Beide zählen zu den herausragenden Musikern ihrer Generation und verbinden höchste Virtuosität mit furchtloser Kreativität und unverwechselbarer Individualität. Tief in der Jazztradition verwurzelt, verschmelzen sie mühelos Einflüsse aus Klassik, Pop und anderen Genres. Das Ergebnis ist Musik, die gleichermaßen überraschend und bezaubernd wirkt. Wir sind mit Groove-Jazz groß geworden, mit Marcus Miller, David Sanborn oder den Brecker Brothers, das ist unsere DNA“ sagt der Altsaxofonist Jakob Manz „aber wir wollten für das zweite Album von The Jakob Manz Project auch neue Inspirationen, die uns herausfordern und weiterbringen.“ Diese lieferten vor allem ein Aufritt beim Papjazz Festival auf Haiti. Die Lebensumstände und die Musik des Landes, sowie die dortige Begegnung dem Pianisten Meddy Gerville aus La Réunion bewegten die Band zutiefst. So hören wir auf „The Answer“ wieder Jakob Manz atemberaubende Virtuosität, die jedoch immer im Dienst der Musik steht. Wir hören von amerikanischem Soul- und Pop-Jazz geprägte Grooves und Melodien. Aber auch neue Farben und Schattierungen, welche die Beschäftigung mit Musiken jenseits der westlichen Welt mit sich gebracht hat. Diese neuen, erweiterten Klangräume erobert sich Manz mit seiner Band bestehend aus Hannes Stollsteimer am Piano, Frieder Klein am Bass und Paul Albrecht am Schlagzeug, nun erweitert um Perkussionisten Karl Degenhardt. Dazu kommen Gäste aus den unterschiedlichsten Richtungen: Lionel Loueke steuert mit Gesang und Gitarre eine faszinierende westafrikanische Note bei, Alexandra Stollsteimer einen klassischen Geigenklang und Matthias Schriefl Trompete und Alphorn - letzteres sicher ein Novum im Groove-Jazz-Genre. Wie so oft ist Jazz auch auf „The Answer“ vor allem ein Vokabular, mit dem Musiker:innen auf der ganzen Welt ausdrücken, was sie bewegt und beeinflusst und ihr Publikum dies miterleben lassen.

It was in Studio 4 of WDR in January 2022 when Simon Oslender first met Steve Gadd during the recording session for the album 'Centerstage'. Guitarist Bruno Muller was also there. The chemistry between the musicians was right from the very first time they played together. At the end of the session, Steve Gadd said to Simon and Bruno: "We'll do more together." And that's exactly what happened! Simon Oslender's highly successful studio album 'All That Matters' was recorded at the end of 2023.

Will Lee was also there on bass, who together with Steve Gadd has been one of the most famous rhythm sections in pop and jazz history for almost 40 years. At the end of the recording session, it was clear to everyone involved: this band had to go on tour to present this music to fans live. In December 2024, the time had come. The band, joined here and there by guests Jakob Manz on alto saxophone and Nils Landgren on trombone, went on tour. All concerts were sold out; the atmosphere in the respective venues was magnificent; thunderous applause and encores in every club or concert hall. Every concert was recorded. Now the result is here. The ensemble’s ingenious mix of techno and big
band jazz has proved to be just as accessible to
people listening to the band from the comfort of
their seats in a concert hall as it has to those
sweating it out on the dancefloor.
Since 2015 Jazzrausch Bigband have been in
residence at Harry Klein in Munich, a club
renowned for its house and techno acts as well as
for its stunning live visuals; this cooperation
between a techno club and a big band is a truly
unique one.
DownBeat magazine singled out not just the
band’s “high-voltage performances” and “party
atmosphere” but also the amount of
experimentation going on.
