Here's a little Q & A with the man himself about the project:

1) This project has been brewing a long time right
Can you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind it and how it's translated into the 3 musical elements included: the mix cd, the original tracks and the edits

"It has been a project i have wanted to do for a long time indeed and I guess it came from my appreciation to those who have showed me love since this continuation of this DJ Nature project.
The feedback has been humbling and I really wanted it to be for that handful of people who really get what I'm doing on all aspects of my output. I also wanted it to be like a homage to a very influential time in my growth that being the 70's.
Back then music was made with soul and feeling. The box set is based around the mix really and the atmosphere of the 70's porn industry. As a teen I would watch one of these videos and what excited me more than the act was the incredible disco soundtrack in the back ground.

So the mix is like my take on a adult video form the 70's".

2) Let's talk about the artwork. You had a very specific theme in mind. What was that and how did you go about putting that into practice Tell us about the photo shoot and the other collaborations

"Well the concept is based loosely on the music of the 70's adult movie experience . The artwork was based on the Swedish Erotica movie series and the photograph I found from a talented Japanese Photographer called Shigeki Tamura. Just thought that photo in particular had the right atmosphere for the project".

3) You always collaborate with highly accomplished musicians for the solos. Can you tell us a little bit about the players on these 3 new tracks

"Yes I use pretty much the same guys on most of my material: Willie Williams (winds) and Fred McFarlane (keys) and I started using Ron Pacaud on guitar on this project. The great thing about these guys is that they are completely open, versatile and extremely experienced. I am not a player myself, I cannot play any instrument which is why I work very slow. It takes me 2 weeks to do what these guys can do in 10 minutes, but when I get an idea I have to get it down fast and try and write the keyboard part the best I can. For the most part I am happy with the outcome. Even though taking it to these guys to play on is bit worrisome, because they have to try and make sense out of my messed up attempts at playing.
It worked out though and they without question transform a decent track into something I don't mind listening to over and over. I would also like to say that these guys are the last of a certain breed of musicians that actually play with soul and feeling. It's something that is of great importance to me, because you cannot replicate it. They came from an era of great pain and suffering and through those experiences, it has shaped the way they play and what they play.
Folks who have started playing instruments in the last 30 years will not play with the same feeling because their struggles are not as profound in the general sense. So it was important for me to use musicians from this era, because they will never be replaced".

4)Â Can you give a few examples of what these musicians have on their CV's It's some pretty heavy stuff as I recall.

"Fred co-wrote Robin S - Show me Love, Fonda Rae - Over Like A Fat Rat, and Jocelyn Brown - Somebody Else's Guy, he sessioned on most of the Shep Pettibone / Madonna early stuff, Fatback Band, Crown Heights Affair, Unlimited Touch, Evelyn 'Champagne' King, Mary J Blige to name a few.
He was also in the bands Logg and D-Train.
Willie Williams performed with Art Blakey, Charles Earland, Groove Holmes, Jackie Byard as well as others".

5) How do you direct the players Is it hard as a non musician to instruct or does that make it easier

"I don't really direct them!
I usually go with bunch of songs that I feel I need a certain instrument on - say; tenor, flute, guitar, keyboard or piano and let them do their thing . Everything is pretty much done in the first take and I never leave the studio unhappy. I basically just bring a groove and let them play on it how they feel fit and re-construct and mix the parts back in my studio.
There are the odd times where I say let's do another take with a different feel, but everything is pretty much on the money the first time, that's why I work with the same guys. It's not hard to instruct because I know what I want and I'm a little hard headed when it comes to that, but luckily with the guys I use it's been incredibly easy".

6) You seem very inspired by film dialogue & spoken word both in the mix and on the 3 new tracks, how do you find these snippets Do you have certain directors that you look out for certain periods of movies actors

"I don't really have certain directors or actors. Periods are important because attitudes were different and the way people talked in the 70's in particular was different. Of course this box set is based on a certain topic which is basically sex and sexual politics. It is not the main focus but part of a complete scene, the others being musical and visual stimulation. So I take snippets that I feel are interesting opinions or just funny . When you don't use vocalists on your projects and vocal samples are harder to come by, I find this a good tool to build the atmosphere I am trying to set for the music. So I basically sift through a load of different stuff, some modern foreign movies where they have a different more balanced approach to sex to some tacky 70's stuff".

7) Tell us a bit about the vibe of the mix I like how it's so raw and live sounding yet parts are super intricate little exclusive edit styles.

"Well I wanted to present a complete sexual experience for the ears!
The foreplay of the slow tracks in the beginning to the predictable crescendo at the end. Those basslines are pure sex to me personally, I don't expect them to have the same affect on everyone only those on the same vibe.

That's why I only pressed 300 of the box set ! Ha ha ha! "

8) I read somewhere else where they asked you about sex - all that moaning and chit chat about sex is really at the forefront here. Who else do you think makes sexy modern music

Well as I said before dancing is nothing but part of the sexual experience if we are to be totally honest , so I just get a little more to the point and try and make people think a little deeper with at least some of the material I use in regards to vocal snippets.
For example the song 'Gentle Persuasion' is basically two people experimenting in a relationship where the woman is taking the upper hand. Now in some parts of the world that may be a normal thing, but in the black community the bedroom is pretty much a male dominated playground, which I find fucked up. So when I came across this interaction I was over the moon, in fact it kind of kick started me into a creative frenzy.
The thing is I don't want people to think that's the only thing on my mind, but if it's realistic and people can relate to it I'll use it.

This summer marks the inception of 'EXCURSIONS' - an extension of the Phuture Shock Musik imprint, and the first in a series of 'anything goes' musical experiments. The new sub label intends to act as an outlet for artists from the PSM camp (amongst others) , that allows the creative freedom to showcase their more leftfield works - where less emphasis is on the dance-floor and more focus on the endless possibilities of musical exploration, whilst maintaining a forward-thinking ethos.

Each release under the 'EXCURSIONS' banner will be exclusive to vinyl only, and highly limited to 300 copies - with the maiden 12" being pressed on an alluring slab of red transparent wax.

The first volume features 4 brand new cut's - one apiece courtesy of; Bristol-based producer - OPR8, fellow Bristolian beatsmith - Psyah, the ever elusive Roof Light from the outskirts of London, and Detroit's on-the-rise talent - Appian.

Irish singer James Kelly is still probably best known for his work at the helm of black metal darlings Altar of Plagues, but beneath the veneer of corpsepaint and hoarse cackling, there's a sensitive soul trapped inside, dying to get out.

As front man in Altar Of Plagues, James Kelly was lauded as being partly responsible for creating some of the most innovative music to emerge out of the metal scene in recent years. After the release of their third album, which many viewed as a creative high point, they surprised everyone and disbanded soon afterwards. This decision was partially due to Kelly feeling the band had gone as far as they could but also because of a burning desire he'd developed to make a very different kind of record leading to the creation of WIFE.

'What's Between' is a disorientating and splintered pop record that finds light and dark at constant odds with one another, industrial tones and throbbing techno beats clashing with elegiac pastoral atmospherics. Even on seemingly lighter moments the lyrics often betray their sunnier surroundings.

Produced with The Haxan Cloak, who released 'Excavation' (one of last year's most acclaimed and extreme electronic albums) and cult hero Roly Porter, 'What's Between' is a highly ambitious solo debut by an artist boldly navigating outside of their comfort zone.

'Just Pressure' contains 80's Dark Wave/EBM inspired tracks with an industrial tinge. Citing inspiration from Fad Gadget, Front 242, Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy, Sumerian Fleet deliver 9 songs of vintage dark electro. Their sound brings to mind rough 80s/90s Industrial dance with a Gothic tinge and a touch of bass guitar as the lead instrument. The band utilizes vintage analog gear like the Linn Drum, Roland TR-808, MiniMoog, Korg MS-20, and Roland Jupiter 8.

In late February Bok Bok revealed 'Melba's Call', the single featuring vocals by Fade To Mind star and BBC Sound Of 2014-listed Kelela. Now Night Slugs are pleased to announce an EP of new material from the producer and labelhead; his first full work since 2011's 'Southside' EP and its club anthem 'Silo Pass'.

Expanding on a theme first started on the 'MJT' white label in 2012, this EP sees Bok create a replicant funk, built with fragments of classics, arranged with a grime logic and weaponised with 2014 subweight.

Diamond Version's debut album pairs blistering electronic rhythms, deconstructed techno and dread static with clipped slogans borrowed from advertising and marketing, in both lyrics and track titles such as 'Science For A Better Life', 'Access To Excellence' and 'Raising The Bar'.

CI (which stands for Corporate Identity), follows on from a series of five 12 singles released through Mute, and is the culmination of nearly three years of hard work which began when Raster-Noton and Mute both curated the 2011 Short Circuit Festival of electronic music at the Roundhouse in Camden, London. 'It started with the Roundhouse,' recall Diamond Version. 'Daniel (Miller, Mute founder) has always been interested in what we do. We shared ideas and experiences, and then it was very clear that we should do something together.'

This is the collaborative project between two of the most groundbreaking, experimental and visionary creators in modern music and, although Olaf Bender and Carsten Nicolai have worked closely together since founding Raster-Noton in 1996, it wasn't until they formed Diamond Version that they started working together as a duo.

For the debut album, Diamond Version came up with an unusual list of possible vocal collaborators. 'We tried to find unpredictable vocalist collaborations - something that you would not think of in the first place, so it didn't feel streamlined. We wanted to break a certain kind of logic.'. As well as Neil Tennant of Pet Shops Boys, guest vocalists on the album include musician and poet Leslie Winer and Kyoka - a Raster-Noton recording artist.

Marvin Gaye and Tangerine Dream together in an elevator in Detroit again!

Almost 5 years after his previous album 'Horror Disco' (which was a concept album drawing connections between Italian '70s and '80s giallo and horror movies soundtracks and disco music) Bottin is back with a stunning new full length opus. Entitled 'Punica Fides' the album was made during sessions in Venice, Rome, Berlin and Ibiza.


Releasing on labels like Italians Do It better, Nang and Z records, Bottin has made a reputation for himself as a fine craftsmen who really knows his musical history and has a true passion for soundtracks. This new album, his third in a career that dates back more than a decade, was made using a ton of synthesisers, guitars, FX machines and with the help of some standout vocal collaborators.


According to the artist, 'Punica Fides is a Roman expression that means "treachery". The concept behind the album (made clear in the song titles) is manipulation, falsehood, seduction (and the will to be seduced knowing it's a lie), propaganda but also parody and satire. I think music (and especially dance music) is always also a parody. A dance track is a parody of itself and of other tracks that came before it. The album is not as soundtrack and nostalgic as Horror Disco was, I think this is a musically diverse album which ranges from synth-house, dark electronica, neo-new-wave dystopian landscapes, space disco and Italo disco. I suppose it's more of a dance record, which reflect the past 5-6 year touring the world as a DJ, as well as the will of creating my own musical bubble.'


The album opens in spiky fashion with the raw drums and serrated synths of 'Lies' coming over like a shimmering deep disco jam. Many styles are explored from there on in with 'Flow Of Persuasion' being a fast paced, melodically rich house cut that is stuff with analogue lines and oozes psychedelic charm.


Next up is the fantastic 'Poison' with Steve Strange (lead singer of Visage and co-founder of the Blitz Club which set the New Romantic template for the music and style of the 80s) which cuts a fine form with its squelchy synthesized basslines, pop leaning vocals and brightly coloured keys. Mid way through the album comes the frazzled synths and steel drum charm of 'Lust for Deception', a raucous and ravey disco cut of sheer pleasure.


'All For One' is another dazzling jam shot through with laser synths, arpeggiated lines and robotic vocals that sound like Kraftwerk on acid. Every new track seems even more fun and colourful that the last and the album as a whole leaves you feeling hugely energised, happy and very much alive. The closer is a reprise of 'Lies' with vocals from Lavinia Claws that comes straight from some intergalactic disco party it's so spangled and sugary.


Fans of Todd Terje, Pachanga Boys and all Bottin's previous work will no doubt fall madly in love with this beautifully crafted and sensuously shiny electronic album.

Man/machine magician Boris Divider unleashes his fourth album... And, as with much of Fundamentals' current output, it's highly limited. Continuing his explorations and escapades into the darkest, iciest realms of electronic music, Deflector/Atractor is perhaps his most extensive collection to date as we're treated to shimmering ambient bliss ("Particle") to dreamy, skippy, robot-charming fracturism ("Mikrowelt") via his more classic, straight up funky electro ("Deflector"). Yet another bold march into the coded unknown for both Boris and Fundamentals, this can't be slept on.

Fünf Jahre, zwei Alben und mehrere hundert Millionen Video-Views später ist das Rap-Rave-Duo bereit sein drittes Album "Donker Mag" auf die Welt loszulassen. Dabei setzen Die Antwoord ihren eingeschlagenen Weg fort und verbreiten die Zef Kultur mit ihren herausragenden Video-Projekten. Seit heute steht das Video zur ersten Single "Pitbull Terrier" im Netz, nachdem bereits vor fast einem Jahr mit "Cookie Thumper" der erste Albumtrack aus "Donker Mag" vorgestellt wurde. Während das Duo seitdem den Albumrelease vorbereitete, führte der darum herum entstandene Hype dazu, dass die am 22. Mai in Nordamerika startende Welt-Tournee in kürzester Zeit ausverkauft war.

Die makabre und wahrhaftig süchtig machende Natur ihrer Video-Kunst kann nicht oft genug herausgehoben werden. So waren es die audiovisuellen Meisterwerke, die der Band direkt von Beginn an, gleichermaßen von Fans und Presse, euphorische Aufmerksamkeit und Faszination bescherte. So erreichten die Clips zu "ZEFSIDE" und "Enter The Ninja" vom ersten Album "$O$" in kürzester Zeit schwindelerregende YouTube-Klickzahlen im zweistelligen Millionenbereich. Der Begriff "Zef" lässt sich sinngemäß mit "einfach" oder "gewöhnlich" übersetzen und hat seinen Ursprung in der Gegenkultur der unteren Mittelschicht Südafrikas. ¥O-LANDI VI$$ER beschreibt den Begriff folgendermaßen: "It's associated with people who soup their cars up and rock gold and shit. U.K.-based visual artist Quayola teams up with Hong Kong-based music label NLS records on a limited edition run of collectible vinyl records featuring musical scores from his Strata series. Music has always been a critical component in Quayola's audiovisual installations and digital film compositions, resulting in collaborations with world-renown electronic musicians like Mira Calix, Autobam, Plaid and Matthias Kispert. As a sort of artistic tribute to the role music plays in animating, activating and completing the visual works, this vinyl project sees the video works' audio scores--the most intangible element of these already ephemeral, digital works--transformed into a traditional, analog, archival format.


Inspired by the invisible geometries and topologies contained within iconic works of classical painting and architecture, the Strata films are a collision of old and new aesthetics. While sound and imagery were conceived to work in perfect harmony, the soundscapes are beautiful and evocative in their own right. Even so, they still carry traces of their visual counterparts.


"Like a landscape painter who is inspired by a specific image or place, these pieces of music carry the essence of the video works, as they were generated accordingly," notes Quayola.

Medical Records presents the debut full length release of Kline Coma Xero. A self-titled LP influenced largely by the sterile and isolated iconography of authors such as Philip K. Dick, William Gibson and JG Ballard (from whence the bands name is derived). Formed in 2012, Kline Coma Xero is a group whose work embraces elements of early minimal synth wave with distinctively thoughtful lyrics and evocative melodies. Kline Coma Xero's Tony Williams has had his roots planted in various projects in the past, spanning a realm of styles from experimental noise, tape loops and early industrial. Using a writing style that employs the use of hardware sequencers driving analog instruments rather than computers, Kline Coma Xero produces a uniquely oblique interpretation of past-meets-present in modern electronic music. Previously Kline Coma Xero debuted in 2013 with the track "Left Behind" which was included on the Circuit D'Actes 3 - La Forme Lente label compilation which is the opening track on this LP. The 2nd track "Rewind" is amazingly catchy and reminiscent of the best hybrid of analog synth pop overlaid with Front 242 style vocals. Following Hollowed - the Yorkshire based producer's debut EP for Sonic Router - and his successive collaborative EP with vocalist Segilola for the King Deluxe label, Bambooman returns with a reinvigorated arsenal of productions on the Dulcet EP. Pouring a lot of ideas into the seven original tracks he tackles numerous tempos, contorting his trademark brittle percussion and his command of bounding melodies across several different forms. "I feel like this EP is a good representation of the music I love to make - style wise," offers Bambooman of the EP. "I definitely spent a lot of time sculpting the overall sound that I've been developing over the last few years. There's a nice balance of musical feelings from the more dark minimal sound design evident in 'Birth' and 'Cast', to the classic kick/snare hip hop flex of 'Knox', through to the more up-tempo garage-esque feel of tracks like 'Dulcet' and 'Clasp'."

We're excited to help you get acquainted with World Gang, whose brand new single — 'Mechanic the Mushroom' / 'Dolphin Smiles' — drops on May 26, 2014 via Imputor. It's a long-brewing collaboration between Plastiq Phantom's Darrin Wiener and Modest Mouse's Jeremiah Green — like-minded musicians, and two of the most enduring threads in the fabric of the Pacific Northwest's music scene. World Gang evolved out of time spent on the road together, touring their respective projects — their shared reverence for ambient electronics, field recordings and EDM chasing the duo down into basements and out into nature in search of new sounds. These countless hours eventually evolved into World Gang. They've been quietly at work for a while now, cranking out a steady stream of experimental ambient improvisations and processed drum breaks via super-limited, hand packaged 8-tracks, cassettes and vinyl. With 'Mechanic the Mushroom' / 'Dolphin Smiles,' the Gang hunker down to deliver their first forays into proper song form, with unsurprisingly arresting results. Dolphin Smiles: A slow, "post-rave" burner — meaning it simultaneously is and isn't rave music. A nearly perfect cerebral dancefloor machine, 'Dolphin Smiles' is ultimately a techno song, but with a sense of musicality time-tested by years of live playing. The heady, detuned, and dissonant melodies introduced later in the track show true craft — the interplay of the dungeon-y trance lead, and the wet, kind-of-funky acid bass line recalling Cabaret Voltaire and the early Kompakt Speicher series.

Mega City Industry is Ital Tek's sophomore effort for Civil Music. Formed of four liquid hybrids exploring Footwork's accelerated
template the EP splices the rhythmic memes of Chicago with UK sci-fi sonics rooted in classic '90s AI and jungle music.
With three albums for Planet Mu to his name and an uncanny knack of always sounding completely unique Ital Tek has been evolving his dexterous dance-floor electronica, techy IDM, glitch-hop and post-dubstep forms for approaching a decade. Impressively adept at shrugging off the constraints of genre identification his output has most recently been inspired by the febrility and tension/release of Chicago Footwork rhythms.
In addition to releasing on his own Atom River imprint Myson is now a regular contributor to Civil Music and his 2013 debut for the
label 'Hyper Real' further revealed his stylistic slipperiness. Morphing the rhythmic geometry around footwork's 160BPM tempo the release's highly melodic, nimble dance-floor sophistication was equal parts cerebral and hedonistic.
'Mega City Industry' continues where he left off and for an artist that has never put a foot wrong, with a catalogue which must be the envy of the vast majority of electronic musicians, it is with some gravitas we suggest that Mega City Industry is his most engaging work to date. Blending widescreen space and chimeric panorama with iron-fist industrial rhythms and cosmic dread Myson draws subtle, sinuous electronic connections between complex rhythm structures, sleek synth contours, frozen ambience and the darkside rush of growling bass. Rendered with breathtaking sound design the production is almost unfathomable - crisp and airy whilst pneumatic and heavy. Brimming in sensation, tempered skill and emotional mastery Mega City Industry is a sophisticated and expertly reduced EP.

Two tracks of tough house from this promising young Bristol based producer. This is his second release following his debut on 'Badimup' and he is soon to have a release on the acclaimed 'Soundman Chronicles' run by DJ Parris.
The A-side 'Loveless' marries a bubbling bass line to crisp rim shots and snares; fans of both house and bass music will find something to get excited about here.
The B-side is a collaboration with Hodge who has previously released on Ytivil Donus and Punch Drunk. The track is all skippy drums and a depth charge like bass.

4 years separate the last studio album from the new Conqueror release, entitled "STEMS". Years of important changes within the formation, which returned to a less orchestral line up than in the past, concentrating on the original form of the very first band. In compliance with the novelties, we still find the points on which the band's music has always been based: the self-imposed guildelines "no ready-made rules" and "keep changing constantly the compositional approach". The new album contains eight tracks for a total of over 60 minutes of music. Each song is a glimpse thought from everyday life. The trait d'union of all the songs tells how the passage of time changes the vision of reality undergoing constant change, thus requiring a different way of dealing with situations and relating to them. To relive images in the memory, after visiting places that in the tranquility of the memory will remain forever shrouded in their beauty; to rethink the value of small gestures, which are becoming more meaningful over time and are revived with the nostalgia of those who still seeks in the present.

Corbu are an electronic, indie-rock band from Brooklyn, New York spearheaded by producer and multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Graves.

Corbu are Jonathan, Todd Hoellerman (drums, keys), Amanda Scott (synths, percussion), Julian Ferraldo (guitar, keys) and Brian Murphy (bass, keys).

Named after French architect Le Corbusier, the band has a strong creative aesthetic. Graves writes the music from visual ideas, which he translates into sound. Corbu songs are often heard partially or entirely in dreams, and are influenced by films, physical spaces and a childhood love of nature and science fiction.

And it works. Corbu's music is beautifully crafted, taking the listener on a journey from day to night, through exhilarating sunsoaked sonic landscapes to land softly on the surface of the moon.

Jonathan began singing and playing different instruments at age nine, and eventually fell in love with samplers and their ability to bend conventional sounds into something abstract and new.

The first official single from Quantic's freshly announced 'Magnetica' album is 'Duvidó' featuring Portuguese resident, Angolan born vocalist Pongolove. Premiered by The Guardian, with a stunning video filmed by B+ in Colombia, the vinyl single drops in March ahead of May's album release.
