As Rupture’s journey across the solar system of breaks continues, tribal drums call from the darkest heart of the Earth planet. On “Baiana,” The Untouchables conjure up ancestral voices from the rich depths of the Amazon Basin, while J Robinson’s “Congoman” arrives with dripping percussion and a bassline caked in rainforest soil. Dubmonger makes his Rupture debut with the dramatic atmospherics of “Varmints,” whose warped snare riffs sit atop rumbling low-end that pours slowly like night time magma.

Rhytual is an evolution in the career of the Finnish artist Ilpo Kärkkäinen (also known as Resound) . The project, rooted in live performance, sees him transform the moody sonics he’s known from in his drum’n’bass work into something completely new. Refusing to be defined by traditional genre boundaries, Rhytual is about hypnotic soundscapes that move you deep into a dreamy world of abstraction, myth and wonder.

“Rhytual grew out of necessity,” says Ilpo. “ After more than 20 years of making electronic music I had come to a point in my life and career where I wanted to create something even more personal, important and meaningful.”

“I’m deeply intrigued by the nature of reality. Myth and science. Nature and technology. Ancient history and distant future. How we can see it’s all connected, yet so much remains a mystery.”

“Rhytual is a platform to push my craft to the next level and do something larger with it. It allows me to learn and explore, but also to focus on the essential and condense my art.”

Live performance is central to Rhytual. Ilpo performs with the same hardware setup he also uses to create the music: an analog drum machine, a synthesiser and a sampler. The live show is raw, powerful and hypnotizing. A unique moment in the river of time – like a shamanic journey, shared between everyone in the space and never again to be repeated the same.

The new Samurai Music series of 12"s - Samurai Hannya - are based on the mythical masks of a Noh drama (a form of traditional Japanese theatre). Hannya masks capture the stages of transformation of a female character as she undergoes a metamorphosis into a demon / ogre. This transformation is caused by deep sadness and anger, fuelled by intense jealousy. The mask embodies the resentment and fierce obsession of this character. Its horrible look gives us an impression that it is not just a grotesque monster, but that it also expresses the deep sadness of human beings. A cautionary tale of the power of negative emotions portrayed aptly in this infamous play. Hannya masks are also very popular with tattooists around the world along with many other characters and symbols from the fascinating Japanese mythology.

The 12”s for the Samurai Hannya series are named after these 3 stages / masks and feature all new tracks from the Samurai family of artists created specifically for this project. The series introduces a new Russian artist Roho, plus the first two collaborations from label head Presha (with Homemade Weapons & Ancestral Voices) alongside label regulars Homemade Weapons, The Untouchables, Torn, Artilect, Last Life, Antagonist, and for the first time on Samurai, Weaponry artists Torana.

* Both tracks on this release once again retain that authentic old skool sound, adding some modern twists to keep the tracks sounding very fresh and current. The A side 'Love Like This' consists of very catchy vocals, piano and stabby synth breakdowns. Side AA 'Sweet Sensation' is more of the same, featuring the classic Apache break that drives the track from start to finish. Overall a great follow up release for this newly established label.

Coventry’s second son of Drum & Bass returns to UVB-76 Music for his first release on the label since 2017’s ‘Pathos’ EP. Two years on, and four tracks strong, ‘The Last Men’EP delves into the darker caverns of modern jungle, tethering howling pad works to a sturdy hull of abrasive percussive rhythms.

Coarse high end peaks are trussed against bottom end vibrations which are fixated to the ground as three tracks are firmly rooted in the dance while a fourth track is the fallout at trip hop tempo.

The Timespan returns after a 12 month rest, teaming up with both a new artist – Mr Arthur – and a new label. Or perhaps it is an old label as The Timespan was one of the original Remix Records artists back in the early 90’s. Yet the style remains, even if some of the tracks are in the 140bpm range. Deceptively simple sounding piano anthems and rave riffs, with sly hip hop loops and rolling beats. All three tracks on this EP are made entirely with hardware, yet the sound is crystal clear and the bass rolls with weight. A perfect combination of old skool and old skool.

Through These Eyes is very proud to announce a 12" from Moscow's very own Dub/Jungle production trio Champion Sound. Neekeetone, Distant Roots and General Koondoongoo made some respectable tunes on their own, but once they combined their powers as Champion Sound, the levels were raised higher. And although dubby jungle rhythms might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Moscow, this is the style these three producers from the Russian Federation have mastered in the last few years. Playing together in a reggae band and having a strong love for all things dub definitely helped a lot, too...

No wonder their tunes already got support from Moresounds, J:Kenzo, Sun People, Mister Shifter or Mystic Pulse and got played heavily on Rinse FM.
Apparently as the title suggests, "Vershun Excurshun" leans heavily in the roots of jungle and dub. The rumbling subbass and heavy hitting breaks fit perfectly to the sampled MC shouts that will guarantee to stimulate every soundsystem in a proper style!
"Through The Roots" is the perfect B-side, who takes things to a little darker, more subtle world. But once you let yourself drown in the trancey lead melody and the depth of the rhythms, you will be immersed in a cosmos of bass. Этими глазами!

Monty has gone from strength to strength and has found his place amongst the artists he looks up to. Monty very much our first label artist and is a regular at all our events both in Europe and in North America. His work ethic and mannerism, and a very natural talent for making mature dab has been refreshing for the scene. It is with great pride we present his new EP.

Holsten makes a welcome return to the Droogs imprint following his blistering debut last year with the weighty ‘Carrier Wave’ laying down a heavy bass that sets firm foundation for punchy drum workouts. Building on his established sound Holsten gives a nod to some of Drum & Bass’ most dearly held traditions. Another feather in the hat of a rising star of the genre.

Artilect’s ‘Echos’ declares a different tribute that firmly pays homage to the late 90s. A sound resurrection that plays with the space between drums and subtle tribal persuasion. The track lands running and keeps pushing. Tense, electrifying, retro-referential while undoubtably now.

Shanghai-based female electronic music producer Laughing Ears is releasing her debut album “Tidal Effect” on Ran Music. It includes 8 tracks featuring her signature dark and cyberpunk sound, with heavy suffocating subs, intensive footwork influenced beats, twisted growling bass lines and mysterious cult-feel melodies. Laughing Ears delivers an epic of world-ending tidal effects using her extraordinary sound design technique.

Laughing Ears is a female electronic music producer who currently lives in Shanghai, China. Her music crosses genres which include Experimental, Ambient, Beats, Bass, Footwork and Noise. She treats sounds as building blocks and by layering and combining them, she builds stylized sound castles of her own. She uses vintage tapes and creates unique beats then processes them using modulated effects and granular synthesizers. She has several releases on Beijing-based label Ran Music and has been gaining recognition in the China electronic music scene ever since. She has been favored by many indie labels in China and has also been invited by NTS radio to play music for their program.

Having burst onto the scene with his stunning debut release on Influence back in July, and with Aaron Jay’s label continuing to fly the flag for this exciting producer, Easy returns and this time with partner in crime – Geeks. This Belgium duo are beginning to create a stir in the dnb scene with heavy support from Fabio, who played three of the forthcoming tracks from this ep on his Rinse FM Show in October 2018. Also getting support from LTJ Bukem and radio play/premiere of Steady from Skank and Bass plus Big Bud and Stunna were showcasing some of the tracks at this year’s Sun and Bass Festival in Sardinia. The future is looking bright for these two talented producers!

* Having become one of the UK's most exciting acts over the past few years releasing their bass-heavy brand of garage and grime across labels like Black Butter and MTA, My Nu Leng go back to their roots as they deliver their very first drum & bass EP. And as you'd expect from a duo who've been drawn in to remix the likes of Naughty Boy, Rudimental and Clean Bandit, it's big and it's very, very clever.'We are both so excited to be releasing an EP on Shogun! We've been huge fans for many years and have bought and collected most of their back catalogue on vinyl. We actually both come from a big drum and bass background and became friends through mixing and looking through each other's D&B vinyl collections.
We first worked with Friction by remixing his track 'Long Gone Memory' and more recently have been working with Ed under his new alias FineArt - we showed him some drum and bass we'd been making and he mentioned the idea of an EP on Shogun. It's been over a year since that conversation started and we are really happy to now get it out there and an honour for us to bring it on Shogun whilst working with SpectraSoul and Friction on music too. 'Lost In Thought' is the debut album on Shogun Audio by duo Pola & Bryson. With sophistication beyond their young years, this long player is an evolution, taking their music to a new level.

The cinematic soundscape 'When You Call (Intro)' sets the tone for an extremely mature and accomplished record. The first single from the project is '24/7', a blossoming blend of their trademark atmospherics and dance floor energy. With genre spanning support, it's a round the clock roller.

'Night Dawns' featuring the luminous vocals of Lauren Archer is another example of the majestic grasp Pola & Bryson have on their production. Coaxing every note out of hibernation, the track blooms into one of the most beautifully cultivated tracks of the year.

Another seamless transition from the smouldering 'Dusk (Interlude)' gives life to 'Dream Days', a textbook gem with 'Floodgates' further certifying their engineering abilities. Tunes like the garage licked 'Waves' are a graceful breath of fresh air, 'Stratford Riddim' draws on animated beats and the down tempo 'Hades' ebbs and flows with life. 'No One But You' with Brookfield provides rich phonics sat on a subtle piano foundation, glistening with the class which is abundant throughout the LP. The closing track 'Southbank (Outro)' is a moving piece which engulfs you with sonic class and is the perfect conclusion, leaving you desperate for more.

We challenge any listener not to become deeply rooted as a part of this record. Like a film score to modern life, this genuinely will leave you 'Lost In Thought'.
