Reggae music in many ways reminds us of Americaâs Motown records. The music comes out of its stable fast and furious we tend to know the songs, the artists, the
studio but who? are the players. The unsung heroes that in many cases, cut most of our favourite tracks One such band this applies to in the Reggae field is the Soul Syndicate Band.
Each Jamaican record producer would have their favourite set of musicians they would use, availability permitting. Although several musicians crossed over into different named bands. For example, a set of players working with Producer Bunny 'Striker' Lee would go under the guise of The Aggrovators. The same group working with Producer Joe Gibbs would work under the name The Professionals. Soul Syndicate were the band of choice for Producer Niney the Observer, who used them for his own recordings and when you put that aside the other artists Niney produced, Dennis Brown, Max Romeo, Michael Rose, I Roy, The Ethiopians, Barry Brown, Gregory Issacs and Freddie McGregor. To name a few and not necessary all, you begin to see the amount of material this set of musicians played on.
Built around the rhythm section of Calton 'Santa' Davis and George 'Fully' Fullwood, drums and bass respectfully. They were usually accompanied by Earl 'Chinna' Smith, Tony Chin on guitars, Keith Sterling, Gladstone 'Gladdy' Anderstone, Bernard 'Touter' Harvey, organ/keyboards and Noel 'Skully' Simms, percussion. Niney's tracks tended to be rhythm heavy and thus Sound System favourites. But when brass was needed/called for ,this was provided by the likes of Tommy McCook, Bobby Ellis, Felix ' Deadley Headley' Bennett. Niney not having a studio of his own at the time used most of Kingston's studios, again availability and money providing. But most of these cuts
selected for this release were cut at Channel 1 and a few exceptions at Randy's Studio 17 and at Joe Gibbs studio at Burns Avenue.
Niney also worked closely with King Tubby on his dub plates, so tracks after the recording sessions were taken to King Tubbys for reconstruction and sometimes
re-voicing over an existing rhythm. These were then used as version sides to the vocal cuts, but most importantly used to nice up the dances, being played out on King Tubbys Hometown Hi-Fi Sound System. We have pulled together a selection of such dub plate specials cut by the Soul Syndicate band for this release. Dub sides that emphasise how well the band worked together, and with Niney at the reigns and the added bonus of some Tubby magic sprinkled on top. Please see our Niney the Observer at King Tubbys 1973-1975 (JRO11) for further examples of this work.
We at Jamaican Recordings hope we are not alone in saluting the musicians, that played such a big part in producing many of our favourite Reggae Sounds. Having released titles by The Revolutionaries (JR003), The Aggrovators (JR005), Sly and Robbie (JR006), we are now pleased to release a selection of rare Dub cuts by another one of Jamaica's finest, the Soul Syndicate band to our catalogue...

Daniel Land's new album, "Out of Season", is his most ambitious record to date, a series of reflections on history, memory, and post-Brexit Britain, which was inspired by his return to the landscapes of his youth â the rugged, underpopulated west coast of Somerset. The album was written and partly recorded in Danielâs studio in a static caravan, overlooking the coast, during the period when the UK was tearing itself apart over its relationship to Europe. "I didn't set out to write about Brexit", Daniel says, "I have a kind of horror of political music. But I couldnât escape the atmosphere of the time â this strange, distorted version of âEnglishnessâ in the national psyche. Iâve always been interested in memory and nostalgia; Brexit illustrates the dangers of taking seductive, possibly false memories at face valueâ. Songs like âWhite Chalkâ, âIsland of Ghostsâ, and the albumâs title track, represent a series of attempts to reclaim an older, more peculiar idea of England which, Daniel says has been âLost in the nationalist mythmaking of the past decadesâ â the island of misfits and outsiders exemplified by the works of Derek Jarman, for example, whom Daniel was rediscovering while working on the album. âI must have read 'Modern Nature' ten times over the yearsâ, Daniel says. âWhat I love about Jarman is that he had a deep, abiding love for England, but it was a very complicated, critical and a very queer kind of love. That was very much my mood, going into the making of this albumâ. Like Jarmanâs work, "Out of Season" probes national identity whilst also displaying resolutely queer themes throughout. Danielâs voice â once described by The Guardian as "The spawn of Elizabeth Fraser and Anthony Hegartyâ â is less heavily reverbed than before, bringing to the fore his often-confessional lyrics, inspired by the frankness of modern queer poets like Andrew McMillan, SeĂĄn Hewitt, and Ocean Vuong. A lyrical highlight is the gorgeous âSouthern Soulâ, a deceptively straightforward recounting of a decades-old hookup with a closeted guy from his hometown which, Daniel says, âServes as a metaphor for everything Iâm talking about in the albumâ. And in keeping with the albumâs nods to the heroes of gay literature, Danielâs self-styling of the album as a âDream Pop Album on National Themesâ deliberately references the full title of Tony Kushnerâs era-defining play "Angels in America", whose central character is namechecked in the hook-laden âLemon Boyâ â a song which must surely stand as Danielâs most deliciously pop moment yet. Lauded by Mark Radcliffe, Guy Garvey, Tom Robinson, and many others, Daniel Land makes music that, in the words of BBC Radio 1, "You can't help but think the late John Peel would have loved".

Catatonic Suns is Patrick Shields (guitar, vocals) , Jakob Christman (bass) and Caleb Strobl (drums) Catatonic Suns new album sees them blend the underground psychedelia of the late 80s / early 90s Pacific Northwest with the shimmering shoegazery of Britain from the same time. Heavy and soft guitars, songs that soar, these new recordings verge on the epic. For fans of The Verve (early), Screaming Trees, Truly, Ride, Slowdive, Alice In Chains. Pennsylvanian threepiece Catatonic Suns release their brand new album via Agitated records this autumn (Fall if you reside in the US), Patrick and Jake have known each other since birth, obsessing on punk rock, but the band actually formed in 2019. Vocalist / guitarist Patrick and fellow guitarist Llambro Llaguri began creating homemade psychedelic psychedelic 4 track cassette demos during the Winter of 2015, taking heavy inspiration from an eclectic mix of acts ranging from Ween to R.E.M. As these early songs were created, the duo sought other like minded individuals in their hometown of Allentown, PA to take these primitive demos to the next level. It was then that Patrick recruited another childhood friend, Jakob Christman, to fill the role of bass along with another mutual friend Caleb Strobl completing the rhythm section of Catatonic Suns. In 2019, the group put out their first release, the Catatonic Suns demo, a collection of lo-fi recordings made by Patrick over the years. During this period, the band began to make a name for itself by playing shows across eastern Pennsylvania including the Lehigh Valley where local garage rock heroes Original Sins hailed from. During the months of August and September of the same year, Catatonic Sun's reputation for wall of sound psych-grunge was really brought to life when the group teamed up with local record producer guru Matt Molchany of Shards Recording Studio to track their debut studio venture âAphelionâ (more an extended EP). Self -Released in the December, the album found an audience beyond the local music circuit of Pennsylvania, even reaching countries such as the U.K.,Germany and Japan. The band continued to play shows growing their fanbase and honing their skills as a cohesive unit resulting in radio airplay across the country and a feature on the compilation âPedal Worshipâ by Bummer Recordings. During this same period, Matt Molchany once again helped the band carve their next album (a full length) âSaudadeâ along with mastering engineer Matt Poirier (War On Drugs), which was also self released, in February 2022. They played plenty more gigs, and ventured to the west coast for some shows in LA with local friends Laurel Canyon, one especially wild night was with both bands supporting Strawberry Alarm Clock at the Whiskey A Go Go. Now a three piece and into 2023 the band record the 7 original songs and one Original Sins cover for this new release.. Recorded early 2023 at Shards Recording Studio, Bethelem, PA with tracking and mixing once again by Matt Molchany. Mastered by Mikey Young. Agitated/ Catatonic Suns intend to remaster/ reissue Saudade on LP / CD formats in 2024, to coincide with debut UK shows.

Richie Culver had been waiting his whole life to record I was born by the sea. His debut album immediately and messily inscribed the artist into the canon of outsider music and experimental electronics, serving both as an arresting statement of intent and a painful reckoning with the difficult path that lead up to it, stealing one last glance back at a place he always knew he had to escape. Between grim lamentations, faded memories and anxiety attacks, all told with searing honesty and disarming openness, I was born by the sea excavates a space for hope, finding Culver digging through Humberside silt to find a world weary optimism, the raw material from which his visual and sound art is shaped. For this collection of expansions and inversions, Culver invites a collection of kindred spirits, contemporary inspirations and old heroes to wade into the salt water of his formative years spent living for impromptu raves and afterparties, connecting vivid memories of his birth place of Withernsea to artists hailing from as nearby as Preston and Bridlington, further afield, from Manchester and London, Berlin and Paris, before returning back to Hull, to where it all began.
For some, responding to I was born by the sea means diving even deeper into the recordâs furthest reaches. Space Afrika clear away the pummelling loops of noise from âItâs hard to get to know you,â revealing a cool and cavernous expanse in its wake. Distant chatter, previously heard as though through thin, plasterboard walls, now echoes from outside the maddening claustrophobia of the originalâs Sisyphean sonics, illuminated as a dense storm cloud suspended amidst a more open scene, washed clean by a lighter rain, allowing the tender heart of the track to beat clear. London producer MOBBS stretches out âPigeon Fleshâ into an epic, 10-minute, cold-sweat spiral, strung-out tension wrung from disconnected phone tones twisted in unexpected directions, snatches of Culverâs voice turned inside-out and deep fried bass threatening to tip the track over into oblivion, the build-and-release of a nervous breakdown experienced in real time. In an act of subversive self-reflection, Morgane Polanski switches one kind of ennui for another in her adaption of âI was born by the sea,â swapping the sea for the city, English seaside towns in January for summer evenings in Paris and flashing lighthouses and sparkling oil rigs for the Eiffel Tower and the traffic around LâArc de Triomphe. Even Culver finds time to revisit âDream About Yourself,â a track taken from his EP Post Traumatic Fantasy, breathing new words into its glacial drift, the half-remembered testimony of a shut-in: Woke up in the evening / Pray for me / Donât trust anyone / Pray for algorithm. Reframed in a more melancholy light, the trackâs reverberant keys even more clearly evoke a mournful nostalgia, fresh pain felt in old wounds.
Others find a parallel universe in Culverâs visceral world building. Rainy Miller flips the script with a scorched, avant-drill rework of âDaytime TVâ, threading puncturing hi-hats and queasy low-end surge through the trackâs steady ambient cascade, invoking the irresistible Preston beat magic of Millerâs own essential debut album, Desquamation. Aho Ssan melts away the crystalline textures of âLove Like an Abscessâ with the ominous crackle of a nascent fire, building through swathes of organic Max/MSP squelch and brittle, nails-down-chalkboard scrape, swelling and metastasising the original to spill over Culverâs desperate hymn to corporeal desire, at once flesh and not. Teresa Winter transports us an hour up the coast from Withernsea to her native Bridlington, replacing the sea wall of synthesis on âNervous Energyâ with muffled ASMR murk and fever dream whispers, transforming Culverâs unflinching observations into a haunting call-and-response, filling in the blanks with her own eerie utterances, a fleeting conversation with a ghost. In a touching victory lap, Fila Brazillia, eccentric stalwarts of beloved â90s trip hop imprint Pork Recordings, whose performances at Hull institution The Lamp convinced a young Culver of the necessity to make his mark on club culture, resurface for their first remix in 20 years. Steve Cobby and David McSherry lead a low-slung, heartfelt stroll back through a suite of tracks from I was born by the sea, tracing a full circle saunter from Culverâs origins to his current musical practice, the sounds of his present repurposed by the sound of his youth. In a gesture that reflects the emotional complexity of the project, Fila Brazillia find joy at the end of Culverâs troubled reflection, picking out an undeniable groove in the stasis of feeling trapped in your hometown. Underlining Hullâs vital musical legacy, from Baby Mammoth to Throbbing Gristle, Cobby and McSherry demonstrate that, though there are certainly storms, by the sea there is also sun and through the fog, if you listen, you can hear a singular sound, a sound now carried by Richie Culver.

Markus Suckut returns with his second EP on 'made of Concrete'. Named after the Ruhr area, one of the densest regions in Germany, 'Ruhr' shows off the mesmerizing skillset and versatility of the producer. His hometown DĂŒsseldorf is one of the three major cities on the Ruhr map and has brought up its very own DĂŒsseldorf-sound within German electronic music, with local heroes Kraftwerk paving the way in the 1970s. The twists and turns of the Ruhr river and the musical paths that electronic music has taken all come together in this EP, which steers from techno to electronica with ease.
While 'Tunnel' is a rather straightforward minimal techno banger, the title track 'Ruhr' is almost melancholic. 'At The Park With Friends' ventures into the realms of ambient. The 5-tracker is accompanied by a technoid remix of 'Smoke' by Markus Suckut's longtime friend Thomas Hessler.

Listening to the story of Canadian duo cleopatrick is a bit like hearing the plot of the best, most righteously validating coming-of-age film never made. Two friends meet aged four in Hicksville, Nowheretown (real name: Cobourg, Ontario, population 19,000), grow up completely inseparable, form a band and, against numerous obstacles, blossom into a genuine, global underground sensation. There are heroes and villains, highs and lows and, crucially, some of the most poetic plot twists that could seem almost too perfect, were they not completely true. Take the story of 2017 breakthrough track âhometownâ for example. âItâs one of the craziest, most ironic things thatâs ever happened,â begins vocalist and guitarist Luke Gruntz. âI was going to college because I was too scared to put all my chips in the band pile, and thatâs what âhometownâ is about: itâs a song about feeling like weâre doing all this stuff and weâre working so hard and weâre just never going to be heard. Itâs literally a song about people probably never hearing our songs. And then by some act of the universe, that song ended up unlocking all the doors for us.â Today, cleopatrick has logged 77 million streams and counting - all from an increasingly dedicated fanbase whoâve found the duo, completed by drummer Ian Fraser, their own way: no major label, no big budget, just two best pals knuckling down, cementing a unique sonic alchemy and filling a space of honest, empathetic yet undeniably heavy-hitting rock music that theyâd been searching for themselves for years. Between multiple sold out tours in Canada, the US and the UK/EU and appearances at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits and Reading/Leeds, the pair have been crafting BUMMER: a debut album that sees cleopatrick harness all the magic theyâve been brewing over their two-decade friendship and funnel it into a record that aims to reinvigorate the rock landscape from the ground up. Taking the ethos of their New Rock Mafia collective - a group of friends and fellow bands, united in making a more inclusive, equality-driven space in rock music - and imbuing it with the sonic ambition and ferocity of a record designed to be played hard and loud, itâs an album about two friends, whoâve been with each other since the formative first steps that adorn âBUMMERââs heartwarming cover image and made something thatâs a testament to the power of sticking to your guns.

RED FANG return with their highly anticipated new album, Arrows! Their first album in five years, everyone's favorite beer-crushing, zombie-killing, air-guitar-contest-judging metal heroes are back in action, doing what they do best- AND MORE. âThis record feels more like Murder The Mountains to me than any record weâve done before or since,â bassist/vocalist Aaron Beam ventures. âIt doesnât sound like that record, but Murder the Mountains was us doing whatever the fuck we wanted, and thatâs what this is, too.â Arrows was recorded at Halfling Studios in the bandâs hometown of Portland, OR, with longtime collaborator Chris Funk, producer of Murder The Mountains and 2013âs Whales and Leeches. âChris is a major influencer as far as the weird ambient stuff in between the songs and the creepy incidental noises within the songs,â guitarist Bryan Giles points out. âI think he definitely creates an added layer of atmosphere that we wouldnât have otherwise.â Arrows is also a proper title track, which is new territory for the band. âThis is the first time weâve named an album after a song thatâs actually on the album,â Beam explains. âWe have other albums that are named after songs of ours that are not on those albums. So this time weâre really fucking with you because we didnât fuck with you.â Similarly, fans might not believe what the song âArrowsâ is partially about. âIf youâre confused by some of the lyrics to the song, that makes sense,â Beam explains. âBut it makes reference to meditation. I started meditating six years ago, but I can only do it when Iâm not feeling too anxious. So, when I donât need it, thatâs when I can do it.â Elsewhere, âFonzi Schemeâ was named after legendary Happy Days cool guy Arthur Fonzarelliâif only because itâs in the key of his famous catchphrase, âAaay.â Producer Chris Funk came up with the idea of bringing in string players from the Portland Cello Project to class up the track. Meanwhile, the opening riff of closer âFuneral Coachâ was written 11 years ago. But it took until recently for the song to blossom into its full double-entendre glory. âI was driving around and I saw a hearse that said âfuneral coach servicesâ on the back,â Beam explains. âSo the first thing that popped into my head was a dude with a headset and a clipboard going, âAlright, dudesâmore tears! Five minutes in is when the tears are critical, or no oneâs gonna believe that anyone cares that this person died.ââ In a nod to tradition, Arrows will be available in formats that include all the drums, bass, guitars and vocals. But it couldâve gone another way. âOur original idea was to release the album with no vocals or guitar solos,â Beam explains. âIf you want the guitar solos, itâs an extra five bucks. If you want the vocals, itâs an extra ten bucks. So basically people should feel lucky that we didnât do that. You get to buy the whole thing altogether.â RED FANG think of it as a generous display of gratitude toward their fans. âYeah,â says Sherman, âThank you for buying our album, you lucky bastards.â

Liz Phair announces âSoberishâ, her highly-anticipated new album and first collection of original
material in eleven years. Produced by Phairâs longtime collaborator Brad Wood - known for helming
Phairâs seminal albums âExile In Guyvilleâ, âWhip-Smartâ and âwhitechocolatespaceeggâ - âSoberishâ is
released via Chrysalis Records.
Almost thirty years since her peerless debut album âExile In Guyvilleâ was released (voted #56 in
Rolling Stoneâs 2020 list of the 500 Greatest albums Of All Time), Phair returns with a new record that
will both intrigue and satisfy her long-standing fans and introduce her to a smart young audience
whose contemporary heroes have been reading from Phairâs playbook since they first picked up a
guitar.
Liz Phair has achieved the kind of status in her industry rarely bestowed on recording artists. Her
albums in the 1990s were central to the indie rock canon of the day. Her image was featured in
countless magazines, early Apple commercials and Gap ads. Her eponymous album for Capitol
Records in 2003 took Phair in a pop direction that ruffled some criticsâ feathers but nonetheless went
gold, galvanizing a host of new fans, particularly among young women who fell in love with hits like
âWhy Canât Iâ and âExtraordinaryâ, tracks that were featured in several major films and TV shows,
including 13 Going On 30, Raising Helen and How To Deal. Liz has picked up two Grammy
nominations and a spot in Pitchforkâs Greatest Albums Of The 90s, with over five million record sales
to date (including three US gold albums). She sang âGod Bless Americaâ at the opening game of the
Chicago White Sox World Series victory in her hometown in 2005.
âSoberishâ is a portrait of Phair in the present tense, taking all of the facets of her melodic output over
the years and synthesizing them into a beautiful, perfect whole. Sheâs at the top of her game in the
recording studio, drawing upon years of experience in television composition to weave through the
songs daring and unexpected sound design. With Brad Woodâs exquisite engineering and masterful
production, the result is a wholly fresh yet satisfyingly familiar sound that challenges on the first listen
and seduces with each subsequent play through. The earworms are strong with this one.
Phair says, âI found my inspiration for âSoberishâ by delving into an early era of my music development,
my art school years spent listening to Art Rock and New Wave music non-stop on my Walkman. The
English Beat, The Specials, Madness, R.E.M.s Automatic for the People, Yazoo, The Psychedelic
Furs, Talking Heads, Velvet Underground, Laurie Anderson, and the Cars. The city came alive for me
as a young person, the bands in my headphones lending me the courage to explore.â
None of the arrangements on Soberish are traditional songwriting standards but the hooks are so
catchy, the imagery so compelling, that the listener is drawn effortlessly along with the music. There
are the off-kilter, unexpected guitar chords listeners will recognize as her signature style, a mainstay
from her earliest work; the instantly knowable choruses of her most pop-friendly songs of the early
2000s; the frank lyricism and storytelling that has opened doors for countless women picking up
guitars and attempting to speak about their experiences.
Phair shares insight into the meaning of her title: ââSoberishâ can be about partying. It can be about
self-delusion. It can be a about chasing that first flush of love or, in fact, any state of mind that allows
you to escape reality for a while and exist on a happier plane. Itâs not self-destructive or out of control;
itâs as simple as the cycle of dreaming and waking up. Thatâs why I chose to symbolize âSoberishâ with
a crossroads, with a street sign. Itâs best described as a simple pivot of perspective. When you meet
your âishâ self again after a period of sobriety, thereâs a deep recognition and emotional relief that
floods you, reminding you that there is more to life, more to reality and to your own soul than you are
consciously aware of. But if you reach for too much of a good thing, or starve yourself with too little,
youâll lose that critical balance.â

Iâve known Alex Bleeker my entire life. Well, okay, maybe not since I was born, but thereâs no doubt that Iâve shared a fair bit of memories with him over the years. Weâve acted in high school productions of Shakespeare together, gone on late-night diner runs, argued about which Weezer album is the bandâs best, and swapped mutual appreciation for the music of Yo La Tengo on car rides careening around the snaky suburbia of our hometown. Just like his Real Estate bandmates Martin Courtney and Julian Lynch, we attended high school in the New Jersey enclave of Ridgewood, a place where sticky summer days yielded cool nights with a glow so nocturnal that you can practically hear the fireflies buzzing off of this sentence alone.
Indie rockâa type of music that can easily be made or listened to in someoneâs garageâoften dominates teenage suburban preoccupations, and both Alex and I were no exception. You can hear this legacy of listening on his new album Heaven on the Faultline, which departs from his last full-band outing as Alex Bleeker and the Freaks, 2015âs Country Agenda. Whereas that album had a more full-bodied explicitly folk-y feel, Heaven on the Faultline finds Bleeker getting back to his homespun roots over the course of its 13 songs, from the jangly guitar pop of New Jersey heroes the Feelies and YLTâs hushed, acoustic reveries to the open-hearted folk rock that marks so much of the Grateful Deadâs early catalog.
Written and recorded over the last several years, Heaven on the Faultlineâs songs were initially recorded straight to GarageBand in Bleekerâs bedroom before receiving further studio refinement in co-producer Phil Hartunianâs Tropico Beauty space in Los Angeles. With contributions from Confusing Mix of Nationsâ Josh Da Costa, Cameron Stallones of Sun Araw, singer-songwriter Kacey Johansing, and Parting Linesâ Tim Ramsey, Heaven on the Faultline achieves a warm and intimate feel that defines Bleekerâs mission for the album: âI wanted to capture the moment in which I fell in love with making music to begin with. This is music for myselfâme getting back to music for musicâs sake.â
The unsteady times we live in certainly creep into view on Heaven on the Faultline. The deceptively easygoing âD Plusâ was written on the day of President Donald Trumpâs inauguration with the cursed event in mind, while the anxiety of climate change hovers just above the lovely guitar loops of âFelty Feel.â âThe album is very much about dealing with the anxiety of a sense of impending doom,â Bleeker states while discussing the albumâs portentous vibes. âWhen is the hammer going to fall? How do we go forward in the face of such anxiety and experience the complexity of life?â
Tough questions with few answers, but try not to stress too much. Itâs possible to experience such existential doubt while also enjoying the simple pleasures that life has to offer, and that ethos is square at the heart of Heaven on the Faultline. It defines who Alex Bleeker is, too, and is one of many reasons why Iâm proud to have known this special person and artist for so long.

Marvelâs Spider-Man: Miles Morales Original Video Game Soundtrack
Mondo, in collaboration with Hollywood Records, is proud to present the soundtrack to the all-new hit game Marvelâs Spider-Man: Miles Morales, featuring an incredible score by John Paesano as well as original songs by Lecrae and Jaden.
Picking up where the previous game left off, Marvelâs Spider-Man: Miles Morales puts you in the web-slinging hands of the titular character, taking on a mysterious group of rebels known as The Underground, who are going toe-to-toe with a mysterious energy company who seemingly nefarious aims for Harlem, our hero's hometown.
John Paesano is no stranger to Marvel's most famous New York heroes, having composed the score for the previous game Marvel's Spider-Man (not to mention the late, great television series Marvel's Daredevil and Marvel's The Defenders), and his work on this chapter is nothing short of spectacular. Taking elements of his previous score and plussing them, incorporating elements of trap beats and drum machine to give the symphonic score a hip-hop rhythm section.

What more can be said about The Slackers? Having released over 20 albums and countless singles over a decades-spanning career that dates back to 1991, the New York City hometown heroes have managed to thrive both underground and internationally in the firmly entrenched revival scenes of ska, punk and rock 'n roll.
Their generational impact may be unmatched, especially considering the incredible run and reach that they've made throughout a myriad of tours across North America, Europe and South America.
Easily standard bearers for the modern day, working, independent musician, The Slackers have also embodied a very thoughtful and respectful brand of Jamaican roots music and production into their own skilled compositions and writing. It's a concrete connection to the musical roots that makes this particular one-off release on NYCT a prime example of The Slackers in their most classic and reverential stance.
Two unreleased exclusive instrumentals in the canonical Jamaican stylee: one ska, one rock steady, two burners on the preferred 7-inch format.

There is no end to composer Peter Broderick's creative output, and so we present to you his new album titled All Together Again â available worldwide on November 17th 2017 via Erased Tapes. They say music takes you on a journey, and this collection of commissioned work by Peter quite literally does that. From a ferry boat ride in Istanbul, to walking down the aisle at a wedding, these songs were created for particular situations, yet Peter found a way to work without any sort of limitations and on his own erms. The result is an assortment of works from the past ten years, coming together as one: Peter's new album. Words from Peter, October 2017: Ever since I started releasing records in 2007 (10 years ago now!), people have contacted me periodically to ask if I'd be interested in making music to accompany their projects. Most of these projects have been things like films, dance pieces and theatre plays . . . but every so often I get the odd request for something a little different. Peter, would you write a song for my wedding My one year anniversary A ferry boat ride
In early 2015 I was asked to perform 12 minutes of music during a runway show as part of New York Fashion Week. I agreed and began composing a 12-minute piece which I could perform on my own with a few different instruments and some looping pedals. I made a recording of the piece and sent it over to my contacts at the fashion show . . . but a few days before I was to fly out to New York, they wrote back and told me they actually just wanted me to play a few older songs that they were already familiar with. Feeling slightly disappointed, I shelved the other piece, giving it the title If I Were A Runway Model. It is with great pleasure that I now present this piece in a collection of commissioned works spanning the last decade . . . it's All Together Again. This group of oddball works does indeed include a couple pieces written for weddings (Our Future In Wedlock and The Walk), and a song someone asked me to write as a gift for his wife on their first year wedding anniversary (Emily). And indeed, there's a 17-minute piece written to accompany a ferry boat ride in Istanbul (A Ride On The Bosphorus). A few of the pieces were written for films (Robbie's Song, Atlantic and Seeing Things), and one for a kind of interactive installation (Unsung Heroes). In my early days of recording, I took pride in playing all the different instruments myself and doing the recording myself as well. And then at some point I started branching out, working with other musicians and recording engineers. But this record is very dear to me in that it's a return to that original approach . . . playing all the different instruments myself, working with my limits on each one, and my own limits in recording and mixing. I've always held a broad curiosity for all different instruments and all different styles of music, and if nothing else I hope this record will portray that curiosity, and my pure love for this thing we call music. Can you dig it The cover art was made by Peter himself in his hometown of Portland, Oregon, by cutting and sticking different coloured paper fragments to depict the individuality of each track.
