ZamZam 84 marks the return of J.Sparrow, one of the true stalwarts of UK sound system music. Producing dubstep & bass masterpieces for over 15 years, and running Navy Cut, with seminal releases on labels including Deep Medi & Tectonic, it would be difficult to overstate Ryan Wild's place in this culture. His second ZamZam carves out a new sonic world of dubwise power and beauty alongside close friend & sparring partner, the Microphone Controller called Sun of Selah.

Birds of a feather flock together. Christian Coiffure and Comic Sans Records is a long story made out of plenty questionnable jokes, third rate movies on Netflix and "Aperobass". Musically speaking, we’ve followed the same path, interested in absolutely anything, serious on the substance but never on the form. This common culture quickly gave us the willing to work together, but it’s paradoxically the first time - except two tracks on our infamous compilations - that this idea comes to fruition, ‘cause we gotta say we share a common point, that of being stricklers for details, to the point of never being satisfied.

This EP, instead of not being subjected to the rule, is perhaps the most striking example. Even though the skeleton of those tracks have been composed in barely a day, the final versions are the results of several months of torture that turned into a quest to the holy grrrraaaiil (s/o Tim the Enchanter) through which Christian aimed to reach flawlessness without ever succeeding. But old Italian wise men once said "Perfect is the enemy of good", and people coming from a country that invented pasta alla carbonara must have a relevant opinion on the subject. Therefore it’s time to rely on this latin wisdom and to release those Left Undone tracks, which without necessarily being perfect still sound as good as a record would deserve.

The idea behind those 3 tracks was to build a bridge between Mr. Coiffure’s previous releases and the UK Club Culture by portraying emblematic elements of British electronic music in more mental and industrial frames. Syncopated Techno rhythms of "Sketches", stretched vocals from "Mere Karma Patters" and the 2-Step drums on "Bassbenderz Theme" are arranged around a particular sound design which can be found in old appearances of our boy, especially on Worst Records.

As a whole, the EP is to be apprehend as an exploratory work more than the outcome of reflective period. Nevertheless, the result sounds fresh as hell, and original as f***,so it proudly takes its place in our Comic Sans Catalog.

Alpine Sound is a new production unit based out of Withington S.Manchester. Heavily inspired by the rich lineage of militant steppas producers that have come from the UK and beyond, they put their own unique take on the genre - keeping things heavy, meditative and ready for any dance. Their first eponymous single starts with Withy Step, a bouncy, sub-loaded and locally-inspired weapon designed to shake up the dancefloor. On the flip is All Bases, which gets heads down and legs gliding with the submerged atmosphere it creates. Both clock in at 140 BPM - rude DJs better get 2 kno!

-‘My intentions and goals for this record were to make it way more‘rock’ oriented than ‘techno’, almost as if it could be aband or adapted by one (albeit a rather non-traditional one), and Iwanted to incorporate some potentially awkward sounding timesignatures, but do my best to disguise them as something digestibleand not without a groove.’

After the recent collaboration with Walton for the last release, this release sees the return of the ‘Stop Flapping Your Gums’ instrumentals, with the second volume in the series.

The A side, ‘Jaws’, is a sharp and steely hard stepper with a deep brooding bass line that evokes an ominous feeling. The skeletal framework of drums prop up the sub bass, lurching inexorably forward towards an unknown terror. Produced around the same time as the album on Planet Mu you will have heard it in East Man sets on Balamii, Just Jam or Rinse FM, usually accompanied by Killa P on the mic, laying his patois infused lyrics over the top of this dread riddim.

The B side is another track that those of you familiar with East Man sets will definitely know. ‘Border Clash’ is an up tempo onslaught of distorted kick drums and sub bass coupled with clattering, wood-block percussive stabs that lend an almost primal urgency to the beat. This one is ready to mash up any dance floor… Just turn the lights out and the subs up!

Due for release on 24th January 2020, the 4 track EP covers all aspects of the 140/Dubstep scene from the garage tinges of 'A.I', the deep tribal creeper 'Spirit Dub' to the futuristic tone of 'Machine' and closing with purple vibe of 'Breakin'

London-based producer and DJ Tarquin has returned to Gobstopper Records for his second release with the seminal underground label, 'Grease'. Tarquin delves deeper into the boundary pushing sound that his productions have become synonymous with for this two track release, out on digital and 12' vinyl formats from 5th may. The release's A-side, 'Grease (Chord Mix)' is a high tempo example of the genre's more experimental side, using fragmented percussive samples set to a background of pitch-bent chord stabs and twisted melodic elements. Providing as much impact in the track's negative space as in its instrumentation, Tarquin's minimalist approach to production on 'Grease (Chord Mix)' establishes its boldness and makes it one of the most recognisable examples of deconstructed club music of the year so far. As a counter-point to the abstract starkness of 'Grease (Chord Mix)', the release's flip side 'Foxtown' utilises ominous synths and distorted bass tones to tackle the more upfront sound of first generation grime production. Tarquin adds short, sharp chops of texture to the mix from every angle, creating a sound that feels robust without ever adding too many layers. Using revered trademarks of the genre's sound such as MIDI flute melodies and menacing pads, 'Foxtown' brings to mind a more glitched-out interpretation of some of Dizzee Rascal's 'Boy In Da Corner'-era production work. Tarquin's second release on Gobstopper Records is the sound of an artist mastering his own experimental sound whilst acknowledging its foundational elements. This flexible approach to his productions places Tarquin highly in the ranks of the UK's forward thinking club elite and makes 'Grease' one of 2017's exciting and essential grime releases.
