On 'EP 2 polish producer The Phantom demonstrates he's a master at creating a soulful, genre-bending, futuristic blend, whilst paying homage to rich Chicago, UK garage, and Detroit traditions, to name but a few. The Phantom affirms he's in control though, as he steps back a few paces on 'Colossus', and serves funked up, eighties evoking, electronic jams as a discursive ender to this trippy four-tracker. Former Mattafix frontman Marlon Roudette will commence his solo career with the October 24th release of his debut EP 'Riding Home' on Warner Bros. Records.

Sometime you can't keep a good remix down, and we certainly felt that with these two beastly versions by two very exciting producers of bass music.First up is an exciting producer 2nd Drop have been talkin to for over a year now, Atlanta's Distal has been making a lot of noise across the bass scene with releases on Tectonic and Alongside putting a vast array of music on his own Embassy Label. Inspired by Gerry's original, Distal has produced something truly brilliant. In stark contrast to the sublime Youandewan remix and Gerry Read's killer original, Distal grabs the key elements and transforms them into an awesome juke workout. Drawing on an arsenal of stunning original features, this hyperkinetic version is bursting with character, energy and colour.On the flip, we welcome back Sully, who first saw wax on 2nd Drop with the anthemic Give Me Up in mid 2008. As a big fan of 23hz & Numaestro's original, Sully asked to remix Zumo soon after it's release in early 2009. Failed hardrives and a quiet 2010 for the label sadly meant this remix with its shifting syncopated beat patterns and moody El-B-esque swing, was sat on. Until now. Beautifully placed to carry on the Sully sound after his critically acclaimed album on Keysound in September, this long overdue remix now gets the release it deserves. Coincidently, the artist on both of the original releases was our mysterious Portugese illustrator and graffiti activist Uiu. So in the spirit of the release we asked him to remix both the original illustrations to create a new version for this release. The featured art ensued. Slightly bonkers, but amazing!

Headman's Be Loved surfaces from Relish's recent label round up Compilation 3. The taught 808 foundation of the track is supplemented with heart swelling synth lines that unfold eventually into an upbeat electronic pop song repleat with live bass and swirling strings. Vocal duties are supplied by Rosie Blair, known to some as vocalist for Moon Unit, and one half of the duo Boy of Girl with Paul Mogg (formerly of the Psychonauts). The song steps a fine line between electro, synth pop and the electro/ acoustic dualism of Wide Boy Awake.

Since the slew of EPs that had us and more raving about the UK Funky producer in 2008, Roska has gone from strength to strength, touring America, and releasing his debut album, Roska on Rinse FM's label. Now he releases an EP by fellow upstart DJ Naughty on his Roska Kicks & Snares label. DJ Naughty is the fresh young sensation hailing from North London, England. He is very popular with in the UK music industry and it is said that he is responsible for introducing Funky House to a much wider and younger audience. In 2007 DJ Naughty became one of the must have DJs for any big event and regularly featured at Garage Nation, Climax and Garage Fever. He is also a resident for Female Skanker and spent the summer of 2007 in Ayia Napa 'Tearing down the island' as a raver so nicely put it.

There's no doubt in anyone's mind that 2011 has been an incredible year for Mr. Julio Bashmore. A string of stellar EPs on an array of prolific labels have led to this beautifully filmic piece of house music that closes an equally compelling year for Futureboogie Recordings. 'Riff Wrath' is a perfect embodiment of Bashmore's fluid modern soul and understated drive with a dusty haze of of cosmic strumming.

Producer and singer Cooly G returns after a lengthy release hiatus with a new single for Hyperdub that's a taste of her seriously good forthcoming debut album 'Playing Me', due early next year. These two tracks are especially chosen for their dancefloor power and suitability, but showcase how her singular style has developed into something truly special. The breathtaking, cosmic depth of 'Landscape' features production assistance from Simbad. In a very direct way it makes a case for Cooly's development and confidence as a singer but also her ability to mix immersive, frayed synths with catchy song writing and driving tribal drums that keep the whole track buoyant. The flip side ' It's serious', made with legendary Baltimore house producer Karizma, has a pitch black atmosphere, with dubbed, echoey voices and synths spiralling out of the mix, weaving in and out of some seriously flipped, tough funky kicks and snares and a loose kettle drum. To put it simply, there is truly no one creating music out there quite like this right now, and this single is a strong indicator of her album's testament to a unique and original talent.

Two track 12 from Manchester born, London based producer XXXY, hard on the heels of his killer split EP with Ike release on Infrasonics, fresh out the box right now. Combining an intense work-rate with a fusion of classic and new styles this is another fine 12 to add to his burgeoning discography. Brimming with energy, 'Kerpow' is a dense cocktail of detailed arrangement and mutated bass styles with the flip side slowly building to a booming climax around an infectious vocal hook.

The newest release on Rwina comes from Krampfhaft from the label's homeland of the Netherlands. With only two releases on Hamburg label Saturate to his name, Krampfhaft Rwina debut marks his highest profile release to date, and the Makin' Magic EP is appropriately, well, big. The Utrecht producer has a synth-heavy sound that's defined more by its impeccable polish and spacious echo chambers than the kind of ultra-compressed grime pyrotechnics or the filigree rhythm programming for the agile rollers proffered by Rwina recently, but the four tracks here retain the sense of colourful mischief that remains Rwina's calling card.

Hotflush Recordings presents the first new Scuba single since 2010's landmark album, Triangulation. Since that release Scuba has concentrated more squarely on deep, epic house and techno via the SCB project, most notably with Loss released earlier this year on Aus Music. That focus extends itself to the lead track of this release, Adrenalin, which must be the most unashamedly dancefloor Scuba track to date, while b-sides Never and Everywhere take the well-documented fascination with melody that pervaded previous Scuba material to a new level.

Putting the fun into Funky, Oh My Days is vibrant house number that has been setting dancefloors alive. Its irresistible, exclamatory vocals and part-Afro-part-grimey melody has been getting played out by Joy Orbison, Jackmaster, xxxy and Ramadanman - the latter has even knocked up his own re-edit. It's also received Radio 1 airplay from Rob Da Bank and Ally McCrae.

Do a quick Google search for eLan and the Internet will most likely generate results for a female singer from Latin America, a reggae vocalist from LA, an all-male rock band from Slovakia or the alleged pseudo-name used by Brainfeeder artist Tokimonsta. Few results will actually tell you that eLan is also Elan Stouffer, a mysterious but prolific beatmaker currently residing in San Diego.
