* Bristol dubstep mainstay Gemmy, a key figure in pioneering the city's electronic music identity alongside fellow 'purple trinity' producers Joker and Guido, is set to release his latest EP 'Unruly' on his World Of Wonders imprint.

* Since his acclaimed 2008 debut with 'Bk 2 The Future' on Peverelist's Punch Drunk imprint, Gemmy has released on respected labels including Pinch's Tectonic, Mike Paradinas's Planet Mu, Soul Jazz and Earwax before forming his own imprint in 2011. The new three-track EP follows on from his 'Bamboozled' EP for World Of Wonders last year and shows off Gemmy's keen talent for crafting purple wave influenced dubstep.

* 'Unruly' offers three tracks that serve as measured excursions in melody and restraint. 'Na Tek Bak Chat' is an intensely rhythmic and darkly spacious production, whilst the searing 'Sonicboom' bristles with funky, grime-inflected rhythm. The propulsive 'Stop Dat!' is a vividly expansive and minimal exploration of bass music.

* 'Unruly' brings another solid release from one of dubstep's most influential producers. World Of Wonders will release 'Unruly' on July 27th.

Founded by SHERELLE and NAINA, the highly anticipated label Hooversound has been making a lot of noise this year. Following on from their debut release from Hyroglifics and Sinistarr, they followed up in June with an another explosive EP from London’s Deft. They’re back to mark the third release on the imprint, this time with UK producer HØST delivering two moody bass driven tracks, with an official remix from Bristol legend, Om Unit.

HØST has experimented across a wide variety of genres, all laced with his uniquely dark sound. The two tracks on the EP are no doubtably the slowest BPM we’ve seen Hooversound explore, both spanning from 135-145, which shows the versatility and depth of the label whilst reflecting the broad sounds within the exciting UK bass scene.

Whilst HØST delivers the deep technical production, Hooversound brings in one of the most influential artists in electronic music, Om Unit, on the official remix of ‘Survive’. Om Unit brings the tempo up with his signature sound, flipping ‘Survive’ into a fierce 80bpm record, giving the EP an extra dose of energy.

HØST began experimenting with production around the age of 13. He went on to learn piano, trumpet and guitar which sparked his passion for electronic music production which leads to his sound today. Having had releases across Noisia’s imprints, Saturate Records and Aufect Recordings, HØST is a producer that experiments with twisted bass and melodic melancholy pads which is perfectly executed in HOO03.

Infernal Sounds welcome back the heavyweight Von D, as he delivers the gargantuan three-track Hunedoara EP, fresh off the back of his debut release on Deep Medi. Spanning way back to 004 on the label in which he made his debut on Infernal Sounds with two tracks 'Cross Of Hendaye' & 'Finis Gloriae Mundi', he drives a different style and reflection on this endeavour. The title-track 'Hunedoara' is the crowd pleaser - hitting you with the heavyweight stomping war chant, whereas both 'Akasha' and the textural 'Layers' on the B-side are melody centered and display the more playful side to the French producers repertoire. Having already received the backing from the likes of Truth, DJ Squarewave, and many other reputable artists in the scene, this is a plate that's armed for the dance or for playing at home.

Forward ever! Sustaining the consistent support and output of subculture sound system music, Austria's eminent Dubstep label Sub Audio Records lifts the curtains on its fifth 12" vinyl release. Encapsulated devilry, 'Life Without Meaning / You Can Run Much Faster' harbours the experimental sounds of Soukah - evoking heavyweight soundscapes slathered with gratuitous amounts of black magic. The enigmatic artist follows up on recent, acclaimed releases via Rarefied and Silent Motion among others - spellbinding bass music enthusiasts once again with two masterpieces cast onto wax. Raising hell alongside, none other than the rising notables and core Sub Audio artists Kodama and Ourman return to the label for a pair of super-charged remixes - proper version business indeed. A must-have for any discerning record collector, residing in subterranean soundscapes and experimental sound system music alike.

As a producer you allways get inspired by a diverse range of musical genres and other producers. This ¦rst episode of “Twerk Life Balance” is initiated by the producer duo “Twerking Class Heroes” and it features three other artists (Meister Lampe, DJ Marcelle - Another nice mess and Candie Hank) with quite diverse production techniques. On the A side we have two Hip Hop oriented electronic bangers from the Twerking Class Heroes and Meister Lampe. Both tracks are inspired by either traditional arabic music or belly dance music. The B Side opens with a deep downbeat and electro song from the Twerking Class Heroes and gets followed by a kucek oriented acid game track from Candie Hank. The ¦nal track is a super distorted Club Banger made for a DJ Set like one of DJ Marcelle and produced by herself.

For the 5th and final volume in the DUPPLATES series, the label welcomes back the Canadian heavyweight ColtCuts. Back in 2019 he made his debut through DUPLOC026 with the outstanding cuts "The Vihaan" and "The Phantom".

Considering DUPLOC claimed that release to be possibly their best one, a follow-up was destined to happen. On the A-side ColtCuts is coming through with two unique original 140 productions, while on the flip side he delivers two wild VIP masterpieces. Especially "The Vihaan VIP" has been in heavy rotation, receiving support from top tier dubstep DJs worldwide. The “DUPPLATES Vol. 5” is a more than appropriate record to shut down the DUPLOCv series.

Príncipe’s reign of fire continues with the shockingly heavy return of the Blacksea Não Maya trio after the label’s banner year of shellings from Nídia, DJ Nigga Fox, and DJ Firmeza.
In step with the more polished production advances of their label mates, Lisbon’s DJ Kolt, DJ Noronha, and DJ Perigoso - aka Blacksea Não Maya - arrive 5 years on from their previous showing with a remarkably darker, muscular take on mutated Angolan dance music. Fiercely technoid and blessed with a newfound sense of late night drama, the sound of ‘Máquina de Vénus’ is exactly how we imagine this sound in 2020; reflecting the march of the machines and cosmic events beyond anyone’s control in their slickly mechanised rhythms and infectiously brooding atmospheres.
Like the leaps and bounds in production values and intricate arrangements found on the DJ Nigga Fox and Nídia albums over the past year, Blacksea Não Maya keep pace in their own way,
working to ruggedly squashed variations of Tarraxho and Batida styles that come to recall the developments of the UK’s hardcore continuum during the ‘90s into the late ‘00s. But where that scene arguably ran out of energy a long time ago, Blacksea Não Maya boldly charge it into an uncertain future.
Kicking off with the beastly detonations and hulking slow techno of ‘Terror’, they swing hard off-the-bone in ‘Obscure’, and weave in hard trap and reggaeton nods on ’Tchiling District’ to set the tone on the A-side, before the lustrous cyber-noir licks and choral pads of ‘Horizonte’ open the B-side to the slow, dive-bombing synths and the industrial-tarraxho swag of ‘Bubadagash’, a bubbling technoid stepper named ‘Africanalidade’, and for terrific measure, the positive rave upswing of ‘Estranhos e Loucos’ with its speed garage-style vocal chops and head high jackers pressure.

Young gun and badman producer Retina returns to Foundation Audio for his debut vinyl release and quite frankly it slaps!!!!

‘Dusted’ kicks things off with a hyper 4x4 beat and an eratic bassline – this one comes flying straight out of the gates! ‘Nameless and Nothing’ a meaner, beast with its eerie atmospheres and plodding bassline takes the A2 spot. Flip the record and we have ‘No Fear I’ a subby monster best described by the word SUB. ‘If Not The Orb’ closes proceedings with a 07-08 old skool antisocial kinda vibe wrapping up the ep perfectly. Dubstep goodness from front to back and solid proof that Americans can also do the dubstep.

The American producer’s Golden Gate EP breathes fresh life into soundsystem music with his original formulations and atmospheric sounds – available now on heavyweight vinyl and digital.

Sukh Knight's DAKU imprint comes strong again with its 3rd vinyl release, this time with some of Sukh's classic tracks getting the remix treatment. The title track is Cimm's much sought after monstrous remix of 'Diesel Not Petrol', with Cimm adding his trademark crisp drums, and extra riffs and stabs to give this classic track a modern vibe. For the second instalment of Subaltern’s 2020 program, we welcome one of the scene’s best-kept secrets – Imajika. The three hard-hitting tracks take listeners on a sonic journey through tribal rhythms, punchy drums and immaculate sound design. Calling upon ancient forces, Imajika makes a powerful statement with the Stagger EP.

Stagger
Ethereal glass chimes sing in the distance underneath an airy pulse to create an eerie intro until the groove enters to break the tension. We are offered a moment to breathe before being submerged by staggering drums driven by powerfully persistent bass-waves. Playful dubby FXs, gritty wobbles and naughty drum fills keep the head nodding throughout this stomper. After offering one last breath, the second drop hits with a relentless grunt that leaves us gobsmacked and then proceeds to devastate any sub to cross its path.

Unti Pundi
Mystical textures set a ghostly tone, overlaid by the meditative ‘Unti Pundi’. We are whisked through the caverns of time - space is created through reverbs and echoes of snares and droplets. A sinister pitch-oscillating synth takes your hand and as Imajika takes you deeper down the rabbit hole. Evolving basslines and masterfully placed drum fills add new depth to this monstrous beat before a shattering second drop wreaks havoc - Imajika shows no mercy.

Inside the Sycamore Root
Foreboding voices whisper in a secret language, seemingly summoning ancient spirits in a circular tree-based ritual. A cataclysmic drop fused with a tribal rhythm and propels us deep Inside the Sycamore Root. The spirits have been awoken. A gnarly bass pulsates as calls of the wild and menacing laser-synth stabs respond to the ancestral voices. The summoning continues and takes us even deeper into the wilderness as rumbling bass and tribal percussion take over - the descent into the great unknown continues.

Walton returns to Tectonic to drop his latest EP of deadly dance floor weapons, as Tectonic sets up to celebrate being 15 years old!

With releases dropping on Illian Tape and Kaizen, Manchester’s Walton is a producer in high demand for his inimitable style the blends grime and pirate radio aesthetics with forward-thinking dance floor sensibilities..

‘Scooped’ opens the EP with mood setting pads and 128bpm drums, in preparation for a gut-wrenching bass line, bringing elements of grime, dubstep and techno altogether.

Following on next is ‘SBWYS’. The title references a vocal sample that decorates the rough 138bpm beats, “Sound boy watch ya space!”. Point made.

‘Smashed Crabs’ takes a 2003-era grime style rhythmic framework and paints over hard bass sonics and laser blips at 134bpm.

Lastly, the title track ‘Abyss’ continues the rave lazer aesthetic and tempo of Smashed Crabs, but sending things more intergalactic in trajectory, wrapping up a great EP in fine style. Definitely a bit of something for most dancefloors, crafted in the way of the Walton.

Introducing Maes (Manchester UK) the newest crew member on Navy Cut. Serves up 3 cuts of hard hitting sub bass with complex percussion and packed with energy while retaining the original Dubstep sound.

Following on from his sort of nihilistic but also maybe kind of apocalyptic Inherit The Earth LP (April 2017), Slugabed's Pandæmonium EP appears to be the result of him tumbling deeper into his own insides and nding some pretty hellish things. It has a nice front cover, painted by Parker S Jackson. Look him up on the internet!

Pandæmonium is the Capital City of Hell, according to John Milton's Epic Poem, Paradise Lost. It is all full of beasts and demons and stuff. It's AWFUL! But it's also very well designed (by an architect from Heaven, no less!) and fairly well-run. There's a nice John Martin painting of Satan, like, presiding at, um, the infernal council. It's based on Paradise Lost. This EP is about fallen Angels and stuff. Big, grand horridness. The devil in us all, or something. There's a track called Boney Horse.

There's some jazzy bits, sure. There's some noisy bits, yeah. Overall, a slightly unsettling atmosphere, okay! But it's also quite a beautiful lil record, and I'm hoping Slugabed has worked through some stuff and feels a bit better. Pandæmonium features two remixes from Sluga's sworn enemies, Kai Whiston & IGLOOGHOST respectively.

Abstrakt Sonance makes his return to Aufect for the labels's first 12" release in a decade! Enlisting the likes of Crowell and legendary Grime MC, Killa P on the title cut "New Style", together they deliver a smackdown with a skippy Grime-Dubstep hybrid banger in a mood fitting for the status quo.

Label owners Greazus step up to flip "New Style" with a remix leaning heavy on 808's and an infectiously animated piano-esque hook.

"Lay It On" turns up the vibes and dips into R&B vocals chops and loose drums that seem to be melting into each other.

Fans of deep, heavy Dubstep will love "Squad Up". This one is meant to push soundsystems - minimal dubby chords, deep dubs, rolling drums, nuff said.
