Mazy Fly, the second full-length by the Bay Area artist SPELLLING, explores the tension between the thrill of exploring the unknown and the terror of imminent destruction. Chrystia Cabral spent the summer of 2018 in her Berkeley studio reflecting on the thresholds of human progress and longing for a new and better tomorrow. She was struck by the way the same technologies that have given humans the ability to achieve utopian dreams of discovery have also brought the world to the precipice of dystopic global devastation. When you are a little girl and the huge present placed in front you turns out to be a piano, the possible reactions are 3. A) Terror, clearly. You start screaming in a mixture of fear and disappointment for the present. A doll, maybe two or even 50 of them would be a cheaper and more practical solution. B) You ignore it. You give it the cold shoulder, hurting and surprising the Magi with the Piano in the room. C) You get excited and

She turned it into furniture, she turned it into a safety valve for her anger and her overflowing energy. In the end this became her favourite playground. Of course, this could only be a give and take relationship. The piano bewitched the little girl, so together they ve spend years and years studying and practicing.

From Athens to Corfu, from Corfu to Helsinki, from soul to jazz and then into the magic world of electronic sound. A long journey for a young and determined to succeed girl. The result curries her name, Lou. Her debut album that describes her way to adult life while struggling to retain the excitement and naivety that describe her. Each track, one (at least) of the intense sentimental situations that she had to face during the last 2 years. Her return to Athens and her new beginning. True love, fake love, small
revolutions. Thoughts on paper converted into sounds, often while being in her room, or inside the studio of the infamous Lefteris Kalabakas.

Lou chooses to speak through a pop version of electronic music and her playful voice. In moments, her jazz background cant be hidden, nor does her need to skip the usual rules and forms, leading to really successful improvisations.

Words can hardly describe in detail all those that the need on the record will reveal. Lou will soon be in the selves of the record stores through Klik records. Be sure to keep an eye on this one

Shirley Wahls is known as one of the young pioneers of Gospel music. Singing in the church since the age of three, she began her singing career in the junior choir of the Mt Pleasant Baptist Church under the direction of Ruth Jones. Her professional career began with such legendary groups as "The Argo Singers", "The Ward Gospel Singers" and "The Dorothy Norwood Singers" before trying her hand on secular music around the mid 1960s. Between 1967 and 1976 she had released eight 45RPM singles on different labels such as King, Calla, Smash, Blue Rock, and Giant. The two songs featured on this 45 are probably her funkiest recordings and were long overdue for an official reissue. We'd like to say "Thank You" to Ms. Wahls for giving us the permission to re-release these wonderful songs. This is an essential double-sider which certainly fills any dance floor.

Mavis Staples has been a soul and gospel music legend for more than 50 years. Her work fronting the legendary Staples Singers defined the sound of politically-committed soul and influenced generations of musicians. As a solo artist in her own right, she has helped to define much of what is righteous and soulful in American music. There are few people who can claim to have been performing as long as Mavis Staples, let alone to her standards. This album captures her live at the Union Chapel in London with her band performing some of the greatest songs from her musical catalog, while celebrating her 79th birthday.

A while back Pratt & Moody hit the global soul scene with their Stylart debut 7" "Lost Lost Lost", leaving many exclaiming the words "FIRME ROLA" on its tracks. Some even mistook it for a forgotten oldie. Now this vocal/guitar duo gets together with Cold Diamond & Mink for another dose of grade A soul music.

Not breaking the spell of tautology started with the first 45, "Words Words Words" picks up the tempo from ballad territory into the beat heavy group soul category. The pulsing drum track is laced with majestic horn riffs, tremolo guitar, penny arcade organ, and over everything hover the beautiful lyrics by Pratt and his mysterious harmony singers.

Following up on their debut full length release, 79.5 drops a new and revamped version of their dance floor classic "Terrorize My Heart (Disco Dub)". A tune that leaves no room for gray and finds the ladies of 79.5 walking the line between vulnerability and forthrightness. Setting out with admonishments of love and infatuation that are quickly checked by the bluntness of women who've lived in the Big Apple for years, 'is it her or is it me, that's how it's gotta be'. Remixed and remastered with a new intro for the DJs, producer Leon Michels and engineer Jens Jungkurth managed to take an already smash of a tune to a higher level. For the B side we enlisted one of underground hip hop's brightest stars, Tall Black Guy. His 'Bounce Remix' of 'Terrorize My Heart' is just that. The Detroit producer takes the tune to a different level and turns it into a monster of a head-nodder. Loose drums and chord stabs provide backing track while vocal samples through out keep the track super hype. An easy dancefloor killer for the Hip Hop / R&B jocks.

The B side rebuilds from the ground up with fluttering pianos, wah-wah chords, warm rhodes and a dash of 90's R&B swing to remind you of the first time falling in love.

t's the utmost honor for Sonar Kollektiv to be in the position to introduce 'Ankhor', the brand new album by Liz Aku. With 'Ankhor' (a combination of the Egyptian symbol for eternal life 'Ankh' and 'anchor') Aku accomplished a masterpiece of Nu Soul, Jazz and Pop, which will make her join the upper league of the players on the scene. Dionne Warwick is one of the most classic and iconic soul singers of all time. Over her career she has recorded a string of hits and a legacy of music of outstanding quality. Move Me No Moiuntain' was first released in 1975 on Warner Brothers and has since become her most played song on the 'modern soul' scene. (I'm) Just Being Myself' comes from an earlier album (1973) produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland', a connoisseur soul track gaining support in recent years.

The second instalment of Dr Rubbefunk's 'My Life At 45' series. 'Canvas Cathedral' on the A-side is a jazzy all-instrumental affair that will have you head-nodding like nobody's business. Over uptempo hip-hop flavoured beats reminiscent of early 90s golden era hip hop, chopped and looped riffs from sax man Ben Castle give way to rolling melodies and rapid fire solos.

On the flip, unstoppable gospel powerhouse Izo FitzRoy is here, flexing her soulful tones over one of the most elastic basslines ever pressed on wax. Underpinned by signature laidback drums that groove like a classic rhythm section of yesteryear, tasteful guitars and chiming electric piano weave their way between Izo's lyrics and, bingo! That's 'A Little Blahzay' right there! Always keen to give the DJs a bonus, the good doctor even squeezes some 'Canvas Beats' onto the 7" for good measure.

Mikey Dread Was A Jamaican Singer Who Played An Important Role In The Popularization Of The Reggae During The 1970s. His Second Album, Dread At The Controls, Was Released In 1979 And Can Be Seen As A Crucial Album In The Reggae World. Some Of The Most Superb Rhythms He Recorded For This Album, With The Help Of Musicians Like Robbie Shakespeare, Ranchie Mclean, And Earl "bagga" Walker. With Dread And Some Other Fine Studio Professionals Behind The Controls In The Studio He Recorded Some Of His Best Known Songs. The Fantastic Sound And Great Atmospheres Showing The Best Side Of The Fantastic Music Mikey Dread Recorded.

Mikey Dread Began Recording In The Early 70s And Worked Together With A Lot Of Different Artists From The Reggae Scene.

The 45 of Everyday People - World full of people is well known on the modern soul and funk scene and it relatively easy to find a copy for maybe 500 pounds. What was always less well known was that there was also an LP by the same band but labels as People Pleasure. I first came across this LP in Turku, Finland in the early 2000s when at the house of DJ and Collector Felix Manell who pulled a pile of rare and interesting bits that day. I did not really appreciate the true rarity until trying to source my own copy. The next copy I saw was in Japan in 2004 but was not going anywhere. Roll on 15 years, Russell Paine, collector, DJ and super record researcher called me saying he had finally unravelled the mystery and was talking to Bill brown & Al Hall Jr. Russel sets himself the hard task of only putting out unreleased material on his own label so we also work together on LPs and Singles on Athens of the North. After we managed to clear the rights the final hurdle was finding a clean copy, not an easy task. After asking loads of deep collectors, Zaf put me onto DJ Nick the Record who very kindly lent me his minty personal copy, a huge favour considering how rare this record is, almost impossible to replace. So we mastered from the vinyl (no tapes exist) and while it still sound pretty raw it is twice as good as the O.G. Been a long time coming.

We can attest 'Despertar' is one of the most intriguing and beautiful albums to emerge from the Spanish's electronic music scene in 2017. A celebrated debut by the artist Piek, emerged from the most versatile musical scene, not in vain he creates inspired by the magic of great names such as Sigur Ros, Moderat or Bonobo.'Despertar' is the title chosen for the debut LP of this producer and dedicated music lover from Pamplona

"I love you" is arguably one of the best obscure soul ballads out there. The highly anticipated re-release of this rare and collectable 45 is another collaboration with my good friend Brian Sears, Brooklyn based collector/researcher. Hailing from Dallas, Willie Griffin is a self-taught guitarist and singer-songwriter with a very unique style, which is on full display on both sides of this record. Although "I Love You" has long been a favorite among ballad collectors, do not sleep on "Where There's Smoke, There's Fire". For this limited release we were ecstatic to uncover the original master tape from 1984, in pristine condition, yielding the perfect reproduction. We hope you enjoy this special record.

Bomb the Bass' second album Unknown Territory was a venture into the progressive dance music. 'Winter in July' was the album's single hit, peaking at number 7 in the UK charts. The midtempo hip-hop was later being dubbed as trip-hop. Music writer Simon Reynolds searched for a way to 'combine the art of sampling with the energy of rock and roll.' This combination worked out pretty well and the ten songs shows how they developed to a band who integrated different aspects from electronic music in their hip-hop sounds.

Bomb The Bass were one of the first acts to bring sample-based music and scratching to a mainstream audience.

Hague & White are Sheffield musicians Chris Hague (guitars, pianos and backing vocals) and Joel White (lead vocals, Hammond organ, Wurlitzer and Rhodes pianos - who also happens to be the cousin of the bard of Sheffield, Richard Hawley) who, between them, have worked with artists including Pulp, Moloko and Finlay Quaye. The band is completed by legendary drummer and percussionist, former Weller sticksman, Steve White. These three very talented musicians have created a self-assured, sophisticated and breathtaking debut album.

The Eleventh Hour was recorded at Sheffield's Tesla Studio, produced by Chris and David Glover (with co-production from Joel), and mastered at Abbey Road. It encompasses various styles and moods, touching on the band's love of soul, jazz, funk, psych and garage. With a sound hard to define, the eclecticism of Hague & White has been compared to anything from the sounds of Acid Jazz, to bands such as Elbow and The Last Shadow Puppets.

Just say Background Disco and you're quickly reminded of the super-groovy sound that pervaded certain sequences of 1970's Italian films, generally set in discos or clubs with a strong presence of music. Soul, disco, and funk tracks playing in the background, between a dance on the floor and a glass of J&B at the counter, that were supposed not to overcome the dialogues. Two of these jewels, signed by Alessandroni for the sexy comedy FRITTATA ALL'ITALIANA (1976, Alfonso Brescia) and previously released by our label in the collection LOST & FOUND (Four Flies Records 2017), definitely deserve the upgrade to the 12'' format. Therefore, they are proposed in a new edit designed for the dancefloor, each in a double version: the sung one (by lesser known Lorena, a member of Alessandroni's vocal band I Cantori Moderni) and the instrumental one.
