Pavemental (Jernej Marusic) is a new name of a seasoned artist. who has been releasing music since the late 90s and is best known for his work under the experimental-dub-techno moniker Octex. Jernej is now back and taking up Pavemental as a new alias for his new beats and hip hop driven concept.

The record Streeteepy reflects the funky flow of skateboard tricks, overlaid by the spacious chords of the city, spiced up by his signature studio trickery.

Over the past 2 years Houston-based producer Rabit has developed a formidable reputation within the underground via a steady stream of acclaimed 12' releases and mixtapes. His notable credits include close ties to and collaborations with similarly buzzed about producers Mumdance and Logos, culminating most notably in a guest spot on the latter's debut LP, Cold Mission, as well as affiliations with the severely hyped Janus crew (M.E.S.H. designed the artwork for Baptizm). Singularly, he delivered a genuine hit on the British grime scene with his 'Black Dragons', featuring Riko, last fall.

Baptizm is a record of 2 halves, the ornate, gothic waltz of 'Imp' and 'Hex' grinding against the pounding mechanical violence displayed on 'Bloody Eye' and 'Straps'. On an emotional level Baptizm is about having one's life thrown completely out of order and finding solace in an imagined world. Themes of destruction and regeneration dominate throughout, as well as an ongoing obsession on the often-ugly clash between sexuality and religion. All in all, Baptizm finds Rabit continuing to feel out the parameters of his increasingly alien sonic world in a typically exciting fashion.

February sees the first release in just over three years on Keysound from Damu. Last seen on his debut album Unity' featuring Trim, he delivers four new intense sour sound constructions. This EP started as war dubs for Keysound nights,' explains Damu. I really like the competitive vibe of the scene in London and I worked on the EP across Manchester, Sheffield and Croydon from 2013-14.' Since my debut album my wiring has changed completely, it's the sonics of individual sounds that gets me hyped now and I think this EP reflects a bit more of a mathematical approach to music-making.' I've been tucked away in a few little studios trying to get back to a place where every element of my tunes sounds thrilling to me again. The title 'Holed up in the Hovel' is how I've felt while I've been working on it for ages.' I'm really excited by club music at the moment since moving to Croydon. I love dancing and there's a lot of exciting nights worth dancing at, that's been a huge inspiration to me recently. Making interesting sounds is my focus over making songs now, but considering it's all I ever go out to, it made sense to shape the noises into something like grime." Over the course of these four sour cuts - iPolice", "Whirlybird", "Holed Up In The Hovel" and "No Pain, No Gain" - it's clear Damu has driven himself towards not grime per se but something like grime' and beyond.

Jungle are based around a core musical duo of lifelong friends known simply as 'J' and 'T', who expand to a thrilling seven piece live, and make mesmeric, kaleidoscopic modern soul that's unmistakably born in the UK but has true global appeal. The album was recorded between the band's own home studio in Shepherds Bush, London and the XL Recordings studio in nearby Ladbroke Grove.

Shepard´s Scale - German DJ and producer Carlos Süß, known as Colourz, returns with a smashing tune using a sound phenomenon also known as the "sonic barber's pole". This tune is creating a massive audio illusion that just leaves the crowd wondering wherever the pitch will take them.
For sure you may have heared an older version of that tune on sets by Andy C, Netsky and a Hospital Podcast back in 2011. Colourz revamped the tune for this final release.

Featuring just two tracks, The Entropik EP sees Ekoplekz stretching his sound towards breaking point, each track extending well past the ten minute mark, slowly evolving yet with a sustained intensity, strength of purpose and emotional impact that ensures that neither outstays their welcome. "Entropy Flash" is a pile-driving epic - the relentless, heavily filtered analogue rhythms and skull-splitting drones offset by delicate, wistful melodies and a warm, extemporized bassline. It's title might make reference to a classic techno track by Beltram, but there the similarity ends. This is no homage, the sound is pure Ekoplekz, and the onus is on the listener to gauge what statement, if any, is being made here. Fans of a certain late-eighties psychedelic drone-rock group might spot another reference in the title of the flipside, "Entropy Symphony", though as with the A-side, all sense of 'Ecstasy' has long since evaporated. Beginning with a volley of pensive, densely entwined melodic loops, the track is gradually submerged in layers of searing drone-noise. Though further propelled by the introduction of a one-note bass hit, ultimately the 'symphony' disintegrates into a grey void of instability. Whether or not the listener chooses to interpret this EP in a conceptual sense, there is no doubt that this is some of the most powerful, life-affirming music to emanate from Ekoplekz' lo-fi studio hideaway to date.A:Entropy Flash B:Entropy Symphony

Over the last few years Erik Skodvin, whilst finding time to release a plethora of his own material as Svarte Greiner and Deaf Center, has developed a well-earned reputation for releasing beautifully disturbing music on his own Miasmah label. Acts such as Elegi and Jacazsek have already set the bar high, creating masterpieces of contemporary doom-laden experimental music. Now adding to the label's impeccable roster, 'L'Autopsie Phenomenale De Dieu' is the incredible debut album from Belgian artist Kreng.

Oknai's High Tide album came out in mid 2014 and in 2015 rx:tx Rec finally reveals the remixes.

Oknai passed his music to a very diverse bunch of producers coming from USA to Russia. Opening the A side is a remix by the one of the veterans of the Los Angeles beats scene Free the Robots. The first track on the B side is a remix by Pixelord, the most exposed Russian beatmaker of the last few years. Accompanying Free The Robots, on the A side there is a remix by Borka, a man known for his playful synth lines and current main tastemaker for rx:tx. The B side also features Some1Else, one of Oknai's long time fellows and great influences.

The 12" comes packed in the label's signature die-cut design with the printed inner sleeve. It includes a free download code of the EP's digital edition which also contains the title track remixed by Moz into a hip hop headnoder.

The original album got good support from various media houses: XLR8R, Do Androids Dance, Cyclic Defrost and BBC's Tom Ravenscrof and Nemone's Electric Ladyland all took notice, so we can expect a good press build-up for this upcoming remix project in the weeks before the actual release date.

Hessle Audio are excited to announce the release of the self-titled debut album by Pearson Sound, aka label co-head David Kennedy. Characteristically minimalist in approach, its nine tracks use a handful of elements to craft mesmerising, self-contained worlds, alive with motion and near-subliminal detail: from vast and inky landscapes, to electrifying rhythm tracks, where layers of percussion and bass tumble over one another like rocks in a landslide. Recorded between 2013-4, Pearson Sound documents a distinct phase of Kennedy's studio explorations. "I had a signal chain set up that I was really happy with, and I started sending my machines through the same processes" he says. Expanding upon the techniques underpinning his recent REM and Starburst 12"s, its tracks emerged swiftly through improvised jam sessions, some were captured in a minimum of takes, while others later took shape through extensive sculpting and post-processing. "A lot of it was made by feeding the the same sounds between two different pieces of equipment and they'd end up feeding back between each other and snowballing. On some tracks it's about harnessing that and taking it to the brink before it disintegrates, and some of them are about just letting it go full-blown out of control." The result is a record of striking contrasts: bold, stark and visceral, yet also subtle, harmonically complex and deceptively playful. While Pearson Sound's livewire percussive energy remains inextricably rooted in the club, this exploratory studio process has created Kennedy's most wide-ranging yet coherent body of work to date: a suite of thrillingly impulsive, expressive and open-ended music, untethered from restrictions of form.

Tonik Ensemble is the musical output of Icelander Anton Kaldal Ágústsson. Exploring the vast expanse of the electronic spectrum, his soundscapes are a mix of electronics and more organic live instruments. Together with an ever-evolving cast of talented collaborators, the output is deep, atmospheric yet soulful pseudo-techno.

Anton Kaldal Ágústsson's upcoming album 'Snapshots' is set for release on February 10th via Atomnation. Before then, Tonik Ensemble released the single 'Until We Meet Again', which came package with additional remixes by Applescal, Olaf Stuut, and fellow Icelander Snooze Infinit and found support by Xlr8r, THUMP, The Line Of Best Fit and the Bandcamp Weekly radioshow. The journey of writing the album 'Snapshots' began with exploring the colour palettes various electronics and instruments along with playing around with the human voice. The first output was the song Imprints with Icelandic vocalist Johann Kristinsson. Other vocal collaborations on the album are Shipsi from Latvian band Instrumenti, Icelander Hörður Már Bjarnason who has been part of the Tonik live set since 2012 and Icelander Ragnhildur Gisladottir, who lend her voice to legendary debut album Maxinquaye by trip hop musician Tricky.

Electro-Blues Vol.2 is a double digipack CD and download album featuring one side of vintage and another of vintage-influenced sound. Taking a fresh look at what constitutes the blues, both musically and in terms of attitude, this album is not one for the purist. Side-stepping the cliches (and taking the inevitable flak), it aims to breathe new life into a genre that once defined cool.

Side one is hot off the dance floor at our underground test-bed club nights in London and Brighton where vintage classics have been cut with hip-hop, dub step, glitch and break beat. Combining the energy and feel of the original music with the clean percussive production of the lap-top generation adds a welcome sonic frisson. Side two further compliments this by re-contextualising the idiom as a form of gritty late night jukebox entertainment and offering a reminder that the roots of this music are as much about Saturday night escapism as they are about extended guitar solos on a 12 bar progression.

Mind Brains is a new band/recording project originating from Athens, GA featuring former Olivia Tremor Control member Eric Harris (on homemade electronic drum set), alongside Emily Waldron (lead guitar and electric auto harp), Kris Deason (synths and homemade electronics) and Hannah Jones (percussion and tympani), with appearances by Heather McIntosh, Andy Gonzales and John Fernandes. It was written and recorded by the group and it features a lot of home made electronic instruments and a dog with a cough. The music runs the gamut from pretty and strange group vocal excursions to long, meandering electronic instrumental passages, at times reminiscent of the works of the Residents or Captain Beefheart.

The release of Somebody, Somewhere (ERS002) really helped shape the feel and sound of Emotional Response in its infancy. In another way it helped Timothy step away from being known as engineer extraordinaire to the likes of Andrew Weatherall and Daniel Avery and to establish him as a proper solo artist with his own, particular musical vision. Now a fully established solo artist with releases across a myriad of labels, DJ gigs across the
globe and also being co-owner of the Crimes Of The Future label, Timothy returns to Emotional Response with a mini-LP of brooding intensity. We start with the tough The Quay, where his more expansive House and Techno productions of late are glimpsed on a dubbed out dance flor, before his increasing interest in break beats is again examined on the self-explanatory Unexplained Intergalactic Radio Bursts. It is however, the deep, deep heavy synth cuts Salamoor that sees a full return to the sound Timothy was fist associated with, all late night keys and (space) echo percussion. This is seen again later on Night Ferry and the classic closing track, Is It Wrong, however before that is the title cut, Stories Of Prison. A full on bump along dark streets, this has a deathly kick that shakes bones. It's easy to throw lines like Carpenter and Goblin, arpeggios and horror lines, but it's all here in his own inimitable way. A welcome look at TFJ. The future offers more to come, but sometimes it's good to go back.
