Both of these new contributions show further evolutions of particular aspects of their unique styles.

Joint Forces is a collective of bass fiends from New Zealand. Comprised of Chewie, Mysterious D, and Soul Provider, the group came together from a shared love of the dark beats and heavy bass that once only drum and bass was able to provide.

We are proud to present our first release of 2019, Kaleidoscope vol. II, featuring two new roster additions (Dalek One and Phossa) alongside label residents Clearlight and Bisweed.

01 - Dalek One - Frequency Shock

American talent Dalek One shows why he's quickly rising in the 140 scene with this debut release on Subaltern. And what a debut it is - 'Frequency Shock' with its ecstatic bass and synth lines gets everything right in all the right places, and we are honoured to press it to wax.

02 - Clearlight - Stuck Inside

Diving into deeper realms is Subaltern resident and psychedelic wizard Clearlight. 'Stuck Inside' lures the listener into a seductive maze of towering resonating frequencies. Once this pill has been swallowed there's no easy way out - this track is sure to be stuck inside your head for a while.

03 - Phossa - Vacant

Another young talent - UK based Phossa - makes his first mark on the Subaltern roster with an intricate piece of sub science. Carried by distinctive bells and spooky vocals, the young Bristolian shows off his extraordinary production style.

04 - Bisweed - Profound

Rounding off this showcase of fresh sounds from the Subaltern universe is everyone's favourite Estonian - Bisweed! Following on from the acclaimed Subalt014 EP, this track oozes his trademark confidence in composition and sound design. Percussive fireworks, heavy subs and menacing synths combine to create an enthralling piece of music.

Of all of the personalities to emerge from the Mutek affiliated Montreal electronic music scene which exploded onto the global stage at the turn of the millennium Scott Monteith, better known to audiences worldwide as Deadbeat, has unquestionably shown himself to be its most prolific and restless spirit. Through a steady stream of critically acclaimed singles and 7 studio albums for labels such as ~Scape, Echocord, Wagon Repair and most recently his own BLKRTZ imprint, and his genre defining Radio Rothko mix, which drew comparisons to some of the greatest mix CDs of all time (Richie Hawtin's Decks, EFX & 909 : Jeff Mills's Live at the Liquid Room), Monteith has established himself as perhaps Dub Techno's greatest champion. Yet anyone intimately familiar with said catalog could rightly accuse even that lofty title of being an over simplification. In a genre dominated by stoic reverence to the creative framework laid down by Mark Ernestus and Mortiz Von Oswald's Basic Channel and related projects of the mid 90s, Monteith has consistently charted his own course over the last 13 years, tearing up and re-writing the rule book several times over. Having burrowed to the very deepest depths of echo and dread of the Jamaican variety with last year's hypnotic Drawn and Quartered album, Deadbeat once again sets sail into uncharted waters with his latest hour long salvo, humbly entitled Eight.

Albion Collective's first record release of 2019 celebrates the return of Reso to the dubstep arena, with his four track 'Focus inwards EP', featuring a version from TMSV.

Reso's title track Focus Inwards lures your senses in to a hypnotic state. A hollow, pulsing bass tears through the low end whilst sparkling drums and percussion punctuate a vivid and diverse rhythm, a soundtrack to an outer body experience. Immaculate production.

TMSV lifts the pace with his progressive tribal edit. The addition of woodwind and rolling percussion dance around the acid-step vibe in keeping in vibe with Reso's trip-out OG. Festival music.

TRUSIK Recordings rings in the new year with their latest release from Melbourne's Pugilist whose prolific output has landed him on prestigious labels like Artikal, Modern Hypnosis, Green King Cuts and now TRUSIK Recordings. Jumping between the interzone of 'bass music' and dubstep, Pugilist crafts four tracks that blend his love of dubstep, dub and techno into an EP that delivers new discoveries with repeated listens.

'Truncated Kicks' is formed from thunderous offset kicks and warehouse scanning sonar pulses, building into a monstrous construct comprised of clipped percussion that slowly morphs into a hypnotic roller as it rushes skyward. 'Reformation' slows down the tempo towards the 130bpm range for a brooding, elliptical rhythmic workout as dubby organ vamps ratchet up the tension and urge the groove forward.

'Chrysalis' flits between dubstep and techno as the track blossoms around lavender pads while digital birdsong echoes. Soon a techno-esque 4x4 kick enters the frame until barely contained bass weight leaves the dance gasping for breath. Closing out TRSK005, 'Pheromone' is another slow burner that conjures images of the early morning sunrise or neon lit alleyways. Gleefully playing with dubstep's halfstep stomp and the rolling nature of techno, the track easily dances between the two genres in a delicious synthesis of both.

With appropriately dense and psychedelic-inspired artwork from frequent graphic collaborator Leftanderson, Pugilist's Chrysalis EP marks a new chapter for TRUSIK as a fledgling label.f

With a string of resonating releases and progressively improvised live-shows, ANNANAN have been expanding and refining their stylistic range across gritty Acid psychedelia, explosive, dark-waving Electro and a raw blend of Techno and House that is as fierce as it is fragile. The duo's first album on their own imprint MACHINE JAZZ does take all of this into account - and yet it's crucially different to everything else they've put out so far. - You' is a captivating electronic pop adventure, an experimental amalgam aligning Anne Ghost's polymorphic lead vocals with Tom Aaron's vast and versatile analogue productions in unexpected ways. Dominated by reduced rhythms and a carefully crafted melodic shape, the result of this dialogic fusion are irresistible, forceful songs that draw from diverse contemporary and traditional sources: you'll even hear Trap fragments, an R&B trained voice, reminiscences of the Knife as well as cinematic synth excursions. While exhibiting a broad set of moods, claims and longings, the LP attains emotive poignancy from beginning to end through its bold openness. Annanan's first album is stripped down, immediate and full of surprises - but don't you worry, there's no lack in bang either!

Chapter five. London based Teffa returns to Cue Line Records with a large five track EP. The piece has been crafted with a clear mission that evolves throughout the tracks by a well-balanced progressive expression. The style is raw and dirty yet with a rich profoundness. The EP features a collaborative track with Berrik (US) and a remix of the title track by Gaze ill (DK), both bringing an extra touch to Teffa's brilliant Faulty Line EP. Let's go back to the beginning of 2018 when three dubstep enthusiasts from the States started their collective alias Ternion Sound. It was a no-brainer for record label DUPLOC to immediately sign the trio for their fist ever official EP, considering the label is always up for supporting and giving opportunities to new talent. Driven by their genuine passion for the genre, Ternion Sound quickly followed up DUPLOC021 with other iconic releases on a few of the leading dubstep imprints which are Chestplate and Artikal Music UK. Fast forward to January 2019, they return to DUPLOC to release four of their hottest dubstep cuts.

Seven Dials Records enlist the expertise of Hugo alongside Fiona McMartin on vocals for their fourth release - the heavyweight UKG tinged, 'Cold Fingertips'.

There's a dark UKG flavour to the 'Vocal' mix, reminiscent of the transition from UKG into early dubstep yet softened with those silky tones. Layers of sub bass and wonky synth lines intertwine, with the skippy, 2-step rhythm providing the perfect basis for Fiona's alluring voice. Label boss Seb Zito takes it more US in style, switching to a 4x4 swung beat, chopping the vocals into a mesmerising melodic element, and adding a host of spin back samples for full garage enlightenment.

Take to the flip for a dubbed-out version of the original, allowing those killer sub synths to come to the fore whilst echoing out the vocal refrains. Closing out the EP the 'Ethereal' mix ventures deep into the realms of dubstep with monstrous undertones, glitching stutters and celestial pulsations, ready-made to cause damage in the dance.

Pure Dub ´n Deepness!

Mantra Music' is the sister label of 'Deeper Vibrations', a Youtube channel devoted to promoting the deeper sounds of dubstep. Following the success of this promotional platform, the decision was made to start a new label which focused on contemporary bass music with a classical twist. So far, their debut offering has been supported by Sub.fm DJ's BunZer0 and Syte, and Author's DJ Ruckspin, who are all well known for pushing forward thinking bass music within the underground scene.Guy Chambers, aka Quantum Soul, has caused quite a stir over the past few years with his unique take on the dubstep sound. His ability to combine emotive musicality with powerful sound system presence has seen him release on many highly regarded labels including Innamind Records, Tribe 12, Mindstep Music, Tuba NYC, NoMad and the inimitable Ranking Records - to name but a few. His signature deep, rolling percussive style and heavy sub bass have been quaking dance floors since 2007, but it's his huge reworking of 'Strong Root' by UK group Lamb in 2013, that earned him the admiration of both soulful bass music listeners, and dance floor skankers alike. Since then his music has received support from the Rinse dons DJ Youngsta, J:Kenzo and Vivek as well as international support from the likes of Joe Nice, True Nature and Shiba.Katya Gabeli is a classically trained violinist, singer, producer and DJ from the Netherlands, with a keen interest in combining her musical passions wherever possible. Performing both live violin performances during DJ sets and conducting studio work with artists such as BunZer0 and Congi, has seen her work released on dubstep labels Mindstep Music and Chord Marauders, as well as leaving her mark on the tech house scene with labels Acker Records, Doppelgaenger, Budenzauber and Tretmuehle.'Emergence' comes from both Quantum Soul & Katya Gabeli, with the idea of fusing classic western music with a contemporary approach. The track was created through a lengthy exchange of ideas and the finished article is spine-tinglingly sublime. Opening up with a sparse violin solo, the track builds tension from the outset towards a chorus of strings; time is marked by thunderous percussion hits offering a suggestion of what lies ahead. The serene strings and rolling bass are the main focal points, beautifully enveloping the complex percussion and complimented by soft vocal atmospherics, which hold the listener in suspense and anticipation throughout. The breakdown is expertly engineered so as to seemingly evaporate into nothing, allowing the next round of tension/release to begin again with further compositional details continuing until the end. 'Emergence' is a totally immersive experience on headphones and demands full attention through a sound system; it is unlike any strictly 'classical' or 'dubstep' music you have ever heard before, being a perfect synergy of both art forms.'Nemawashi' is a solo effort from Quantum Soul, with the intention of bringing the percussive drama from classical music to the sound system. Opening up with a rhythmic intro built around low-end percussion and a dubwise hi-hat, the pace quickens as a steady marching kick reinforces the serious intent of the groove. The sounds of traditional Japanese instruments hang around the booming percussion giving a subtle air of mystery before the track erupts into an onslaught of brutal rhythm and bass. The half-time rhythmic skank, skilful blending of booming percussion and sub bass, combined with recurring Japanese motifs draped in echo and reverb all coalesce to ensure the energy of this track marches on powerfully without getting repetitive. 'Nemawashi' is the heavy weight, powerful Yang to the beautifully delicate Yin of 'Emergence' making for a balanced EP, which is an absolute must for any dubstep or bass music 'head', whether the intention is to play it out, or listen on headphones.

FTD's fourth release sees Gramrcy whip-up a bunch of typically UK, stripped back, club business. The most ear rattling release on the label to date.

The Modifier duo release their debut EP for High Sheen via New Zealand and Glasgow. It's 3 tracks of summer serenity and deep electronic music that is as varied as it is distinctive.

Following on from the success of HOTPLATES001, featuring Germany's OTZ, comes the boutique Portsmouth-based label's second release - from noted Bristol producer Theo Bennett, aka Sepia.

At the forefront of dubstep's current generation of producers, Sepia has received heavyweight support from the likes of Mala, Joe Nice and Truth, with a take on the genre that ranges from moody, melodic dub-hymns through to full throttled club tracks.

For Subapical03 we present you the label debut of The 15 Dead Minutes. The 15 Dead Minutes is a collaboration between David Froud (Heuristic Audio) and David Campbell (Delinquent Dialect). Here they blur the lines between electro, techno and industrial with 4 screaming cuts, cutting between hostility, brutalism and mournfulness. Artwork by Yamako King, limited to 300 copies.
