It’s nearly been a year since Hooversound launched, and over the course of 2020, SHERELLE and NAINA delivered four hard hitting releases spanning across all different types of dance music. From hearing Hyroglifics and Sinistarr’s BS6 getting wheeled in the rave at the end of 2019, we knew the label had been sitting on a collection of gems from the UK and beyond.

Fast forward nearly 12 months, the label have proved they’re a force to be reckoned with. Having worked with the likes of Mani Festo, Deft and Om Unit, they also shined a well deserved spotlight on emerging names like HØST and Private Caller.

As we step into 2021, the Hoover duo are determined to keep the excitement up by kicking off the year with one of their favourite, most influential producers.

The first release of the year combines an iconic name in dance music, a man who needs no introduction; Paul Woolford, aka Special Request with a producer who has been turning heads within the modern jungle scene…Tim Reaper.

Back in 2019, Special Request dropped his fourth and final album of the year, ‘Zero Fucks’. 10 original tracks bursting with energy, made especially for the dance. The body of work concentrates “purely on the heavyweight original hardcore ethos of taking whatever you want from anywhere”. In true Special Request style, it followed the release of three previous albums in the same year; ‘VORTEX’, ‘Bedroom Tapes’ and ‘Offworld’.

HOO05 sees four tracks taken from ‘Zero Fucks’ being remixed into a new body of work, exclusively by Tim Reaper. Reaper has spent the last ten years or so representing the jungle scene with releases on 7th Storey, Parallax Recordings and most recently with Lobster Theremin.

He’s also been busy launching his new label ‘Future Retro’, named perfectly given his ability to produce new music that pays homage to its roots without simply re-creating it.

That's exactly what is laced throughout ‘Hooversound Presents: Special Request x Tim Reaper’, Tim perfectly executes four remixes which sound nostalgic yet forward thinking- a skill to be very excited about, making him one of the most talked about producers on the scene.

Lost City Archives is back with a massive 4 track EP from Japan’s own Stones Taro. Delivering a trifecta of quality Garage, Breaks and Jungle, certain to peak the interest of any serious underground aficionado.

In 2019, ASC decided it was time to return to the music that he grew up on. With a gentle nudge from Presha, the breakbeats were back in the mix and a slew of mid 90’s-inspired drum & bass ensued. The majority of the heavier break-oriented and edit-ladened were set aside for projects with Samurai, however, there were a grip of tracks that were more at home with the older atmospheric / intelligent styles of drum & bass from the mid 90’s. Ideasthesia is the culmination of that work. Four tracks of atmospheric drum & bass in its most unadulterated form. No drum machines at work here, just sped up breakbeats, heavy 808 bass, blissful pads, and ethereal textures. Ideasthesia is a true love letter to a golden age of music which sadly seems long forgotten.

Liquid Crystal gets an awesome set of remixes from some of the most talented people working in the old skool scene at this moment. Legendary artist Liquid takes us back to the genisis of the rave world, with his deep 1990’s style techno influenced reworking of Innersense. Meanwhile, Dj Jedi reworks and cleans up with The Power Within. Sub Fundation is a newer name to the scene, but the assured remix of Radiate marks him as a talent to be watched. And if you don’t know how good an Ant To Be remix of You Got Me will be, then you haven’t been paying attention haha!

Celebrating the founding 25 years ago of the legendary Drum & Bass / Jungle label - Suburban Base Records. We have chosen 1 key title for the first 5 years of the label to reissue a vinyl release for Record Store Day 2017 on clear vinyl. Not been available on vinyl since the 90s! From 1995, Remarc 'The King of the Amen Breaks'

* The original sister label to Ram Records from the old Ram HQ studio in Essex, Liftin Spirit Records now celebrates it’s 25th year with a special ‘RELOADED’ limited vinyl series of remastered classics, alongside rare and previously unreleased tracks since the beginning in1992.

* DATs from artists such as Andy C, Ant Miles, Shimon, Joint Venture, Interrogator and Red One have been located in the archives. Also from the Ram & Liftin HQ came tracks for the Deep Seven label in 1993 and all these rare DAT masters have been located and now re-cut by Simon, the original Ram & Liftin vinyl masterer at ‘The Exchange’. Initially, Deep Seven remasters will present on a printed white label and unreleased tracks will have a black label.
* Whilst scouring through the Ram and Liftin Spirit master DATs, we have come across one of the most requested and unreleased tracks that never made it to vinyl. Shimon’s 1995 track ‘Flava’ is now available to own after 26 years of obscurity. This Amen smasher that preceded ‘Nightflight’ also comes with a track that forms an early incarnation of what eventually morphed into ‘Recharge’. This has been aptly named ‘First Charge'. This release is anticipated to be one of the hottest and in demand slabs of wax emerging from the whole of the Liftin Spirit Reloaded series.

* Anyone who bought the first Alex Jungle EP will already know that he is perhaps the finest new "old school" artist working today. Not only does his music have the authentic 1993-1995 sound, it also has a style of its own. Alex Jungle offers a unique blend of what made the old skool so classic, with tracks that contain more excitement per tune than most people have in their entire EP. This can be seen by the fact that his first EP sold out so swiftly despite being a virtually unknown artist at the time of its release!
The Dance & Hover EP takes his style one step further, showcasing amazing piano work, a clever use of samples and offering to the hardcore world a unique talent. This is simply not to be missed.

What can I tell you about this release? Well, all tracks have been lovingly remastered from DAT, and the excellent but flawed Dynamic has been un-flawed by getting a much deserved remake. This EP contains one of the heaviset and most innovative old skool tunes - Get The Message, and has had a frankly stunning remix by Hyper On Experience. More than that, some releases sound great on vinyl, some deserve to be on vinyl, but this is one of the rare ones where vinyl seems made for it. Listening to the test presses of this EP it stuck me how simply perfect they sound. This is an EP you must have in your collection, and that you much play as it was meant to be played - on vinyl, and loud as possible!
