Since 2014 Stones Taro has been delivering his own take on the UK sound, heavily influenced by rave, jungle, garage and breakbeat. Now the Kyoto, Japan based artist makes his Cheeky Music Group debut with four intricately laced cuts on August 20th, continuing to break the mould and recontextualize his own sonic palette.

‘Again’ opens proceedings with deep wobbling bass that finds its way from your ears and down to your toes, coupled with dub style chords and vibey vocal loops, to help keep the steppers moving to the early hours. ‘Come Over Me’ picks up where ‘Again’ left off with glossy lipped vocals and oscillating snare drums, resulting in a track perfect for warming up the dance floor.

Glistening synths sparkle just above choppy breaks and spacious bass in ‘Yakusugi’ - as it’s ethereal sensibility adds a different dynamic altogether to Stones Taro’s ever evolving sonic armour. Every sound in closing track ‘Rare’ is carefully placed and nuanced; as one tone reflects off the next in auditory delight - suited for those late-night dwellers.

Cheeky Sneakers celebrates its grand opening in style as Denham Audio bring in a few
friends for a masterclass in breakbeat-rooted club music.

Opening track Single Minded, featuring the prolific Coco Bryce is a playful take on classic
house tropes with a dark, ravey twist while the raw, stripped-out roller So Good, produced
with fellow Club Glow affiliate Mani Festo nods back to the original jungle sound.

On the flip, another Club Glow affiliate enters the fray as LMajor assists on the cascading
warehouse firecracker Down On Me while rising Japanese producer Kazuho joins to help
close proceedings on the hyperactive Love Addiction.

The first EP on Note Variation was prepared by a debut producer, but by no means a newcomer to the broken beats, Subtraxive from Moscow. He brings you closer to the savor of orthodox mid-tempo breakbeat in the British style, inspired by the subtractive synthesis of the eternal classics of Roland, such as SH-101, TB-303, TR-808, TR-909.

Alexander (the real name of Subtraxive) was inspired by the latests music species of the early 00s. Each track is a proven ascetic antidote to the hybrid jumble of genres, but at the same time organically combines with many types of garage and house music for your pleasure of killing it on the dancefloor.

"Circles" steals the show with the mid-tempo sandstorm drums and mantra-spiral bassline. The second track on the release “Unwind”, immediately teleporting you to the end of a night. Subwoofer health test tool. "With You / Without You" opens proceedings with a spiral of haunted acid bass and technoid hihat leaping in energy throughout. "My Flow" is a subtle composition of euphoric synths and well-crafted sub-bass. These nostalgic early morning breaks scattered cut stylishly close off the EP.

Veteran Ninja Tune producer Blockhead returns with his best album to date.

Warm, funky, inspired and eclectic, Blockhead does not disappoint.

Elmo Sarpaniemi (El Mono) and Roope Karhunen (Kaltstam) met at a local Helsinki radio station in 2005, and linked up soon again in 2018 at an afterparty. Fueled by their mutual passion towards only the best genres ever they squeezed out a blend of goa trance, techno, electro, breakbeats and sort of IDM. This steamy session gave birth to the track, “Positive”.

The other ER original ”2G”, sounds more like traditional goa trance, but still… it hardly is. Clocking the rhythm around 140 bpm like the opening track, it kicks in the club doors with a robust bassline, enchanting the cultured dancer with its peculiar melodies, leaving the purists absolutely cold evicting them for a cigarette. Because who gives an oink about purists, right?

This record is also fortunate enough to be blessed with two spectacular remixes. Neri J’s approach is a more dancefloor friendly, yet aetheric version of “Positive”, but don’t get it twisted. It still possesses something very psychedelic and raw. Ilev Luna wraps up the release nicely with his touch, that sounds like an interpretation of modern techno, but in fact this just could be a journey deep into your psyche. BOOM! This slaps.

A side raw & tireless drum workout gets charged up by lush pads & synth maneuvers. A bit breaksy? It’s called “Drumstixxx” for a reason. The flip is full of intruders – awrily measured bass stabs & FX-fuelled leads jumping in & out whenever they feel like it. The glue here is that clattery hihat that leads us thru the track. Keeping it moving, always.

The two tracks on this 7" might feel “old” for Ruutu, but hold a true sense of his unique imaginative style.

Apron Records has been instrumental in shaping the current landscape of contemporary electronic music coming out of the U.K. since 2014. After almost a decade of pushing their unique vision has made the Apron Records imprint one of the most in-demand labels in most independent record stores. Now more than 45 releases deep in their journey, Apron Records have teamed up with Patta Soundsystem to work on their first various artists release and to celebrate this monumental milestone, both camps have collaborated to create a clothing capsule to accompany this release. After working with the artist formerly known as Funkineven on ‘The Wave’ late last year, it was only right to showcase the diverse talents behind this movement.

Sharing a drawing board with Patta for the first time with Apron Records, together they have created a Trucker Cap and a Graphic T-Shirt that echo the racing theme of the whole project. Better Together is the slogan that runs throughout the entire collaboration, stressing how unity makes us stronger as individuals. Artwork for the record has been provided by Amsterdam based artist Jim Klok. His unique Acetone printing technique has now been immortalised on this LP, juxtaposing vintage cars with checkered racing flags to create a dynamic cover that would be right at home in a picture frame as well as a record bin.

System Olympia’s ‘Passi Mai’ is a beautiful 80’s inspired driving riddim layered with her own vocals that wouldn’t be out of place in an arcade or a sticky nightclub floor. Followed up by ‘Leven’ by Brassfoot, we get a wobbler from the NTS regular. Layed with Jamaican vocal samples and audacious arpeggiated bleeps, Leven is a soulful approach to techno tropes that have been bouncing around Brassfoot’s head. Shamos’ 737363 is a cryptic masterpiece. With dreamy pads as a backdrop for shuffling drum beats, euphoric sweeps and dynamically designed synthesis, this closes off the themes explored in the first half of the record.

Side B kicks off with J M S Khosah’s contribution to the record titled ‘Lessons’ which is a dancefloor filler, adorned with glamorous percussion, vocal samples and syncopated stabs ontop of a driving 4x4 kick pattern. Kicking things into 6th gear is a club-ready production from London's most soulful selector Shy One. Groovy basslines and a 2-step riddim make ‘Candy Floss’ an ode to the grimey and the glittery sides of London nightlife. This project champions one of the people that have been pivotal in the success of the label, Steven Julien whose track E46 is an emotional journey through his synth-laden East London studio. Bookending the project are two compositions from Compton’s-own AshTreJinkins. Showcasing his abilities to approach the project from both an ambient and a pure beat-making perspective in order to hold the whole project together.

Originally designed as a friend-to-friend, unofficial comp to be played on your car system by the parking lot of some local minimarket with the woofers set to eleven, mullet in the wind and cans of energy drinks pouring, J-ZBEL's longed-for debut LP 'Dog's Fart Is So Bad The Cat Throws Up' (we'll leave you judge as to whether we're talking Schrödinger vs Pavlov theories here) is due for imminent landing in all good record stores, as foretold by a Mayan prophecy from circa 2000 BC.
Delving in iconoclastic themes and pop culture at its most sketchy and accidentally inspiring, the enigmatic Lyon-based trio enters the melee all horsepowers roaring and laser-guns blazing - delivering twelve cuts that span the broadest sonic spectrum as they fracture their way across changing sonic reliefs, from trancey
adrenaline rushes to 303-driven dance epics, through hyperfuturistic hardcore turns and further knee-buckling, breaksy manoeuvres.
Fruit of their trademark hybrid live and studio approach, some of the album's tracks were originally and exclusively conceived for live use, whilst another part has been produced in the studio from start to finish. The Easternmost-sounding jacking tune and album highlight 'Sebulba' feat. (faux-)Bristolian from a different mother Simo Cell was actually recorded last year during the latter's residency at Trempolino, in Nantes.
Layered with a richly hued palette of elements, J-ZBEL’s debut long-player melds choice samples of video-game soundtracks (check the Metal Gear alert noise and Mortal Kombat samples on 'Bertrand Au Mont D'Or' and 'Mortel Kombat'), playful polyrhythmic touches ('Le Riddim du Bardouin'), no-nonsense Goa trance inspiration ('Tunnel Vision'), but also liquid DnB and organically-grown junglisms ('Pardon Mouloud', 'Excremangue', 'Diablo Verde Part II') and - to top it all off in the most spectacular manner - the stadium-sized gabber madness of 'The J-ZBEL Anthem', sure to leave wisps of vapour in its wake.

The two original cuts on the B side from Jheal Bashta are exploited as raw material by Aiken and Exium to create two outstanding remixes, which are a faithful and genuine reflection of a bygone era. We’re thrilled to welcome Aiken and Exium to Traces Records.

The four Spaniards ready their hydraulic hammers to shake the ground with four cuts of classic 90s techno, melancholic electro and touches of IDM.

Next to this ore body, there is a digi-only track with a suffocating atmosphere and coal-ripping bass line, called “Seismicity”.

Since breaking through with the colossal 'Anybody From London' on Hotline Recordings five years ago, Boris English AKA Borai has proved to be one of British dance music's more cultured hardcore and jungle revivalists. He's at it again here, too, filling his Vivid label debut with a quartet of sub-heavy, breakbeat-driven bangers dripping in saucer-eyed, rave-style samples. He begins with the sharp riffs, pitched down Amen breaks and booming bass of 'In My Life', before upping the tempo on bustling breaks roller 'Dead Drop'. English doffs his cap to spacey early drum & bass on loose-limbed flipside opener 'Keep Steppin', while closing cut 'C'Mon' is an insanely weighty, pitched-down hardcore bomb.

The latest from Burnski's Vivid label is a three way split, six track affair with Oldboy, Xander and Longeez each dispatching a pair of tunes in the label's trademark roughneck breakbeat style. - Oldboy kicks off proceedings with the speedy junglisms of 'Blackbird' before the chunkier, funkier and a little more traditionally paced breaks heft of 'Walrus Party'. Xander's 'If I Tell EM' and 'Get To The Point' both plays off two step rhythmic twists and menacing bass against dreamy synths and more breakbeaty flourishes, before Longeez closes proceedings with the slightly sparser 'Evermore' - super sharp hi hats and echoing rasta dialogue - and the appropriately spinback-peppered 'Wheel Up'.

Vivid does a fine line in breakbeat, techno and bass and has killer cuts from Borai and Tomashi in its discography. Now they look to Yosh who has two EPs ready for the label. This one kicks off with the rinsing old school jungle breaks of 'Bless', which is all dark energy and jerking rhythms. 'We Come In Pieces' is just as kinked with devastating drum programming, and 'Too Dread' gets a little more euphoric with its warm pads strewn over the top of the knotted bass and busy drums. Closer 'All Out' is another bit of pure dance floor bliss.

Crossing continents to Asia, the flip side features a collaboration between Hong Kong based producers Mr. Ho & Xiaolin (Klasse Wrecks). 'No Change To How I Feel' is a unique sign of the times. A deep techno track served with a heavy 4/4 kick, perpetually evolving arpeggios, quick fire hats and a haunting vocal. Leeds based producer Alfred completes the release with a sound forged from intricate drum sequencing and strong chords and melodies. Alfred is an exciting new talent that manages to connect the dots between breakbeat and electro.

Classic 2001 collection from Detroit's ADULT. 20th anniversary of the original release, 10th anniversary of the first vinyl pressing. Available for the first time in red & black marbled vinyl. "We've wanted to re-release this album for some time," says ADULT.'s Adam Lee Miller, "but we weren't ready until now. We have some new material in the pipeline, and we thought this would be a nice way to reintroduce ourselves." It is indeed a nice way for the hugely respected Detroit duo to herald their return to the world of music, especially for anyone who missed out on Resuscitation the first time around _ the album was never available digitally until the 2012 re-release and vinyl pressing on Ghostly International. The reissue thus presented the chance to own one of the more influential records of the early 2000s: either on double 12" LP or, for the first time, as a digital release. Now, in 2022, the vinyl is available for the first time in a new red and black marble colorway. When it first dropped in 2001, Resuscitation served as a de facto introduction to the duo, collecting a bunch of songs on CD that had only previously been available on hard-to-find singles and EPs. Eleven years later, it does the same thing, except this time around, we can see just how influential its creators' work has been _ and ADULT.'s music only sounds more remarkable with the benefit of hindsight. At the time, Resuscitation's combination of crisp beats, squelch-laden synths and Nicola Kuperus' detached monotone sounded like a broadcast from the future, steeped in the analog synth sounds of forebears like Kraftwerk but possessed of an ultramodern sheen all its own. The duo's visual aestheticwas just as important _ Kuperus' photography adorned all their album packaging (including this re-release), and their liveshows drew on a sense of what a reviewer once called "detached intrigue." Echoes of ADULT.'s aesthetic can be heard today in everythingfrom today's surfeit of analog synth-toting minimal wave bands to the highly stylized divas who dominate the pop charts. But really, in 2022 Resuscitation still sounds like no-one else.

Having kicked off in Galway and then quickly on to Brisbane, we travel across the pond to Durham, to pick the brains of one dance music’s freshest minds and most exciting talents, Tommy 2000, for the all-encompassing GTOWN 003 - ‘2K Musik’.

5 tracks that will travel the length and breadth of your brain; from the epic opener and lead single, ‘Whales’, to the algebraic break sequences of ‘T-2000’, Tommy’s follow up to his debut EP on DJ Haus’ Dance Trax is about as mature a sound you could expect from any artist, let alone an 18 year old just dipping his toes in the water.

‘Whales’ leads the way as an almost orchestral breakbeat builder-style track that reaches its peak gradually and really takes us for a ride as we step into the world of 2K Musik. Following on from that, is the most classically-conventional track of the lot, ‘Baff’. The four to the floor backbone lulls the listener to be sucked into what is an entirely unique club track they’ve never even come close to hearing before. That is then spun on its head entirely when Tommy’s almost bookmark sound comes into play on the title track, ‘2K Musik’. Hammering us with breaks and unapologetic bass, this marriage of old school sounds with entirely dynamic arrangement and all around ingenuity tells us exactly what 2K Musik is all about.

We swap over to the B side then, without much of a break for air, and kick off with the ever-nautically themed ‘Tuna’. At this point, it’s more than evident that Tommy 2000 is entirely worthy of his placement as an artist that’s here to stay, as if he’s pulled us underwater to listen to what the sea creatures have to say to us. Totally transforming even more modern sounding breakbeat drum patterns and bending them to his will, GTOWN003 is almost like a portal into the mind of a music genius, not just an EP you sit down and listen to; this is an immersive exhibition into the world of Tommy 2000. The final stop on the line is ‘T-2000’. You want to stop and get off, but you can’t. Everytime you think you’ve got this track figured out, you haven’t. Snares coming crashing down and attacking the breaks just as you’ve began to comprehend the synthlines and pads that eb and flow off of each other as this crescendo takes us home and back to reality, as the needle lifts on what is only the beginning for one of dance music’s brightest stars on one of its realest labels.

Alien Men is a 9 track compilation of abstract Dub & Synth experiments by a range of new artists coming out of Glasgow's Southside.

The idea for the compilation came about during a time of lengthy periods of isolation, where loneliness, insecurity and a willlingness to connect with other like-minded souls was challenging or near impossible. The artwork was subsequently created and the music followed, allowing each producer to tell their own story throughout this period.

The music featured, although hard to pin down to one notion, is Bass/Grime-esq, mutant Dancehall in parts with awkward, Ambient synth moments across this essential Club/Not Club record.

Hella Jungle is a new label from one of our artists, Mr Arthur, who has had an EP on Remix with The Timespan (Luna-C). The label is a jungle venture but with a USA twist. This first EP from Haze & Spinthrift is a fabulous slice of jungle. The opening track is on the musical side of jungle with a piano line coming in to ease the darkness. The B side is more traditional jungle, with hefty chops & heavy beats, and with the last track turning up the heavy reggae vibes. Haze is an artist that has been on a number of KF Family EP’s over the years and has never failed to amaze, whist Spinthrift is the jungle name for Mr Arthur.

The Nutty Trax Volume One EP is a record that looks at the more fun side of breakbeat hardcore whilst not descending into cheese territory. It takes its cues from the early sound of 1994, when things were a little naughty and a little annonymous. Larger than life pianos, hefty breaks, bouncy stabs and of course, the female lead vocal. This was made for midnight parties and summer afternoons, and is packed with feel good vibes!

The album, which features some incredibly exciting and varied names including neo soul up-and-comer Greentea Peng, American jazz & soul vocalist Lady Blackbird (on ‘Sunlight’) and British blues vocalist Natalie Duncan, shows off both the rich history and calibre of Goldie and James Davidson’s individually but also how they can create something together that’s so cohesive and forward thinking. The sound the duo have been able to create is also partly due to their geographical locations over the past 18 months, bouncing ideas between Davidson’s studio in Bournemouth on the south coast and Goldie’s house in Phuket, Thailand; showing two songwriters and producers at the top of their game responding to a year and a half in very different atmospheres but similar trying circumstances.
Lead single from the album ‘Dassai Menace’ (released with double A-side ‘Fathoms’) was picked up by Virgil Abloh who used it to soundtrack his Louis Vuitton SS22 fashion film ‘Amen Break’ (watch here), with Goldie walking in the accompanying catwalk show. Goldie will also be in residence throughout the month of February 2022 on BBC Radio 1 alongside the likes of world renown DJ’s Sama' Abdulhadi, Folamour, Or:la, LCY and Scratcha DVA.

Following his debut on the label in 2019 - ‘Mind Dweller’ (COUNTER013) - Frankfurt’s Stefan Alexis is back with his next chapter of four atypical, undulating club tracks.

The EP features ‘Eratosthene’, a shimmering up-tempo weapon in collaboration with label founder Inland, alongside three other diverse cuts highlighting some of the Macedonian psychotherapist’s favourite modes of play: filter-funk, acid, broken-beats, sampling.

This release comes on 180g 12’’ vinyl and digital, featuring artwork by Berlin-based Norweigan painter Tyra Tingleff.

Manchester’s Metrodome makes his debut on 1985 Music with his weird but wonderful ‘Manchester Since 1994 EP’. This 4 track collection celebrates the best of the UK rave sound and choppy beats.

“The making of this EP came from my obsession with old skool rave music!
I have been a record collector and DJ since I was 4 years old and I grew up around music, ravers and DJs.

My dad told me the only way to get me to sleep was to put on Marcus Intalex and Mark XTC's 'Da Intalex' show on Pirate Radio station Kiss 102 FM back around 1995/1996.

This EP is dedicated to 4 year old me who loved Photek, Tom & Jerry, Orbital and Aphex Twin.

The two tracks on this release ‘Take Me To Your Leader’ and ‘Bodyrock’ were made in Stu J’s living room at the Polygon in Southampton. His studio partner Don had a Roland W30 work station that he would bring over, which was an all in one sampler and sequencer. “I think this is also what The Prodigy used at the time” Stu tells me.

There was also an Akai 950, a 24 track Allen & Heath desk and a Quadraverb which Stu owned. “I think that was it, that’s all we had to make these tracks. It was such a great time that you could make music with such limited gear. It was like things were better if you had minimal gear to work with.” When the tracks were completed Stu used a company called Perpetual for all the cutting and pressing as he didn’t have any links directly, so a one stop shop was the best course of action to get his releases out there.

“It was a crazy experience. As we had limited sample time, big sections of the track are mixed in live from another record on the decks. Don had the sequencer, so he knew what he was doing on that side of things, far more than me. I was the DJ and knew how a tune should be structured. Don was an amazing engineer. He was so much more than an engineer though.

This track is a seminal tune for any raver on the South Coast of the UK as Stu would be playing Madisons, Remix, Adrenalin parties as well as Fantazia at Matchams. But this release went far beyond the south, it was a national treasure that take those who listen back to 1991, the year this release was first pressed. Now available remastered and repressed on heavyweight green vinyl.

Reissue on Burnt Orange Marbled Vinyl

Blockhead is New York producer Tony Simon, a revered talent who has put out a wealth of crucial albums. They are all getting reissue treatment now as some are almost 20 years old, but they have weathered that time well. Music By Cavelight is another of his masterful takes on broken beat and nu-jazz and this one comes on nice orange-marbled wax. It peaked at number 43 on the UK Independent Albums Chart back in 2004 when it first landed and it only came to be on Nina Tune after its original label stopped answering the artist's calls.

This repress is probably one of the most requested from the Hectic back catalogue. Mystic & Fire – True Love (Remix) is a next level hardcore track that has so much going on but never feels over busy. It has a lovely blend of dark and light that few releases balance as well as this! A true classic for the ages. Then we have Eye On Life – Pumpin’ It Up, which is a DJ’s delight. The intro is made for mixing but also it has an amazing build up to the crescendo of the piano and vocal, which take this masterpiece in a different direction than you might have expected. The vibe and the year, all captured in one track.

With 2022 comes some much needed green shoots of positivity and recovery for creative folk all around the world. For us, in spite of the constant hovering in pandemic purgatory, neither here nor there, the tides appear to be turning in our favour. The added spare time of being in a state of clopen, combined with the healing twinkle in our artists’ eyes, has meant that we’ve worked on some of our favourite projects yet, and this next one – our 7th foray into the vinyl medium – is no exception. As you’ve probably noticed, here at CV, we like to reserve physical releases for when the artist is ready to present something truly special; a magnum opus of sorts. A divine fusion of old-skool and new-school breaks, acid, trance, and techno, Beyond The Forest is exactly that. One of our oldest friends, initially releasing on the label in 2016 under his now retired alias Sire, Selected Dream Memories (real name Côme Arthur) presents his most energetic, well-executed body of work to date. Slingshotting through celestial fields and bounding over flickering, emotion-drenched melodic elements; driven by zigzagging breakbeat percussion and an explosive low end, Arthur perfectly deepens our impression of his sonic niche. As always with Arthur’s productions, whether it be on the dance floor or beyond, each four of the releases’ tracks are sure to electrify, daze, enthral, captivate, and inspire. Remixing the spine-tingling acid track Sector 4, we have Sydney’s emerging authority on breaks, bass, and more: Mincy. She elevates the track from a more reserved and rhythm-based one to a feel good closer that’ll make the floor absolutely erupt in a breakbeat frenzy.
