Erik Rico returns to Cosmocities with The Rare Groove Project, a limited-edition EP featuring funk-heavy, soulful covers of groove gems from Matt Soulie’s vinyl vault, alongside standout remixes from Gerd, DJ Nature, and Aroop Roy.

The EP opens with a brassy, high-energy take on P.J. City’s Straight Forward, followed by Gerd’s Chicago house-inspired remix and a funkier alternate version full of disco-era charm. Rico then revamps Franklyn’s Future Love into an electrified P-funk boogie blast, while NYC’s DJ Nature turns out a synth-laced, bass-driven after-hours groove.

Rico also reworks Star Lighters’ Disco Funk into a high-impact, slap-bass purple tinged stomper, with UK house and jazz funk expert Aroop Roy rounding things out with a dancefloor house flavoured summer anthem.

Recorded in the summer of 1978 in Manhattan's C. I. Recording Studio this rare encounter of jazz's supreme instrumentalists and individualists Walt Dickerson (1928 - 2008) and Sun Ra (1914 - 1993) became an instant cult album among the followers of Avant Garde jazz of the '70s.

The author of the newly added liner notes Neil Tesser remarks, "Nearly a half-century after the fact, Visions now stands as a milestone of free improvisation". Almost half a century ago Trevor Tolley of Canadian jazz publication Coda enthused, "This is a tremendous record...outstanding collaborations throughout this beautiful record, as well as some gloriously sustained solo passages...it is the work of two masters in the full certainty of their powers."

The Bug Club sind wieder da, für ihren jährlichen Termin auf dem Markt der Garagen-Rock-Macher, wo sie eine weitere reinrassige Platte anpreisen. LP-Nummer vier, "Very Human Features", erscheint kurz nach der ersten Sub Pop-Veröffentlichung der Band, "On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System" von 2024. Mit dieser Platte setzte die Band ihre Liebesbeziehung zu BBC Radio 6 fort, begann dank einer Session mit KEXP eine neue und tauchte auf den Seiten des NME auf. Gibt es noch etwas auf der Liste? Oh ja, Festivalauftritte, unter anderem im heimischen Green Man's Walled Garden, das bis auf den letzten Platz gefüllt ist. Dann Auftritte in den USA an den Orten, von denen die Briten immer nur hören. Dieses Album - eine neue Ladung typisch verspielter, riffgeladener, intelligenter Bug Club-Songs - gibt der Band einen Vorwand, ihre nicht enden wollende Tournee fortzusetzen und ihre schreienden Fans zu füttern, die dank der unermüdlichen Veröffentlichungswelle dieser Band überschwänglich und erwartungsvoll sind. Auf "Very Human Features" haben The Bug Club ihre Gewohnheit fortgesetzt, sich als ein kollektiver Geist zu präsentieren. Zwei in Einem. Selten findet man eine Band mit zwei kreativen Kräften, die eine so einzigartige, gemeinsame Perspektive, Sinn für Humor und ein Händchen für Popmelodien haben. In "Beep Boop Computers" wechseln Sänger Sam (auch an der Gitarre) und Tilly (am Bass) zwischen I's, my's und we's hin und her, als ob es da keinen Unterschied gäbe, während sie zwischenmenschliche Beziehungen und Erfahrungen in einer glorreichen Glam-Rock-Demontage der menschlichen Aspekte, auf die der Titel des Albums verweist, auf die Schippe nehmen. Um beim Thema zu bleiben: "How to Be a Confidante" macht das, was The-Bug-Club wirklich können, indem sie, wieder als zwei Stimmen aus demselben Kopf, allgemeine Aspekte unseres Lebens herausgreifen und sie lächerlich klingen lassen. Das Surreale liegt im Vertrauten, nicht im Ignorieren des Vertrauten - The Bug Club wissen das, und dieses Verständnis bildet zusammen mit einer unerbittlichen Basslinie das Rückgrat dieses Garagenrock-angehauchten Gassenhauers. Nachdem The Bug Club in den USA dank der kräftigen Garagen-Punk-Scheibe "On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System" und der anschließenden US-Tournee eine entsprechend große Fangemeinde gewonnen haben, wird die fruchtbare Partnerschaft mit Sup Pop mit "Very Human Features" noch schmackhafter. Das Dream-Pop-Duo Sorry Girls aus Montreal kehrt mit seinem dritten Album "Dreamwalker" zurück, das über Arbutus Records erscheint. Ihre exzentrische Mischung aus nostalgischen 70er-Jahre-Powerballaden und 80er-Jahre-Kitsch durchbricht neue Schwellen, zerlegt vergebliche Illusionen, um der Kälte zu trotzen und zu fragen, was vor uns liegt. Seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 2015 haben Heather Foster Kirkpatrick und Dylan Konrad Obront ihre eigene Marke von üppigem, vergnügungssüchtigem Synth-Pop geschaffen. Dank ihrem Talent, persönliche Texte mit einem schrägen Sound zu verbinden, ist ihre durch David Lynch geprägte Welt frei und unheimlich. Alles scheint vertraut, eine Melodie plätschert durch eine alte Traumlandschaft, und doch ist etwas nicht in Ordnung. Die Band debütierte 2019 mit dem selbstproduzierten "Deborah", das von Pitchfork und Gorilla vs Bear gelobt wurde. Ihr temperamentvolles zweites Album "Bravo!" aus dem Jahr 2023 präsentierte einen mehr auf die erweiterte Live-Band ausgerichteten Sound. Inspiriert von Fleetwood Macs Tusk-Ära schlugen Sorry Girls ihr Lager für mehrere Monate im Two Sisters Recording Studio in Montreal auf, um "Dreamwalker" aufzunehmen. Da die Zeit knapp bemessen war, wollten sie mehr mit den Livemusikern zusammenarbeiten und schnelle und entschiedene künstlerische Entscheidungen treffen, um der Musik so treu wie möglich zu bleiben. Das Ergebnis ist ein Sound, der ernsthaft, emotional und klar ist. Verwaschene Produktionstechniken und druckvolle Basslinien paaren sich mit sanfteren, skurrilen Klaviertrillern und entspannten Drums, die das thematische Hin und Her zwischen zwei Welten wiedergeben. Die Texte spielen mit idyllischen Visionen von Liebesobjekten, Fantasien von zukünftigen Utopien und der obsessiven Sehnsucht nach einer Leichtigkeit und Neuheit, die sich durchsetzt. "Dreamwalker" ist selbstbewusst und ironisch selbstbescheiden, gefangen in der Spiegelung eines Fensters. Michiru OSHIMA is a prolific composer, arranger, conductor and lyricist, she started her career in background music for NHK (Japanese television) and movies. Her career is punctuated with participations and arrangements for major video games such as Ico (Playstation) or The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo). But it is in animation that she writes her most emblematic compositions. She is at the origin of the music of the famous series Full Metal Alchemist, of 2 parts of Star Wars: Visions (The Elder, The Twins) among others.

DO call it a comeback! Nach nicht weniger als 22 Jahren veröffentlichen die Wiener Beat-Maestros Urbs & Cutex wie aus heiterem Himmel ihr drittes Album namens "On Our Way". Die beiden Veteranen zeigen sich bestens aufgelegt und schaffen es auf diesem Überraschungspaket mühelos dort anzuschließen, wo sie vor zwei Jahrzehnten aufgehört haben. Sie bleiben sich selbst treu, finden aber auch neue Wege ihren sehr persönlichen Stil weiterzuentwickeln und HipHop und Downtempo auf eigenständige Weise zu verschmelzen. Urbs & Cutex (der auch unter Cut Ex firmiert) sind ein Produzenten-Duo aus Wien, das sich auf entspannte Instrumentalmusik spezialisiert und klassischen East Coast HipHop mit Elementen von Triphop und Downtempo verbindet. Beide begannen Anfang der 90er Jahre als DJs und machten ihre ersten Schritte als Produzenten unabhängig voneinander, um später eine der interessantesten Gruppen der florierenden Wiener Elektronik-Szene zu formen. Zwei gefeierte Alben wurden damals veröffentlicht und noch heute werden ihre Songs von immer neuen Generationen entdeckt, was zu Millionen Aufrufen auf den bekannten Streaming-Plattformen führt. Nach 22 Jahren, diversen Solo-Alben (u.a. Urbs' "Toujours Le Meme Film" und "Geheimland"), unzähligen Singles, Remixes und Kollaborationen, haben sie also beschlossen, wieder zusammenzuarbeiten und dabei ihr Mojo sofort wiedergefunden. Mit charmanter Sturheit produzieren Urbs & Cutex weiterhin Musik, die manche als retro, andere als zeitlos bezeichnen werden. "Wir suchen nach immerwährenden Wahrheiten" bemerken sie dazu achselzuckend. Das Album beginnt daher ganz im Stil ihres letzten Albums "Peace Talks!". Soul- und Jazz-Loops werden mit dopen Beats kombiniert und man wird sogar mit dem ersten Rap-Part überrascht, der es jemals auf ihre Alben geschafft hat: T.R.A.C. aus New York, bekannt als MC von Marc Macs Visioneers, unzähligen Drum&Bass Releases und nicht zuletzt Urbs´ Solo-Alben, glänzt auf der ersten Single "Wherever You Are". Nach einigen Songs lässt sich feststellen, daß Urbs & Cutex ihren Sound aber sehr wohl subtil weiterentwickelt haben. Durch gefinkelte Arrangements und gekonntes Übereinanderschichten von Samples wird eine dichte Atmosphäre geschaffen, die weit über das hinausgeht, was Boombap üblicherweise bietet. Urbs & Cutex schaffen es auf diesen 14 Songs die Fadesse von Chillout, Lofi und Boombap zu umgehen und bauen einen Spannungsbogen, der von uplifting bis deep und hypnotisch reicht.

Dropping the needle onto each Albion Collective release reveals a labyrinth of unique, experimental dubstep styles lauded for both their success in DJ sets and original sonic visions. Holding these pillars of pioneering creativity close to its heart, the new branch of Albion Collective intensifies its focus on moving people. No song could better exemplify the Gold catalogue’s dancefloor-igniting mission statement than Adel Force’s full-throttle opening track, Is This What You Want.

The Twirl EP vinyl, like all of the Gold releases to follow, is hand-stamped, numbered, and features a gold embossed logo. Following the DIY, hand-painted aesthetic, splashes of gold make each sleeve as distinct and unique as the music it cloaks. Albion Collective are proud to work with Adel Force on their debut release and bring you Twirl, the first EP of the Gold catalogue.

The songwriter Joseph Allred is always prolific, but breaks up their string of solo releases for one of the most orchestrated offerings since the excellent Branches And Trees. Allred’s often monastic guitar works are fleshed out here on Old Time Fantasias, turning them towards ensemble visions of country, Americana, and Appalachia. Album opener, “The Groundhog,” features the distinctive piano of Hans Chew, with bass from Daniel Kimbro and brass from Mikey Allred. Elsewhere the new album features Kelby Clark, Courtney Werner (Magic Tuber String Band), Evan Morgan (Magic Tuber String Band), Lydian Bramblia, and Jack Bird in the mix. “I started recording this album in Spring ‘23, thinking I might be making a mostly solo acoustic album with a couple of duets thrown in for good measure. I met Hans Chew at a Nashville show a few months earlier and sent him a few tracks to see if he wanted to add anything to them. Before long the ‘solo acoustic album’ had given way to what’s probably the most involved and densely orchestrated album I’ve made to date. “I enjoyed following some threads of influence that aren’t as easily discernible in my solo playing—I hear some classic country and psychedelic flourishes, baroque pop glockenspiel and horns, percussion ideas that may be cribbed from Danny Elfman and Tom Waits albums, nods to post-rock-filtered western guitar twang, and a little Cocteau Twins dreaminess. “All in all this was a satisfying record to make. I’m especially grateful to the collaborators for adding their touches and making it a less solipsistic affair than it would have been otherwise. The political climate has changed so much over the last two years that I find it hard to imagine I could make a record with this kind of fantastic mood if I started now. I hope that it can maybe re-enchant those of us who are felling disillusioned.” —Joseph Allred

Polar Bear's groundbreaking debut 'Dim Lit' (2004) is being released on vinyl for the first time, marking over two decades since its arrival reshaped the UK jazz landscape

Led by drummer and composer Seb Rochford, the album introduced a band whose fearless approach to improvisation, rhythm, and texture would go on to influence a generation. Blending raw energy with intricate composition, 'Dim Lit' set the blueprint for Polar Bear's signature sound - expansive, unpredictable, and entirely their own.

From the outset, 'Dim Lit' positioned Polar Bear as one of the most forward-thinking groups of their time. Oslo-based label Boring Crew Records (BCR) makes its vinyl debut with the Prærien EP. The EP showcases the label’s diverse range and vision, with six tracks that span various moods and genres, setting the stage for what’s to come.

BCR01 kicks off with Oasen by Anders Hajem, a dark and chugging track. The title track, Prærien, seamlessly picks up where Oasen left off, delving deeper into the atmosphere with a hypnotic bassline and subtle tension. Perkules rounds off the A-side with his Oasen remix, stripping it down into a raw, minimal version with a heavy(!) bottom-end.

On the B-side, Henrik Villard’s Cowgirl hits hard with raw and gritty drums, with a touch of dubbed-out vocals. Woodfall Temple follows, enveloping listeners in its tribal and slight meditative energy. Canadian producer Cooper Saver then closes the EP with his mesmerizing remix of Woodfall Temple, ramping up the tempo with layered synth lines that create an irresistible, trance-like atmosphere.

Acclaimed director and musician Jim Jarmusch and experimental lute player and composer Jozef van Wissem met nearly 20 years ago, forming a close bond after they ran into each other on the streets of New York City. In 2011, they began performing and producing records together. The follow up to “American Landscapes “ entitled “ The Day The Angels Cried” releases June 6 and coincides with a world tour. The duo weaves an intricate Lute and guitar string tapestry of droning, minimal free-folk compositions destined to captivate listeners with their dark hypnosis. This time vocals and electronics are added as well. Van Wissem’s work comes from a tradition of avant-garde minimalism and lends itself well to the director’s stark cinematic works. Jarmusch has played guitar in bands on and off since the late ‘70s. Van Wissem’s compositional style involves hypnotic circular musical phrases that allow for a lot of contemplative space between the notes. Their first live performance was in Issue Project Room in Brooklyn in October 2011, where they appeared together for a Van Wissem curated concert program called “New Music for Early Instruments.” The idea for their first album, Concerning the Entrance Into Eternity (Important Records) developed from their live performance. Jarmusch has said that he considers these songs as Van Wissem’s compositions, and sees himself as someone filling in the background to Jozef ’s foreground, like the “scenic” on a film shoot, the one who paints the backdrops. “The sound of the lute is as bright as the sun, a beautiful red color and my stuff sounds sort of like the moon, more like blue, like mercury.” .According to Van Wissem: We started with layers of instrumental parts.. Jim recorded a otherworldly Passerelle bridge guitar part to which we added vocals. This became the title track " The Day The Angels Cried" The lyrics for this song came to me during a vision I had in a dream. It was much like a vision Swedenborg writes about. In it he converses with angels. In my vision the angel looked down from the heavens upon the earth engulfed in flames. For the third release on DIG Curated, Marron steps in to present a trailblazer in Tbilisi's underground scene - Irakli Bregvadze aka Uvall. He is known for groove-driven, high-energy techno, emerging from the heart of Georgia's electronic music movement, where the mantra "We dance together, we fight together" symbolises a commitment to unity and resistance. His production style - a potent fusion of hypnotic rhythms and raw intensity - is designed for big-room club spaces, capturing dancers in an immersive experience throughout. Uvall's magnetic sound lies in touching all elements while never failing to keep the minimalism as intriguing as it is mysterious. His undulating rhythms, draped with enigmatic synths, work seamlessly at both faster and slower tempos, keeping the tracks deeply captivating.

With Northern Lights' heavy pulsations that control and mold the listener, it becomes clear why Marron-who has been consistently curating the steamiest dancefloors-would choose to present Uvall's music as a precious discovery. Both artists seem to be born under similar stars, living and breathing the social movement that techno is, standing up for freedom of expression and border-transcending values.

Akte is a series of events at the renowned Club Gewölbe to keep the vision of timeless Ambient, Minimal and Techno in Cologne alive and is now expanding to develop a record label.

The first release will be a 12" EP by founder Philipp Stoffel featuring 4 originals and a remix by living legend .VRIL. A modern interpretation of techno with strong dub influences, produced in different styles and put together to form a meaningful listening journey. Akte pursues an EP concept away from pure techno tools towards the idea of packing the diverse listening experience of an LP into an EP, striving for a texturally cohesive aural aesthetic.

Mastering engineer Stefan Betke, also known as Pole, gave the record its sonic polish. The EP is rounded off by the grainy cover design by Berlin-based artist Friedrich Breidenich, which visually captures the sonic aesthetic and translates the listening experience into a striking visual form.

I must admit to being a sucker for two-guitar bands. Ok, Hendrix pulled off a trio. But I don’t care what anybody says: The Yardbirds were a better band than anything that came out of them (Ok, maybe not Zep. But Cream?).

Maybe the reason I go back so far in my references is that, within the two-guitar band format, original new roles are difficult and rare. There’s the classic (socially problematic and often boring) “rhythm/lead” solution. There’s the JB’s or Nile Rodgers’ chicken pickin’ vs comping solution (which avoids chordal clashes by relegating one of the guitars to the role of single-note percussion instrument). There’s Ornette’s Prime Time division between Bern Nix’s rolled-off “jazz” tone and Charles Ellerbee’s trebly wah. Almost everything else is a variation on one of these.


In Ches Smith’s record Clone Row, each piece is built around a different concept for guitar interaction. The delightful and gifted weirdness of Mary Halvorson’s playing is counterpointed, contrasted, unisoned with, played off, juxtaposed (that is to say, enters every relationship possible) with Liberty Ellman’s equally amazing sound palette, chops, and imagination. This definitely ain’t your father’s guitar band.
The overall vibe of the record—despite Halvorson’s occasional noise outbursts or Ellman’s distorted guitar lines (see Mixed Fridge) is neither punk/funk, nor Zorn-ish metal—and certainly not the looser parameters of Ornette’s improvised harmolodics. Smith’s vibraphone playing, Halvorson’s guitar tone (whammy pedal squiggles aside), the brilliant electronics, and (most of all) the compositions themselves are somehow strangely West Coast cool. It’s as if I’m hearing a Jim Hall concert in which one of us did a lot of mushrooms, or (dare I write this?) some post-punk post-Dave Brubeck post-trip-hop experiment with classical form.

This recording is, most of all, about Ches as composer. He’s picked up a lot on his long, strange trip of the last few decades. The Haitian funkiness of his work with We All Break is audible—but deeply buried, encoded in the polyrhythms (check out Heart Breakthrough). His long-running side musician collaborations with John Zorn and Tim Berne are also evident but sublimated here into something new.

Not that improvising is absent. Check out the compelling collective statements in Sustained Nightmare and Ready Beat. Check out the brilliant interplay and bass soloing on Abrade With Me (a Weather Report for the age of extreme weather?) Nick Dunston is my favorite bassist of the new generation, and he plays brilliantly throughout. And Ches’ drumming here has all the groove, energy, and incredible range that have kept him in demand from Saturday night Vodou services to jazz and new music recording sessions (…the thinking man’s rock barbarian?).
The sus chords in Abrade With Me do build, for a moment, towards a fusion type of climax...but just at the moment I was gritting my teeth in anticipated defense against some horrible synth solo, the drums drop out, and we’re transported to the ambient lounge at the rave, and we suddenly understand we’re in the hands of a composer with the power to transport us just about anywhere.
So, this is a composer’s record most of all; a composer’s record performed by musicians who happen to be great improvisers. Ches Smith builds here on his reputation as a gifted new voice with an important vision, while showcasing some of the most creative musicians of our time.

Chapter Music's landmark collection of Australian 70s-80s post- punk, originally released in 2001, gets its first ever vinyl release!
Can’t Stop It! documents a fantastically inventive and dynamic era, when Australian acts stepped out of the shadow of overseas influence and asserted their own musical identity for perhaps the first time.
Featuring tracks by future members of bands such as Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Einsturzende Neubauten, Dirty Three and The Go- Betweens, Can’t Stop It! is a vivid survey of the creativity and innovation bubbling away under the surface of Australia’s fairly unadventurous music culture of the time.

Following the success of his debut album Echoes of Prayer - featuring singles like Communicate, Calm Waters, and Silent Chaos - Ghanaian-Dutch artist Bnnyhunna announces the album's first-ever vinyl release, set for May 30, 2025, via the renowned Belgian label Sdban Ultra.

Originally released digitally in October 2024, Echoes of Prayer stands as a deeply personal and spiritual work that reflects Bnnyhunna's faith, his early experiences growing up in church, and his West African heritage. Every track on the album serves as a form of prayer, a conversation with God. The album showcases his ability to weave poetic lyrics, vivid visuals, and captivating melodies, creating an immersive experience that resonates on a spiritual and emotional level.

Bnnyhunna's signature fusion of jazz, hip-hop, gospel, and Afro rhythms highlights his versatility and musical integrity. Next to the the warm jazz textures of Calm Waters, the vibrant Afrobeat pulse of Communicate, and the soulful, piano-driven Silent Chaos, Echoes of Prayer also blends elements of '70s P-Funk grooves, gospel harmonies, and modern hip-hop rhythms. These past four years, Peppe Maiellano—the band's composer and mastermind—has further refined his unique Mediterranean sound. A deep connection to Italian and Neapolitan roots remains, as evidenced in the heartfelt cover of Peppino di Capri's 1981 track, "Mo…" on Side A. Maiellano keeps things simple, staying faithful to the original, yet manages to freshen the track for today's listeners, making the lyrics resonate with his compelling vocal rendition.

But Maiellano has also embraced new influences, particularly Brazilian music, as showcased in the infectious "(Roda De) Samba Maje" on Side B. This roda-de-samba version of the upcoming album track "Samba Maje," a collaboration with the Amor Pela Roda group featuring Antonio Montuori on percussion and Pasquale Del Solio on cavaquinho, gives us a taste of Maiellano's vision for Costa Sud—a 'music of the South' that transcends geographical and time boundaries, bridging Italy, Brazil, Africa, and contemporary vibes.

Library of the Occult Records unviels ‘Music to Accompany the Poems of Edgar Allan Poe’ a haunting double LP that threads the legendary poet’s dark romanticism through the minds of some of the most evocative contemporary electronic artists.
The Library’s ever-expanding circle now united as the Library of the Occult Electronic Orchestra, bring their own haunted visions to Poe’s bleak and beautiful world. Ivan The Tolerable stretches krautrock pulses and experimental noise into something hypnotic and strange, while The Heartwood Institute channels vintage occult nostalgia. Sermons by the Devil drapes everything in a ritualistic haze and Klaus Morlock, ever the maestro of unease, paints in slow-moving shadows, melancholic, cinematic, and tinged with the surreal. It’s a record for twilight listening, flickering candles, and the spaces between.

Born from a desire to explore her background in film composing to create a music film, Hannah Holland’s upcoming album 'Last Exit On Bethnal’ is set for release via PRAH Recordings on 18th July. Together with director Lydia Garnett, the multi-faceted London producer shaped ideas born out of images the pair weren’t finding in film, inspired by queer icon filmmakers like Kenneth Anger and Derek Jarman. “We wanted to craft something unapologetically for dykes: a poetic, surreal exploration of dyke power and sexuality set in a fantasy underworld,” explains Holland. Once the film was shot, she channelled its stunning imagery and the energy of the cast into making the record. Seductive and bass-driven, its nine tracks merge sleazy guitars with 707 machine drums, beautiful evolving arps, and surreal moments of Lynchian dreaminess and Aphex Twin-inspired atmospherics. "It was a really amazing collaborative experience and coming together of a community to make something totally unique….and hot!” she continues. The first single ‘Biker’ features a filthy synth hook atop Hannah’s signature bass-guitar, perfectly capturing the raw and sexy energy of the album and its visual centrepiece. You can listen to it here. The film will be screened at a one-off club night at London’s ICA on 11th April in association with Culture Divided, Somesuch and Bala Project.

Hannah Holland has played a pivotal role in London’s alternative and queer London club scene since the mid-noughties. Rooted deeply in London’s fertile musical community, musical exploration and the transcendent potential of dancefloor have always been her biggest inspiration. Her recent delve into experimental theatre, film and TV scores has proved a future further artistic voyage to explore her creative vision. Holland first arrived on dancefloors sharing electro-tinged techno, with equal inspiration taken from the sounds of DnB and jungle heard at legendary parties such as Metalheadz, which she had frequented in her early teens. Having already been “borrowing” (and perhaps never since returning) Kraftwerk, Grace Jones and Talking Heads records from her parents, the influence of this metropolitan musical soup ensured that Holland emerged on the decks with a unique musical character and diverse taste, hallmarks of her sound that she has not lost since. This has been reinforced with trusted residencies at iconic parties such as Trailer Trash, Adonis, Glastonbury’s NYC Downlow, or undertaking far-reaching marathon sets at Berlin’s Panorama Bar. In 2006 Hannah started Batty Bass with vocalist Mama. Immediately a roadblock party and then a record label with releases from Josh Caffe and The Carry Nation sitting in its discography, Batty Bass explores the disparate strains of electro, acid, techno and house. Hannah also released her own music on the label including the ever-anthemic Paris’ Acid Ball.

A steady stream of releases have followed on Shall Not Fade, Super Rhythm Trax, Crosstown Rebels, Classic, Nervous, as well as remixes for Blessed Madonna ft. Kylie Minogue, Planningtorock, The Knife and Goldfrapp among others. Hannah also finds the time to play bass in several bands including Black Gold Buffalo whose debut album she also co-wrote. Her much-anticipated debut album, Tectonic, came out on PRAH Recordings in 2021, with a second on the way. Hannah’s latest venture into the world of film scores have included queer icon Bruce LaBruce’s ‘The Visitor,’ Channel 4 series Adult Material and award-winning indie feature Electrician.

Zehn Jahre später geht diese Jubiläumsausgabe anders vor als diese anderen Schätze. Im März 2015 veröffentlichte Sufjan Stevens Carrie & Lowell - sein bisher persönlichstes Album. Das mit einer unerwartet klaren Vision präsentierte Album war eine Rückkehr zu Sufjans Folk-Wurzeln und zeichnete sich durch eine bewusste, sparsame Instrumentierung aus. Das Album war ein sofortiger Erfolg bei den Kritikern, und in den folgenden Jahren sollte sich die Musik unaufhaltsam in unsere Kultur einweben. Diese Deluxe-Edition enthält ein erweitertes Doppel-LP-Album mit sieben bisher unveröffentlichten Bonustracks, einem 40-seitigen Kunstbuch und einem neuen Essay von Sufjan. Diese Ausgabe bietet außerdem ein alternatives Cover: eine gerahmte Version des Original-Polaroids, das herausgezoomt wurde, um die in Kinderhandschrift geschriebene Bildunterschrift "Carrie & Lowell" zu zeigen, die den Ursprung des Albumtitels verrät (sie wurde von Sufjans Schwester Djamilah geschrieben). Das von Sufjan gestaltete 40-seitige Booklet enthält verschiedene Collagen alter Familienfotos aus vier Generationen, die mit Kunstwerken und Zeichnungen (zu den Themen Tod, Sterben, Trauer und dem Bundesstaat Oregon) sowie mit Landschaftsaufnahmen kombiniert wurden, die Sufjan vor über zehn Jahren auf einer Reise durch den Westen der USA gemacht hat. Das Originalalbum ist auf der ersten Disc, während die zweite Disc 40 Minuten an Extras enthält, darunter Demo-Versionen von "Death With Dignity", "Should Have Known Better", "The Only Thing" und "Eugene". Ausgedehnte Outtakes von 'Fourth of July' und 'Wallowa Lake Monster' sind ebenfalls enthalten, beide mit einer eher filmischen Stimmung. Das letzte Juwel ist das Original-Demo von "Mystery of Love", das von den ursprünglichen Carrie & Lowell-Albumsessions stammt, aber später für Luca Guadagninos Film "Call Me By Your Name" überarbeitet und neu aufgenommen wurde. Die vorliegende Demoversion enthält Sologitarre und Gesang mit leicht verändertem Text. "Carrie & Lowell" war das Ergebnis eines immens schwierigen Prozesses, in dem Sufjans Songwriting ihn nach dem Tod seiner Mutter im Stich ließ. Die seltene Übergabe der Produktionsaufgaben an Thomas Bartlett führte ihn schließlich aus einem Kreislauf kreativer Zweifel heraus. Im Ringen mit Dunkelheit und Verwüstung, Leben und Tod konnte Sufjan schließlich beginnen, der Schönheit und Hässlichkeit der Liebe einen Sinn zu geben. Sufjan ging mit dem Album auf Tournee und brachte seine Erkenntnisse persönlich mit seinen Zuhörern in Verbindung, so dass es zu einer Art Übergabe kam - die Songs wurden zu denen der Zuhörer und deren Leben, Verluste und Komplexität. Nach der Veröffentlichung des Albums wurde die Live-Tournee in ein Live-Album umgewandelt, das so überraschend feierlich und kathartisch ist, dass es zu etwas ganz anderem wird. Outtakes, Remixe und iPhone-Notizen wurden auf Sufjans "The Greatest Gift"-Mixtape veröffentlicht, ebenso wie eine Sammlung von "Fourth of July"-Versionen, die einen Moment des Albums aufgriffen und jede seiner Ecken und Kanten ausloteten. Zehn Jahre später geht diese Jubiläumsausgabe anders vor als diese anderen Schätze. Swans kehren mit 'Birthing' zurück, dem neuesten Album, das im Laufe einer einjährigen Tournee 2023-2024 entstand.

'Birthing' wird über Mute und Young God Records veröffentlicht. Die Erstpressungen der Deluxe-Vinyl und CD enthalten eine Bonus-DVD mit Swans Live 2024 (Rope) The Beggar, einem Konzertfilm von Marco Porsia, der die letzte US-Tour der Band dokumentiert. Die DVD enthält außerdem 'I Wonder If I'm Singing What You're Thinking Me To Sing', eine Dokumentation von Christopher Nicholson über Michael Gira's Solotournee 2022.

'Birthing', das durch unerbittliche Improvisation und Live-Performance sowie neu komponierte Studiostücke verfeinert wurde, ist ein Zeugnis von Michael Giras kompromissloser klanglicher Vision. Die Songs, die als akustische Kompositionen begannen, wurden im Studio mit langjährigen Live-Mitgliedern und Kollaborateuren schrittweise erweitert und transformiert.

Produziert von Gira, wurde 'Birthing' in der Soundfabrik Berlin aufgenommen, im Candy Bomber Studio von Ingo Krauss gemischt und von Doug Henderson bei Micro-Moose gemastert.

Zig Zags have been an L.A. institution for over a decade, never veering from their hard-riffin punk/metal mission statement. Cult cinema is an enduring Zig Zags inspiration, with the band frequently calling out exploitation films in their lyrics, odes to teen-delinquent classics like “Over the Edge” and dystopian sci-fi such as, “Terminator” and “Total Recall”. The new album sticks to this obsession with the cultural underground, riffing on everything from demonic minions to apocalyptic visions and alien attacks. The result is the most focused, intense, and catchy Zig Zags album yet, with the timing perfect for their distinctly melodic and maniacal call to arms. Gladio Operations closes 2024 with its tenth release, which bears the signature of the German producer Elektrotechnik.

This EP, entitled Kontrast, comprises three original tracks and two remixes. The A-side starts with Sigma, a rogue track with light trance touches and an appropriate psychedelic bass line. Russian producer Larionov returns to Gladio and gifts us his fantastic vision of Sigma, turning it into a more energetic piece destined exclusively for the hottest dancefloors. Side A ends with Kontrast, a track of aggressive rhythms and moulded with powerful dark textures.

On the B-side, we encounter Die Bestie, perhaps the most robust track and possessor of disturbing and tenebrous harmonies, an enigmatic journey with no return. The owners of the UHF label get back on track by creating remixes, being in charge of closing the EP, and offering us a deeper and more cosmic approach than the original track.

He is the president and one of the founding members of the ZBS Foundation (ZBS stands for Zero Bullshit), where the audio dramas written by Lopez himself were born. Dramatic programs with stories that blended noir, comedy and science-fiction genres such as Ruby The Galactic Gumshoe or Jack Flanders were produced to critic and public acclaim. It was in Ruby The Galactic Gumshoe that the Android Sisters, who would later have their own spin-off series, first appeared. The characters represent two robotic siblings that Tom Lopez created under big influence from Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the Philip K. Dick novel that was taken to cinema by Ridley Scott in Blade Runner. The Androids were performed by actresses Ruth Maleczech and Valeria Wasilewski.



The big success of these “cosmic and comic” sci-fi series, as they are described in the ZBS Foundations website, led to the releasing of cassette tapes, CDs, USBs and podcasting of the stories. Along with these, several music albums were also released in different formats. One of them is Songs Of Electric Despair, the first of two released by the Android Sisters. The songs contained are written by Tom Lopez and his long time collaborator experimental musician Tim Clark.



The Android Sisters Songs Of Electronic Despair LP was originally released as a ZBS Foundation cassette and also as a vinyl LP on Vanguard in 1984. It featured 11 compositions (two bonus tracks not on the original LP have been added to the Wah Wah reissue) on which the experimental synthesizer music of Tim Clark finds a perfect counterpoint in the deliciously surrealistic, cosmic social satire of Tom Lopez’s texts, magically performed by the robotic, yet sensual voices of the Android Sisters as performed by Maleczech and Wasilewski. Clark composed and performed the backing tracks on the Synclavier II synthesizer.



The Wah Wah reissue comes with two bonus tracks not on the original 1984 LP, respects the beautiful original album artwork and enhances it with a 4 pages full colour insert with notes and lyrics of the songs.
