Original 1994 12"s !!

Biosphere is the main recording name of Geir Jenssen (born 30 May 1962), a Norwegian musician who has released a notable catalogue of ambient electronic music. He is well known for his works on ambient techno and arctic themed pieces, his use of music loops, and peculiar samples from sci-fi sources. His 1997 album Substrata was voted by the users of the Hyperreal website in 2001 as the best all-time classic ambient album.

Cirque - originally released in 2000 - was Biosphere´s first album for the UK label Touch. This new re-issue comes with a 6-track bonus album and new artwork.

Mojo (UK): Fourth full album from ambient pioneer. Coming to prominence with 1992's Microgravity - which along with the first couple of Aphex/Polygon Window CDs, defined the genre ambient - Geir Jenssen as Biosphere has made three of the '90s' best albums, culminating with last year's near beatless Substrata. The idea - as it always was thanks to Eno's On Land - is music as environment (reflecting, creating): working from his base in Tromso, Arctic Norway, Jenssen offers a polar, Apollonian exploration of the human psyche. Cirque is a perfectly constructed 47-minute sequence: cold clarity up against real depth of field, synth cycles dissolving into sudden moments of sonic revelation that sound like a waking dream - try the first 20 seconds of Black Lamb and Grey Falcon. Inspired by the story of a young American, Chris McCandless, who walked alone into the Alaskan wilderness and perished, Cirque balances the tightrope between warmth and unease, resolving into a moon melody that leaves you a peace. All My Circles Run is the third full-length release by Montreal-based electro-acoustic composer Sarah Davachi and her second outing for Students of Decay. In a move which may surprise followers of her previous output, the five compositions on this record eschew synthesizer entirely, each focusing on a different instrument, including strings, voice, organ and piano. What remains consistent, however, is her striking attention to detail and a commitment to tonal possibilities that characterize all of her work.

The sinewy For Strings' opens the album, with keening overtones stretching out in all directions to form a massive, slow-moving, radiant sound. For Voice' charts an even more celestial course, as wordless vocals ebb and flow to awe-inspiring effect. The stunning, melancholic For Piano' closes the record and is a high watermark in Davachi's oeuvre, with plaintive piano figures nestled atop a shimmering string drone to create a rich, reverent atmosphere. All My Circles Run is a step forward from an exciting artist whose compositional and aesthetic tendencies steer her steadfastly toward both the subjunctive and the sublime.

After the success of Miranda Lee Richard's latest album Echoes Of The Dreamtime, Invisible Hands Music are proud to release a limited 7' single which brings together a new electric version of Colours So Fine, a favourite off the album, and a completely new song, Lucid I Would Dream. This is to coincide with her forthcoming UK tour, which includes dates opening for Ren and Romeo of the Magic Numbers.

Zuerst erschienen auf General Production Recordings zwischen 1993 und 1996, lotete Slaters The 7th Plain die sich stärker ausbreitenden Facetten von Ambientmusik aus und trieb sie gleichzeitig an die Genregrenzen, indem sich The 7th Plain nicht auf beatbefreite Synthflächen beschränkte, sondern treibende Progressionen, nuancierte Rhythmen und raffinierte Melodien mit einbezog. The 7th Plains außerweltliche Musik entzog sich somit der genauen musikalischen Einordnung, nachzuhören auf den beiden Alben The 4 Cornered Room und My Yellow Wise Rug (beide GPR, 1994) - emotionale, gespenstische und eskapistische Musik, bei Erstveröffentlichung vorwärtsdenkende Alben, die in Rückbetrachtung die Zeit besiegt haben.

Ursprünglich aufgenommen in Slaters Spacestation Ø, nun für A-TON komplett geremastert, zeigt Chronicles | die futuristische Ästhetik und musikalische Agenda der Neunziger in einem zeitgenössischen Kontext, ohne Nostalgie aber mit dem Wissen um die Zeitlosigkeit dieser Musik. Mit sieben originären Stücken und einem unveröffentlichten Ken Ishii-Remix klingt The 7th Plain so beseelt und relevant wie eh und je.

Während "Boundaries" (von My Yellow Wise Rug), "Grace" und "Surface Bound" (beide von The 4 Cornered Room) Slater-Aficionados bekannt sein dürften, sind "The Super 8", "T Funk States", "Slip 7 Sideways" und "Chords Are Dirty" bislang ebenso unveröffentlicht wie der zuvor erwähnte Remix von Ken Ishiis "Extra".

Per Martinsen aka Mental Overdrive and Plugged", two elementary techno Classics from Norway. Per Martinsen was born in the Arctic town of Tromsø in Northern Norway in 1966, and spent his teens listening to imported records and tapes filled with electronic (and some non-electronic) music stemming mainly from the UK and Germany. He first entered the world of music-making by playing drums in local post-punk outfits, but moved on to electronic instruments when he bought his own Roland TR-808 drum machine in 1983. Setting out on a mission to connect to the sources of his inspiration, he ended up in London in 1987, where he spent his days squatting in Hackney and working as an assistant programmer in This Heat's seminal Cold Storage studio in Brixton. Hit by the wave of Chicago house and Detroit techno invading London at the time, he soon found himself experimenting with making beats inspired by these new sounds merged with the 80's sounds he was accustomed to from his pre-London era, like industrial music and EBM. A cassette tape with some of these beats was given to a close friend, who at the time was signed to Belgium's Crammed Discs, and this earned him an invitation to fly over for a series of studio sessions in Brussels courtesy of the label. The sessions led to several 12 singles being released by Crammed in 1988. Most notable of these was his collaboration with Minimal Compact's Samy Birnbach (aka DJ Morpheus), with the release of the single Hallucination Generation' under the moniker The Gruesome Twosome' in 1989. The single was licensed by Crammed to Nettwerk Records in the US

Erda (1972)

This piece illustrates my early research carried out in a professional composition studio. After studying every available tools and creating variably hybrid connections between them, I chose to compose several short sequences, each being the expression of a research based on a sonic manipulation and exploring a well defined sound hue. Besides, my background as a percussionist and a jazzman encouraged me to conduct a rhythmical study in each of these sequences.

'Erda' consists of seven movements:

1. Variations: a lengthy framework interwoven with granular variations.

2. Cellules (Cells): this movement comprises a group of melodico-rhythmic cells shifting from the left channel to the right channel. The slightly raucous and acid texture of the 'square' sounds, that can be heard in several movements, is a reminder of saxophone and muted brass sonorities, as used in contemporary jazz.

3. Grillons: (crickets) an evocation of the realm of insects.

4. 54 oiseaux (birds): stereotypical bird songs produced by the generators of the studio 54.

5. Erda: a tribute to the Goddess of Wisdom and the Earth in Wagner's Das Rheingold and Siegfried.

6. Genorgue: this sequence is somehow mirroring Cellules. The sound has however lost some of its aggressiveness and is getting closer to that of an organ or an electric piano.

7. Klook: rhythmical drumming figures such as those Kenny Clarke (aka Klook) used to teach me.

8. In memoriam J.C.: a tribute to John Coltrane.

Suite N (1982)

Commissioned by the Direction de la Musique and the Ina GRM.

Composed in the Ina GRM's numerical composition studio with the assistance of Benedict Maillard and Yann Geslin.

In a composition studio, musical research is never very far removed from madness. The first step is the initial work on the sound picked up by the microphone and the varieties of delirium that result from it : exaggerated amplification, inversion, transformation. Synthesizers and their crazy possibilities com next. The third step is the computer, one of the purest products of logic. All the same, the musician approaches the robot warily : he prefers his own models to formal and mathematical models, and he uses the computer like an instrument. Anyway that seems to be the choice of the computer group in charge of studio 123 at the G R M , and we may congratulate ourselves that this is the case. Thanks to the MUSIC V program. GRM's PDP 11 computer can synthesize sounds from any instrument. Mainly it can transform and treat absolutely any sound fed into its memory : sequence accumulation, contraction, drawing out of sequence, acceleration, slowing down, reversing, spatialization, filtering, speed variation, etc...., all this on a much broader scale than comparable traditional means. My intention in 'Suite N' was, on the one hand, to use solely sounds produced by the computer either by direct synthesis (MUSIC V) or by sound treatment, and, on the other hand, to work with a definite form. A, B and C correspond to the exposition of the themes. A' B' and C', to their variations. Each of the nine families of sounds represents a different instrument. Once the musical lines are established, they are re-used, together with their variations, in the development of the piece.

Jean Schwarz is an idiosyncratic figure in the world of electroacoustic music. With a dual background in jazz and ethnomusicology, he has crossed times and genres with an unwavering singularity, infusing improvisation, ballets or cinema with the art of acousmatics. 'Erda' or 'Suite N', each in their own way, demonstrate Schwarz's unique propensity for exploring sound, its cross-fertilisations and its evocative power.

After a six year gap, Miranda returns with her third full-length studio album, Echoes Of The Dreamtime. Eight songs of 'Psychedelic Chamber Folk Rock' finding the diamonds in the dust of everyday life and the relationships within.
Echoes Of The Dreamtime follows on from the critically acclaimed success of The Herethereafter (Virgin Records, 2001) and Light Of X (Nettwerk Records, 2009), which KCRW and the BBC supported, along with two tours of the UK. New single 7th Ray is tipped for the same heights as The Long Goodbye which reached the Top 5 in Japan in 2001.

Echoes Of The Dreamtime is produced by Rick Parker, best known for his work with the Dandy Warhols (including Bohemian Like Me) and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

She is the daughter of Ted and Teresa Richards, stars of the underground comics revolution and the goddaughter of legendary cartoonist Robert Crumb, who is considered by many to be the single best cartoonist America has ever produced (Observer Oct 2015) and whose works include Fritz the Cat, the Keep On Truckin guy and Mr Natural.

In the beginning Kirk Hammett of Metallica taught Richards a few songs on guitar and then she went on to work with Joe Firstman, Suzanne Vega, Tim Burgess, Tricky, Good Listeners and the Jesus and Mary Chain. Miranda was a member of the Brian Jonestown Massacre and she sang the hit Anemone.

Miranda's film credits include appearing in the Ondi Timoner film DIG! (2004), writing the song Beautiful Day for the indie film and soundtrack to Adam (2009). She also wrote a song called Hero Of The Silent War for the ground breaking immersive feature film, The Hornet's Nest (2014), featuring Wynonna Judd, Stevie Nicks, and Kid Rock as fellow soundtrack contributors.

Heute gilt der 1960 in Berlin geborene Bernd Kistenmacher als ein zentraler Vertreter der zweiten Berliner
Schule der elektronischen Musik. Doch der Anfang war steinig. Erst ein vom Mund abgesparter Korg
Mono/Poly legte 1982 den Grundstein für Kistenmachers Karriere. 1984 trat er erstmals mit der Kassette
"Dancing Sequences" öffentlich in Erscheinung. Und damit einem Werk, das sich stark am analogen Sound
von Klaus Schulze und Tangerine Dream orientierte. Mit "Music From Outer Space" und "Romantic Times"
folgten zwei weitere Kassettenproduktionen, bevor 1986 seine Debüt-LP "Head-Visions" auf den Markt kam.
Das Album ist geprägt durch repetitive Motive, weiche Melodiebögen, geschichtete Klanglandschaften und
rhythmische Basslinien. Die Reaktion auf "Head-Visions" war überwältigend. Radio-Airplay, große Konzerte
und Aufträge für Modeschauen und TV-Formate zeigten, dass er auf dem richtigen Weg war. Kistenmachers
Debüt wird nun als Digipak, Vinyl und Download mit dem Original-Cover des Berliner Bildhauers Rainer
Kriester wiederveröffentlicht. Parallel erscheint das Re-Issue von "Wake Up In The Sun", Kistenmachers

Föllakzoid began seven years ago as a trance experience between childhood friends Diego, Juan Pablo, and Domingo from Santiago, Chile. Heavily informed by the heritage of the ancient music of the Andes, the band has learned to integrate this influence with contemporary sounds of their times, creating a rich yet minimal atmosphere.

For III, the band wanted to expand their sound while building an atmosphere with mainly monochords and reiteration. After recording and mixing the album on their own at their studio at BYM Records, they partnered with German electronic maestro Atom TM to flesh out the album's synth parts. Most of the sounds he provided were atonal electronic sounds, aiming for concrete frequencies and sampled organic glitches. (The Korg synthesizer Atom TM plays on this record was used by Kraftwerk on a tour during the '80s and given to him by Florian Schneider.)

III is a four-part minimal sound voyage in which you can hear Föllakzoid's musical language developing into something more upbeat, obscure, and sharp, yet even simpler in terms of elements. During the past year, the band played more than 80 gigs, including at Primavera Sound Festival (both Porto and Barcelona), ATP Festival in the UK, Musique Volantes in Lyon, and Lollapalooza Chile. Herbert House music fans will not be disappointed by this clutch of rare tracks, available for a short time on vinyl. After such an overwhelming positive response to Matthew Herbert's recent return with the Wishmountain project 'Tesco', Accidental records have decided to release this limited run 12' featuring some of the highlights of the original project., including the classic 'Radio'.
Radio was first championed by Djs such as Sven Vath and Westbam as well as being a club classic for legendary clubs like Fuse in Belgium. The track blasted its way in to nightclubs around the world despite being made only from 8 sounds of a beaten up plastic radio. In many ways it made Matthew's name, as someone ready to bring real and challenging sounds to the largely synthetic soundscape of club music while being unafraid to make people dance at the same time.

So what is After the void ..We Bang the Bomb of course with a lady in a thong surrounded by snakes and hand grenade's, obvious really! Having been away for some time it appears that a Light Sounds Dark spring is in the air. En route to their next destination (rumoured to be a dark subterranean world full of nasty mutants 'Danger electrified tracks' out this Summer) with arms out the window and the mothership roof down, it's full steam ahead and proper European dance music time.

Not really train spotting as before although a couple are a bit off piste like Malta's very own Ian Dury by the name of Iain Richardson rapping about sitting on a green bus! much more like it however are classic Italo covers of 'Big in Japan', 'Gloria', a wonderful new wave version of Falco's euro smash 'Der Kommissar' and The Thoughts massive German hit 'Wait a Long Time' sounding like some long lost Talk Talk record. Light Sounds Dark do some minor tweaking (going for that natural look) to big beast anthems Axodry's 'You' and Colme 111's 'You Take Me High' (early euro take on Chicago) and for lovers of something a bit more funky there's some groovy goings on from Kraut funksters Epsilon urging people to 'Leave The City' which might not be a bad idea if the water runs out.
