The long awaited answer from the notorious southern-hemispherian sound system, Subtle Sound System. This debut release from their record label aptly named Subtle Recordings is bringing some heavy weight straight out of Christchurch, New Zealand, first up with local legend Headland. Exquisitely imprinted 'no holds bar' by the masterful Optimal Media in a full art sleeve, this 180 gram, vinyl only, no-repress recording superbly ushers in a new beginning for the sound system and is another pillar of foundation to the future sound of bass music.

Headland, with his atmospheric soundscapes, sparatic drums, jarring percussion and punishing basslines, has been taking his unique sound to the world for the past few years and has sequentially been picked up by some of the most forward thinking labels in the bass music scene. From notoriety like Innamind Recordings and Zam Zam Sounds, Headland is one of the most noteworthy artists on the scene today and is a staple in sets from artists including, Samba, Mala, VIVEK, Commodo, Sleeper, just to name a few. Headland's infamy continues on Subtle Recordings debut release with the two outstanding tracks, Quiver and Deathbed.

From a spacious beginning, Quiver quickly builds pressure, manifesting into a track that by the end of, you'll have to regroup your crew as all would have been taken on their own solo journey. Navigate through high level percussion, sonic stabs, sub-temperate basslines and menacing vocals, all encompassed within a 130 bpm landscape where the richters leave you feeling vulnerable and insignificant. Seth Troxler & The Martinez Brothers' Tuskegee Music welcomes Chicago legend K- Alexi Shelby for a new EP that features some essential solo cuts as well as two great collaborations with Tony Lovlesss.K-Alexi is a genuine Chicago great. He's been at the core of the scene since the eighties and releasing his raw grooves on DJ International, Trax and Transmat, as well as his own K Klassik label. He has recently remixed for Seth Troxler's other label, Say It Play It, but is now back serving up the sort of engaging originals that have made him such an enduring star.
Excellent opener 'Cherry K Moon' is a raw slice of deep and soulful tech. The driving bassline melts your mind as afro percussion and driving drums make for a solid groove below. It's one for the late-night hours that will twist and turn any crowd inside out. The superb 'Dark Smile' is less tense and more house oriented in nature, with preacher style vocals up top and busy kicks down low. Live, chattery hand claps bring an organic feel and synth stabs inject looseness that will get hands in the air.
The pressure then builds through the manic Tony Lovlesss collab 'Anal Probe', a powerful techno track with hi tech drums and taught synths freaking you out as they ride up and down the scale. Their second track together 'Fly Shit' is more playful with radiant synths opening it up to the skies and lively, funky drum programming bringing a real sense of a sun kissed terrace party. Last of all, the standout 'Run With Jackals' feat. A.D.M is another heavily percussive track with rattling toms, vocal chants and hammering hits all adding up to a compelling afro-house rhythm. These are all innovate tracks that explore various different moods and grooves with a real sense of quality.

"For Christian H" is a compilation album from the Arctic Norwegian city of Tromsø, dedicated to the memory of Christian Hollingsæter - the director of the Insomnia festival - who died unexpectedly in May this year, only 35 years old.

All 11 tracks have been gifted exclusively for the album, which is available as a digital download, a CD, and as a LIMITED EDITION LP. Only 100 copies made. All proceeds will go to Christian´s son Julian.

Berlin based electronic mainstay Marquis Hawkes has announced details of his second LP 'The Marquis of Hawkes', due out 24th August 2018 on fabric's in-house label Houndstooth (home to Call Super, Aïsha Devi, Special Request and more).

Ahead of this, Hawkes will also release a new single featuring acclaimed UK soul singer Jamie Lidell. The single, entitled 'We Should Be Free', features, alongside the low slung but melancholic original version, three reinterpretations of the song, remixed by Hawkes himself. Both this, and the essential previous single, Don't U', which featured the vocal talents of Ursula Rucker, will appear on the forthcoming album.

Harlem's legendary Disco label Queen Constance has long been a cult favourite among fans of underground dance music for decades.

One of many labels operating under the equally legendary P&P family of imprints Queen Constance was operated by one Peter Brown, a truly colossal figure in NYC's music scene, it's catalogue still fascinates music lovers to this day. Covering a wide range of styles including Gospel, early Rap and Disco the label's output continually finds it way into the playlists of respected DJ's and selectors across the globe. High Fidelity will be the first in a series of Queen Constance rarities to be reissued, an extremely rare and coveted record that can change hands on the second hand market for big big money, avoid those low rent bootlegs that are out there and cop this fully licensed repress.

The group's self-titled sole long-player is a fantastic 6 track set of gritty, soulful and uplifting funky Disco with a DIY edge. Not too much is known about the artists themselves, or even when the record was performed, recorded or released but it certainly sounds like a group who knew their craft inside out. The energy is high across the record and the group sound like they're on fire, just check the outrageously funkified 'Magic Carpet' and you'll see what we mean. Amazing. The whole project has that enchanting lo-fi, back-street feel to it in terms of production and the mind boggles as to how such a record would have come off had it been recorded at a Motown or any other 'big' studio, but no matter as this release is perfect the way it is, an essential piece of street-level NYC Disco straight from the underground.

Long time friends (since Flex Vienna 95) Patrick and Luke joined forces on Blumoog Music and came up with this crafty and dynamic four tracker EP. Their late 70's rarity 'Deeper' is a real monster lifted from their killer 'Behold The Mighty Army' LP. Produced by legendary Motown stalwart Frank Wilson this is some straight-up Disco-fied Funk for sure! One of those solid, mid-tempo groovers that just ignites a dance-floor at any time, any place. Side-A is the glorious full-side Disco mix and we're treated to the full instrumental version on the flip. No lazy edits here, just the full Funk and nothing but the Funk, just as the group intended! After a debut outing on International Black last year with his best friend Mallard, LT graduates onto Rhythm Section INTL with a stunning debut solo effort: FOREST FLOOR.Aged just 20 years old, Lewis Taylor aka LT is another prodigal talent from the north of England, whose association with Rhythm Section goes back to his school days. A fan of the label from an early age, Lewis regularly made pilgrimages to the pool hall as soon as he was old enough to do so. It was these visits with his old school friend Mallard (who had recently moved down to London from Derbyshire to study music) which proved to be a formative influence, prompting him to try his hand at production...It turned out he was quite the natural, with his second ever effort as an 18 year old making it onto this very EP. Sitting somewhere between electro, house and techno with a healthy dose of breaks - LT constructs complex arrangements with as much of a nod to the retro summer of love stylings of Lone as to the new age bounce of the Pender Street Steppers. The piano house stabs of 'Untitled (Chesney)' reverberate around chopped breaks and screaming samples, anchored down by bouncy organ bass and FM lead synth which really begs the question: 'How did LT develop such a rich lexicon of club culture references in such a short time' We'd be tempted to believe it was just pure luck, if this mastery of rave aesthetics wasn't repeated throughout the EP...
Mesosphere fizzes with arpeggiated energy before giving way to a magnificent yet subtle drop that will serve festival main stages as well as it will back room clubs. Before the EP is over, LT has one more trick up his sleeve in Forest Floor - the titular track which is the musical equivalent of watching the sun rise through a misty glade after a night spent alone in the wilderness. With this gentle touch, LT proves he's more than another kid on Ableton making bangers - he has breadth, incredible musicality and a rare ability to transcript sceneries into sounds. Finishing with 'North Circular' possibly a reference to the free Parties on the London Orbital or merely just a coincidence you decide.
We couldn't be happier to welcome LT onto the RS INTL roster in what feels like a fulfilment of destiny. It's such a great honour to have nurtured and now introduce the next generation via the Rhythm Section platform.

First Terrace return with the second instalment of their split series, an ongoing project which sees the work of two artists illuminated in each other's light. Built on the acknowledgement that context alters perception, the light shone by the opposing track alters the shadow cast, the effect of the other. In answer to the forked road presented by FTS001, we chose the quiet path*. As such FTS002 is a journey softly travelled. These pieces will not leave a scar on the sonic landscape, rather glide above the tips of the reaching leaves, high on a different mission. Vida composed her pieces to be absorbed in complete darkness. They were exhibited as part of the project In the Dark in Berlin, 2016. The lack of visual stimulus enhances the listening experience, sharpens the ears. At the same time, the audience is made vulnerable, they cling to the sound as it is their only guide through this passage of time. More information on In the Dark can be found here. Chihei presents a new long form piece conjured with guitars and effected into abstraction. It is parallel in form to the ebb and flow of water over the margins of a beach, ever the same yet constantly renewed. *(this time)

There is something to be majestic about stalwarts of a certain flock coming together to be creative. The harder side of Drum & Bass didn't have it's own power formation until today. It's as of this day that Czech producer Forbidden Society, formed an alliance with two of his most respected peers to create 3RDKND. Donny, Katharsys and FS all have a strong lean to rhythmic textures, tough drum cuts and experimental FX works. Just in time for the European festival season, the thunderous first effort has arrived; and it's going to turn some heads.

Purge EP is a work of experience, seeking for the outer bounderies of whats sonically possible. The title track is an electronic behemoth which revolves around boundary pushing drum programming and pure unfiltered energy. 'The Artifact' is a straight up dancefloor anthem which uses an ominous vocal of cinematic proportions to build up to the halftime body of heavy hitting drums. 'Fire And Blood' is an experimental work of the rhythmic endurance. The final track is a 3RDKND remix of an original track by Donny and FS. This is the final showcasing of the trinity's sonical excellence. 'Purge EP' will be released through Forbidden Society's self titled label

Following a self-titled EP last year, Dario Rojo Guerra aka Natureboy Flako is set to release his second album 'Theme For A Dream' on Five Easy Pieces on 20th July 2018. Exploring the boundaries of music, science and spirituality through a prism of colourfully synthesised-sound, heart-pounding rhythm and cinematic soundtracks; the core essense of 'Theme For A Dream' is the exploration of the human inne space, the balance of musical energies and music's healing capabilities. 'Theme For A Dream' is a more electronic sounding record than his debut. Guerra makes extensive use of old and new analogue equipment such as the Juno 106, Korg's MS-20, ARP Odyssey or Roland's SH-2000 synthesisers, alongside recordings of vocals, guitars and other instruments. This serves to create a dynamic and eclectic sound spectrum, all unique to his musical handwriting. 'Theme For A Dream' will be accompanied by an experimental and interactive website that allows users to preview music while being an immersive, unique multi-sensual 4D xperience of its own. Snippets of the music from 'Theme For A Dream' become audio visual poetry and an immersive exploration of state of the art technology and oneself. 'I don't think technology necessarily means not being natural. Technology can be very much in balance with nature, since it is mostly just trying to imitate or trying to understand something from within nature. Around recording 'Theme For A Dream', Guerra also co-produced/co-wrote and engineered Kutmah's recent debut and Jitwam's forthcoming album, as well as produced almost half of Fatima's follow up album to 'Yellow Memories'. He is currently working on a film project with a London based production company and is already working on a new album, which is expected to bring back his vocal talent, previously released under the moniker Dirg Gerner.

South London producer Ben Hauke takes a sonic excursion to South America via Lewisham for a new seven track release for Far Out Recordings. While littered with Afro-Latin percussion, and samples of obscure Brazilian, Cuban and Colombian records, Only Old stays true to Ben's distinctly London identity, with a record that fluctuates between house, broken beat and instrumental hip-hop.Having collaborated with the likes of Nubya Garcia and Joe Armon Jones, Ben Hauke stands at the electronic end of London's new jazz movement. Currently working on new releases with more of a focus on live instrumentation, Ben titled the release 'Only Old' as it leans more heavily on his foundational approach to music making: an idiosyncratic, almost brazen sampling style in productions bursting with personality.Always full of character and style, Hauke's productions have seen him likened to Theo Parrish and Madlib, with an altogether physical approach to sound. Title track 'Only Old' is moody broken beat with eerie sampled vocals and piano. 'Get Up To Get Down' is a light n' breezy summer house stepper, while Brazil-inspired 'Runners' sounds as if it was made for MF Doom. Only Old will be released on 180g Vinyl on 20th July. Generation Next returns with his 6th solo EP on the 7 Days Entertainment label titled Phoenix. The EP opens with the song Sundance Kid, a tune that carries a high-spirited synth and bass throughout mixed in with a simple kick drum, high hat and snare combo. Cong Burn go deep on their third record with Freerotation affiliate Duckett making his first appearance on the label and Chekov following up his recent contribution to Timedance. The heady A-side opens with Chekov's 'Spring' which has spent the last few years popping up in sets from Lena Willikens, Call Super and the Hessle Trio. Duckett's 'Lost In Israel' rolls through its first half carried by complex arpeggios before its layers are broken down and evaporated. On the B side Lack provides a extended and dubbed out DJ tool sounding like if Kowton released on Workshop. Haddon's 'Anabiosis' ties this batch together having first appeared on Cong Burn's debut CDR back in 2015 - since then it has become a go-to opener, closer and after party ender.

Warsaw based duo Private Press join Rekids Special Projects this July with four deep techno cuts entitled 'Zero Sum EP'.
Hailing from Poland, Adam Brocki and Jan Wóycicki make up Private Press - a project that's released sought after cuts on labels like Technosoul and Indigo Aera. The duo is also known by the name Raw Feelings, however many will be familiar with Brocki's Newborn Jr. alias, which has dropped releases on Rhythm Section, Echovolt, Dopeness Galore and Les Yeux Orange. 'Miracle Man sets the tone with delayed resonant synths accompanied by crunchy and distorted snares before 'Becomes The Prime' opts for a lo-fi sound with filtered synth blips and enigmatic vocal slices. On the flip side 'Tooms' delivers heavily reverberated horn-like stabs, modulated synth lines and an underpinning bass that rumbles throughout as 'Clan' offers a fast paced cut with high pitched whistling that echoes alongside a thumping kick drum and organic percussion to bring the package to a close..

Drenched in pure Philly vibes 'I'm Ready To Give Up My Life' is a real beauty, clocking in at over 9 mins of pure dance-floor joy with soaring strings and a driving rhythm. Pure class all the way and one for the aficionados for sure. Beautiful Soul music that will certainly deliver the goods in the club indeed. As per the original 1976 promo release this 12" features the same program on both sides.
