Das selbstbetitelte Debüt von ENVY OF NONE, der bunten Zusammenrottung von Gitarrist/Keyboarder Alf Annibalini, Rush-Gitarrist Alex Lifeson, Bassist Andy Curran (Coney Hatch) und Singer/Songwriterin Maiah Wynne war eine der spannendsten Grenzgänger-Platten des Jahres 2022 und hat sich bis heute nicht abgenutzt. Die Band schreibt schlicht verdammt gute, emotional greifbare und musikalisch fesselnde Lieder in einem Spannungsfeld aus State-of-the-Art-Elektronik und Rock/Pop-Tradition.

Die nun nachgeschobene EP "That Was Then, This Is Now" dient ihrem Titel entsprechend als Standortbestimmung und enthält zwei Tracks aus den Debüt-Sessions, zwei Remixe und das erste nach "Envy of None" komponierte ´That Was Then´. Stilistisch war das Quartett von Beginn an so vielseitig, dass man nun nicht von einer zusätzlichen Erweiterung ihres Repertoires sprechen kann - doch das famose Songwriting bleibt erhalten, und für Rush-Fans noch besser: Lifesons Spiel schimmert noch einen Tick präsenter durch.

´Lethe River´ ist dem Album-Opener ´Never Said I Love You´ relativ ähnlich, aber insgesamt doch ruhiger. Darauf folgt mit ´You´ll Be Sorry´ sachte brodelnder und zischender Industrial light, der ebenfalls auf "Envy of None" hätte stehen können - was ja auch plausibel erscheint, weil beide Stücke im gleichen Rutsch entstanden sind.

Taking his place alongside the likes of Khruangbin, Tame Impala, Bonobo and Madlib, Skinshape’s global kaleidoscopes are loaded with warmth and wisdom created on vintage analogue equipment applying a perfectionist’s touch. As a former member of indie band Palace, he has played everywhere from Glastonbury and BBC Maida Vale to headlining Shepherd’s Bush Empire. Conversely as a solo artist Skinshape has never played live preferring to record, releasing an album a year (two in 2020’s lockdown) and keeping away from the trappings of stardom.

A kaleidoscope of harmony vocals - as Crosby, Stills and Nash might have sounded with a funky back beat. Delicate acoustic fingerpicking, warmed by a swell of brass before a drama of electric unfolds. Guitar band music, delivered with the sensibilities of someone who knows how to make you dance. Sun-kissed blue-eyed soul, reminiscent of Ned Doheny, but emanating from a beach far from California.

These are the sounds of Jim, as heard on debut album 'Love Makes Magic'.

Debuting in 2021 on the folk-informed 'Falling That You Know' EP, Jim is the latest alias of songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and renowned DJ Jim Baron. Famed as co-founder and musical director of festival-stunning favourites Crazy P, his latest Jim project is a musical journey unlike anything he has done before.

Gelato Italiano vol.1 is a Various Artists EP created as if it was a playlist for a gelato shop, with different sounds inside, like various flavors of gelato. The idea comes from Francesco Fisotti, owner of Gelateria Fisotti, based in Otranto. The summer there is hot and gelato should be eaten with the right vibes, definitely Italo-Disco, Jungle, House, Hip Hop, Broken Beat.

Timo Kaukolampi, frontman for Finnish electronic rock group K-X-P and tireless sonic wanderer, is releasing his second solo album, this time on Optimo Music. Exquisitely rendered, shadowy, curiously claustrophobic and even occasionally paranoid, Inside The Sphere is an album wholly deserving of its name.

A sense of paranoia is one of the threads through this glittering, winking electronic maze. Kaukolampi says “I came up with this metaphysical concept of the “sphere”. When you are manipulated you are ‘Inside The Sphere’. It’s like this dome of ‘undue influence’ that you don’t know exists around you. It’s a bit like the inside of a cult.”

Indeed, it’s amazing the effects achieved with a few sparse electronic textures, the odd smattering of studio trickery, and two or three well-placed synthesizer parts. Though the result might sound ostensibly simplistic, Inside The Sphere is an album of reduction rather than addition. The rhythmic and textural scaffolding is based around what’s not there, rather than what is. Take ‘VCS3’. At first listen, it seems forged from a few synth lines and a simple percussion part – so far, so simple. But listen closer, enter the sphere, look behind the mask – notice the slightly detuned drones, the chattering percussive textures, that distant swell of bass, the way the central fugue shifts and mutates somehow statically, like a barber’s pole.

Might we be listening to an album within an album, a more complex song cycle hiding within the folds of an ambient electronic album? This ties in with another of Kaukolampi’s thematic frameworks – that of the mask. He references Oscar Wilde’s quotation that “Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth.”

Inside The Sphere is not a one-note album. For every moment where a clammy ambient space enters, a buttery analogue bassline is there to fill it. This clash seems to be the album’s engine room, its power supply.

Timo references devotional and choir music as an influence on this album. The paranoia and foreboding is tempered by these headier aspects. Kaukolampi mentions “empty and hollow spaces” in relation to several of the songs. Perhaps this is the very space behind the mask, where outward disguise merges with inner reality. Perhaps inside the sphere is not always such a bad place to be.

Angel Deradoorian and Kate NV are Decisive Pink - Ticket To Fame is their highly anticipated debut. After teasing the single 'Haffmilch Holiday' the duo amassed a rapturous response, with The Guardian calling it "a space-age-dancefloor swoon that brings to mind Kate Bush's Waking the Witch" and the New York Times highlighting the single as "substantive and thoroughly hypnotic". On their first LP they do not disappoint, calling on Kate NV's experimental pop leanings and Angel Deradoorian's taste for atmosphere and otherworldliness, Decisive Pink have created a playful and abstract album designed for escape and enchantment. Electronic pop at it's finest, the debut points to the fact that life is a puzzle, but you can still get a lot from living it. 'Destiny' is a smart take on the nature of belief, built on a question-and-answer format, where Angel plays a role as the seer, and Kate the enquirer. The poppy beat is reminiscent of Talking Heads' 'The Great Curve', from Remain in Light. There again, it could be a sinister take on Will Powers' 'Kissing with Confidence'. The synth squeaks, squelches and toots sound like the timid affirmation of the initiate. Ticket to Fame is also unashamedly romantic in atmosphere and tone. Romance is to be found in the simple pleasures, such as listening to a blackbird on the instrumental 'Rodeo', where warm synths, a melancholic guitar pattern and hissing rhythm combine with some vocal snippets to form a soothing contemplation. Then there is 'Ode to Boy'; a perfect pop track. The walking into the room of "more than just an ordinary boy" (doubtless "drunk with fire") allows a set of initially different, and shortened synth patterns to build to a glorious affirmation of the power of love. The second release on the BINÄR-Label is a split between Kaiser and FORUM. The EP starts with a bouncy track, continues with dreamy noises and ends with two massaging and tooly tunes. The tracks are mastered by Nihad Tule.

We are delighted to welcome from the Finnish electronic music underground the artists MESAK to the n s y d e family. Mesak's dedication to experimentation and sonic exploration always excited us. With an extraordinary sense of futuristic sound designs, these tracks are a perfect example of finding the sweet spots between established and new techniques. The First track "Katosi" shows impressively how a contemporary dertroitish sound design is still able to transport ancient human feelings like hope and melancholia at the same time.

The acidic grounded "Narina" creates a dungeon space constantly hitting the whiplash snare drum, while "Post Sweat" is pouring golden Larry Heard-like warm Deep House neutrons upon you.


For the Remix, he has invited one of the most interesting artists in the field of electronic experimentation coming out of France, Poborsk, also known under his Bill Vortex moniker.


Mesak's music invites listeners to explore a range of emotions and moods, from the contemplative to the ecstatic, with a sense of sincerity and authenticity that is extraordinarily rare.

In Hollis Debütalbum Der erste gute Tag kann sich jeder wiederfinden, der auch schon mal einen schlechten Tag hatte Der erste gute Tag ist ein Album übers Älterwerden und übers Dazulernen, über Fehler und was man aus diesen mitnehmen kann.

So ist es dann auch eher auf der melancholischen Seite der Gemütsskala angesiedelt, wenn auch beizeiten tanzbar-lebhafter Indie Rock und melodisch-folkige Arrangements darüber hinwegtäuschen mögen. Der erste gute Tag ist ein Album in tagebuchartigen Momentaufnahmen, aber ohne aufdringliche Weisheiten.

The formidable Rex The Dog returns with his first single for Kompakt in three years, “Change This Pain For Ecstasy”, a slow-burning disco-glitter stomp that’s charged with analog energy. Pushing his self-built modular hardware set-up to its limits, “Change This Pain For Ecstasy” is taut and thrilling, stripped-back and pulsating, with sweeping chords shimmering through a classic Moroder arpeggio, as a delirious voice sings out a psychedelic raver’s plaint for liberation, pleading for you to "take away my sorrow and this pain”. Deeply emotional, it’s also a masterwork in tension and release, dizzy with snare-rush peaks, and dark, humid valleys where Rex is bound to the patchbay.

On the flipside, Rex gives us “Moto”, which tickles your ear with cymatic phenomena, its gentle vibrations building, beautifully, into a monster-piece of stealth techno. Rex’s DIY synths work overtime as he chases patterns and phases through circuitry, wielding the tones until they erupt into a spray of pointillist pizzicato. The sounds here crackle and corrode, the textures so tantalizing, so sensual, you can almost grab hold of them with your hands. It’s great to have Rex The Dog back, making livewire, yet deeply human techno, alive and bursting with electricity.

Man kann förmlich spüren, wie Rex’ selbstgebautes modulares Hardware-Setup an seine Grenzen gerät. “Change This Pain For Ecstasy” ist eine Hymne an das Nachtleben, an die kathartische Qualität einer durchtanzten Nacht. Über schwungvolle Akkorde und ein hochenergetisches Moroder-Arpeggio bittet eine delirierende Stimme um Befreiung von allem Leid und Schmerz. Das ist zutiefst rührend und emotional – da es sich hier aber um ein Meisterwerk der Spannung und Entspannung handelt – schwingt sich der Track plötzlich auf in schwindelerregende Höhen der Euphorie.

Auf der anderen Seite gibt Rex uns “Moto”, das das Ohr mit zymatischen Phänomenen kitzelt, deren sanften Vibrationen sich zu einem Monster von Stealth-Technotrack aufbauen. Rex’ DIY-Synthesizer machen Überstunden, während er Muster und Phasen durch die Schaltkreise jagt bis sie in einen Sprühregen aus pointillistischem Pizzicato ausbrechen. Die Sounds hier knistern und korrodieren, die Texturen so verlockend, so sinnlich, dass man sie fast mit den Händen greifen kann.

Es ist großartig, Rex The Dog zurück zu haben, der hochverdrahteten und doch zutiefst menschlichen Techno macht, voller Leben und Elektrizität.

When approached several years back by the highly revered Toy Tonics crew/ record label to participate in a remix for artists Karl Hector & Nicolas Tounga for their song titled Ngunga Yet Fofa; just on the strength of a sincere enthusiasm showed by the request alone, it wasn't long after that Joaquin Joe Claussell accepted the challenge to remix an already original dope composition. Originally released, and still available on their Mushroom House Concept 12" EP 4 Cat number TOYT 068; on it Joaquin produced a unique remixed and married Acoustic art with electronic ecstasy. Fast Forward to today Sacred Rhythm with the blessings of Toy Tonics brings forth a dope 12" the compliments that precious version, but with dope different, more experimental takes all in the rhythm of Afro Electronics.

The 2022 DreamWorks Animation film Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is the sequel to the spin-off film Puss In Boots (2011) and the sixth installment in the Shrek franchise. Directed by Joel Crawford, the film features a voice star cast including Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek Pinault, Florence Pugh, Olivia Coleman, and John Mulaney amongst others. It received an Academy Award-nomination for Best Animated Feature Film. The story follows the daring Puss In Boots, who discovers that his passion for peril and disregard for safety have taken their toll. Puss has burned through eight of his nine lives, though he lost count along the way. Getting those lives back will send Puss in Boots on his grandest quest yet.

Heitor Pereira composed the film's score, who is best known for scoring the Despicable Me franchise. For this specific release, Pereira selected his favourite pieces to be featured. Together with his team, these pieces were mastered to sound as best as possible on vinyl. It features the additional tracks "Fearless Hero (Hero Version)" with Antonio Banderas, "Por Qué te Vas" by Gaby Moreno, "This Is the End" by Dan Navarro & "La Vida Es Una" by KAROL G.

Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange "Puss" marbled vinyl. This vinyl package includes the map to the "Wishing Star" and a 4-page booklet with liner notes by director Joel Crawford.

Jayda G, die Grammy nominierte Produzentin, DJ, Umwelttoxikologin und -aktivistin, meldet sich mit ihrem neuen Album, „Guy“, zurück. Das Album wurde gemeinsam mit Jack Peñate produziert (der bereits mit Künstler:innen wie Sault, David Byrne und Adele zusammengearbeitet hat), mit Beiträgen von Lisa-Kaindé Diaz (von Ibeyi), Ed Thomas (Stormzy, Nia Archives, Jorja Smith) und anderen.

Das Album erscheint nach ein paar ereignisreichen Jahren, in denen sie für einen Grammy nominiert wurde (für ihre Single mit Fred Again.., „Both Of Us“), eine Reihe hochkarätiger Remixe für Taylor Swift und Dua Lipa veröffentlichte, auf den größten Festivals und Bühnen der Welt spielte, darunter Glastonbury und Coachella, eine Compilation für die renommierte „DJ Kicks“-Reihe und eine hochgelobte Zusammenarbeit mit Aluna veröffentlichte, als Gastjurorin bei der BBC-Show „Glow Up“ auftrat, ihre Jugendliebe in ihrer kanadischen Heimatstadt Grand Forks heiratete und an der immersiven Installation „Undercurrent“ (New York, Juni '21) mitwirkte, die sich neben Künstler:innen wie Khruangbin, Nosaj Thing, Mount Kimbie und Bon Iver mit der Klimakrise befasste.
Das neue Album, „Guy“, stellt Jayda Gs eigene Stimme und ihre Lyrics stärker in den Mittelpunkt als je zuvor. Die 13 Tracks basieren auf ihren House-, Disco-, R&B- und Soul-Wurzeln und betonen gleichzeitig ihr Feingefühl als Pop-Songwriterin, durchsetzt mit Archivaufnahmen ihres verstorbenen Vaters, William Richard Guy. Trotz der manchmal traurigen Natur des Ausgangsmaterials erweist sich das Album letztendlich als eine erhebende und positive Erfahrung, sowohl musikalisch als auch von der Botschaft her, die es vermittelt.

New Land präsentiert mit Stolz das erste Box-Set mit mehreren LPs von Dorothy Ashby - einer der am meisten übersehenen Künstlerinnen der Jazzgeschichte. Die 6 LPs, die in diesem aufwendigen Box-Set enthalten sind, geben einen längst überfälligen Rückblick auf ihre frühen Werke: 'The Jazz Harpist', 'Hip Harp' mit Frank Wess, 'In A Minor Groove' mit Frank Wess, 'Soft Winds: The Swinging Harp Of Dorothy Ashby', 'Dorothy Ashby' und 'The Fantastic Harp Of Dorothy Ashby' wurden mit der vollen Unterstützung des Nachlasses von Dorothy Ashby offiziell lizenziert.

Alle Alben, mit Ausnahme von 'The Jazz Harpist' und 'Dorothy Ashby', wurden von Kevin Gray direkt von den analogen Originalbändern neu gemastert und im Lackschnittverfahren auf schwarze 180g-Vinyle gepresst.

Das Herzstück dieses Box-Sets ist allerdings das umfangreiche 44-seitige Buch mit einem Vorwort der Grammy-nominierten Harfenistin Brandee Younger, ausführlichen Linernotes von Shannon J. Effinger und bisher unveröffentlichten Fotos und Interviews mit denjenigen, die sie am besten kannten. Das Box-Set ist weltweit auf 1000 Stück limitiert.

In solchen Momente gelangen Geschichten wie "das Märchen, das es nie gab" in die Texte und Musik von TENHI. Auf ihrem sechsten Album "Valkama", was unter anderem so viel wie "Hafen" oder "Zuflucht" bedeutet, erzählen die Finnen von einer die ursprünglich als Märchen gedachten Reise aus einem brennenden, vom Krieg zerrissenen Dorf über dunkle Gewässer zu einer Insel der Toten. Auf dieser Insel, die in der finnischen Folklore Verisurma ("der Ort für diejenigen, die den Blut-Tod erlitten haben") genannt wird, wohnen diejenigen, die im Krieg starben oder mit einer Klinge getötet wurden. An den Ufern vergießen sie für immer ihr Blut. Doch in den zehn Jahren, in denen TENHI an dem Album arbeiteten, sickerte zunehmend die blutige Realität mit ihren aktuellen Schrecken und Kriegen in die Märchenwelt ein. Jahr für Jahr spürten die Musiker, wie ihre Geschichte immer wirklicher erschien. Schließlich war ein Pegelstand erreicht, an dem die Band beschloss, ihren Kurs zu ändern. Obwohl noch immer Anklänge an das ursprüngliche Werk hörbar und im Artwork auch sichtbar sind, fühlt sich das finale Album ruhiger, harmonischer und sogar heller an als die erste Fassung. Die Band hätte kaum einen passenderen Namen als TENHI wählen können. Das alte finnische Wort bezeichnet einen "Ältesten" oder "Schamanen". Während die Schamanen des finnischen Nordens unter anderem als Vermittler zwischen ihrer Gemeinschaft und der Geisterwelt dienten, sind TENHI musikalische Grenzgänger zwischen dunklem Folk und Folkrock, die sogar bis in die elektrifizierte Welt des Metal hinein wirken. Dies legt zwar einen Vergleich mit WARDRUNA und HEILUNG nahe, doch nur im spirituellen Sinne und nicht in Hinblick auf den Stil. TENHI wurden im Jahr 1996 von Gitarrist und Sänger Tyko Saarikko ins Leben gerufen. Ein paar Jahre später stieß Ilmari Issakainen zur Band. Gemeinsam bilden die beiden Musiker den kreativen Kern der Gruppe. Nach der Selbstveröffentlichung ihres Demos "Kertomuksia" (1997) und der MCD "Hallavedet" (1998) trafen die Finnen 1999 mit dem Debütalbum "Kauan" auf Anhieb einen Nerv. Ins neue Jahrtausend starteten TENHI dann mit einer weiteren MCD namens "Airut:ciwi" (2000). Es folgte eine Reihe von Alben, die von "Väre" (2002) über "Maaäet" (2006) und "Airut:aamujen" (2006) bis zu "Saivo" (2011) reichte. Mit jedem neuen Album vergrößerten die Finnen ihre treue Fangemeinde, die aus diversen musikalischen Richtungen kommt. TENHI verbanden von Anfang an akustische Instrumente und traditionelle Töne mit Strukturen aus der zeitgenössischen Rockmusik. Während das Vorgängeralbum "Saivo" zuletzt verstärkt in Richtung Ambient und Panorama-Soundtrack tendierte, kehrt "Valkama" zu Songstrukturen zurück - wenn auch oft mäandernd und im epischen Format. "Valkama" kommt mit den typisch finnischen Gefühlen der Sehnsucht und anhaltender Melancholie daher. Doch trotz der hörbaren Dunkelheit bieten TENHI ein musikalisches Antidot für die Schrecken der modernen Welt an. Im Zwielicht der Welt des Nordens ist "Valkama" der Silberstreif am Horizont, der innere Geborgenheit und Frieden verspricht.

Ins neue Jahrtausend starteten TENHI dann mit einer weiteren MCD namens "Airut:ciwi" (2000). Es folgte eine Reihe von Alben, die von "Väre" (2002) über "Maaäet" (2006) und "Airut:aamujen" (2006) bis zu "Saivo" (2011) reichte. Mit jedem neuen Album vergrößerten die Finnen ihre treue Fangemeinde, die aus diversen musikalischen Richtungen kommt. TENHI verbanden von Anfang an akustische Instrumente und traditionelle Töne mit Strukturen aus der zeitgenössischen Rockmusik. Während das Vorgängeralbum "Saivo" zuletzt verstärkt in Richtung Ambient und Panorama-Soundtrack tendierte, kehrt "Valkama" zu Songstrukturen zurück - wenn auch oft mäandernd und im epischen Format. "Valkama" kommt mit den typisch finnischen Gefühlen der Sehnsucht und anhaltender Melancholie daher. Doch trotz der hörbaren Dunkelheit bieten TENHI ein musikalisches Antidot für die Schrecken der modernen Welt an. Emile Mosseri is an Oscar and GRAMMY nominated artist, earning acclaim for his scores for the films Minari (2021) and The Last Black Man In San Francisco (2019) Recently worked with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith on the critically acclaimed album, "I Could Be Your Dog / I Could Be Your Moon" (2022). On Heaven Hunters, Mosseri looks inwards, using his distinctive sound and gift for musical storytelling for his most personal work. Ruhig verlief die Karriere von Sieges Even nicht. Nach den ersten beiden Alben verzeichneten sie den ersten Besetzungswechsel auf der Sängerposition, auf den Album „Sophisticated“ (1995) und „Uneven“ (1997) betrieben die Holzwarth Brüder (Bass und Drums) die Band weiter.
Doch man fand sich wieder mit Gitarrist Markus Steffen zusammen
und rekrutierte den Ausnahmesänger Arno Menses, der zuvor als Schlagzeuger aktiv war. Mit diesem Line Up eroberte man die Herzen der Progfans, aber auch die von anspruchsvollen Metalheads. Erneut waren Sieges Even zum richtigen Zeitpunkt am richtigen Ort.

„The Art Of Navigating By The Stars“ wurde in dem Black Solaris Studio von Uwe Lulis (heute auch bekannt als Gitarrist von Accept) aufgenommen und erschien bei InsideOut Music, damals im SPV Vertrieb. Es folgten traumhafte Kritiken, auch für die im Anschluss stattfindende Tournee.

Natürlich war 2005 nicht an Vinyl zu denken, so dass diese Wiederveröffentlichung bereits von vielen Fans erwartet wird.
Aber auch die CD ist seit einigen Jahren „out of print“, so dass auch hier Handlungsbedarf bestand. Die Grafiken der Doppel-LP im Gatefold wurde vom Originalkünstler Thomas Ewerhard erstellt und das Audiomaterial getrennt für Vinyl und CD remastert.

Das Konzept rund um „The Art Of Navigating By The Stars“ begeistert heute noch ebenso wie die sowohl vertrackte und harte, aber eben auch gefühlvolle Musik. Hier waren Sieges Even einfach die deutschen Großmeister.

Sieges Even‘s career has not been quiet. After the first two albums, the band had its first change of singer. On the albums „Sophisticated“ (1995) and „Uneven“ (1997), the Holzwarth brothers (bass and drums) kept the band going. But they ended up with the guitarist Markus Steffen and recruited the outstanding singer Arno Menses, who was previously active as a drummer. With this line up, the band has won the hearts of prog fans, but also of demanding metalheads. Once again, Sieges Even was in the right place at the right time.

„The Art Of Navigating By The Stars“ was recorded in the Black Solaris studio by Uwe Lulis (also known today as Accept‘s guitarist) and released by InsideOut Music, then distributed by SPV. This was followed by dream reviews, also for the tour that followed.

Of course, there was no question of releasing a vinyl in 2005, so this reissue is already expected by many fans. Hatıralar was Anadol's second album, originally composed between Berlin and Istanbul around 2012 and released years later only in digital form on the Istanbul based label Inverted Spectrum. The title Hatıralar ("Memories") turns out to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. Anadol recalled and revisited the music in 2023, gently editing and mixing the compositions for the newly mastered LP format in which they now see the light of day. Hatıralar represents an early version of the melodic, instrumental synth-pop that Anadol refined on her album Uzun Havalar (2019) before exploring the more free, krautrock-inspired musique concrète of her last album Felicita (2021). Here is the text that accompanied the original 2017 release:

Anadol, named after an old-fashioned Turkish automobile brand, is an instrumental synth-pop project by Gözen Atila, an artist, dj and keyboard player. She records with mini organs manufactured during the 70s and 80s, the built-in rhythms and arpeggios of these machines provide the backbone of her sound, and her melodies are influenced by pop music and soundtracks from France, Italy and Turkey from the same period. The music is awash with allusions to the moods of old Turkish and European cinema, from the erotic to the melodramatic, and with a reminiscence of the sound and spirit of so-called "tavern music" popular in Turkey's urban nightlife in the 1980s, a flexible pop style usually performed by a solo keyboardist-singer. Anadol is a continuation of the tradition of lone synth experimentalists like Bruce Haack and The Space Lady with their childlike curiosity for electronic sounds, and of the keyboardists pushing the boundaries of minimal equipment to entertain middle aged drunk couples in pubs and wedding parties of Istanbul.

Innerhalb von gefühlt nur wenigen Monaten versorgten Bands wie The Strokes, The White Stripes, The Libertines und The Moldy Peaches das Indie-Publikum mit neuen Versionen und Interpretationen des Rock'n'Roll-Kanons, Mit Einflüssen, die sowohl Standards wie The Velvet Underground, Television, The Stones, The Doors, The Stooges, Leonard Cohen, The Modern Lovers und Bob Dylan als auch neuere Künstler wie Beck, Daniel Johnston, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Will Oldham, Pavement und The Silver Jews umfassten. "Come, Sweet Death" wechselt zwischen Brutalität und sich windenden Single-String-Melodien, die einen in die goldenen Zeiten des schwedischen Death Metal zurückversetzen!

Man sagt, dass je mehr sich die Dinge ändern, desto mehr bleiben sie gleich. Wenn es eine Sache gibt, die stabil geblieben ist, obwohl wir im Jahr 2023 leben, dann ist es, dass wir schwedischen Death Metal lieben. Dieser Stil hat sich in den letzten 35 Jahren zu einem unsererFavoriten entwickelt.
Irgendetwas am Gitarrensound macht einfach Lust, jede Veröffentlichung zu verschlingen, die als "inspiriert von frühen Entombed und Dismember" beschrieben werden kann. Und in gewisser Weise ist das keine Überraschung, denn die Bandmitglieder waren oder sind an Vampire, Portrait, Nominon und Dr. Living Dead beteiligt! Higher Octave is a pairing of two guys intrinsic to the UK rave and hardcore scene. David Salvi, owner of Pro-One Records, the label to originally release this record along with a slew of other artists such as Law & Auder, Bay B Kane, Submania, Utomica and DJ Hopa, who is the other half of Higher Octave. David was also half of the group Utomica, whose Rok A Bye track was repressed by Vinyl Fanitiks in 2020 and has long since sold out.

David always credits Hopa as the guy with the ideas… he was out at all the raves and was always on point with how tracks should sound and any new trends that were incoming were hot on his radar. David was the guy with the studio, ready to help make Hopa’s ideas into reality.

For his new album, Without People, Donovan Woods explains: “Anything but protest music feels out of place right now. In the middle of a pandemic, as the truth of our environmental devastation sinks in, in the thick of protests reshaping our thoughts on policing and crystallizing the reality of white supremacy at work in all corners of our society, it feels silly to write about relationships. I was thinking about that when the title “Without People” came to me. It made me think about the intrusion of real life, other people’s needs and opinions into our internal worlds. It made me think about life as a series of lessons that all seem to be about learning to cope without people you love. And it made me think about how beautiful the world could be without us, and how we’re perhaps the first generation to consider that notion as a real possibility.”

Donovan Woods was curious: What if he re-recorded Both Ways, his acclaimed 2018 record that won him a Juno Award for contemporary roots album, and distilled its 12 songs to their bare essence? An “acoustic reimagining,” if you will. “We started from scratch,” he says, from the instrumentation to his vocals to a fresh understanding of the heartache and regret that underpinned those songs. “There are no recording elements carried over from that album. It’s all brand-new.” Woods ended up with The Other Way, his album that brims with inspired interpretations of Both Ways that are intimate yet startling in their urgency. Released on May 3, 2019 on Meant Well, this release is a reminder of why the Canadian artist has become such a sought-after songwriter whose work has been recorded by Tim McGraw (“Portland, Maine”) and Lady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley (“Leaving Nashville”), with Spotify streams approaching nearly 90 million. You’ve always been able to hear and connect with Woods’ words. But an odd sensation washes over you when the varnish is wiped off of Woods’ songs. Somehow the lyrics burrow with even greater resonance and then linger like little smoke rings. For a producer, Woods enlisted ace guitarist Todd Lombardo, who produced Woods’ song “Portland, Maine” in 2015 and wrote and played most of the guitar parts on Kacey Musgraves’ Grammy-winning Golden Hour. Woods gave Lombardo artistic license not only to change the chords and song structures but to overhaul the arrangements with acoustic instruments and Lombardo’s luminous guitar work as the centerpiece. “I think this album draws out the pain and the darkness of these songs,” Lombardo says. “The record is about loss and failure and feeling like you fucked it up, and there’s no mistaking that. You hear every single word – and feel it, too.” Coming on the heels of “Go to Her,” Woods’ first song of 2019, The Other Way is so revelatory that it makes you wonder why he didn’t try this approach sooner. “It’s always been an interesting idea to me, especially when you’re an artist like me who inherently disappoints some people anytime your sound gets bigger,” Woods says. “But a really good song is a good song in any arrangement. It’s like a beautiful hardwood floor. You can put any furniture in there, and it’s going to look good.”

Band: VORNA Album: Sateet palata saavat Release Date: September 27th Clichés almost always have a true core. That artists from the (European) Far North tend to melancholy is one thing that has already been confirmed many times. VORNA is no different. The band from Tampere has been in existence since 2008, and still is today in its original line-up. The six-piece group is well-rehearsed and has continuously developed its sound over the years. With pride and self-confidence the musicians grasp their playing as "Finnish melancholic metal". This means songs with a dark mood and an emotional state-of-mind, which cause reactions from the developing atmosphere. The melancholy comes to bear on different levels, but without ever slipping into pessimistic gloom. VORNA's access to the heavy spectrum is broad and open-minded. The six musicians are guided by their emotions and transform them into dark tuned music. Starting from a base between Folk and Black Metal, the Finns have enriched their playing since 2008. The symphonic extension of the third album underlines the atmospheric and melodic composition of the songs. "Sateet palata saavat" means something like "Return to Rains". In other words: something is brewing before the sky opens its floodgates and the power of nature discharges. This picture fits very well to what VORNA musically have to offer. "Sateet palata saavat" develops to be tense and intense. VORNA's vocals, left in Finnish, don't compromise the access to VORNA's "Finnish melancholic metal". The underlying emotions can be empathized and create an interaction with the listener right from the beginning. The organic songwriting of VORNA underlines the down-to-earth approach, the Finns are following. Partially, however, "Sateet palata saavat" sounds uncanny and creepy.

Grant hatte nie den Plan, Musiker zu werden. Er hat keinerlei musikalische Ausbildung genossen. Noten lesen kann er nicht. Aber wenn er sich an ein Klavier setzt, geschieht etwas Magisches. Die Noten strömen aus ihm heraus und es entsteht eine Komposition nach der anderen.
