Manu Delago combines his mastery of the Hang - a rare and enchanting instrument - with bold arrangements, irresistible melodies and multi-layered beats on his Tru Thoughts debut Silver Kobalt. The young Austrian composer/multi-instrumentalist is highly in demand and has worked with Björk, Anoushka Shankar and The Cinematic Orchestra. This ambitious LP brings his stunning solo project into the spotlight like never before, drawing influence from pop to the avant-garde and featuring guest vocals from Isa Kurz, Anil Sebastian and Rahel.

The album ranges from hypnotic melodies and pristine bassy pop, to the more calm and enchanting sounds fashioned by the Hang. Other songs on the record explore harsh electronic sounds and experimental instrumentation, showcasing an exhilarating range of styles.

Aged just 30, Manu Delago is the world's leading Hang player and possesses equally virtuosic skills as a percussionist and drummer alongside ever maturing instincts as a songwriter and producer. The accessible yet startlingly original sound of 'Silver Kobalt' draws on the experience and ideas built up by the London based Austrian native across a high-flying and diverse career to date. From overachieving teenaged rock bands, through extensive classical training, from his exploits at the cutting edge of art pop as the lynchpin of Björk's band, to a London Symphony Orchestra commission which saw him playfully subverting their expectations, this endlessly curious artist has been honing his own style rich in melody, wit and invention.

Tying together the many sonic threads is co-producer Matt Robertson (Björk, The Prodigy, The Streets, Bat For Lashes), following his work on Delago's acclaimed 2013 LP 'Bigger Than Home', the record on which he began to truly develop his current sound. This is a sound that revolves around the unique timbre of the Hang, but encompasses much more, from acoustic percussion, bassoon, piano and chimes to multi-layered beats and a variety of synths.

The New Year starts with the welcome news that The Cosmologist returns with episode three of the Cosmology series.

Trip 1 started life as a tribute to 70's radical firebrand's The Last Poets and their 1977 clarion call to arms, 'It's a Trip'.

A loose and ever changing collective, the initial line up was formed on May 19,1968 to mark Malcolm X's birthday, having all met at East Wind, a Harlem based writers work shop.
They took their name from a revolutionary South African poet Keorapetse Kgositisile who rightly prophesized that the talking would soon give way to the persuasiveness of the gun.

Continuing that thought, civil rights for African Americans was very much the beat of The Last Poets; a cause they would champion and indeed, were not afraid to back up their mighty words with direct action.

However, the project was a long and laboured affair spanning many months, and try as they might, the original track just would not to be bent into shape for a modern dancefloor.

It simply refused to yield to the editing process, to the extent that it led to Laurie (the musical genius, rhythm section & orchestra behind The Cosmologist) labelling it a 'problem child.'

The message within that original 1978 track was so powerful and despite the advances made in racial parity in the ensuing decades, inequality remains stubbornly entrenched, leaving so much of the Last Poet's 35 year old sermon ringing as loud and true today as it did when it was first unleashed. In a Broken Britain that last year saw a massive rise in food banks on the one hand, whilst the other hand spent a staggering £6 billion at the Boxing day sales, 'the man' may have moved out of plain sight, but he is still running the same game.

In the end, following the purchase of a Roland SH 1000 (fans of Imagination will instantly recognize the bass synth that gave Body Talk & Illusion those killer hooks) it then led the track somewhere altogether unexpected. Sometimes, you just have to let go of an idea and the beats take over to decide upon the final destination.

The end result draws inspiration from' it's a Trip', where the faintest snatches of the vocal ghost in and out of the mix. From there, a slow and menacing chug builds into an epic journey that takes us to the very heart of Balearica that will we are sure, find favour amongst DJ's who opt for a more eclectic playlist .

As with any problem child, perseverance, patience and a lot of love helped Trip 1 to flourish, and to finally find its true voice.

Trip 2 is different beast altogether and can be traced back to the very dawn of the Cosmic movement, via Italian originator Daniele Baldelli. Mike Oldfield's Foreign Affair was a track he picked up on its 1983 release, as it fitted his hypnotic electronic sensibilities perfectly and many DJ's have since adopted it over the years as an ethereal end of night anthem.

As with all The Cosmologist reconstructions, the track is reworked so as to grace a contemporary setting, whilst retaining the essence of the original.

The influence of Jah Shaka hangs heavy in the air, with an authentic 70's style dub designed to rumble those speaker stacks. This is the sound of a popular holiday destination out of season and it warms the soul like late winter sunshine.

A limited, hand stamped 12" on crystal clear vinyl, this next piece in the Cosmology jigsaw will be let loose in spring, for those who know where to look...

Dub To Me is a record with powerful dub roots, recorded with the collaboration of Ferdinando Masi (Casino Royale, Blue Beaters) and Cato Senatore (Africa Unite, Blue Beaters), certainly two of the best Italian reggae musicians. Ezra takes cue from the genre masters (King Tubby, Lee Scratch Perry, Mad Professor, Tappa Zukie, Prince Far I) to create an ideal soundtrack for a hypothetic interstellar voyage. Electronics mix with acoustic instruments and recording studio experimentation. Piano strings played with hands, percussions and noises mix with synthesizers and a massive use of effects. Broken rhythms and constantly evolving structures push Dub To Me away from the classic canons of the genre making it always original and brave. BIOGRAPHY
Once upon a time, the City of San Francisco gave birth to an untamed beast named Tommy Guerrero. From a very young age, the kid could skateboard up walls and down hills like no one else. He played in punk rock bands well before he could even get into the clubs legally. And he displayed an artistry in life that few folks ever even fantasize about.
It's 2014 and the guy's resume reads like a dream- Bones Brigade skate team in the 80's, movie appearances, co-founder of Real Skateboards and 40's Clothing, art director for Krooked Skateboarding, and prolific recording artist- from the 'Fat Jazzy Grooves' and 'Another Late Night' compilations, to albums for Mo'Wax, Galaxia, Function 8, Rush (Japan), Quannum and Ubiquity, T.G. has lead a full life. Then there's the collaborations with Lyrics Born, Jack Johnson, Curumin, Bing Ji Ling and Prefuse 73, remixes for Money Mark/Nigo, Poets of Rhythm and Shawn Lee. His band Jet Black Crayon has toured with Isotope 217 and Tortoise. He's scored tunes for Thomas Campbell's surf film 'Sprout', the EA video game 'skate' and had the honor of being the sole provider of music for Todd Oldham's show 'Hand Made Modern' on HGTV. His songs have been licensed for zeitgeist television shows like 'Queer as Folk', 'Sex in the City' and 'CSI Miami'. His concerts packed houses from the Fujirock Festival in Japan to Café DuNord in S.F. and The Knitting Factory in N.Y.C. His designs are found on Levi's in Japan, Vans shoes worldwide, and Sutro eyewear. Tommy's music, like his graphic design, is beguilingly simple. He sounds like a guy messing around on his front stoop, and maybe that's exactly what he is- but the result will touch you down to your toes. From Mission District punkers to Shibuya-ku hipsters- his melodies dance lightly around your head while the rhythms build under your feet. His is SOUL music, made by a street kid raised on Santana and Bill Withers (with more than a little nod to the Clash and Public Enemy in there, too).

Enigmatic artists from Eastern Europe had a ace in their sleeve when they came out with the project of Suburbs. They come up with the most mystical sound for their first EP on Archipel under "Plaeisii." The strange classical texture swirl with a very lush rhythm that at first, appear to be extremely predictable but then, as you listen carefully, you get caught up on the most capturing pattern. The main song as well as Amorf both are music for the soul and will be played in very special moment that will have people close their eyes to enjoy the shifting mood.

RED ASTAIRE (AKA FREDDIE CRUGER) drops the second volume in his "NUGGETS FOR THE NEEDY" series featuring more illicit mashups and remixes. Double album featuring 14 tracks ranging from reggae influenced downtempo and hip hop to house music. Due out end of Jan 2014. Don't miss this.

The man behind Kokolo Afrobeat Orchestra is back! Ray Lugo and his new project L.E.S Express return with two brand new singles in combination with rising soul star Roxie Ray (Dojo Cuts/Lack Of Afro/ The Underbelly). On the A side "Love Me Good" lays down some heavy tropical vibes over a fast-paced and ear-catching rhythm, while Miss Ray accompanies with a set of steamy vocals. On the flip, "If It Ain't True" delivers a lazy sunshine melody packed with afro influences and island punch, with Roxie Ray crooning over the laid-back grooves. Tongues of Fire are a riot of reeds, brass and percussion, making a 'joyful noise' for dreaming, dancing and celebration. This unique band summon up free jazz sprits, laying down powerful acoustic grooves, performing beautiful versions of English traditional music and drawing on street band sounds.The band is led by saxophonist Tim Hill, who combines his love of Ornette Coleman and improvisation with on-going research into outdoor music and street band traditions.
Tim is especially fascinated by our love of noise and how it's used in celebration. Playing in the heart of strange theatrical beasts, surrounded by fire or accompanying aerialists and giant puppets, Tongues of Fire often perform outdoors in theatre shows and landscape celebrations. The band have worked with the Galway theatre company Macnas and put on shows in a huge variety of
settings, from festivals like Salisbury Festival, Durham Brass Festival and WOMAD, events for Cirque Bijou and Oxford Story
Museum, in spaces like The Barbican and for Oxford Contemporary Music.

London based record label Goon Club Allstars are proud to present their second release; the four track Mssingno EP. With their second vinyl release of 2013 Goon Club Allstars continue to carve out their own space in club-focused music, with Mssingno's haunting debut 12' EP pitting cold, melodic synths and deftly cut vocal samples against growling basslines and off-kilter drum patterns. As well as being responsible for the huge 'Brandy Flip', a track played out across radio and clubs through 2013, last year the London-based producer scored some deserved attention producing 'Drugs Don't Work' for masked Tottenham MC Cas (formerly Castro). His icy, romantic flip of 'The Verve' tune of the same name provided the ideal backdrop for a rare glimpse into Cas' self-inflicted weaknesses and here proves to be just as effective at stirring the emotions without the aid of a vocal narrative. Whether he's toying with the slick 'n' sensual, as is unashamedly evident on the heated 808-driven opener 'Skeezers', or bittersweet quasi-R&B twisters on one of the year's more unlikely watery-eyed earworms 'XE2', Mssingno's first excursion on wax is earnestly dedicated to the feels; all of them. Case in point: 'XE3's weary-hands-in-the-air sunrise synths juxtaposed perfectly by '124th's hood-up cap-down gulliness. It may be a dangerously well-trodden arena, blending bold synths with pitch-bended vocals, but few producers in the last few years can hold a candle to Mssingno's craftsmanship and knack for progression. Simply put, Mssingno is one of those rare ones, the ones that leave a mark and his debut serves as a bold statement of intent for both himself, and the rest of the Goons. There has been much speculation about the significance of the Mayan system of timekeeping. Many researchers on the subject have verified that the Mayan long count calendar, which is only one of several advanced timekeeping tools devised by the Mayan people, comes to an end on December 21, 2012, with no real clear explanation as to what exactly that signifies. Some have speculated that it was meant to point to a cataclysmic event that would end the world as we previously knew it, while others have hypothesized it to indicate some worldwide shift in consciousness around that time. This musical offering is not meant to speculate on the meaning of this date. Instead, it serves as a tribute to one of the most astronomically, mathematically and architecturally advanced civilizations in the history of planet Earth. Each track is a tribute to one of the many Mayan spiritual sites known to date. While only four of these temples are acknowledged in this recording, many others have been rediscovered and more are yet to be found.

- Gimme A Bassline!' was the track which had its simple message written all over the forehead. 500 vinyls were manufactured, sold out in a few days and were not re-pressed since. Why that Simply because too much happened afterwards which had Torpedo Boyz hustlin' and bustlin' all over. 'Are You Talking To Me' was the second single which is still a firm favourite on the DJ decks around the world and introduced the album - Headache Music'. In the meantime - Start Being Nicer', the third single, developed into a veritable radio hit. Followed by live gigs in Germany, Switzerland and Russia as well as the show at the prestigious Fusion Festival which proved that here are more than a few DJ nerds, home producers and chief ckeckers twiddling knobs on their laptops. Torpedo Boyz are doing their thing beyond the independent mainstream and the investigations of the jazz police. Surely an entertaining little story which is waiting for the next chapter to be written.

Westov Temple is the creative endeavor of Great Circles label founder Justin Gibbon, who last appeared in 2012 on a Digitalis Limited cassette release (with RJ Valeo). Messiah Drugs is his debut release under the Westov Temple moniker and follows the Great Circles continuum of scuffed and shifty Techno, Electro and House.

Metasplice's recent emergence cast light onto Philadelphia's electronic underground, whose forays into Techno, Noise and improvisation glitter dark and hard, like seams of unrefined ore. Great Circles has released music by Metasplice side project _moonraker, and Westov Temple is label boss Justin Gibbon's project. Its foue traks are texturally akin to his labelmates, hinting at channels of creative feedback between Gibbon and his fellow city dwellers (either that or, as Metasplice's V Hold joked in an interview with The Wire, Philadelphia's harsh nature instilling a shared taste for fibrous electronic noise).

"Messiah Drums" teems with treacherously sharp edges, like tiptoeing through a grotto of razor-sharp stalagmites, while "Messiah Drugs" is spiny, springloaded electo. The surface of Geiger Memorial is etched with acidic fizz, so its core pulse registers as rhythmic pressure from the deep beneath. They're extraordinarily vibrant, evidence that club music's interface with the Noise world remains loaded with potential.
