guaranteed is destined to be a classic and was written by Mondegreen on a canal boat a few days before his wedding. Inspiration for the lyrics came from the marriage vows he was contemplating and the fact he wanted to write a song for people to have as their first dance that captured all the emotion of the moment without the hackneyed sentiment. Guess what He succeeded.

The rest of the album deals with finding love, loving life, cheating, losing and all the other topics that soul men and women have got together to jam about since time began.

Hillman assembled the band from a crack team of players and taught them song by song, and within three scorching days - thanks to a broken air conditioning unit during the July heatwave - the seven-piece had recorded the album live to analogue tape at The Cowshed in North London, and Wolf was on his way back to France. The strings and backing vocals were added in Winchester and "Nothin Is Easy" was complete.

Members of the band include Damian, who also plays trumpet for Kalakuta Millionaires and is also in Hillman's afrobeat supergroup Keke Mokoro; Char, who plays baritone sax for Dakhla, a band with a unique afrobeat/gypsy styling; James, who plays organ for Hannah Williams, as does Jimi Needles, who has been Hillman's drummer of choice since they met at university in 2008.

Rob Jones was the final piece of the puzzle, recommended to Hillman by WahWah45's boss Dom Servini. He played every instrument on the epic Gene Dudley Group album and was brought in to play bass with his trademark tone and casual style.

Also at this session, Hillman gained the backing vocal services of Hannah Curtain (lead singer of HWTastemakers), whom he had traded the favour in return for him writing a song for her next album. "Nothin Is Easy" features heavy grooves and slick production, with Wolf's distinctive howl on top, emoting as only he can about love, social justice, environmental damage and self-determination.l

One year has passed since the last release in this series and, as always, the Tramp Records crew have been working hard during the last 12 months to come up with an equally fine selection of tunes for this brand new volume. Our aim is to keep up with the quality of each release, a task which certainly does not get any easier as we step forward into the twenty first century.

There is no need to praise this selection of tracks. It is larger-than-life. And those who do not recognize the distinctiveness of it should better seek medical advice. The most astounding fact is certainly that 99% of the record buying public have never heard any of these tunes, most likely not even the artists. And we are not talking of people who solely listen to mainstream music. No. Even music lovers who believe that they have a good portion of knowledge when it comes to jazz and soul music will be left speechless.

You can skip to any song on this album and you won't be disappointed. The only premise is that you are a fan of raw, earthy soul and jazz music. If this is the case then you can't go wrong. Much is said in the mainstream media about million-selling records, yet the opposite is true of the no-hitters - the obscurities that sold badly and which sank without a trace. This is the bittersweet experience of a hard-working soul band that experienced the elation of a million-selling chart-topper - but also the dejection of a self-released flop that sold so few copies that barely a handful can be traced to this day. The 1976 album 'Dedication of Love ' by Bobby Moore & the Rhythm Aces is that flop - and is known today in just a handful of copies, selling for up to $2000 on the highly-competitive rare soul market.

In the bustling world of instrumental grime, Mr. Mitch's 'Peace Dub' phenomenon - initially a concept aimed squarely at flipping grime's 'war dub' complex on it's head - has fast become a reputable sub-genre all of it's own. With a series of his own peace edits garnering plenty of recognition online over the course of 2014, Mitch has enlisted a trio of new-school producers to assist him in re-contextualising four unconventional classics and with it, christen a new series of peace-themed white label 12's. Simply titled PEACE001, Mitch is joined by Gobstopper signees Strict Face and Loom, as well as elusive beat-making trio Silk Road Assassins on the label's first ever physical record - a body of work that takes instrumental grime even further into unchartered territory. Kicking off with the brooding heartache of Mitch's fuzzy, emotionally charged re-rub of Dru Hill's 'How Deep Is Your Love', there's also space for Strict Face to turn an icier, washed-out hand to the peace aesthetic on 'Alice' - his beautifully mellow, minimalist rework of Alice Deejay classic 'Better Off Alone'. Latest signee Loom opts to take a deconstructionist route through Kate Bush's 'Running Up That Hill' as glitchy melodies, ushered reverb and pitched-up vocal loops meet harsh, industrial sampling in unerringly dystopian collision of ideas, whilst Silk Road Assassins sign off with their take on T-Pain's 'Im Sprung'. Trickling, iced-out melodies and pitched-down vocals are laid over dark, menacing bass rumbles in a tribute to the sound that has already earmarked the trio as refreshingly slick sound designers.

Charles Blackwell's uptempo dance floor targeted rendition of 'Taboo' is a swinging orchestral piece with a very big sound indeed. The song was originally recorded in the '30s by the Lecuona Cuban Boys, and 'Tabu' or 'Taboo' quickly became a staple of exotic jazz and more in the years that followed. Given possibly a thousand interpretations, onthe flip we pick another cool version of the song. This time heavy on the drums and bongos, with the infamous melody played out on a distant organ with accompanying horn stabs. Lifted from an uncredited acetate, this appears on vinyl for the first time ever!

Two originally unissued sides from the Los Angeles Cash based label here appearing on 45 for the first and likely last time ever! Slowing the pace down, the top side features a lovely, melancholic midtempo blues ballad with sure popcorn appeal. Seemingly based on the melody from 'Why Don't You Do Right', obscure singer Little Margie delivers an endearing vocal turn while the band behind her really cooks. A perfect warm up or end of nighter play. Little Margie also features on the flip alongside Big Boy Groves (aka Ervin Rucker), with an alternative take or follow up to his novelty R&B number 'Traffic Ticket', itself a kind of answer to his 'I Got A New Car' as released on Spark.

Detroit native David Cortez Clowney, known by the stage name Dave "Baby" Cortez, scored his second top 10 hit in 1962 with the all-time classic R&B instrumental 'Rinky-Dink'. Released the same year on Chicago's legendary Chess Records, the album of the same name is a tasty mix of the organ instrumentals that Cortez had become known for. Cortez had probably the greatest run of instrumental pop hits in the late 50s and early 60s, and Rinky-Dink is his greatest album. Back in print on LP for the first time in 50+ years thanks to the R&B archaeologists at Rumble.

Though he may not be as big a name as Buck Owens or Merle Haggard, Tommy Collins was as instrumental as either of those two legends in formulating what is known as the Bakersfield Sound. In fact, the Oklahoma native was the first of the Bakersfield aritsts to reach prominence in the music industry with his second single in 1954, during which time a young Buck Owens was playing guitar in Tommy's band. This Is Tommy Collins is his 3rd and finest LP, a fine example of Bakersfield's hard honky-tonk sound, the perfect antidote to the pap that was coming out of Nashville at the time (and now, for the matter). Hard driving country music from Bakersfield's finest brought back to life on vinyl by Rumble.

In the previous episode: one Queen of Hearts (Catherine Ringer) and two Aces of Spades (Müller + Makaroff) played a game of tango with shades of rock : Plaza Francia. It's beena triumph of leather bound with red velvet. These two worlds have gotten to know each other pretty well. It would have been easy to quickly put out a live album of the tour, and tempting to remix the studio album too. But to mix these two events into one, that's unheard of: it's an audacious venture to rework (and recompose) in a studio the songs recorded live. That's how seven pieces recorded in public on a multitrack were surgically dissected while retaining the live energy and handed over to expert remixers. Chico Sonido and Centavrvs. Sonido comes from digital cumbia and revamped two tracks from the original repertoire with aerial dub, while the Centavrvs collective, who practice a more poppy brand of electro but were bred with regional music (locale) and psychedelic Peruvian music from the 60's, offered the Señora Ringer a comfortable roots and amber setting. The German duo Wolfsburg Pupkulies & Rebecca were also called to service and gave the song 'La Mision' a Berlin shade, sombre and dancefloor till the break of dawn. There are also two remixes signed by Roy Dubb, mystery remixer who is in fact no other than... Christoph Müller, one of the three from Plazia Francia, who has been remixing tracks for years, either in his pre-Gotan Project phase

Super-sassy and super-sexy R&B twin-spin from lesser known female blues shouter Carmen Taylor, with 'Ding Dong' a slouching, sleazy mid-tempo twiston the 'Hound Dog' motif and 'Big Mamou Daddy' an uptempo Rock & Roll honker. Early Atlantic pressings were notoriously hissy and pressed quietly on 45rpm, which makes this newly mastered pressing the best way to enjoy these largely forgotten killers on DJ-friendly 7" vinyl.

Long awaited follow up to the original game-changing Jukebox Mambo set of sweltering rumba accented Rhythm & Blues. Two years in the making, this sequel ploughs deeper still into the revolutionary '40s and '50s Afro-American musical canon, pulling together another combustible collection of lascivious Latin-edged blues exotica.

Issued with extensive biographical notes and exclusive photographs on CD and deluxe old style 2LP paste-on gatefold (with A3 size show poster inside), Jukebox Mambo Vol. 2 is likely to be as influential in setting tastes as its predecessor. As with the first volume, this edition will also be released on an ultra limited, lavishly produced 1940s style 6 x 10" album set which boasts four exclusive extra tracks and expanded notes.

Beautiful uptempo, funky edged Northern Soul with atmospheric and uplifting group vocals from the Gentlemen Four, an outfit who seem to have been prodigies of Dionne Warwick (she is credited as producer here and their next release appeared on her own Sonday label). The flip side is a superior group vox midtempo ballad.

Pure Rock and Roll history here from one of New Orleans' finest, Larry Williams. 'Slow Down' is nothing short of a total masterpiece, an eternally infectious classic which moves along like a '56 Cadillac, whilst 'Dizzy Miss Lizzy' is equally seminal, a wild and hot mess of N'awlins piano, second-line drums, great horns and a catchy, scratchy guitar riff.

Following a celebrated German tour with Gregory Porter, the release of his acclaimed first full length album "Forever Dreaming" and a string of live dates throughout Europe the soul singer and songwriter based in England known as Myles Sanko was a happy man in 2014. To celebrate the start into 2015 the two album favourites "My Inspiration" and "To My Surprise" are being released as a limited edition 7inch single and digital download.

There's a fair chance you haven't heard that voice before, because for the last few years Simon Burke has been flying small planes out of small airfields in the dusty backcountry and taking refuge from the hustle and grind of the music business to raise a young family. The time off has been fruitful. A lifetime of writing and experience is condensed into a golden set of songs and a killer new band, The Meltdown, which Simon formed in collaboration with saxophonist and arranger Lachlan McLean. BOBBY 'GRIER' ADAMS signed to Juggy Murray's Symbol Records in '59 and released four 45's including our chosen side 'What A Mess' (Symbol 911) in 1961. Despite the quality of the material - check out his self-penned début disc 'Banjo Rock' - and his vocal ability Adams was unable to break the R&B Charts. He went on to record for a number of labels including Tra-X where he scored his Northern Soul rarity 'Dr Truelove' with Betty Lou.

OTIS RUSH's fortunes couldn't be more different from Bobby Adams. He rocketed to No.6 in the Billboard R&B chart with his first single, 'I Can't Quit You Baby', and went on to establish himself as one of the premier Chicago blues-men. Here we feature his Duke rarity, 'Homework' from 1962

This has to be THE rarest and most sought after funk 45 from the Islands. With only a small handful of original copies known in the collectors world, and changing hands for four figure sums, here at last is your chance to buy a fully licensed, remastered 45 reissue of this super heavy funk rarity. Lord Sausage or Al Sinclair aka Alvin S Hodge Jr was on a small budget when he cut funky river back in 1973 on St Thomas, Virgin Isles. There was only enough money to pay the musicians who were hired in for the session and to pay for 1,000 copies to be pressed. Alvin was given permission to use the Derbs label by a Crucian calypso friend of his, aptly named 'the Mighty Derby.The record sold out on St. Thomas but a copy was sent to WLIR-FM in New York.It wasn't very long they asked for another copy to be sent because they had worn it out due to the air play it received.After that unfortunately, Alvin just dismissed going any further with promoting the single. Basically saying the record was not sold anywhere else. Later, out of the blue, someone sent him a copy of Billboard Magazine where it showed Funky River at number 3 , He was also sent a chart with the song being promoted by Tri - State Distributers at #13, only 12 slots away from the ROLLING STONES with their song "Angie". Before long he received a letter from Tri - State Distributors telling him that it would cost about $10,000 to promote. In his own words Alvin stated "I didn't have the money nor anyone to advise me, therefore, I just dropped the matter." Here is an exert from the The Virgin Isles Daily News from Sept 25, 1973. "The nationwide popularity of Al Sinclair, a ST Thomas singer has been climbing recently. Sinclair, originally known as Alvin S. Hodge, Jnr has been hitting number 12 on the Disc Jockeys Popular Picks of the week with his record, funky river. He was formerly known as Lord Sausage. Funky River, promoted by Tri-State Distributor and promotion company, hit number three 10 months ago in the Brite Star Pick Hit of the Week in Billboard magazine, passing Lynn Anderson, the Columbia label country and western singer and Jimmy Osmond, of the Osmond brothers. He was told recently that he may now be slated for the top 45 chart, which features such stars as Aretha Franklin and Marvin Gaye." The Goldband Recording Corporation of Lake Charles, Louisiana has played a key role in documenting and shaping musical traditions, tastes, and trends both regionally and internationally since 1944. In its 70-year history, Goldband has explored musical styles ranging from blues, to rockabilly, to rhythm and blues, to gospel. Claude Shermack was one of the many artists which released on Goldband. D-Fekt is primarily known as an MC from the band "Weltuntergäng". Just recently he, Grasime and L-One released the album 'Dokmatiker´s Elfen' (Tieftonkultur), where D-Fekt proved his rap skills. Beyond that, themusical all-rounder produces a part of the beats for himself and his bandmate Grasime.

After chronicling the spoils of New Orleans R&B across two acclaimed volumes, Fantastic Voyage finally brings the pre-eminent heart and soul of the city's defining sound to vinyl, with 32 standout cuts selected by Stuart Colman from the 75-track 3CD set Heavy Sugar.

If ever the ascription musical melting-pot applied to the sonic character of a city, New Orleans would stand as a prime example. The sheer diversity of the city's music during the 50s and 60s meant that the blend of the Crescent City was always flavoursome and always distinctive. Issuing forth from a store-front recording facility, the beguiling big beat reached out to a global audience through such artists as Fats Domino, Little Richard, Huey Smith and Shirley & Lee. Many lesser-known but equally worthy acts achieved the same level of sass, Bobby Marchan, Paul Gayten, Lester Robertson and The Royal Kings to name but a few, although usually with just a couple of releases to show for their troubles.

The focal point of the operation centred around a remarkable house-band that assembled day-after-day at Cosimo Matassa's funky studio in the heart of the French Quarter. Date-wise the metronome began ticking towards the end of the '40s, which was when the hip crowd first latched on to rhythm & blues. Rather than being restricted to a minority audience, the music's freewheeling ambience ended up blowing off anyone and everyones' cobwebs. New Orleans came out on top, because its talented musicians were able to put onto record the good time feel that was heard in the clubs.

With Matassa passing away in the latter half of last year, now seems as good a time as any to reflect on and celebrate his achievements, those of the artists he recorded, and that of the city he so ably and faithfully represented. As well as featuring some of the finer fruits of his work, the purview extends to a host of other glories; those which have come to define the essence of New Orleans R&B. Compiled and annotated by record producer and music historian Stuart Colman, the city's rich musical repertoire is encapsulated in 32 highly sought-after recordings.

Charlie Winston hat in seinem Leben bereits so einiges erlebt: von den musikalischen Anfängen in einer Teenieband im ostenglischen Suffolk, als Musikstudent in London (Jazzklavier), als Bassist im National Youth Reggae Ensemble, als Komponist für Film und Theater, als Interpret einer Coverversion des Spencer Davis Group-Klassikers "I'm A Man" für einen Autowerbespot, als Anzeigenmotiv für die Pariser Galeries Lafayette, als Frankreichs "Bestdressed Man Of The Year" oder auf Europatournee mit Peter Gabriel (einem seiner ersten Fans, der so begeistert war, dass er ihn auch in sein Studio eingeladen hat). Musikfans hierzulande kennen Winston spätestens seit 2009: nachdem sein Song "Like A Hobo" in Frankreich zum Nummer-Eins-Hit geworden war, stürmte die Single auch die deutschen Charts und belegte schlussendlich Platz 16. Das Album "Hobo", das ebenfalls die Spitze der französischen Charts erreicht hatte, peakte hierzulande auf Platz elf.
Nun erscheint mit "Curio City" sein 1. Album bei Sony, das mit "Lately" als Vorab-Single und einer Pfeif-Hook, die man nur schwer wieder aus dem Kopf bekommt, Großes erwarten lässt. Wir sind große Fans!

Henry Boatwright is best known as the creative mind behind Houston's No.1 soul band from the late 1960s, the Soul Brothers Inc.. Boatwright played flute, saxophone and sang on many songs as well as composing many of the releases for the band's own S.B.I. Records label. These two sides were released under his own name in 1970, backed by his fellow band members of the Soul Brothers Inc. as you can easily hear. Top quality stuff which was long overdue to get re-issued on a sweet 45rpm single.
