Hot off the griddle, Cookin' The Books is the long awaited new album from Australia's kings of Hammond soul, Cookin' On 3 Burners. When Chuck D proclaimed "Bass, how low can you go?" on Public Enemy's anthemic 'Bring the Noise,' maybe he was pre-empting or inciting the 10,000 fathoms-deep, spine-bending basslines and sub-quake tremors of 'Implosion.'

Implosion is a crushing split album, appropriately released on The Bug's own PRESSURE label. Mapping out a new form of spectral dub, the sound is deliberately immersive, introverted, and yes, definitely implosive. In pursuit of heavy lids, blurred vision, and merciless bass bin punishment, it’s one part meditation, two parts low-end theory, and essentially a confession of devoted sound system addiction.

As expected from a tag team featuring British soundlab explorer and 'London Zoo' composer Kevin Martin, aka The Bug, and Michael Fiedler, aka Jah Schulz—a long-time graduate of Germany's new school of sound system reggae culture—the duo approaches their target differently yet share the goal of keeping their sound "raw" (Fiedler) and "brutally minimal" (Martin). This proves that opposites can attract, even if their tools are different and their methods sometimes diverge.

From such a disparate combo, hailing from different geographical and aesthetic backgrounds, contrasts are certainly on display, even within each artist's own contributions. From the melancholia and transcendence of 'Alien Virus (West Indian Centre, Leeds),' to the duality of ascension and descension on 'Hope,' or the Sunn 0))) in dub, visceral drone of 'Dread (The End, London),' to the tripped-out repetitions of 'Midnight,' which reinvents Chain Reaction for post-millennials, the result is both sacred and narcotic. Each track illuminates the emotional impact and atmospheric pressure being explored across this deceptively sparse album—a mastery of tone and texture.

This collection might be as reduced, minimal, and deep as The Bug has ever gone, perhaps echoing the solemnity of his recent Kevin Richard Martin Black release and invoking the futurist steppas self-pioneered on his previous Pressure album. Alternatively, Fiedler‘s Ghost Dubs project ventures into his most heavyweight direction yet, which is no mean feat considering his previous, the critically acclaimed album Damaged, was a monstrously massive triumph of analogue weight and enviable sound design.

Implosion is ice-cool, a stark contrast to the warmth and sociability of traditional Jamaican roots and the current trends in digi-dub. Instead, the mood is soaked in tension and intense dread, finding an unexpected melting point where classic dub's stark rhythm attack, isolationist ambience's eerie drift, dub techno's floatation strategies, and even the relentless riffs of doom metal collide. As the bass-obsessed pair drop what is arguably the heaviest ambient dub album to emerge from any electronic sector—a moody counterpoint to The Orb's fluffy clouds, etc, Martin has cited The Roots Radics, Black Jade, and On U Sound's Pounding System as heavily influencing his approach to the album, while Fiedler has expressed his admiration for Adrian Sherwood's productions and Rhythm & Sound's enchanting soundscape. Yet, the super heavyweight pulsations, emotive resonances, and bone-rattling vibrations detonated here effortlessly go far beyond these influences.

Shadowy and elusive, there’s a mysteriousness at this record's core. A haunting moodiness oscillating between nostalgia and future shock. Despite the deadly fixation with SLOW and HEAVY, the album maintains a totally hypnotic swing throughout. Implosion and its lead single 'Imploded Versions' are testaments to being enveloped in bass, seduced by bass, submerged in bass, and utterly crushed by bass, as The Bug and Ghost Dubs seek to craft a new form of dub for zonal headz and Babylon seekers.

Mastered by Stefan Betke (a.k.a. POLE) at Scape Mastering studio, this record is heavy as f-ck without resorting to continuous distortion. It’s low-end worship taken to an absolute extreme, yet remains highly listenable and definitely danceable, albeit at the slowest of paces. Sacred and narcotic, this is low-end worship amplified to the max. Dive in if you dare.

2025 Repress

DJ Koze doesn't aim for technical perfection for its own sake, but rather to serve the purpose of giving birth to great music. On his debut 'Rue Burnout EP' from his own Pampa label, he plays with finesse and sophistication, and implicitly understands the importance of subtlety, leading from dreamy and restrained parts to a noisy frenzy at the end. 'Blume der Nacht' starts with a looped piano solo from Arabian dodecaphony, interwoven with bangs of violine bows, piercing high-pitched strings, almost shrieking glissandi, deep angel chants and obsessive sharp rhythms. The 37 year old constantly horny wunderkind producer has made a habit of creatively foiling expectations, and works also under the pseudonyms Adolf Noise, Swahimi and recently Madima Lokkah to redefine the boundaries of electronic music. This daring concept works perfectly in the title track 'Rue Burnout' - it is very rare that you find house music this excitingly light-fooded and precisely transparent. The musician cuts the pigtail off the term 'Kackmusik' for good, and demonstrates how sounds are capable of creating the most delicate musical interplay.

Eurovision is a new Icelandic electro supergroup that channels the coldness of their homeland into these icy and futuristic new cuts on Helena Hauff's Return to Disorder, all with hints of masters of the form like Dopplereffekt. 'Driving To Burgertown' begins with a whirring of machine madness, squelchy lines, trippy melodic cascades and snappy drum breaks. 'Animal Flow' then layers up sheet metal textures with dark and dehumanised vocals to make for a gritty post-punk vibe. 'Lunar Cycling' has a happier energy thanks to the crystalline arps up top and the snappier, surging kicks. Last of all is 'Neurolab,' a Kraftwerkian style banger laced up with layers of busy synth progressions.

Following releases on Longform Editions and her own Paralaxe imprint, Dania descends on Somewhere Press with crepuscular, quixotic pop that hits a sweet spot between Mark Clifford’s Cocteau Twins remixes and Massive Attack.

Parked next to Alliyah Enyo, Slowfoam, and Angel R, Dania’s found an ideal home at Somewhere Press, and »Listless« is her most confident, transcendent set to date. Her last few albums were steeped in meaning – a way for the Iraq-born, Tasmania-raised artist to explore her identity and probe the impacts of colonisation. Here, she gives herself more room to breathe, thriving in the mysteries of nighttime – a direct reference to her nocturnal existence as an emergency doctor in Australia. The album was completely composed in the midnight hours, but it’s not self-consciously dark in the way you might expect. Opening track »On a Grassy Knoll« is one of the prettiest – and poppiest – tracks Dania has released, cracking open her voice with thrumming harmonies that she complements with granulated, Guthrie-esque guitars and, most unexpectedly, half-speed drums. It’s the first time Dania’s used percussion, and it suits her extremely well.

In fact, even when the powdery breaks drop away in the album’s final breaths, you can almost hear an outline of where they might remain. On »Write My Name«, Dania loops her voice between waved strings and slippery piano phrases, and the hypnotic closer »A Hunger« is a thudding, sub-heavy 4/4 away from being Peak Oil-style contemporary dub techno.

But the big draw here is Dania’s batch of hazy dream-pop miniatures, like the Seefeel-adjacent »Heart Shaped Burn« (with Rupert Clervaux on drums), and the Bristolian »Car Crash Premonition«, that features a rolling bassline taking us right back to 1998. Very strong – peak listening if you’re into Bowery Electric, MBV, or Mark Van Hoen.

Cindy Lee, the performance and songwriting vehicle of Canadian artist Patrick Flegel (who fronted influential indie group Women earlier), previously stunned listeners with Act Of Tenderness, a heart-wrenching statement informed by the noirish core of celebrity, and has continued to enchant with every album, including the startling What's Tonight To Eternity released earlier this year.

Model Express originally appeared as a self-released edition of 100 gold cassettes. The arch, filmic drama of Cindy Lee's songwriting – realized with keyboards, guitars, aching voice and collaged, lo-fi production – traverses a wide range of emotional and sonic terrain. The red velvet psych-pop of "What Can I Do" gives way to the fluid "Diamond Ring" like radio bursts from space. Model Express finds Flegel at both their most experimental and immediately melodic, and this first-time vinyl release recognizes the collected tracks as a pillar in the Cindy Lee catalogue.

Cindy Lee (who uses the gender neutral pronoun they) is a drag persona drawing on suburban closet queens and mid-century divas. In keeping with Flegel's interest in the faultlines of identity, gender expression, performance and media, Model Express delivers an intense and diverse set of unforgettable songs.

This Transition's label album features the concert that Donald Byrd Sextet gave in Detroit on August 23th, 1955 organized by the New Jazz Society, a group formed under the impetus of Kenny Burrell, one of the key influences in Detroit jazz.


The reissue of this hard-to-find album is significant for a number of diferent reasons. Its very rarity is one attraction for certain collectors, but more important perhaps is the fact that it was the first recording as featured artist for trumpeter Donald Byrd. It is also extremely revealing of the depth of the jazz scene in 1950s Detroit, which had nurtured Byrd and from which he was just emerging at the time of this concert.

Just one year and 13 days after their critically acclaimed debut Colorful White Lies, Bergen- based rock band Electric High return with their second album Free to Go. While the debut was a manifestation of the band's first five years of existence, Free to Go is quite the opposite: written, rehearsed and recorded at breakneck speed, the album bursts with freshness, spontaneity and raw energy. Not a studio project, Morbikon spent 6 weeks on the road promoting their debut album “Ov Mournful Twilight” (2022) along side internationally notable extreme metal acts Exhumed and Skeletal Remains. Morbikon also crushed performances at The Decibel Magazine Beer and Metal Fest (in both Philadelphia and Denver) and the Milwaukee Metal Fest.

The Best of the Black President is the 13 track guide to Fela Kuti’s massive and manifold creative career. A shapeshifting maverick exploring Britain's diverse musical traditions, from rough music to industrial folk, free jazz to dub, post-punk to avant-rock, incorporating ambient electronics, hymns and noise. Having worked with pioneering arts company Welfare State International, Tim’s performed inside Stonehenge, on the back of trucks at Notting Hill Carnival, leading giants through the streets of London, Dublin and Galway, at Olympic Torch events, celebratory feasts and leading humanist funerals. Tim is also festival director for The Sound of the Streets, a charity promoting outdoor music and musical director of the Wye Valley River Festival where he helps street bands across the country including The Big Noise in Taunton and Horns of Plenty in Oxford.

Leviathan Whispers is a spectral, contemplative selection of Tim's recorded work, including material created for art installations, outdoor projects, solo performances and personal meditations. Inspired by landscape and the eternal pull of Blake's Albion, baritone, alto and soprano saxophones are mixed with tape loops, old synths, recycled live recordings, woodwinds and reeds. Other sounds are processed by Colin Potter (Nurse With Wound) and drone artist Jonathan Coleclough. Back in 2023, I picked up a record by Jacob Dwyer — I was completely captivated. His lyrics weren’t just words; they were portals. I had to track him down. After some digging, I made contact — and asked him if he would like to collaborate with me.

He said yes.

Fast forward through months of back-and-forth, and then it landed — in my inbox — Tom’s House: a one-hour audio-drama written and performed by the incomparable Jacob Dwyer. It’s a hypnotic, surreal journey through the mind of someone returning home after 15 years — disorienting, poetic, and fully immersive.

To accompany this masterwork, I put together my take on Canon HF10 — 12 minutes of deep, rolling tech grooves, bouncing acid basslines, freaked-out synths, and lyrical gold. (“He demanded a fried egg sandwich…”)

Flip to the B-side and things get wild with The Baby Legit Upside Down — a full-tilt burner packed with razor-sharp 808 electro/techno drums, squelchy 101 bass stabs, swirling pads, and an evolving sub that’ll shake the foundations. Dwyer’s voice threads through the chaos with uncanny flair — bizarre, brilliant, unforgettable. The title means what it says.

We close the EP with Red Flowers — slowing the tempo, diving into squelchy breaks and textural weirdness, as Jacob drops in snippets of conversation with his sister, alongside more sharp, off-kilter reflections on Tom’s House.

Dekmantel welcomes Theo Kottis back for his second release on the label - three high-impact club tracks plus a remix from rising star Spray. Following Lighthouse - named “song of the summer” by Resident Advisor - Blue Supermoon carries the same melodic punch, rhythmic drive - and it’s already lighting up some of the world’s most treasured dancefloors.

The title track has been circulating for over a year, with early support from Batu, Call Super, Francesco Del Garda and Ben UFO and plays at Houghton, fabric and beyond. It’s a swirling, tension-loaded cut where pads and an arpeggiated topline intertwine over a weighty, driving bassline, underpinned by intricately layered percussion - the kind of track that stays with you.

What To Do was inspired by a night out at fabric’s 25th birthday party, linking back to Kottis’ recent release on fabric Records. Hyper aims for big-room euphoria, with a towering build-up and hands-in-the-air release. Spray closes the EP with a shimmering, progressive-leaning take on Hyper, adding his signature slow-burn tension and widescreen energy.

DarkSonicTales is a project by Rolf Gisler and his eponymous album his first for Hallow Ground. Having been granted an artist residency by the label in a 300 year-old farm house in the Swiss countryside in autumn 2019, the Lucerne-based musician and sound artist explored the peculiar sonic environment of the building and its surroundings through the use of field recordings, modular synthesizers, guitar, bass, kalimbas, a singing saw as well as self-built instruments. "DarkSonicTales" starts with kalimba sounds and field recordings, setting the stage for "Sonic Darkness"- a self-referential spoken word piece whose sinister jazz-like sound calls to mind Bohren & der Club of Gore. The following "Spring Feelings" contrasts insect sounds with harsh noise elements, elegiac drones and a throbbing rhythm. It's not quite what you'd expect from a piece with such a title, but the stories that Gisler tells throughout the record are more concerned with uncovering the hidden histories underneath what meets the eyes than (re-)creating idylls. The nine minute-long "I Still Believe" further underlines that by bringing together glistening synthesizer notes with industrial-like drones and field recordings that give it a palpable effect before Gisler unexpectedly changes course and quite literally bursts into song. Towards the end of "DarkSonicTales," the music becomes notably more minimalistic. Gisler experiments with the dynamics of modular drones on "Kind of Restless," juxtaposing birdsong and ominous electronic noises on "Best Buddies" before a mid-tempo beat emerges, making the record close on a decidedly hopeful note. These dark sonic tales, they have a happy ending. "DarkSonicTales" is an organic album in more than one sense of the word. Reacting to and reflecting the world around him as well as expressing his inner one, Gisler gives the sounds at the core of his multifaceted compositions space and lets them breathe. Working along stark contrasts and with surprising twists, he also shines a light on the atmospheric and emotional ambiguity of the world he encountered during his solitary artist residency-unearthing the hidden layers underneath what is perceivable.

Welcome to the colourful world of Tiombé Lockhart, where post-modern soul meets dub lullabies and much more. In this second album for Mother Tongue she explores more experimental sides of her sophisticated musical palette. Opening track Kali Ma bursts with heavy drums and Tiombé’s signature vocal layers, setting the tone with energy and distinction. Previous single An Osirian Dream is paired with another collaboration with Georgia Anne Muldrow, Strange Things, where dub tones collide with a melancholic soul narrative. The futuristic R’n’B of I Divine meets the head-nodding paradise of Be Good To Me, sewing a rich tapestry of exquisite vocal layers. Get lost in this accomplished voyage into the mind, heart, and spirit of a truly unique artist.

Four late-night burners from Francesco Carvetta, marking the second chapter of Lirica White Series. Deep, hypnotic, and spiked with a dark funky twist, this is music designed for dancefloors that thrive past the witching hour.

Torque and tension drive “Larch (Acid Mix)”, its 303 lines spitting early-2000s bite through a continuous escalation of energy and unexpected turns. “503” heads into progressive territory, sleek, propulsive, and subtly echoing a bygone era without ever lapsing into nostalgia.

On the flip, “Supaline” takes a more playful route: a wobbling bassline underpins restless synth chatter, shaping a groove in constant motion. Closing with depth, “That Wakes Me” unfolds like a cinematic trip, atmospheric and tinged with melancholy, yet never cold, leaving the record suspended in late-night resonance.

With no musical background and without ever having performed in public, Zelmani rose to the top of the charts in 1995
with her self-titled debut album. Until now, she has released up to fifteen albums and was described as Sweden's answer to
Norah Jones. In 2005 she released A Decade Of Dreams 1995-2005, a compilation album featuring both fan favourites and her
personal favourite tracks of the decade.

This double LP features 18 tracks including “Going Home” and “Dreamer” and eventually reached #2 in the Swedish album charts.

Season of The Dead is a visceral, cinematic extreme metal project born from the twisted minds of Titta Tani (former drummer of Necrophagia and Goblin), Giacomo Anselmi (former Goblin guitarist and current member of Goblin Legacy), and Enrico Giannone, founder and owner of Time To Kill Records, acting as producer and visionary behind the entire concept. Los Angeles artist and musician Shlohmo returns with a vinyl repress of two of his defining albums: "Bad Vibes" and "The End". From the first sounds of Henry Laufer"s early work, it was clear he was forging a new path in electronic music - melding hazy textures, emotive melodies, and fractured beats into a sound both intimate and expansive. Bad Vibes introduced Shlohmo"s lo-fi, slowmotion approach, crafting emotive atmospheres that would influence a generation of West Coast producers. The End, a cinematic journey of chaos and calm, cemented his status as a visionary, blending apocalyptic tension with moments of quiet reflection, made with drum machines, vintage synths, and improvised recording techniques.

Zebulon's debut album "Come Day of Reckoning" delivers slow-burning doom with crushing riffs, dramatic vocals, and haunting melodies. The material explores themes of judgement and faith. Recorded in the winter of 2025. Zebula hails from Jæren, Norway.
